"FLY HER APART, THEN!" is easily the best read Takei ever performed in Star Trek. You FEEL that urgency with every fiber of your being when he says that.
The entire Battle Over Khitomer is a triumph of pacing, acting and sound and visual design. A solid contender for best set piece in the whole franchise.
How did you miss the Enterprise rising up behind the Reliant in the tense ship-to-ship battle in Wrath of Khan? Everything about that still gives me goosebumps.
When the NX-01, battered to hell but still flying, dropped out of the Aquatic Cruiser's hangar to take on the Xindi -Death Star- Weapon was an epic moment
I can absolutely agree with that. And helped make the show more awesome to me. Also a great showing of why the Coalition of Planets, later the Federation of Planets was possible because of how we learned to (mostly) see things from both sides of a coin and bring about a peaceful way to weed out corruption and truly help each other. And that, as an ally, or enemy, we do not back down from a challenge.
My favorite ship entrance was in ST-TNG Episode 3x10 "The Defector" when Tomalak sneers at Picard, saying he expected more than idle threats and 3 Klingon Birds-of-Prey suddenly de-cloak around the 2 Romulan Warbirds. Just perfection! I also loved in the movie Star Trek (2009) in which Spock, in older Spock's ship, is on a collision course with the Narada and her missiles, when the Enterprise appears and takes out the missiles.
100% I can't believe this is left off. I love this scene and is the best surprise ever. I remember watching this as a kid and screaming HELLS YEAH! when it happened.
I agree, but my most favorite part of Star Trek (2009) is the scene right after When Eric Bana's character realizes what is happening. "FIRE EVERYTHING!!" That was both cool, and Memetastic!
As a teen, the strongest nerd chills I felt during TNG was Enterprise C coming out of that temporal disturbance, with the slow reading of its registry ( by Tasha Yar!).
Bang On! ..from my favourite TNG episode, that Ambassador class.. I wore the pin badge of this for years, lost it, replaced it and .. hmm.. seem to require a new one again. :D
I wanted Picard to say screw the timeline and give Enterprise C modern weapons and follow them back. (they'd have to actually follow them back, or Enterprise-D might not exist when C survives.) Sure, its more somthing Kirk would do, and it'd be expensive for a tv show and it would mess up the timeline (but really, as long as the main cast isn't messed with, do we really care?). I'd have loved to see the reaction as the Enterprise C (and D!) came back into the battle.
I'm glad that the Enterprise-E entering the battle of sector 001 was on the list. That's one of my favourite scenes in all of Star Trek and hands down my favourite Michael Dorn scene of all time. His acting in that scene was next level. In spite of the klingon makeup, the dark lighting, and the fact that he didn't actually speak very much, he absolutely sold the huge change in emotion. Worf: "Prepare for ramming speed!" Helmsman: "Sir, there's another starship coming in". Worf: The look on his face and his body language just says "So what? We're hopelessly outclassed, they'll just be more meat for the grinder". Helmsman: "It's the Enterprise". Worf: Whole demeanor changes from despair to "We're gonna win! You guys are screwed now!" As for what I'd like to see in a followup list, Gotta be the Enterprise-A at the end Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home. It was set up to be a grand reveal and it really lived up to expectations. The Defiant when it decloaks for the first time at DS9 is another great one, and going back The One With The Whales, when the Bounty decloaks in front of the whaling ship after the harpoon bounces off its hull like a bullet off of Superman.
I love the entrance of the E at the battle of sector 001, but the one I always think of with the E is during the first flight of the Phoenix, when the E flies in under control of the Borg and you can just FEEL its scale and majesty. Mmmmm
same that scene over 20 years later still gives me the same feeling of joy of seeing it take what mostly would have been a final hit on the defiant, and just zooming past to pick worf up
I know people hate on Nemesis but the reveal of the Scimitar was pretty cool. "She's a predator". Also imagine if it was the refit enterprise that appeared in Picard. Geordi: "I've added some upgrades".
@@cryofpaine i never thought the story was too terrible, just weak. And i would say that when compared to the "odd" choices of Picard, Nemesis isn't that bad
@@GrandInfernoElite And I'm opposite. Picard had some interesting ideas. Season one was simply too short to properly develop them all. And season 2 was too choppy, especially in the middle, and most of all with Rios' character. Dude gets arrested by ICE one episode, and is gushing about how much he loves this time period the next. Season 2 could have been 3, maybe 4 episodes, and been a much tighter story. But I'm a huge fan of tying loose ends together, so the Gary 7/Travelers connection was one of my favorite things in Picard. With Nemesis, you had a directors who knew nothing about the show, didn't respect the actors, so it was a disaster. And even if it had been a good story, I would hate it for the violation of Troi alone. But everything else just ensured that I don't see any redeeming qualities to it whatsoever.
@@cryofpaine i thought season 1's decision to have a large number of androids capable of passing for human despite data being so impossible to replicate and suddenly introducing what reminded me of mass effect's reapers at the end wasn't that great. Season 2 just happened to have a completely separate borg collective that never made an appearance before now. My only real gripe with season 3 was the rogue changelings. I mainly just like Nemesis for the battle scenes. They allowed me to overlook the hidden picard clone. But i still think troi's attack and the fact that a slave race was able to secretly build possibly the most powerful ship in the quadrant, were both examples of bad writing.
Not necessarily a reveal, but an arrival. NCC1701 climbing up behind the Reliant in the Mutara Nebula after outmanoeuvring Khan by working in 3 dimensions.
Not only should this be a #1 ranking as an entrance/arrival/reveal but from a canonical entrance of on screen (Movie or TV) , I would consider this to BE THE FIRST of its type from a visual perspective. As well as being frankly disappointed that it was not on this videos list as there has to be at least 2-3 options it could have replaced.
@@Sephiroth144 The ship was pretty beat up at that point so they didn't have great helm control and their sensors were getting heavy interference from the nebula. It's possible that turning the ship so it would have been perpendicular to the Reliant may have been difficult or even impossible at that point. Also, even if it were possible, they couldn't even see the Reliant until they were pretty much right behind it so flying directly towards it would have created a pretty big collision risk.
@@zkeletonz001 I mean, they somehow pulled up like 500 meters behind it; so they were taking a bit of a risk however they ascended- and I don't think the Enterprise's structural integrity was that damaged (most of the hits being in beefy sections). It'd reason that if they can use maneuvering thrusters to go "down" and then "up" the Z axis, they could reorient the ship along it as well.
Mariner showing up with all of the California class ships to save the Cerritos in Lower Decks season 3 finale is both a great punch the air and go "woohoo!" moment and also hilarious as Boimler reels off the names faster and faster. I loved it.
I liked the reveal of the Enterprise-A on the other side of the Excelsior in Star Trek 4. It wasn't expected and the actors played it wonderfully. "My friends, we've come home."
Controversy about the Kelvinverse aside, the USS Vengeance looming up behind the Enterprise at warp in Into Darkness gives me chills. Back to alpha cannon and since it didn’t make the list I’m picking my favourite starship moment from Star Trek: Enterprise. It’s not an “entrance” per say, but when the Enterprise and Columbia merge warp fields so Trip can go back to the Enterprise. Despite the urgency he still takes a second to just be in the moment and it’s just amazing.
The first shot of the Enterprise-D in Encounter at Farpoint was a great one. And so was the launch of the D (both the lights illuminating over the saucer and as it left the hangar) in Picard Season 3’s Vox. The Enterprise-F also had a grand entrance. And the reveal of the Enterprise-G was fantastic. The musical scores for these scenes added to the majesty of the launches.
Agreed.... i was never a big fan of the D. When she was destroyed i was ok with it, because i love the E ... However, this moment, when Beverly powers up the ship.... i didnt realize until that moment, how much i needed that ship. I dont know how many 100 times i have watched this scene
I remember exactly when in 1993 I first saw Encounter at Farpoint in tv. I was about 5-6 years old and I only knew Enterprise A of Kirk and Spock. I remember I fell in love with D from the first sight.
@@thomasnieswandt8805 I was 4 when TNG first hit the TV, I had already been kind of glued to Star Trek and the original crew because it was in space. Then, Star Trek: The Next Generation comes out. First episode, seeing Enterprise D..... been hooked ever since. And it helps that many of the things TNG showed us have come true, now. The Enterprise D felt like home and a living thing in its own right. I admit I cried when they destroyed her in Generations lol. And, I straight up had goose bumps and cried again seeing the doors to Bay 12 open, and tears remained till she warped out of the shot. I have been watching Star Trek WAY too long lol
As one who watched TOS from premier to cancelation and every episode 50 or 60 times in syndication there is nothing that can compare to the drydock fly by in STTMP. We thought we would never see ENTERPRISE again and there she was. Most movies don't give me goose bumps but that scene did.
My man! It WAS glorious, wasn't it? I know people crap on it, but, warts & all, I still think STTMP is an intriguing movie. Not perfect, but it really FELT like Star Trek...😁
See, i always thought it was too drawn out and unnessecary, but when you see the Enterprise D reveal in Picard season 3 i 'got it'. I grew up with the TNG so seeing the D again after all these years made me quite really quite emotional, like an 'old friend' returning. And i realise now that for those who grew up watching TOS to then see the Enterprise again after all those years, in all it's gloury, on the big screen, with the amazing music... yeah, i get it now... :)
It was tremendous eye and ear candy. The symphony that encompassed that reveal was and is still, in my opinion, the greatest star ship reveal of all time.
I would add the Enterprise reveal in TMP. I was too young to have seen it in theaters, but I remember watching it on HBO at my Aunt's house when I was young and being transfixed. Also the Klingon ship reveal was pretty epic in TMP.
People criticise the scene for being slow and self-indulgent. To which I say, so what? I wouldn't change or cut any of it. It's beautiful and gets me every time.
The Enterprise reveal in Star Trek 2009 had the same effect on me, as the shuttle with McCoy and Kirk swings around another ship to show the ship from underneath then the slow pan over the saucer.
In the cinema all those years ago 9 year old me would’ve agreed. 53 year old me still loves the refit ship but thinks that scene seems to go on longer every time I watch the movie again. It’s still a pretty good reveal though.
"That's why I called all of them." Lower Decks, The Stars at Night. After watching the Cerritos get pummeled by the Aledo drone ship. Just as the abandon ship order is being give, Mariner shows up and then the Oakland. And then another, and another, and another. The sequence is amazing as more and more ships arrive and Boimler is reading off a long list of names of all the different ships showing up to have the back of their sister ship. Man... That always gets the feels going.
I was in the cinema with a friend at the opening of TMP, seeing the Enterprise on the big screen like that for the first time was just epic, several in the cinema actually gasped and one individual stated unashamedly out loud "There she is!!!". It was a powerful moment for sure!
@donise8406 I'm glad I'm not the only one. My wife can't understand my emotional attachment to a made up space ship on a TV show. One of my earliest memories is watching Star Trek reruns. I'll never forget the feeling excitement seeing the Enterprise streak across the screen with the opening theme playing. Gives me chills. Had the same reaction seeing most of the reveals mentioned.
Right?! That reveal of the refitted E blew my 11-year-old mind seeing it on the big screen, what an amazing experience. We had it good, didn't we? 1977-1982 had some of the greatest films of all time, and we were there firsthand. What a blessing 😁
The only reason this must not be number one is that it's a beautiful dramatic slow reveal. I hear they touched up the Kirk and Scotty projection into the shuttle, which is the only thing that breaks belief. The scene is gorgeously choreographed. Tiny (but recognizable) bits of the ship slowly being revealed. Music swells. And the reaction of the two actors. Utterly beautifully done.
The greatest for me is the reveal of the Enterprise-A at the end of Star Trek IV. I LOVE that movie so much, especially because it doesn’t show the Enterprise at all until the very end. It’s like, you were having a great time watching the movie, but you know there’s just ONE member of the family that’s not there. Then at the end, you’re led to believe that they’re getting Excelsior……until the Trek theme is played and we pan BEYOND Excelsior to Constitution refit NCC-1701-A. I swear, I wish I was old enough to be in the theater watching this. I would’ve cheered and clapped so much!
You're all too young!! The reveal of the Enterprise in Star Trek: The Motion Picture was beyond words, and the most thrilling moment in over 55 years of this being part of my life.
I was so fortunate to be able to take my Father to see the recent re-screening of TMP in my local theater. An incredible experience to hear Jerry Goldsmith's score on the massive speaker system.
In no order: The Bounty decloaking above the whaling ship Enterprise-A at the end of Voyage Home The Enterprise in TMP Discovery meets Enterprise The Kumari under Shran swoops in to help Archer fight the Xindi weapon at Earth The Enterprise appears on the Defiant viewscreen in Trials and Tribble-ations Enterprise-D arrives above Picard, Jack, Worf and Riiker in Picard 3:10 The Vengeance catching the Enteprise at warp in Trek into Darkness and giving it a right coating The Bird of Prey decloaks and fires a plasma torpedo at the Enteprise in Balance of Terror And of course, the arrival of the Fesarius in Corbomite Maneuver. The original effects work is phenomenal, Fred Steiner's score in incredible as this massive, MASSIVE ship approaches, fills the screen and makes the Enteprise appear like a tiny gnat in comparison. I still think its the greatest ship reveal in Trek history.
There's no shortage of great entrances by starships. But a few honourable mentions: - Kelvin Enterprise rising out of Titan in 2009 Star Trek. I like how the negative space of Saturn's rings makes a Starfleet arrowhead. - USS Shenzhou descending through the clouds in "The Vulcan Hello". It's not as much a "punch the air" moment, but it's pretty cool, and I love the reveal of the tracks Burnham and Georgiou had left - USS Defiant decloaking in "The Search"
The Enterprise coming out of warp with phasers going off in the first Kelvin movie was an awesome entrance. A UA-camr put a video together where it was the Enterprise A and Excelsior vs. the Enterprise E. The helmsman said there was another ship coming in. It’s the Enterprise, and this ship suddenly came out of warp to help in the fight against the E. It was funny and unexpected.
The Kelvin Enterprise rising out of Titan is my all time favorite entrance. Just gives me chills every time. Such a powerful moment made all the more powerful knowing that this Kelvin Timeline crew had just found its legs and was going to kick some major butt!
-"Kelvin Enterprise rising out of Titan in 2009 Star Trek." Add my vote to this. The remake movies have their issues, but this shot hits all of my eye candy buttons.
I always liked the "My friends, the great experiment" reveal of the Excelsior in Star Trek III. The Constitution class was always the most impressive Starfleet ship we'd ever seen in Star Trek. That reveal of the Excelsior showed for the first time that the ships are getting bigger and cooler.
That movie really built the world of Starfleet a lot, even though we only saw 2 new ships and a Spacedock. Before that, the Enterprise was "the only ship in the sector", which seemed dumb especially around Earth.
I'm probably going to get hate for this, but the Kelvin Timeline had some awesome entrances too. Enterprise in Saturn's Rings in Star Trek 2009, Enterprise Rising out of THE WATER in Into Darkness. maybe the Vengeance introduction in Into Darkness as well. What about the ENTIRE CALIFORNIA CLASS showing up in "The Stars at Night"?? The Vulcan ship Sh'Vahl appearing to rescue the Cerritos in "We Duj" easily enough entries for another one
These were the same two I’d add to the list as well! (Specifically Sulu showing up to the rescue with the Kelvin Enterprise, and the fleet of California class ships)
I know it's basically just the Titan's arrival re-done, but the entry of the entire California-class fleet at the end of Lower Decks season 3 was just awesome. Not just for the sense of cameraderie, but also because it's these plucky little lower-tier starships cementing once and for all that they're a force to be reckoned with. Naked Cerritos at the end of season 2 also deserves an honourable mention.
The Enterprise-Refit from TMP should have been on the list. It's a long scene but it's gorgeous looking. The original fans of TOS must have loved how it looked.
11:45 gives such strong Wil Wheaton vibes (and that's absolutely a complement). Something about that "It was cool" felt like how he would say it - the tone, the expression. That unabashed enthusiasm for such a great moment.
Say what you will about it, and people have, but I still fondly remember seeing the reveal of the Enterprise in the first Star Movie. As always thank you so very much for the videos. And on a personal note: A shout out to a college friend of mine who I saw the movie with in theaters, and who went on to work at ILM, and has credits in many of the Star Trek TV shows, and is currently in Hospital battling Brain Cancer. ♥
I agree with you. And for some reason, I got a similar secondary emotional impact from the Enterprise leaving it's moorings and slowly edging out of Spacedock under its own power for the first time. I think the triumphant musical score that accompanied it may have been a factor.
NUMBER 1 is the REBIRTH scene of the Enterprise D in Picard season 3. when Gordi revealed her everyone YES EVERYONE got emotional. there were tears there were CHEERS.seeing her again I said OMG! she's back it was like seeing a long missed relative. if I could have I would have hugged her and said we missed you.
The non-Federation ships we'd seen up till that point were pretty meh. Then we're almost to the end of a pretty damn dull episode and "wham" that thing shows up looking beautiful and dangerous. And bonus points for Marc Alaimo being one of the Romulans.
@@JohnnyWednesday Oh come on now! For everything B5 succeeds at (and it definitely has some major plus points) starship aesthetics is WELL down the list. I can only think of maybe... ten... ships on B5 that aren't physically painful to look at.
I can’t believe the intro of the refit Enterprise in TMP didn’t make the list. That was the first time Star Trek had been on the big screen and they knew how much people would be eager to see the updated ship. No CGI needed, just a stunning model, powerful score and what feels like 10 minutes of gratuitous shots flying around the ship.
1. The Strange New Worlds credits sequence 2. The Titan shooing away the Pakleds 3. "Target that explosion and fire!" 4. The introduction to the Scimitar 5. The introduction of the Shrike 6. The Enterprise meeting the Discovery 7. The Enterprise rising out of the water and breaking the Prime Directive 8. The introduction of Rios' Stargazer 9. The launch of the Phoenix 10. The launch of the NX-01
@@harcomou8395 I love that we can disagree and still be civil. That's what I love about the Trek franchise. We respect each other and our different points of view.
@@AndrewD8Red appreciated. Well, how can someone not have the E-D and the E-E (especially the described scene of FC in the trek-culture-vid) ? That's like those Bond-lists where Goldfinger and from russia with love are not in the top 5 😄 But again: It is in the eye of the viewer/consumer. Nice to meet you, LLAP 🖖🏻
The Enterprise-A reveal at the end of The Voyage Home. As much as the destruction of the first Enterprise was a shock in The Search For Spock, that bit where the orbital shuttle heads towards the Excelsior to tease us a little before flying over its saucer to reveal the newly rechristened Enterprise-A was like a big hug for all the ship fans. Doesn’t matter that it’s a familiar class of ship, it mattered that it was an Enterprise. Great way to end the movie.
When Sulu brings the Enterprise to the rescue with guns ablazin to rescue Kirk, Spock, and Pike in Star Trek (2009) with the music punch always gave me chills.
There are a ton of awesome starship entrances to choose from, so I can see this list being a little hard to narrow down. My personal favorite occurs in DS9's third season episode "The Die is Cast" when the USS Defiant decloaked in front of Odo and Garak's runabout before she dove headfirst into battle against the Jem'Hadar. Amazing scene!
Still a little disturbed that they NEVER explained how the Enterprise got "disabled" leading up to that scene (yeah, plot device / macguffin to let Pike take command of Discovery... but to leave it as "whelp... my ship broke so I need yours"... kinda lame writing for what was otherwise a pretty compelling season 2). Though, while we're at it... if the seven "red bursts" occurred simultaneously... how did the Federation observe them? They would have appeared (to eyes/telescopes/sensors) at times that are hundreds/thousands/tens-of-thousands of years apart. I liked the season... so I forgive for the sake of moving the plot forward, but I like a bit of science with my science fiction 😉
That was a wonderful scene and the reaction of the whalers. It was like a fire breathing dragon just popped up over thier heads. The hunters realizing they were the next meal.
Personally a couple of Klingon Bird Of Prey Entrances could make your next list. 1. The Klingon ships that de-cloak to help the Enterprise at the end of "The Defector" and in "Redemption - Part 1" when Kurn's Bird of Prey comes to the aid of Gowron and Worf on the Vortas.
These lists are hard to narrow down for sure. But I think there was room for sure for either: - The Enterprise rising up behind the Reliant inside the Mutara Nebula with that beautiful James Horner score in TWOK. - Or even the Reliant giving chase to the Enterprise into the nebula "There she is..." along with Khan's theme blaring those glorious french horns - And the de-cloaking of the Klingon Bird of Prey over the Genesis Planet before it destroys the USS Grissom in TSFS Sure it's the second appearance in the film, but so much more dramatic.
Also, the Star Trek Into Darkness reveal of the Enterprise coming out of the water. That was something else! All the feels. Deserves a spot on this list.
The klingon fleet arriving in sacrifice of angels is epic. I especially like how it reminds everyone that space is 3 dimensional and there's no real reason for nearly every other ship to be oriented the same way up
Great list have to admit when The Defiant(DS9,) debuted was a shock. A Federation starship with a cloaking device as well as being a warship. The Romulan Warbird first appearance(The Neutral zone TNG season 1 finale). The reveal of the Enterprise A(The Voyage home).
It's not an entrance, but in Picard season 3, Roe's ship after she crashed into it. When it rose back up, still burning, powering up? It looked MAD. Gave me goosebumps.
I kind of feel that Voyager's finale, Endgame's, introductions of ablative armor on both the alternate timeline Janeway's shuttle and to a much greater effect, Voyager, were on their own sort of giving the same feeling as a great ship entrance. The first time the Defiant kicked some tail was amazing to me too. I thought that the Defiant lacked that feeling in First Contact despite being a so-called Borg fighting design... not just in its performance against the cube, which was reasonably decent of course, but also in the Defiant's new, but quite underwhelming sound effects for its pulse phasers, which had waaaayyy more kick on DS9. There were probably many more times than one when the Enterprise D had crazy good scenes too, the most recent and maybe the most powerful being Picard's finale. It's actually my favorite ship.
my fav shots are : 1701E in the nebula at start of First Contact, the A leaving Spacedock in ST6 (also the A leaving Earth orbit in ST5), the arrival of the Valdore in Nemesis (really nice design for a Romulan warbird), the closeup of 1701 in Wrath of Khan coming alongside the Regula 1 station and matching speeds (appearing to stop relative to the station) and the entire Mutara battle sequence.
We were surprised that Federation HQ could do that because we made the mistake of assuming it was just a space Station… instead of what it really is, the “Pax”-class starship USS Federation.
My vote would be for the Enterprise-refit reveal in TMP (yes it's long and slow like much of the rest of the film but in that particular case it's obviously a visual love letter to the new beauty of the classic ship seen on the big screen for the first time ever - THAT's sexy). A close 2nd would be the reveal of the Enterprise-A in Voyage Home - after losing the original in Search for Spock, seeing her named successor? People in the theater CHEERED when we saw it. It was the Vader-throws-the-Emperor-down-the-shaft moment in the original Return of the Jedi, it was the return-of-all-the-snapped-heroes moment of Avengers Endgame. Just pure give-the-audience-joy magic.
If you wanted to start a list of reveals in other properties, the monolith over Jupiter in 2001: A Space Odyssey was pretty amazing. Black against the blackness of space, revealing itself by blocking stars with finally a glint of light off the surface.
So many great scenes for me, but three others for me not seen on this list, The USS Enterprise arriving in the first season finale of Discovery. The Enterprise-D reveal in Encounter at Farpoint. The Enterprise-C flying out the rift in Yesterday's Enterprise. She's battered but she's still got a presence about her that only comes with the Enterprise.
Sean, I have to say, I was watching this video while eating dinner, your number 1 pick actually made me call out for joy and pump my arm up. I absolutely loved the entrance of the Artifact during that fight. It is perhaps the single best ship entrance Trek has ever done I think. Please keep up the good content guys.
It has been rolling around the interwebz for pretty soon after the episode dropped; hell, think I might've mentioned it on one of the Trek Culture vids about the end of S3...
The entrance of the K'tinga class ships in Star Trek TMP was truly inspiring. It gives us a taste of how the Klingons had evolved from the original series to what they would become in later franchises. Also, Enterprise D in Yesterday's Enterprise, engaging three K'vort class Klingon battle cruisers with multiply vectored phaser shots and photon torpedo dispersal patterns. And Picards John Paul Jones moment, "Let's make sure that history never forgets the name... ENTERPRISE!!"
For me, the most stirring reveal was in Star Trek The Motion Picture when Scotty flies Admiral Kirk up to the space dock to see the refit. We had hoped and waited for the 10 years after the original series ended to see this!
Thank you kindly for your request for kindness, compassion, and civil discussion. You're right, as Trekkers/Trekkies we need to respect our experiences and shared love for all aspects of this wonderful space, the final frontier.
Sorry, but you missed the best one by far - the introduction of the Enterprise Refit in Star Trek: TMP. That was 6 minutes of pure awesome, and should be #1 on this list, period. Otherwise, good list!
The California-class cavalry moment from Lower Decks is still one of my all time favorite Star Trek dynamic ship entrances. Especially given that it was an amazing payoff to the earlier setup where the _Cerritos_ was renowed among the Cali-class crews as being the _"Enterprise_ of support ships."
I came here specifically for this comment. Just rewatched this ep. Mariner showing up with all the Cali ships. Chills. To quote Scotty: "Brought a tear to me eye"
Mildly surprised that the Enterprise bursting in to save Spock in the 2009 movie didn't make the list. It was such an interesting scene to me, the "hell yeah!" of it coming out of warp, guns blazing, intercut with shots of the crew being utterly cool and business-like on the bridge as they did it. Easily one of my all-time favorites. :)
The reveal of the Enterprise D in Picard season 3 is probably my favorite reveal. That hit me in all of the feels. Tbe music too. That was just ... amazing.
That shot with the Enterprise D Refit is one of the very few that really uses the 3rd dimension in space. Most other battles all the ships are more or less on the same plane.
Mine is the intro of the refitted USS Enterprise in Star Trek: The Motion Picture, with Admiral James T. Kirk & Cmdr. Montgomery Scott inspecting her as Jerry Goldsmith's 'Enterprise' theme plays in the background. In the novelization of Star Trek VI, Capt. Sulu orders the USS Excelsior to go to Warp 10. And Uhura also contributed to the modification of the photon torpedo to a heat seeker - it was her idea, after all. The intro of the Imperial Klingon Fleet flagship Negh'var in DS9's The Way of the Warrior was also great.
The shot of the Akira-class above the Enterprise-E just letting loose a salvo of torpedoes and moving away is so damn iconic. That scene made me fall in love with both classes the Sovereign and the Akira. I wish the USS Thunderchild got a shout out, that ship was used for quite a few shots and actually held a lot of importance for being a single heavy cruiser in the franchise.
I remember that Klingon Cleave ship moment, it's very memorable. So much so, that in the Battle of the Binary Stars TFO in Star Trek Online, they perfectly recreated the ship slicing through the USS Europa. Serious credit to the developers for recreating that scene so perfectly.
I'm on board with the number one pick. Also, the build up from Seven and Hugh with the emotions that came along with that broke in that scene did shock me a little. Then, the shock changed to an ear-to-ear smile when I saw this scene for the first time because I knew who it was who was flying the Cube.
@vorpal120 Yesss, they really buildt up Seven so well in Picard. So much potential with her. And her being the new captain on Enterprise G, I knew it would be her. Seeing her with that smile when she gives the order to ?????. Made emotions materialize in the corner of my eyes. I am biased, have always loved Seven from the very beginning. Shure hope we will see more to her and Enterprise soon.Have a hunch that additions and changes to Enterprises crew will come as the story goes on. Star Trek is so great because everyone can find caracters, ships and stories to either love or hate.
Thank you for doing this list! How about the Botany Bay decloaking over the Russian whaling ship. It was one of the three scenes that made the crowd in the theatre to go completely bonkers. (Nuclear Wessals and the punk scene being the other two) LLAP 🖖
Many of you will never understand the full impact of seeing the refit USS Enterprise in Star Trek the Motion Picture for the first time. It was not long after the Klingon Battle against V'Ger and we were transfixed, but then that journey from the transporter platform to the Enterprise. Wow. It is December 1979, Star Wars was still very fresh (with that overhead shot of the Star Destroyer). Star Trek The Original Series was ten years old and much seen and we were so waiting.
Solid list. I may shuffle it a bit but I mostly agree. I would have liked to see the entire California Class fleet showing up together make at least an honorable mention. That was pretty incredible. Even Boimler's voice when he is announcing them says it all.
In these examples, it amazes me how the model shots from the 80's and early 90's look so much better than the CG shots from the late 2010's and now. They're just so clean and crisp compared to the muddied shots of disco and picard. I'd go so far as to say the animated Lower Decks and Prodigy look better here.
I almost never like any star trek ship design, at first; and almost always grow to love every ship desgin. The EnterpriseD tho. . . its entrance was my most over looked cool intro. Thanks for giving me a new perspective.
The Enterprise D refit (aka Galaxy-X) had a phaser LANCE, not cannon. It fired a concentrated, high damage lance of phaser energy. Phaser cannons, on the other hand, are what the Defiant had.
I don't know if it is technically an entrance, but in Star Trek II, I always feel a thrill when the Enterprise comes up behind the Reliant during the nebula battle.
Surprise Strange New Worlds didn't make the list. Enterprise is absolutely stunning in every shot, and I love the shot when they arrive to intervene in a fight between two much smaller ships. Strange New Worlds Enterprise always feels so immense and powerful when on screen.
Interesting choices. Not the list I was expecting, especially near the top. At the top I would have: - Enterprise A reveal at the end of ST:IV - Cerritos in Crisis Point (all "JJ"d up, anamorphic, lens flairs, Corinthian leather seats, theatrical score) - Screen stabilizing to reveal TOS Enterprise in Trials and Tribble-ations (DS9 506) - Enterprise arriving at the end of Discovery season 1 - Enterprise C emerging from the temporal anomaly - Enterprise G reveal in Picard 310 including hook - Hanger 12 entrance and Enterprise D reveal and bridge entrance in Picard 309 Not necessarily in that exact order.
I agree with the Sulu flying the Excelsior entrance. Another of my favs, is the 3 Klingon ships at the beginning of Star Trek 1 The Motion Picture, the way the music elevated the suspense was amazing!
This plus, plus, plus needs a part 2. ... And please can we have some love for the initial Enterprise zoom from The Cage? OK, it's 60 years old but the zooming shot as we move closer and close to Pikes ship, we can see all that gorgeous detail and then we loop over the top and move directly into the Enterprise bridge. It's an incredible piece of production and really showcases the beauty of the Enterprise. Also, the Bounty in Voyage Home. Specifically the scene where it appears directly above the whaling ship. An amazing punch-the-air scene. (could also include any of the moments where the ship is cloaked in the middle of the park). Finally... And more deserving even than the Luna Titan. The finale of Lower Decks S3. The idea of the Ceretos being rescued has become a bit of a cliche by this point so the idea is completely subverted when instead of the Enterprise E or the Defiant or some other hero ship appearing.... The Ceretos is saved by dozens of Calli class ships all working together. It's like the little ships saving the Allied forces at Dunkirk. And utterly goes to show that it's not size that matters in the Trek universe, it's heart. (also Boimler exploding as he names all the incoming Calli ships is amazing) (p. S. Honerable mentions for the USS Defiant in DS9 S3... If you were watching in the 90s and didn't have access to spoilers, this was a game changing moment in the life of Next Gens poor cousin)
I haven't watched most of the entries since I don't have Paramount+ or any streaming services, but I remember when I first saw that episode with the Enterprise D in "All Good Things" and it came up vertically and just blew that Klingon battlecruiser apart with ease, I literally leaped out of my chair, fist pumped the air and yelled. It was so nice to see the Enterprise being the aggressor for once and armed with that laser cannon that seemed to disregard shielding like it was nothing.
I will be honest, the moment that the Titan dropped in was my number one. Boimler's excitement, the Pakleds' panic, Riker being Riker. Everything about it was great.
Adding 2 from the novels (original crew) 1) My Enemy My Ally :: when Enterprise has rescued Intrepid and they are leaving, but chased by Romulans, then the Constellation and Inaeiu show up and pop the ship - with Kirk, looking at McCoy and commenting on having more faith in his timing. 2) The Wounded Sky :: when Enterprise returns from her journey, and the fleet basically all mutiny to welcome her home from being outside the galaxy/universe. Yes, Diane Duane is just about my favorite Star Trek author, why do you ask?
"FLY HER APART, THEN!" is easily the best read Takei ever performed in Star Trek. You FEEL that urgency with every fiber of your being when he says that.
The entire Battle Over Khitomer is a triumph of pacing, acting and sound and visual design. A solid contender for best set piece in the whole franchise.
Nah man... Best is his silent piloting Enterprise out of spacedock in SFS when doors aren't opening. Watch him hold his nerve
@@sigil5772 That was solid acting, but there was no singular well-delivered line that he gave in that scene.
@@JoshColletta I was trolling a bit, tbh :D
@@sigil5772 Fair enough 😄
How did you miss the Enterprise rising up behind the Reliant in the tense ship-to-ship battle in Wrath of Khan? Everything about that still gives me goosebumps.
Yes. Total predator move. it was as if Kirk was saying; "No Khan. It is YOU who cannot get away."
@jasonevans3708 In the words of Steve "America's Ass" Rogers; I understood that reference!
Good scene however it was not the entrance of the ship ( og 1701 no bloody a b c or d )
that's not an entrance
That fact we get zero references in the video for The Wrath of Khan tells me enough about his content preference in Trek. 😥
This is the right answer for basically any "coolest" or "most badass" list involving star trek.
I mean the scene of 2 war birds decloaking, while enterprise drifts towards a reverse course is epic too
yep, this is the true winner of this list.
The Enterprise C was beautiful.
I would LOVE to see a series of the tenure of the Enterprise C.
Oh my god YES.
Absolutely!
I wanted Picard to say screw the timeline and give Enterprise C modern weapons and follow them back. (they'd have to actually follow them back, or Enterprise-D might not exist when C survives.)
Sure, its more somthing Kirk would do, and it'd be expensive for a tv show and it would mess up the timeline (but really, as long as the main cast isn't messed with, do we really care?).
Worf: "Prepare for ramming speed!"
Helmsman: "Sir, there's another starship coming in".
Worf: The look on his face and his body language just says "So what? We're hopelessly outclassed, they'll just be more meat for the grinder".
Helmsman: "It's the Enterprise".
Worf: Whole demeanor changes from despair to "We're gonna win! You guys are screwed now!"
As for what I'd like to see in a followup list, Gotta be the Enterprise-A at the end Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home.
Mmmmm
same that scene over 20 years later still gives me the same feeling of joy of seeing it take what mostly would have been a final hit on the defiant, and just zooming past to pick worf up
When the score changes to Klingon that really sets it all together perfectly.
then perhaps IS A GOOD DAY TO DIE
I know people hate on Nemesis but the reveal of the Scimitar was pretty cool. "She's a predator".
Also imagine if it was the refit enterprise that appeared in Picard. Geordi: "I've added some upgrades".
To be fair, would be hard to preserve a ship for the museum when you're adding extra nacelles
It's a very pretty movie, with a horrible story.
Sulu saying "then fly her apart damn it" is one of my absolute favourite lines of all trek! George is such a good actor 😁
Not necessarily a reveal, but an arrival. NCC1701 climbing up behind the Reliant in the Mutara Nebula after outmanoeuvring Khan by working in 3 dimensions.
"Have you thought about going up or down?" head explosion gif
(Though why they didn't FIRE from below- you know, point the ship up, I don't know...)
100% This!
I loved it.
Or the Nekkid Cerritos reveal; then again, given Sean's proclivities, maybe he couldn't keep it together if they included that one... =p
That scene was extra special for those of us who grew up near all those little Southern California towns and suburbs 🥰🇺🇸

USS EUREKA, WOOOOOT!! hey man, what were we doin'?...
Agreed, that was great
I liked the reveal of the Enterprise-A on the other side of the Excelsior in Star Trek 4. It wasn't expected and the actors played it wonderfully. "My friends, we've come home."
Agreed, with the theme in the background. Its epic.
How in the world did this not make the list!?
@@phenry1970 Because he had to fill it with shit from new trek.
Same. It’s got to make the list for the next one of these.
Absolutely agree - he missed a really good one
I came here to say exactly that. Might be the best ship entrance ever.
I still get misty watching that scene @@blairyc
It was tremendous eye and ear candy. The symphony that encompassed that reveal was and is still, in my opinion, the greatest star ship reveal of all time.
I would add the Enterprise reveal in TMP. I was too young to have seen it in theaters, but I remember watching it on HBO at my Aunt's house when I was young and being transfixed. Also the Klingon ship reveal was pretty epic in TMP.
Yes, this too!!
Ditto! Got teary eyed at the drive-in theatre in 1979 and still get chills from that scene!
The Enterprise E flying out of that nebula in First Contract is a stunning shot
Twas beautiful enough to become full framed posters and beauty shots for numerous magazines!
I was in the cinema with a friend at the opening of TMP, seeing the Enterprise on the big screen like that for the first time was just epic, several in the cinema actually gasped and one individual stated unashamedly out loud "There she is!!!". It was a powerful moment for sure!
YEP :)
Being a OG and not having the Enterprise in forever seeing it in TMP Space Dock brought tears to my eyes.
Sorry you missed it but everyone definitely cheered
It was an awesome moment. I got a little teary eyed the first time and most times since then.
It was a beautiful moment! My friends and I jumped out of our chairs and clapped like crazy!!
You're all too young!! The reveal of the Enterprise in Star Trek: The Motion Picture was beyond words, and the most thrilling moment in over 55 years of this being part of my life.
I loved the original and was upset that they changed everything. So TMP ENTERPRISE didn’t even seem like the same ship to me.
I was so fortunate to be able to take my Father to see the recent re-screening of TMP in my local theater. An incredible experience to hear Jerry Goldsmith's score on the massive speaker system.
You bringing up the Titan in No Small Parts gave me full on goosebumps. I love that moment so much.
Came in looking for the Titan. Was not disappointed.
In no order: The Bounty decloaking above the whaling ship
Enterprise-A at the end of Voyage Home
The Enterprise in TMP
Discovery meets Enterprise
The Kumari under Shran swoops in to help Archer fight the Xindi weapon at Earth
The Enterprise appears on the Defiant viewscreen in Trials and Tribble-ations
Enterprise-D arrives above Picard, Jack, Worf and Riiker in Picard 3:10
The Vengeance catching the Enteprise at warp in Trek into Darkness and giving it a right coating
The Bird of Prey decloaks and fires a plasma torpedo at the Enteprise in Balance of Terror
And of course, the arrival of the Fesarius in Corbomite Maneuver.
But a few honourable mentions:
- Kelvin Enterprise rising out of Titan in 2009 Star Trek. I like how the negative space of Saturn's rings makes a Starfleet arrowhead.
- USS Shenzhou descending through the clouds in "The Vulcan Hello". It's not as much a "punch the air" moment, but it's pretty cool, and I love the reveal of the tracks Burnham and Georgiou had left
- USS Defiant decloaking in "The Search"
What is this Kelvin and Shenzou? Sounds like bad nightmares.
Agree.
The Kelvin Enterprise coming to the rescue of the Jellyfish is a great scene.
The first reveal of the Defiant.
The Vulcan ship Sh'Vahl appearing to rescue the Cerritos in "We Duj"
easily enough entries for another one
These were the same two I’d add to the list as well! (Specifically Sulu showing up to the rescue with the Kelvin Enterprise, and the fleet of California class ships)
Oh the Vengeance warp entrance. "Sir, I'm getting a reading I don't understand"
THANK YOU; still hoping we get a mini of the Nekkid Cerritos...
The Enterprise-Refit from TMP should have been on the list. It's a long scene but it's gorgeous looking. The original fans of TOS must have loved how it looked.
The constitution class refit is the best looking starship the franchise has ever made, hands down.
@@White-Wolf1969All the rest are just variations on that theme

Yeah, that would have been in my top 3 if not number 1.
Came to say this! How coulds ya ignore it, Seanie?
I agree with you. And for some reason, I got a similar secondary emotional impact from the Enterprise leaving it's moorings and slowly edging out of Spacedock under its own power for the first time. I think the triumphant musical score that accompanied it may have been a factor.
That shot always gets me! Jerry Goldsmith's beautiful, iconic, cinematic score made it the best scene ever!
Supposedly they held back letting the cast see the bridge until that scene was filmed so that they could capture the real emotion
I cried. I'm not ashamed to say that. I think the reveal of the Enterprise D in Picard Season 3 was what we were all waiting for.
My favourite is the D'Deridex warbird.
The way it folds out of the stars, music swelling, and everyone on the bridge falls silent.
Love it.
The non-Federation ships we'd seen up till that point were pretty meh. Then we're almost to the end of a pretty damn dull episode and "wham" that thing shows up looking beautiful and dangerous. And bonus points for Marc Alaimo being one of the Romulans.
The Warbird is so pretty it could be in Babylon 5 ;)

Oh come on now!

That was the one I thought should have been #1 on the list
There are a ton of awesome starship entrances to choose from, so I can see this list being a little hard to narrow down. My personal favorite occurs in DS9's third season episode "The Die is Cast" when the USS Defiant decloaked in front of Odo and Garak's runabout before she dove headfirst into battle against the Jem'Hadar. Amazing scene!
THIS!!!
My favourite too.
The sight of that combined Cardassian Romulan fleet decloaking was amazing as well!
I would’ve added the entrance of 1701 from the end of Season 1 of Discovery, because who would’ve thought we’d actually SEE that ship then?
That entrance is what got me to check out discovery. I missed season one when it first aired.
You mean N...c...c...1...7...0
...1!
I am surprised I had to scroll down this far to find someone who agrees with me on this.
That was saved for the ship reveal video
Honor mention. Bounty bird of prey decloaking over whailing vessel in IV. Also Romulan warbirds decloaking in support against the dominion. Epic
That was a wonderful scene and the reaction of the whalers. It was like a fire breathing dragon just popped up over thier heads. The hunters realizing they were the next meal.
@charlesmaurer6214 Yeah they couldn't have had a more terrifying ship to do it with. Love the bird of preys
But I think there was room for sure for either:
- The Enterprise rising up behind the Reliant inside the Mutara Nebula with that beautiful James Horner score in TWOK.
- Or even the Reliant giving chase to the Enterprise into the nebula "There she is..." along with Khan's theme blaring those glorious french horns
- And the de-cloaking of the Klingon Bird of Prey over the Genesis Planet before it destroys the USS Grissom in TSFS
Sure it's the second appearance in the film, but so much more dramatic.
Also, the Star Trek Into Darkness reveal of the Enterprise coming out of the water. That was something else! All the feels. Deserves a spot on this list.
I came to post this.
For a great "oh shit" moment I'd also add when the Vengeance comes barrelling in behind the Enterprise when they think they're safe in warp.
Yeah man, maybe I just love really awesome shots - but that is one of the best in the franchise. In concept and execution.
"Fly her apart then" is one of my absolute favorite movie lines ever 😁
The E entrance Into sector 001 was bad ass
The klingon fleet arriving in sacrifice of angels is epic.
I especially like how it reminds everyone that space is 3 dimensional and there's no real reason for nearly every other ship to be oriented the same way up
Great list have to admit when The Defiant(DS9,) debuted was a shock. A Federation starship with a cloaking device as well as being a warship. The Romulan Warbird first appearance(The Neutral zone TNG season 1 finale).
The reveal of the Enterprise A(The Voyage home).
Agree!!! The Defiant’s existence changed the tone of the series going forward. Very important moment for DS9.
@cassieo I just loved how they described The Defiant as a overpowered and overturned compact warship.
Oh yeah, that ablative armor clanking into place 100% lives rent-free in my head. That’s a core, formative memory for me 😎
my fav shots are : 1701E in the nebula at start of First Contact, the A leaving Spacedock in ST6 (also the A leaving Earth orbit in ST5), the arrival of the Valdore in Nemesis (really nice design for a Romulan warbird), the closeup of 1701 in Wrath of Khan coming alongside the Regula 1 station and matching speeds (appearing to stop relative to the station) and the entire Mutara battle sequence.
We were surprised that Federation HQ could do that because we made the mistake of assuming it was just a space Station… instead of what it really is, the “Pax”-class starship USS Federation.
Reminded me of when Balamb Garden took off and floated across the world in Final Fantasy VIII.
9:15 - Yeah, brilliant's a good way to describe ST: Prodigy. It's so, so good.
So many great scenes for me, but three others for me not seen on this list,
The USS Enterprise arriving in the first season finale of Discovery.
100% agree on Trekkies showing the world a better way. Also great catch on the Pakled comment about another Enterprise.
Look, the first time we see the Enterprise-E in 'First Contact', just cruising along majestically, is utterly breathtaking.
11/10 for the Sulu impression @Sean 😂
Worst impression I've ever heard.
He sounds more like Jackman as Logan.
I still love the entrance of the Enterprise to save the Jellyfish in Trek 2009
I honestly expected that one to be #1, cause that was epic.
Major honorable mention: The Enterprise, no bloody A, B, C, or D, from TMP. Six minutes of Kirk gushing over his one true love? Priceless.
Your choice for #1 is absolutely correct. Jaw-dropping.
The Enterprise's entrance in the "fire everything" scene in Star Trek 2009 deserves a spot. Fantastic moment
Should have been #1 on this list
Agreed.
Number 2 on this list will ALWAYS be Number 1 on my list. I get CHILLS every time I hear that line Adam Scott delivers!
Also, for the sequel list… the birds of Prey de clocking to surround the Romualans in “the defector.”
Best of Both Worlds... The moment they find the Cube, literally sends chills every time with the music score.
Thank you for doing this list! How about the Botany Bay decloaking over the Russian whaling ship. It was one of the three scenes that made the crowd in the theatre to go completely bonkers. (Nuclear Wessals and the punk scene being the other two) LLAP 🖖
I love that scene too! It's the "Bounty" though, Botany Bay was Khan's ship
"Captain I'm picking up another ship" as the enterprise saves spock from Star Trek 2009 is an amazing entrance. Really should be on here.
Sean, you want an intervention? Do a list on the top uniforms!
Why stop there? Clearly, we need a twenty-part longform project of Every Federation Uniform Style, Ranked Worst to Best.
Sulu's *Excelsior* in STVI 😍
I was finally convinced to watch the new Star Trek Picard series because of this video. Thanks for editing and making this video for us Trek nerds.
Solid list. I may shuffle it a bit but I mostly agree. I would have liked to see the entire California Class fleet showing up together make at least an honorable mention. That was pretty incredible. Even Boimler's voice when he is announcing them says it all.
I was expecting this to be #1, honestly. Epic is the only way I can describe that.
The Titan scene is one of my favorite in all of Star Trek. Just 1 minute of perfection
I don't think they specified the names of either in canon.
hehe
"Cannons in canon."
In STO it is called a "Phaser Spinal Lance"
I don't know if it is technically an entrance, but in Star Trek II, I always feel a thrill when the Enterprise comes up behind the Reliant during the nebula battle.
Surprise Strange New Worlds didn't make the list. Enterprise is absolutely stunning in every shot, and I love the shot when they arrive to intervene in a fight between two much smaller ships. Strange New Worlds Enterprise always feels so immense and powerful when on screen.
I mainly watch Star Trek for the ships, and I'm not ashamed to admit it :)
The entrance of the Enterprise with Pike in the last episode of season one discovery.. brought tears to my eyes.
Interesting choices. Not the list I was expecting, especially near the top. At the top I would have:
- Enterprise A reveal at the end of ST:IV
- Cerritos in Crisis Point (all "JJ"d up, anamorphic, lens flairs, Corinthian leather seats, theatrical score)
- Screen stabilizing to reveal TOS Enterprise in Trials and Tribble-ations (DS9 506)
- Enterprise arriving at the end of Discovery season 1
- Enterprise C emerging from the temporal anomaly
- Enterprise G reveal in Picard 310 including hook
- Hanger 12 entrance and Enterprise D reveal and bridge entrance in Picard 309
Not necessarily in that exact order.
An important one for me is the Defiant decloaking the first time and then revealing Sisko as in command. Love it.
(also Boimler exploding as he names all the incoming Calli ships is amazing)
I feel that the arrival of the original NCC-1701 in the DS9 Tribble episode was as amazing to see her again since the series ended.
More of these please
Adding 2 from the novels (original crew)
1) My Enemy My Ally :: when Enterprise has rescued Intrepid and they are leaving, but chased by Romulans, then the Constellation and Inaeiu show up and pop the ship - with Kirk, looking at McCoy and commenting on having more faith in his timing.
2) The Wounded Sky :: when Enterprise returns from her journey, and the fleet basically all mutiny to welcome her home from being outside the galaxy/universe.
Yes, Diane Duane is just about my favorite Star Trek author, why do you ask?
