My 81 year old mother just loves watching your channel on her television. I arrived to help take care of her this week and my mom is suffering from beginning dementia. I introduced her to your channel just today. My mom now takes notes while you describe items you find. She is able to interact with you speaking out loud and she'll turn to me and ask questions. She remembers her father collecting and digging bottles in Stockton, CA in the 1950's. We appreciate how you always label every find you dig up along with the history. She gets a kick how you say, "Wow"! She laughs anytime you say it. Thank you for all you do!! ❤ It's truly a new activity for us to do together as well..
haha of course. its always such a happy, calming feeling on the drive home after a great dig. hard to explain, but.. everything just feels good! thanks for watching and commenting
My dad was born in Valley City in 1925, and my grandfather in Mandan in 1892, it's so fascinating watching your unearth such items in their old 'hood.. Bravo man, bravo.

It's very thought-provoking to consider that the last hands to touch each of these artifacts were the hands of people in the 1880s...your hands are the first ones on these pieces since then. Fascinatng!
Making rare bottles common. I like seeing it. Looks like someone was quite fond of their Laudanum in the second pit. Also good to see clean and calculated excavations. Taking your time and making your work area neat.
That's what I'm talking about. When I was digging in the late sixties early seventies, that's the age we dug and earlier. Great dig. Thank you for the memories.
haha yeah. this is the age i would prefer to dig all the time lol. you just never know until your at the bottom. This weird thing happens around here where when we dig a pit, there is stuff thats like 20 years newer at the very top, and then all of the sudden it just drops 20 years in age. wonder if you noticed that? thanks for watching and commenting
@@BelowthePlains yes. Definitely notice. Never can wait till you get to the bottom of the hole. We've dug some places like that. Thanks for responding.
Surprisingly interesting video. It's weird to think about someone a couple hundred years from now digging through the dirt and getting excited about finding my old discarded pickle jars, Coke bottles, etc.
Congratulations on finding such a good spot. I'm in my 60's and I'd still like to get out and go digging again. It is the most fun you can have with your clothes on!
Two new episodes this week! this is probably one of my favorite digs. That stoneware German water bottle was amazing, you dont often find those in one piece
haha yeah that thing is amazing. ive only found a few in my life. glad you like the double feature. two more out next weekend. and MAYBE 2 the week after
👋 Tom and hi 👋 jake another good video you would not think that there had been people living there looking at the surrounding areas if it wasn't for you pair digging those old outhouse pits and finding all those bottles telling the history of early settlers and for a bonus finding the rare bottles specially 4of them well done all the best Andrew south wales uk 👍 👌 😀 🇬🇧
all of you brits are so damn nice! it honestly warms my heart that you guys care about american history! i gotta get out there someday. and thank you, thats really kind! and thanks for watching and for always leaving a comment. we really appreciate it
What a great area to be able to dig in! The history of the town is what made it so special, it burned down before any of the pit's would have been dipped and cleaned out. I hope you find more in that area, this site is historical for sure!
I'm fascinated with the depths you go to dig up bottles! I'm especially fascinated when you dig up other random pieces of earthenware and random items! The bottles are cool, but I look forward to all the other stuff! Lol!
80 years ago, my folks bought an old farmhouse in a small town near Portland, OR. Dad filled in an old cistern and a well and an old outhouse. He used bricks and rocks and garbage etc. We lived in that house for 20 years and then moved to a newer home and sold the land. I imagine now what was in those old holes before he did the rest of the filling. Actually, there was one missed that my horse stepped in and both back legs went in. Luckily, she was able to pull herself out without injury. When I see all the treasures you pull out I think back and know there must have been old bottles and such. There is an apartment now standing where our old farm house used to be.
haha yeah i do! and glad you noticed about the bottles at the end. we always get comments from people asking us to show them cleaned up lol. thanks for watching and leaving us a comment
I love watching to see what you dig up next, but also show us something a little different about your life. Show us how you get the glass home without breaking. Show us how you clean everything, and Show us your personal collection. I love the show!
I really enjoy your videos. Several years ago my company was excavating a site downtown for a new building going up. I found several bottles and little crocks. The excavator operator kept getting mad at me because I would stop him every time I saw something. At another job we found a lot of Indian pottery from a local tribe that was in the area centuries ago.
Thank you young man for such wonderful digs, I get so excited with you and your digs, the archeology is right down my alley, I can have fun and you do all the work, hope your profit is to your liking. Lots of love.Afriend.
Never seen you dig a cistern before. I have a filled in cistern under my kitchen. It would be interesting to dig it. Locally the owners of Isabel Blooms former home dug the cistern and found treasures. Original sculptures she made. This was a very enjoyable dig to watch. The OH pit as well. Thx for sharing.
haha thanks! and yes of course. should be a two-parter next weekend. im thinking friday and saturday. we saved all the good videos for this time of year. thanks for watching
I hollered "YES!" 🙌when you rolled that Redwing 3 Gallon crock over to reveal the gorgeous Bee-sting insignia on the front. Seriously ❤ I hope it gets pride of place... cheers from the Yukon🍁
Wow so cool! That second pit was a lot of fun for me. Growing up near redwing minnesota...that crock is a beauty. My grandmother immigrated from Prussia, how cool to see the mineral water bottle. She traveled as a young girl, with her family, all over the Midwest working as migrant farmers. Eventually marrying my grandfather whos family owned a farm in ND. The family still farms large scale crop acreage near Makoti, where the original soddy is still preserved. Oh how I'd love to see you dig there. Love love your channel.
I lived with my grandma in the mid 70's (middle school ) in s. Red Wing ( base of s. Hwy. 53 ) great geographical area I know the landscape well. meticulously meticulously 😊😊
Tome I freeked out when you pulled that early 1880,s Dakota hutch out , you could just see how old it was ,hand engraved letters, that look like they are sinking into the glass, nice applied top . Dang "" in the top 1% find

I’m a British digger. Although I don’t dig much these days. I like watching your videos. Did the US never use Codd bottles? With the marble in the neck? Or the two tone stone ginger beers? We get Codds all the time over here. But the stone gingers are harder to come by. Cheers! I’m busy working my way through your videos. I’ve always loved bottles. I first dug for bottles in 1981 when I was just 11 years old. Now I’m 53!👍🇬🇧
hahaha i know what you mean! in the winter time i always try to find something to do to bide by time and learn some skills... learning how to do photoshop and learning how to make hemp jewelry. gonna start using some of this old broken glass as beads. well i hope you enjoy the videos!
thank you! yeah.. too bad they cant all be this old. someday im gonna be digging up medieval cess pits in your neck of the woods! thanks for watching and commenting!
I watch all of your videos, but the pits that date to before 1890 are always the best. that older stuff is just so damn pretty compared to to the stuff that came later on. its kinda weird how the bottles seemed to get less ornate as time went on. probably because of manufacturing reasons but still
Congratulations on these wonderful pieces! I so much enjoy your videos and your excitement is contagious! Continue the hard work, we will continue learning about glass bottles and American history! So interesting! Thank you!
Wow, awesome dig! I about lurched out of my seat when I saw that Hamburger Tropeen bottle- I've got one just like it! It was in a trash pit along the Ohio River that I dug up when I was a kid.

I really never imagined I'd find myself watching a guy dig up glass bottles from pits, but wow the things he finds. This episode was just incredible.
as a kid i wanted to see this but whit dinosour bones now i am happy whit 150 year old junk
Same here! I also love Adventure archaeology and southern diggers.
half of it comes for the stuff he says about the piece and history on it
the backup research makes it nice
I came across him one day and I am hooked 😂
Love to hear your delight and enthusiasm despite being up to your elbows in old poop, while going on with identifying old bottles! 🎉
It must feel amazing to be rewarded for all your hard work in researching where to dig and to actually dig. Finds of a lifetime.

A "Holy Grail" and an "Extra Holy Grail" in the same dig.
