Hands down, this is my favorite movie of all times.🤠
Agree but also love Death Hunt
My dad introduced me to this film about 20 years ago by far one of the greatest
I worked the Summer of 1972 in Yellowstone. I heard all the Mountainman stories in Yellowstone. Then saw this movie and loved it. Good job Redford.
That movie got a second life over the last 20 years. May be more popular now than when it was released.
@Abandoned_Brane I'm not surprised, it's a great movie and much better than the modern hyperactive superhero slop
Redford's best. Has a lot,to say in addition to mountain man history.
The conditioning of my peers has been lifted
1973 was going off to the Army took my girlfriend to a drive in movie can't remember what the first movie was, but thought I would get me a little farewell treat. when Jeremiah Johnson started both of us were glued to this movie when it started
@neallance7311 That's a great story! And I hope those memories of "Jeremiah Johnson" served you better in the Army than the other memories you were trying to make 😆
The way he made peace with the Crows, and the reason for it, showed honor and nerve.
Two things Johnston had a lot of.
Looking forward to that video.
👍🏼👍🏼
@arctodussimus6198 Yes and it's amazing how Crazy Woman was tied into why they made peace. Should be able to publish that video by the end of March, thanks!
@@chaptersofwisdom
Looking forward to watching it.
👍🏼👍🏼
@@chaptersofwisdomis it out?, you have my rapt attention, I am unfamiliar with this part of the story.
Thanks
The scene you are talking about is one of the greatest realistic bushwacker scenes in any movie. The chaos, the struggle. Almost as much effort went into playing the fight as one might expect in a life or death scenario just to make it believable. Stuntmen should love this scene.
This movie and a “Man Called Horse” with Richard Harris, only the first one. We’re my 2 favorite westerns in the early 1970’s, but in 1976 a movie came out that is still my second favorite western “The Outlaw Josie Wales. My Favorite of all time, is of course “The Searchers” with my childhood hero John Wayne. Love your video. May God richly bless everyone 🇮🇱✝️🇺🇸!
@alexanderthurman214 That's cool, "A Man Called Horse" and "The Searchers" are on my watch list. Thanks for the compliment!
Are you me? Am I you? We are brothers of the same spirit.✋️
I have been watching this movie since the 70s I imagine. There should be another movie as well as another video.
Stumbled on this movie 20 years ago, loved it so much.
Great video, thanks! Looking forward to the rest of the story.
@fulldisclosurefishing7606 Thank you! I'm publishing four more videos about Johnson in the next few months, spread out among other topics, hope that works for everyone
I own this movie and I think its the best movie of all time!
Thank you for the informative video!
@phillipmonroy You're welcome! I love how films and their source books sometimes differ, sometimes compliment each other. You can see how the screenwriters tried to make the story more palatable and engaging for audiences
One of my most favorite movies!
I saw this with my Dad back in 1972 when it premiered. I was 9 years old. My favorite before The Outlaw Josie Wales and Cold Mountain.
Cold mountain 🤔
Well done.
Careful research, calm delivery, good graphics.
Subscribed tonight.
DOUG out
Much appreciated!
Thank you for posting. Liked. Subscribed.
@kbs5150 Glad you liked it and thanks for the sub!
Excellent . One of my favorite movies . GR8 compilation of historical fact .
@jeffdanner653 Thanks!
It was late when I caught your video. Almost clicked on by. Very glad that I didn't. Excellent work here. Thank you.
That's great, thanks!
That’s good stuff. Thank you for the upload and the historical sources you supplied in the description. Subbed and shred. May your channel prosper.
@LS-vo7hc Thanks, glad you liked it!
And by the 1870s, most of the surviving Crow had taken to working as scouts for the cavalry or in Brothels.
I watch this 3 or 4 times a year. Great movie
One of my most favorite movies
Yep saw this movie on TV and Thought "Ho Hum, another TV western" But the actor was star quality so I watched it "About 5 times" A really great movie
Best movie ever. Would love to be back then. Life was easy
What??
Would rather that.then today's society. Just me though
You speak with forked tongue
I saw this movie in the theater in 1972 at 12 year's old with my dad, it had an impact on me that could not be underestimated. The lines in this movie are great.
@homeschoolmomify "I make damn good biscuits" - Liver-Eating Johnson

@homeschoolmomify LOL - that's a good one too
I lived and worked among the Absorke for 3 years and heard many of their.. stories
I love that movie. Thanks for the video. I learned things I never knew about it.
@williamkeck7378 You're welcome, glad you liked it!
Great video! I loved this movie!
Thank you!
Saw this in the cinema in first run. Knew it was an epic
I watch this movie every year since 72
Um dos melhores filmes a que já assisti. Grandes desempenhos! Robert Redford em sua melhor versão. Gostaria de assistir a este magnífico filme novamente pelo UA-cam. Do Brasil, saudações ❤😊
@penybritski6799 Yes, great movie! Look for a copy at a library near you, if you have one and don't want to pay to rent or buy it
There is a line in the movie from Delque, he said to Johnson, lucky its Crow attacking any other like the Cheyenne, they would send the entire village.
@MidnightDesperado66 The Crow took it as a matter of pride to strike one at a time and never shoot at him
Great movie! Saw it when it came out and many times since
I have never been lost but I have been a powerful might confused 😊
Wow. What a bastard. Never resting. Always looking over your shoulder.
My favorite movie ever
I read the book, Crow Killer. It was more gruesome than what the movie portrayed.
very interesting video, thanks
@5ivestring Thanks for the compliment
The scene where he stumbles across the mom who went insane cause he kid was murdered, still has one surviving child and completely neglects him in her greif is a pretty heart breaking scene.
@ballbby3775 Yes it was pretty rough what happened to people back then. Actually my next two videos for "Jeremiah Johnson" are about her, will be out in a month or two (lots of other stuff to talk about!)
"Some say you're already dead, on account of this. And some say you never will be, on account of this."
@CybeleCotter Good quote! In the book "Crow Killer" it wasn't a monument to Johnson ... will be the subject of another video
Read the book Mountain man . .Vardis Fisher
@ukestudio3002 Thank you for connecting the dots, that's interesting
Great book, loved it!
Was scrolling down to see if anybody would mention this book. One of the only books in my life that I have read more than once. Actually several times. Favorite movie line "Full time night woman?".
I saw the movie in a theater on first release in the 70's. It was realistic like no other Western before it.
This movie, single handedly sold more Hawkin 50 caliber, black powder rifles than any advertisement.
@ColemanWade That's funny because in "Crow Killer" they used .30 caliber Hawkins before upgrading to .56 Springfields and eventually Spencer repeaters (if my notes are correct)
You can't blame him, living the life of the times.r.i p.
Watching the movie again recently it was striking how little of the total time was spent on this.
@charlesmiller6281 That's true. I just checked it and the revenge story is the last 30 minutes of 2-hour film
I have noticed recently a real drive on UA-cam to deride, talk down, and flat out claim all of the tales of John Johns (Jerimiah) to be absolute lies told by Johnson just to make money in his aging years as he participated in the old west shows of the time . I will never understand the desperate need some people have to destroy old legends. This and A Man Called Horse with Richard Harris were my all time favorite movies growing up, and I was lucky enough to watch them both when they came out. I was very very young, but they made a giant impression on me.
@rickhudnall3068 According to the introduction of "Crow Killer", many of the stories came from Del Gue, but I see your point. The same suspicions are said about Frank Hopkins (the horse racer from "Hidalgo"). Eventually I'm going to look into the controversy more and make a video about it
Good movie. At the beginning an Indian saw Johnson floundering in the water after a fish. It looked as though Johnson would not survive his first Winter.
@hereandthere9023 Yes, the other mountain men taught him how to survive, they were very helpful to each other. I have another video about it coming in a month or two
Saw it in the theater. We all wanted to be mountain men back then
Read the book. Crow Killer.
His nickname was Liver-Eating Johnson. You can probably deduce why without a graphic explanation.
@GKsGS400 In the book "Crow Killer", Del Gue witnessed a couple of those incidents and was thoroughly grossed out
Imagine if you looked like Johnson and was just trying to trap.
He was liver eating Johnson. Too bad they forgot that part. There are some mountains in Montana called the Crazy Mountains because of that woman he ran into just east of Livingston MT. You can see them from the highway.
@righteyeartistry156 Might have been hard for the film to maintain sympathy for a hero who took revenge in such a brutal way. And a couple of commenters have mentioned the Crazy Mountains, that's really interesting
@righteyeartistry156 I'm adding a few slides about the Crazy Mountains to my next video about Jeremiah Johnson, thanks again!
How could you not mention the young boy who he basically adopted that was also killed along with his wife?
@goodbonezz1289 That's only in the movie, not the book "Crow Killer", and I mentioned the difference in the video about Crazy Woman. Thanks for asking
The problem I have with Robert Redford is that he is so vain he never has a hair out of place, so he looks like an ad for a hair dresser. If had overcome his vanity he could have been a great actor as apposed to a good one.
@freebornjohn2687 Seems to happen to a lot of movie stars
Who's that Johnston?
Maybe they should have got Anthony Hopkins to play Johnson instead of Redford!
@robertboyle2573 "I ate his liver with some fava beans and a nice Chianti" said the mountain man who creeped out the other mountain men
Removing the liver is a symbol of dishonoring them as warriors and as men
@kdubs9111 That makes sense, and according to the book "Crow Killer", the Sioux picked up on it too
Johnson was my kin
@draven3838 Don't eat anyone's liver, that's not cool!
All he wanted was to be left alone, they wouldn't let that happen? So he took it to them, one by one!!
@t.anthony3940 When reading "Crow Killer" I was surprised at how often people got scalped, just for being caught alone and outnumbered. I guess it's all about competition for territory and resources
"Liver eating Johnson"
@mikemarthaller8789 Yeah they left that part out of the movie 😬
Are you sure you can skin Gris ?
@waltglow6396 Good way to test the new guy - Trial By Bear
A-I narration. Spare us.
@tommyleemaddox1033 - LOL - guess I'll work on my dynamic speaking skillz 😆
He had crow in him.
@Robert-fs1pb Yikes, I just remembered "eat crow" is a real phrase - www.dictionary.com/browse/eat--crow
I just found your channel, I've seen three of your videos but this is the first I watched. I have to say the production value here is very good especially for a low subscriber channel and I hope yours grows quickly. Keep up the great work
@dickcaughtinfan9764 Thank you! It's been a big learning experience
Sad
The movie was good. But this video was crap.
@alanmcmichael6681 What didn't you like? I know these videos have a specific format that won't appeal to everyone
👍👍💐🙏🦬🦌🦅😎🇺🇸
Wasting time reviewing a 20 year old movie I've seen 5 or 6 times??
@jackriley5974 Not really a review, more like tying the film to the book that came before it, and exploring the (debatably) real history behind the story. Thanks for asking
Mentira tras mentira....and the hero is always blonde....jejejejejejejejje
Such lot of this is fake and nonsense novel.
FUCCK ALL OF YOU HATERS ABOVE GET A LIFE THE MAN PUT A LOT OF WORK INTO THIS VIDEO AND i FOR ONE NEVER SAW THE MOVIE AND NOW i WILL WONDERFUL THAT HE INFORMED ME OF IT.
Another fake yarn......
Another stupid comment.
