    As an English teacher, I can attest that there is nothing like a good book to help you take your English up a level. I am not familiar with most of these texts, probably because I am in the U.S. I use the Grammar in Context series and Grammar Explorer series and love them both for grammar. Grammar and Beyond 4 is excellent for advanced learners who want to improve their writing.

    English File starts from Beginner level, not from Elementary:)
    I try and study English with this book. It's very good but it has some little mistakes especially in tests. The mistakes are in Pronunciation keys (incorrect answers to tasks on a stressed syllable). I don't know why... I bought this book in a licensed store in Moscow. Nevertheless, it isn't a problem. These books (Teacher's Book, Student's Book, and Workbook) are impressive. I have no cause to complain, because I found those mistakes by myself:)
    (From Russia with love (not war))

    • @The-English-Professor
      @The-English-Professor  Рік тому +1

      Good comment Sir. I find the difference between Beginner and Elementary to be negligible so I feel the Elementary book is suitable for most students to start with. I am not aware of any mistakes with stressed syllables due to the fact that I always ensure that my students are pronouncing words accurately. There can sometimes be a difference in stress from one accent to another too. I think your English must be very good so I don't think for you it's a problem! 😊 David

      @@The-English-Professor Thank you, David!🙂
      By the way Russians do mistakes in their home language😅 They wonder why this syllable is stressed and not that one! Because they get used to an incorrect emphasis😄 It's almost like "garage" in English, I think... There are three different ways for pronouncing as I remember...
      (Sorry for my English, I just study😁)

      Both are good series but I suppose it comes down to personal taste. If I could only choose one, I think I would choose the Oxford Word Skills series.

    By the way, could you recomend a C2 level book for exams like CPE? It's been quite a long time since I last studied English in my life, maybe almost ten years and I'm always saying to myself that I need to take this CPE exam and I end up never taking it at the end of the day, but I know I kinda need it. Can you recomend me some pls? Again thaks for your amazing channel!

    David, and what do you think about the Enterprise? I have been working with these books for many years, and I completely satisfied with its result.

    • @The-English-Professor
      @The-English-Professor  Рік тому +1

      Yes I used the Enterprise series of books in the past but found that more recently written books are easier to use for students. The Enterprise books are still quite good but aren't my first choice. David

      Yes, the biggest hint is spelling e.g. colour (Br.Eng) v. color (Am.Eng). Grammar is mostly the same. David

    Hi David! Thanks a lot for your suggestions!
    I've got a big challenge at the moment and I'd really appreciate any recommendations. I must teach a group of students, aged 15-17 who have an A1-A2 level of English. Most of the course books I know and have used are secondary, 5-6 level textbooks. I cannot use their elementary level, since the content is designed for 11-12-year-olds. So, I am trying to find a good A2 level book with content that would be more appropriate for older students. I have seen some samples of Oxford English File and New Headway, or Cambridge Empower;but they seem to be too much adult learner oriented, and less teenager focused. Any thoughts and suggestions would be of great help. Thanks!

    Hello David 👋🙂
    New "subber" here.
    I'm a Brit teaching/living in Japan. I mainly use OUP publications.
    Headway and English File. Previous and most recent editions.
    Using the current editions with all of the online practice and online teacher's resources is fabulous. No more having to buy the expensive class CDs! 😅
    Also use the Cambridge Grammar in Use series. I use them more for extra support on specific points rather than as standalone books to follow. All good stuff.
    Very interested to have a gander at those vocabulary titles you suggest.
    I have a lady student who's actually a high school English teacher herself and she'd like some material covering more challenging vocab within interesting articles.
    As you say, the ol' text books (and teacher's books) are b***dy pricey. Spent a fortune on them 😢😅
    Best wishes from over here.
    Liked and subbed.
    Jerry 😁👍
