"The way that you wander is the way that you choose , The Day that you tarry is the day that you lose." How true these words are. Great movie - Great Acting.
I saw the movie when it first came out. I was 19 at the time and just starting to take college classes in both Anthropology and History. Also because of movies like this and the Mountain men with Charlton Heston and Brian Keith, I got into black powder shooting with my first rifle being a .50 cal hawken replica.
A Great Film, taken from an excellent example of an American Pioneer, who lived Life the way He had too. I remember very clearly, how it was talked about, after it's release in 1972. Mr Robert Redford, did one Helluva Job on that Film! An Will Greer was also Excellent. Thanks for the opportunity and the inside Story.
Wonderful film. Just watched it again yesterday. Redford is perfect in the part. Thought it was cool that John Rubinstein wrote some of the music. I remember him from Crazy Like a Fox and some other shows.
I make it a point to watch this movie every year, my kids love it too! Lines from the movie are used in everyday conversation, like when my husband does something minimal and looks to me with expectation and says, "fine figure of a man. Yes?" 😅
My brother went to the theater and saw the film. That night as we sat in bed he told me about it, I was fascinated. Took years before I finally got to see it and since it has always been my favorite movie of all time.
Love this old movie. But some of this was shot. On public land. National parks. Will geer. Really makes this movie what it is with out him it wouldn't have done well he pulls off the perfect mountain man. The scenery. Also makes this movie. For those who love nature. And the wilderness erea, of the US and Rocky mountains,, ,
Along with Barbarossa one of the few movies I liked enough to buy when it first came out on VHS! I worked at a video store part time in the 80's for something to do. Occasionally I would have customers who didn't know what they wanted to see. I would recommend Barbarossa and Jeremiah Johnson if they were interested in action/Adventure/western and Somewhere in Time if they were interested in a Romance/Sci-Fi . Each time I rented either movie I told them if they didn't like the movie to bring it back and I would pay for it...I never had to pay for either movie.
This movie had a huge influence on my life. I probably didn't see it until 1973, when I was 13 years old. Me and friends were just starting to hunt, trap and along with Jeremiah, we had to have a .50 cal Hawkens. Great movie
Wonderful film. I especially liked the part of Del Gue, the mountain man who shaved his head so no warrior would want his scalp. A fine strategy indeed.

His first duty was to his family. Instead, he gave in to pressure and betrayed his people by desecrating their holy ground. Shame on him! He failed both his family and his people. And yet, rather than admitting his errors, he went on to multiply them 100 fold!

"There aren't many movies that are this good." Boy, isn't that the truth.
In this film, Robert Redford proved that he just wasn't just another Hollywood pretty face.
Excellent movie. I saw it when it first came out at the age of 16. It left a lasting impression.
This movie came out when I was only 7, but I remember watching it a few times and always enjoyed it.
This is a movie that definitely deserves a 4k le box set with Redford commentary and interviews

This is one of my favorite movies. I watched every time it was aired on TV, sadly they don't broadcast it anymore in my area.
I remember watching this movie as a child with my family at the Drive-in movies. I really enjoyed it. I had no idea it was a true story.
It's one of the best films I've seen; definitely in the top 5.
I was 18 when I saw that movie it was great !
Got the DVD years ago, still watch it now and then. A great movie.
I've seen this movie, probably, twenty times.
And you'll watch another 20 - me too!

I just found it at a resale shop to add to my collection for $ 3 what a deal.

All time favorite film about a bygone era of living a free and rugged life, on Nature’s terms.

Greater than great, nowwww SEE It
I never get tired of seeing this movie. The movie is pretty tame compared to what really happened in the book. But that is typical of Hollywood.
Love Robert Redford and love this movie!

Haven't thought of this for years. We consulted on the pond in the movie many years later. Even in summer, that water was freezing cold!
Thank you !

Nice work
Tanya Tucker was in that movie for a short scene when she was a young girl.
She played the blond girl in the corn crib with her mother and siblings.
Redford was definitely the right choice ☮️

I read the two books that the film is based upon, and I have to say that the movie is way better than both of them. .

Awesome movie! A true representation of an individual relying upon himself...today...everyone wants to copy...so superficial...an empty life...
