Star trek online is not the easiest game to understand because it is a mmo game but it has everything you can ask for create your own crew fly any ship and customize it as you like amazing storylines every ship weapons outfits from the shows and movies cannon characters and new ones and the only star trek game that continues to produce new content the ground battles may leave alot to be desired at times but the space battles are amazing its the closest we have to a open world star trek game can upgrade create and build items and gear it honestly took me years to fully understand aspects of the game especially ship builds but was fun that i was learning something new everyday i played it its alot to learn i get it but once u learn it but the story that there continually telling is awesome and gives u unlimited things to unlock build create and explore

Some lower quality ones: Strange New Worlds, Generations, Harbinger, Conquest (PS2), Shattered Universe. Empires at War makes sense since it came between Gold and Orion Pirates, all 3 using the same mechanics but EaW while having more content than Gold had less than OP.
Odd thing I noticed recently, of all ST games there appear to be none based on series after Voyager. I do not count games like the mobile Timelines since Timelines for example has content for all series but designed in a mobile manner that the content by series is not that big.

Birth of the Federation is definitely one of my favorite Star Trek games. I spent many hours playing it over the years as well as Star Trek Armada 1 & 2, Elite Force.
I’ve played Legacy & Resurgence- fair placements.
Star Trek Away Team does not belong in C-tier. For me, it was a fun gaming experience and I would rate it as a low A-tier or high B-tier.
Now…..your list was somewhat fair up until you got to Star Trek Online (STO) as I could not disagree with your opinion more about on this game. As far as the total gameplay & immersion, from the character creation, to ship building, space battles, storylines & TFOs….it should sit in S-tier. No question in my mind when comparing it to the rest of the titles listed here. There are MANY criticisms that I could make about STO but being a boring game would not be one of them.

After 20 odd years someone finally says the same I did about Armada II! Was really let down in the change to cartoon GFX, even the Borg voices sounded lame. I ended up copying the Armada I voices over. I did find it morbidly comedic making ships weak as tissue paper, and Zap Brannigan tactics being required to take out Starbases.
Away Team is a game I enjoyed, and I’d have put it higher. Though for someone like yourself who prefers there being some form of ship combat, I can understand why it wouldn’t be rated too highly. Trek games in the early 2000s was a lot of dice throwing, and they built Trek versions of games that were popular at the time, with Away Team trying to scoop up folk who liked Commandos, which was fairly big at the time.
Before you pick up Judgement Rites, I’d suggest trying to play 25th Anniversary first if you can as Rites is in all but name a sequel to it, with some story links between the two, though granted not important to know if you start with Rites, but you do get to see small but important QOL improvements the developers made.

A lot of his stuff is laugh out loud funny, and usually in scenes people don't see if they're following walkthroughs. There are clips from him if you dither too long, or even if you die too many times. Different era of games too as you've mentioned, doesn't look like much now, but back in 1995/96 when you also had Wing Commander, Terra Nova, etc. it was all *gasp* *gasp* *gasp* at how amazing those FMV heavy games were.

Good list, at least for the 2/3ds of the titles i've played (haven't touched any of the FPS's). I was surprised not to see 25th Anniversary and Judgement Rights on it. As for not agreeing with you, i think it would be Final Unity. For me it's definitely S tier as a game (same levels of authenticity as Birth of the Federation). As immersive experience it's high S tier. This is a fully voiced game from the mid 90's and on top of that, it's voiced by the full cast of the TNG show. Finally, it has probably the best tactical combat experience from ST games, better then even Bridge Commander IMO (i know, a heresy, and i played and modded BC for more then a decade). What makes it lag behind a bit, is that the tactical experience is hidden by somewhat clunky interface, making it a bit of a challenge to dig it out. But once you do, not even BC can match it. If only there was a battle editor. Alas..... it's not what the game was made for. Exploration and space travel? First in the S tier. No Trek game ever matched it. Not even 25A and JR.

I'm really interested in your comment. I have been playing Final Unity more this week and as an experience its growing on me. On the tactical side how do you uncover this layer u speak of? Its the most confusing UI so delegating it currently. Great comment that's making me rethink the list 🚀

      @ilejovcevski79 10 місяців тому +1

@@LTGamingUA-cam always glad to be of an assistance of a fellow ST aficionado.
My first recommendation would be to try and get a hold of ST_AFU manual. In it, you can find the full set of controls and key bindings that will make this experience much smoother.
As for some basic pointers, you can actually take full control of the ship during tactical engagements, not unlike in BC. I'm not saying selecting maneuvers and tactics here (though that is an option too - a full list of them and their description is present in the ship's library), but actually maneuvering the ship and firing weapons manually. You can do this through the numpad keys, that control pitch, roll and yaw. You can also fire torpedoes and phasers, through / and * if memory serves.
The game has a very sophisticated power distribution and shield/weapon coverage system. Best i've seen in a ST game thus far. The problem is, it's very hard to keep both engineering and tactical in full manual control, so i usually leave La Forge to handle the former, unless i specifically want full power to a specific shield arc or phaser array.
General tactics involve firing phasers to get the shields down (shields are more effective against torpedoes) and then firing torpedoes for catastrophic hull and system's damage. Spread controls how wide the firing arc of the torpedoes will be. Quantity sets the size of each torpedo volley. Note, torpedoes are NOT fired at the same time, but in 0.2s intervals. Large salvos have greater chance to hit, and will do more damage if they connect, but will deplete your 250 torpedoes faster. Also, torpedoes can miss, just like in BC, if proper lock and tube alignment aren't present.
The worst part is the actual tactical cube display. It's very tiny and cramped. Limitations of the 640x480 resolution of the time i guess. But still, will some training, it's possible to get a solid orientation around it. The cramped interface helps a bit here, by allowing to pick targets with the mouse and the aux displays.
Hope some of this helps! Do write if i can offer any other hints and pointers.
Final note, one easy way to practice space combat it to actually set course to a Romulan controlled sector. They will send Warbirds to intercept you. Anywhere from 1 to 3. Save the game before you do however.

@@ilejovcevski79 Thanks dude. Fired her up and with the keys you are right its suddenly a lot more controllable and I can see the depth in the tactical side. I just couldn't get into it! It felt Star Trek but the gameplay was just bland.

after playing Star Trek: Klingon Academy on release... BC was a total let down and downgrade in every way except for the default graphical fidelity that has gone up... but again after experiencing the damage system of KA... a rather tuff pill to swallow by itself, as that by itself was a huge downgrade in BC... that made the visual upgrade feel... not as good as it should... and once i dropped into MP... it didnt take long to realize it was rather limited and shallow... felt casual focused... a very shallow skill ceiling and ultimately not much to do kind of experience, other then admire ur ship kind of feel when compared to Star Trek: Klingon Academy that had essentially nailed the core combat... vs anything else i would have given BC praise... but vs Star Trek: Klingon Academy... i could only find a deep pit of disappointed as it was a very obvious step back, not forward... my whole clan migrated back to KA just 2 weeks after BC launched, because to be frank... we were already bored playing MP after a few days, again compared to KA we were like... "so this is all u can do?.... thats it?? wtf? are u absolutely serious?" again visually improved far as the ships were concerned etc, but the most important points had a total nerf or just didnt exist, so it just made everything else that may have been added or improved... pointless.
i can see why folks who played KA post BC, or who especially never experienced the KA MP when it was active... might prefer BC... because SP KA is a shallow experience vs its MP experience against real players and that experience grows the more each side knows their game... so even if u get 2 nubs into a KA MP match now, it wont look or be anything like when 2 pro's go at it or 2 teams etc... its a entirely different kettle of fish and makes folks clueless when they have never experienced this first hand, because even noobs could have fun between balanced teams were both sides had some pro's and noobs for padding, it wasnt just instant death for them for obvious reasons... if u think about it... but take 2 noobs and throw them into KA MP now and it looks like 2 people trying to figure out how a manual shift works for the first time after only seeing cars with a auto gear box all their lives, even if they finish SP and play some quickmatch against the AI or some real players who are equally clueless, they still look like a L plater on their first day behind the wheel...
in result the core experience is completely missed and because it takes time to learn this solo and even get some of the skills... most wont put the time into KA these days when the game is essentially a forgotten gem, with a dead MP and poor AI (can be improved through mod tweaks, but time consuming).... BC would make much better sense... and unfortunately due to red tape... nobody wants to touch KA either... so even after all these years KA has been treated like that relative everyone wants to forget, even though they are probably the best relative...
hence if KA was re-mastered, mod support enabled and some of the unfinished work on the game was sorted, it would easily surpass a updated BC in my books and well even popular games of today with ease... id dare say the only folks who would say otherwise at that point would be those who play such games more to admire the ships visually... rather then enjoying the combat experience, hence a more laid back experience to enjoy the ship fidelity would make sense, then simulating the experience of a damaged ship ur trying desperately to keep alive, as ur opponents continue to pound u, looking for a way to flip the situation on its head before ur ship explodes.... all while ur hull, systems power fail, turn red, parts of ur ship get blown off or through and crew numbers keep counting down towards zero and damage control time to repair keep skyrocketing as does damage that cant be repaired and ur last remaining shield is going into the red and once it pops there wont be any way to stop the catastrophic failure of ur ship... what will u do...? me personally? 200% power to torps, , activate the self destruct full power to impulse and put whatever is left into the shields then....RAMMING SPEED!!!! and the instant we hit their hull FIRE!!!!
well to be honest unless i was gorn, i rarely rammed anyone, plus not as easy as it sounds when ur dealing with experienced pilots... hence not many folks played gorn.
    either way good days.

Oh definitely but gameplay for some reason is better and it seems to have less dead time in the game. Not sure why PC version is like that.

The best games overall IMO are the point and click adventures - why have they been left off the list completely? Also no DS9: Harbinger, Generations, and others I can't think of immediately.
Doesn't really make any sense to rank games in a series and miss many of the most highly regarded, should make it clear in the title.

All games included are the highly ranked ones in the franchise and ones we have featured heavily. To say they are not is just not reflective of Star Trek games at all. The point and click games are good but I've not played enough of them to rank them. But enough games there that are still incredibly popular today. Your comment is an odd one tbh but it is about discussion haha

What an odd list of games to try wedge in :P Not a fan of the point and click games much prefer the ones on the list for immersion tbh.
