Just a note. I've owned a jewelry shop for 22 years and as gold prices have gone up many chain jewelry stores started selling and setting diamonds and gemstones in everything from 8kt gold to sterling silver. Most men's rings like the one you found are set in 10kt so they don't break as easily as 10kt is harder than 14kt. I would not assume there wasn't a black onyx or diamond in it! The stones in the bracelet are topaz ...aquamarine is incredibly expensive per carat and not set in vermeil.
Hi PK, thanks for your very interesting comment I have a question for you. I was explaining to a younger person the difference between 22k 18k 10k gold etc. I said the gold is diluted with other metals like copper, Am I correct and could you please tell me in more detail what defines "K". thanks and greetings from Australia. I don't like Indian gold as its so yellow and fake looking. Is that because of the inferior metals added to pure gold ?
@@Kingofrestrrooms666 I mean, you don’t really need the help of that guy. You could look it up. K stands for karat and us the parts out of 24 that is pure gold, for example in 10 karat gold 10 parts out of every 24 are actually gold. Other metals added are silver and copper, yes.
So....today my hubby and I are watching this video for the 1st time. I want to say that I was born and raised in Cali and surfed on the north side of the pier...though I was raised in the hills of 91745. I live on a beautiful uncrowded beach on the Great Lakes now at 64. My heart was always here in Huntington. Prom nights walking down the pier and dancing on the pier....Grunion running....I've not been home in 34 yrs....it does me so much good to see your videos....my heart is so touched. May I also say that it was nice that this one gentleman picked up glasses that you found...but I got pissed when he came over detected the ring in YOUR spot and he kept it...GRRRR Both of us got mad. Anyway...I we get so tickled when you score. Thank you so much for cleaning up the beaches as you go...We don't watch anybody else. We love you kind personality and you are funny. Thank you for going through all the trouble to share. We just love you!
my step dad used to do this; he'd take us on holiday to france each summer and he'd bring his metal detector so we'd all go looking for lost treasure together on the beach lol. so much fun as a kid finding random shinies and scattered francs lost in the sand.
I am used too lots of detectorists, just because they are out detecting doesn't mean anything as I find a lot of great stuff detecting behind them. They clear out high tones and I dig the iffy low tones and I still find the GOLD. So never let the thought of other detectorists on the beach as a reason not to detect. Thank You 👍
That was a huge day! I’m a very beginner MD and I can only hope to one day be as good as you. One big thing I learned: hit the beach immediately after a major holiday when lots of beach goers have been out. Keep having fun MD’ing!
Super cool video Jim with loads found way to go or what, shame u didn't find that massive gold chain with diamonds encrusted in it but heyhoo maybe next time GL&HH coming from Dulwich London England ✌ peace✌
We metal detect the beaches all day every day now ! I found a $300.00 Platinum ring !!! And opal filled silver ! I was so sunburned, I later peeled a sheet of leather off my neck !
After getting my first dog I noticed that because I was looking down at him walking in front of me often, that I was also seeing the sidewalk, or the ground in the woods, or the park grounds more than I would normally. We explored some rather odd places and I found change, jewelry and several cell phones, mostly in the woods where people would sit or climb over rocks or fallen trees. One day we got caught in the rain while deep in the woods. I figured a short cut up a hill would get us home quicker. At one point I was hanging on to a scrawny little tree, while trying to climb up a wet hill, steadily being rained on. I stopped to laugh at how ridiculous this all was and at the look my dog gave me then, which cracked me up even more. Out of the corner of my eye I saw a bit of a sparkle in the wet mud. I scraped around the area a bit and uncovered a gold ring with two intertwined hearts which turned out to be 10k gold. Over the years I also found a gold diamond ring in a Mall parking lot, which had been run over and squashed, a gold chain, a silver ID bracelet, a silver ring and a huge 14k white gold wedding band nestled in a load of garden stones we had delivered to our front yard. I also found a wallet with five hundred dollars in it, no ID or credit cards. A find I should have ignored was a purse with an empty wallet, make up, stuff like that, and a card for a dentist appointment with only a first name. I phoned the dentist and told them to contact the patient named on the card to let her know that I had found her purse and to call me. The woman got back to me and I walked my dog over to her apartment building which was close by. She came downstairs to meet me, went through her purse and wallet and then looked at me and asked, "Where is the money?" I told her it had obviously been taken and that I had found her purse as is. From her look I gathered that she didn't believe me. She turned and walked away. So much for a thank you. Unfortunately since this woman lived in my neighborhood I saw her a few times after that and from the looks she gave me each time, it seems she still thought I had stolen her money. On the other hand, a cell phone I found lying in the sand at the beach, netted me a fifty dollar reward from the owner. I didn't want a reward but he insisted. It was his business phone and he was incredibly happy to get it back.
Wow you're such a good samaritan kind man returning the phone to its owner that you have found at the river..enjoy watching your vlog just a new subs.fr.Phillippines..God bless u stay safe..
06:50 The man you met said, "18K" on the bracelet. Usually items marked 18K are plated. 1/20 18K would mean that the item is plated with 18K gold making up a 20th of the weight.
18k without any other marks is assumed 18k but Keith did have that bracelet tested and appraised, 1/20 would be gold filled and if it had markings like 'GP,' 'GE,' or 'HGE' that would make it plated. Though I find brass items marked 18k often, we call that gas station jewelry. Lol!
Jim, agree with your comment about poor etiquette out there. Saw someone flying down the wet sand near the pier recently at low tide, digging holes everywhere and didn't fill one... :(

The Equinox 600/800 are great detectors for the price. I have the 800, and it would be hard to justify selling it in order to "upgrade" to a 900 or Manticore. I might sell my CTX 3030 and all the coils someday and get a Deus 2, but I'll never part with my 800 (or Excal 2). It will have to die on me first, or me die on it.
Yes, though it is hard to do. I just returned a gold toe ring the other day and that is the first return that I have made in years. Returns earn good karma, Thank You 👍
Must be fun to do. But the gold and aquamarine bracelet in the beginning is costume jewelry about $10. I NEVER wear my nice jewelry to beaches or where it can be lost.
I love in a tourist beach town and want to get into metal detecting at my local beach. What kind of gear would you suggest to someone to get started with?
It depends on the beach, but for sure I use beach 2 in the wet sand in all metal mode. We have iron rich sands so FE6 is perfect, I adjust recovery speed based on soil density the more dense to lower the recovery and slower my swing, high trashy areas I crank up the recovery. I also use 5 tones and adjust sensitivity as needed.
20:29 i actually have a ring like this, the chain being black, and they are really nice when you figit alot Also i just found your channel so out of curiosity, what do you do with the stuff you find? Like the jewelry and stuff
Well that is a great question, yes we can but technically we cannot dig. If you take great care and no noticeable holes leaving the park in pristine condition you will never have a problem, it is when we leave it ugly they can use several rules to prevent us from detecting.
I use the Minelab Equinox which is the best machine for the beach. Minelab is also going to release the Manticore early next year. Minelab makes the best beach machines and have for years, XP has made only 1 machine that is good on the beach. Thank you 🤙
Yes all metal all the time or most of the time. Trashy areas I discriminate for most part. The real reason to hunt in all metal is depth, a quarter deep will sound like iron, same with any other object that is deep. So deep iron I take a scoop if it sound better I keep digging, when I see that it is shallow iron, I then can walk away but a lot of the time deep targets are good targets.
I would love to win the sand scoop but... just in case I don't...I would like to ask your opinion on a sand scoop and pole. I'm in Texas and our beaches can be soft to hard sand. Can you recommend a scoop and pole that would be light weight and sturdy but also rust proof! I'm 5'1" so I'm kinda of short but I hunt our beaches alot and I've already broke one pole and my current scoop is showing signs of rust! ugh! Thanks, I really value your opinion!
I really like my Titanium Scoop from CKG and the Carbon Fiber shaft. Titanium won't rust and super light weight, though all carbon fiber shafts will break so learn to dig without forcing the shaft and it will not break. It has handles rocky areas, heavy sand areas and clay like wet sand, all I dig with a mindset to protect my carbon fiber shaft and that is why I hardly break them. Though they do break if forced. Use FWJ at checkout with any product from CKG and they give you 10% off and free shipping.
im late! but that weird thing at just before 4 minutes in is a pin of a character named Kirby! hes a small pink alien who eats lots of stuff! hes very cute, from nintendo! i consider you lucky to have it, i think its from hot topic or gamestop :)
I would like to get a metal detector! I live in Az, so the first place i would go is the Salt River, where we go tubing. Its very popular and quite busy all summer. Then I would head up to Lake Mead, ...theres bound to be some lost treasures waiting to be found! What do you think, is it worth the drive? Anyway, i really enjoy your videos, its exciting and fun watching the hunt seeing what you find! Ty,...pEaCe-0uT, lOvE!
My dad and one of his buddies metal detected until he passed away ..he found a ring once that he got 800 bucks for at pawn shop..I tried it and only found 31 cents in three days..not for me
A lot of people quit because they really do not understand how, when and where to detect. detecting the dry sand after a huge event is smart, detecting an area that doesn't get busy isn't. We sand hunting takes experience and knowing the tides, currents and swells and how they move items around is important. Good Luck if you ever try again.
Congratulations GOLD MASTER Jim on reaching 7K Subscribers! 🙌 And Let's not forget Congrats on that huge 10K gold ring you found! Not going to lie its eating me inside not knowing what massive stone it once displayed.😱 Great hunt!
My 5yo watches your videos. Now he wants a metal detector and a head lamp to look for "treasures" at the beach. I see why not, his birthday is coming up at the end of August and we love only 15 mins away from the beach. Edit: If anybody reads this and you know a few things about metal detectors please lmk what is good on Amazon fairly priced as I don't want to get duped buying a cheapo bunk one
dry sand will have the most objects on a daily basis that you will have access too, however because wet sand can move objects around even drag them off shore so the wet sand keeps the treasures and only gives them up when conditions are just right. Large long period swells have the energy to remove what sits on the sea floor and put them on the beach making a great day of to detect but everything can change during the next tide cycle. Northern storms will remove overburden of sand creating a cliff or cut giving access to the heavier items that did not get dragged out to sea during the storms but that too will change after the next tide cycle. So the answer is both are good but the wet sand can become great based on conditions. Thank You 👍
Minelab Equinox is well worth the price, ease of use for beginners is the best on the market, combine it with so much power. I think it is best for beginners an pros. Anything else is just not worth it, in my opinion. There is a reason it is so popular.
Where did you buy your scoop? My husband wanted to try metal detecting and he bought a really nice metal detector. Problem is we're getting older and it's harder to bend over all the time. If you could tell me what brand of scoop you bought and where it would be greatly appreciated. Love your video's.

Most work in the coin star machine, I usually tumble them clean before I cash the coins in.
That was fun to watch. It's amazing to do that. Love it.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you 🤙
Stuff like this makes me think about how much must be buried all around us, at any given moment. Imagine what could be hiding in your own backyard?
Most lost wedding rings happen in their own yard, Thank You 👍
Do you always run “detect all metal” so you can hear ferrous metals ? Can you share your settings.

Got it. Did you change the tone for ferrous metals

@@funwithjim 🔥💪
Sounds like Colin Robinson. Love it! Also thank you for the great content
Thank You 👍
hey can you tell me what brand of metal detector it is
Minelab Equinox 800, Thank you 🤙
I would like to get a metal detector!
@@funwithjim I am thinking about it to do something with my ten year old besides getting beat up practicing jiu jitsu with him 😂😂😂
Can you tell me the metal detector that you’re using?
Minelab Equinox 800, Thank You 👍
Great find brother 🎉🎉🎉
great vid ,awesome finds Jim thanx God Bless
Thank you 🤙
Congratulations GOLD MASTER Jim on reaching 7K Subscribers! 🙌 And Let's not forget Congrats on that huge 10K gold ring you found! Not going to lie its eating me inside not knowing what massive stone it once displayed.😱 Great hunt!
I would love to have seen what kind of stone went in that ring, Thank you 🤙
@@funwithjim SAI is apparently an Indian jewelry company and they use real stones even in 10k.
I'm curious: what are the units on the numbers on your detector?
Hey man what's the metal detector and scoop you are using? They look nice
Minelab Equinox 800 and CKG scoop
@@funwithjim wow thanks! I didn't think it was going to be you Jim to respond. I love your videos
I started at a young age, too! Thank You 👍
Where do you take all the rings when you're finished?
To a safety deposit box
What tips of metal detector are you using
I use a minelab equinox 800 & 900 but all the models are awesome for beach detecting.
@@funwithjim about how much do they cost
Only 14k subs? When I entered your channel I thought you had well over a million. Keep it up! 👍
Thank you 🤙
Great Video Jim! Awesome hunt as always.
Thank you 🤙
You guys did great too, I just got done watching your video! Keep it up! But do not wear out Irene! Bring lots of health snacks and water.
Are you more likely to find things in the dry sand or the wet sand?
dry sand will have the most objects on a daily basis that you will have access too, however because wet sand can move objects around even drag them off shore so the wet sand keeps the treasures and only gives them up when conditions are just right. Thank You 👍
I'm new to your channel. I love a lot to learn. Looking g forward to watching future videos. Happy hunting.
Thank you 🤙
My best find was a white gold neck less worth about three thousand dollars,, My granddaughter is wearing it
that is an awesome find, congrats. Thank you 🤙
What do you recommend for someone just starting out?
Minelab Equinox is well worth the price, ease of use for beginners is the best on the market, combine it with so much power. I think it is best for beginners an pros. Anything else is just not worth it, in my opinion. There is a reason it is so popular.
Where did you buy your scoop? My husband wanted to try metal detecting and he bought a really nice metal detector. Problem is we're getting older and it's harder to bend over all the time. If you could tell me what brand of scoop you bought and where it would be greatly appreciated. Love your video's.
I use the CKG Titanium scoop from CKGscoops.com and if you use FWJ and checkout you get 10% off and free shipping in the US.
@@funwithjim how deep does your detector pick up in sand?
14:10 With the sand caked in there the way it was I'd say the stone was already missing. Great find regardless.
Thank you 🤙
So what is your thoughts on buying a used detector?
I usually avoid it, as you never know especially without some type of warranty. Thank You 👍
