Good morning, I heard that the garrett gti 2500 pro has 2 functions that interest me, I would like to know if they are there or not. 1) can cut off all signals in the upper soil layer (conventionally 10 cm) and see what is underneath. 2) you can give a sniff (conditionally Kat'kin penny) and he will only react to them. I hope the question is clear. Translated via Google.
@@timmanasterski8200 Hard to tell in the dirty condition, but clean them up and see.. The Ox Knob should have some from of threads in it, usually tapered somewhat to fit the horn. I enjoyed your video HH
@@SeriesIII yeah, it has visible threads on the inside! You can view a close-up photo on our website, georgiagold.org, thanks again for the ID, very cool find. When was the last time oxen pulled wagons in Atlanta, GA!
Congratulations on your new detector! We are located north of Atlanta, a bit far from Augusta, but you should be able to find some old stuff. Augusta has a lot of history and dates all the way back to 1736!
I own the 2500 and my friend, at lunch today, said he'd get the 800. This video may make up my mind! But probably not. I still find coins with mine although he finds much more. He gets some really awesome permissions for some really old homesteads. Me? Mostly parks. P.S. I've also been hunting for about 31 years.
@@GeorgiaGold You were both having some decent luck. Again, I currently own the 2500. I had a buddy at lunch today suggest the 800 because, he said, it uses several frequencies to find your targets whereas the 2500 uses a single frequency. You CAN switch frequencies manually with the Garrett to avoid interference from like-frequencied detectors in, say, a group hunt but it's a manual process. I've not found many good things in my 31+ years of hunting but I have not hard-core hunted consistently either. In fact, I've gone years w/o hunting (I'm a hobby hopper as my wife would say). But, I do like my Garrett and, for what it's worth it IS at least priced as one of their best. I think if my Garrett dies on me or just simply quits finding targets I'd seriously consider the 800 but not going to jump ship at this point from my $900 investment to another $800 investment currently. Thanks for the comparison though. Good luck in the field!
Hello Gary . The Garret GTI 2500 is one of my very best detectors . 18 inches on a coin is not a problem at all . set up : sensitivity 10 . threshold 7.5 . Mode : all metal . You can switch with relic mode while hunting . This is one of the best machines ever made in the metal detecting world .Nevertheless people do not know enough about this ever best machine as it is made for serious detectorists . I also have a whites TDI , a Garrett ATX , a G2upg, The GTI is by far my deepest machine as long as i alternate all metal mode with relic mode sensitivity at 10 or more if possible . You are better off we with a G2 upg with 33 detech coil if the place you hunt is very trashy . If relatively clean you will eat the equinox for breakfast if you have the proper set up according to the ground . Always rise the sensitivity at its maximum without false signals . That is the secret .. And of course do a Manual GB first and desactivate the ground tracking as it can eat a bit of performance when scanning the ground all the time . happy hunting . Greetings from France
Heah, could you ask your brother what sensitivity setting he has his GTI set to, especially in Coin mode hunting? Mine has been on 3 since I've owned it. Max is 12.
I run it really high, around 11. It usually runs crazy at 12. The lowest I've run it is at 9. A setting of 3 sounds too low to me. Really you want to run it as high as possible, if you're getting a lot of falsing, then you turn it down, but otherwise run it as hot as possible.
I bought my GTI used in April, so I'm still learning. From what I read, mine has the latest software, it's only the GTI's with Treasure Talk that need the firmware upgrade.
@@antiquesnavigator485 Talked with Garrett folks for awhile the other day. Ask for Rusty. He's very patient with questions. He said the only thing mine would get with a firmware upgrade is a new chip that dealt with mineralization better. Also, I'd lose the nice lady talking to me . LOL. So...I've bumped my sensitivity up to 9 or 10. Bought me some Garrett wireless headphones and a pinpointer and I think I'm finding more now. I just did a park hunt and found 20 coins. Thanks for getting back with me.
Hi John, Good point. I'm working on improving my recovery foot print. Thanks for pointing it out. I was trying to find the target as quickly as possible and I had just got my GTI after 20 years of sitting around instead of getting out there and detecting. I try not to even dig now and probe all targets. I'll demonstrate my technique in the next video. Thanks again.
It's no longer a "nice plug" if after you pull it from the ground you tear it into pieces! Never cut and pull a plug completely out of the ground a powerful mower will suck it right out of the ground and It'll be gone!
The GTI is no match for the Equinox 800. I had the GTI 2500 about 30 years ago and got rid of it with in 2 months. You just need to learn the machine, and You will out do your brothers GTI 2500 easily. It's no match for the Equinox 800. listening for the tone 1st, then look at the ID 2nd. If you have real good hearing use the the 50 tones, if not the 5 tones, that is what I use. my hearing isn't that good anymore. I live in Georgia with medium mineralization and I have picked up quarters at 12 inches with my Equinox 600
Hey Ronald thanks for the advice! The next time I'm out i'll try Park 2, I believe that is 50 tone, which I haven't tried yet. I think your right though, the Equinox 800 is newer technology and I believe w/some practice, I'll be out finding him w/the GTI 2500.
That's what a lot of people claim, but the proof of the pudding is in the eating. I'm come up with the following to pit the two machines against each other: "We return to either park and each mark out a 10' x 10' detecting area for each machine. I would hunt my 10' x 10' area with my GTI 2500 and Mike would hunt his 10' x 10' area with his Equinox 800. We would then switch and I would detect Mike's 10' x 10' area and vice versa. The challenge would then be complete and we would compare our finds." This 10x10 challenge would remove operator issues, since each detectorist would be digging every target (at least that's what I'm going to do in both areas). The GTI series was introduced in 1996, which was 23 years ago.
Experience failed here, not the machine ;). Once you know how to recognise cans, you can choose to skip them giving you more time to find coins. The Nox will go deeper and has faster recovery speed so you can move and swing faster, it is multi freq so it should beat the GTI by a great length. Keep practising :-), there always comes a time in life the younger brother beats the elder one ;-) :-).
Thanks for watching. Cans and large items still fool me. If it is shallow and I swing a foot off the ground I may know ahead of time but I don't always do that test. That's where the imaging of the GTI comes in handy.
@@GeorgiaGold You could use the pinpoint function of you equinox to determine how large the item more or less is, larger items give longer 'larger' tones when you press the pinpointer and swing over the target. On the Deus tincans give a very loud and hard sound, but it could also be a large copper item or pocketwatch. I myself digg all signals but if I had to race my brother in a coinshot I would not dig the tincan sounds. it takes a long time to learn your (any) detector, i think it takes at least 150-300 hours of using it, so don't give up and keep digging :-).
Thanks for the advice. I'll have to give it a try. I've definitely have learned my machine much better than when I made this video. I only had the detector a week or so when we made this video. Thanks again!
Not true. The GTI you can swing fast and it goes very deep. I've gotten coins deeper than my arm length. You need to really study up on the GTI 2500. I've even found a 8.15g meteorite with mine.
Both are great machines but I do love my equinox 800. Thanks for sharing guys
Thanks for watching!

5:55 Ox knob ! bottom piece shown ( above the Hex nut, which that might be a Model T valve stem cover part)
That's awesome. I've found really old spark plugs on Belle Isle in Detroit, but a Model T valve stem cover part would be a first. Thanks for the info!
Wow, I didn't know what a Ox Knob is! You're awesome T JRick! So possibly a model T valve stem cover nut and a even older Ox Knob!

Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it. Metal detecting is fun, but it's even better when you get out there with friends or family.
have you hunted Grant park? any complaints from hunting those parks?
Hi John. We haven't tried Grant park yet. So far the only park we've been asked to leave is Piedmont.
You cant compare detectors unless you run the machines over the same target to see if both machines can pick it up.
Who win??
Penso che Tim abbia vinto questo round con la sua GTI 2500. I think Tim won this round with his GTI 2500.
