I got the SAME universal replacement cord at Home Depot tonight too! Lowe's was out. My mower is a Briggs and Stratton so another video helped me with the mower part. BUT, Thanks to your video, I learned how the metal piece in the handle went!! THANKS so much for taking the time to post this!
Thanks for your video. Just what I needed. After 21 years and 1 spark plug and a few oil changes, my mower had its first part failure. My pull cord broke, Your mower was the same Honda Harmony 215 as mine so everything you said hit home for me. I got my part a Lowe's and it was $4.25. It now starts just like it did when it was new. I hope it's another 21 years before the next part failure. By the way, I didn't use the new handle. My old handle was just fine. I was thinking about using 7 strand para cord but I dismissed that thought after seeing your video. Thanks again.
Great video
My husband never would fix it for me. So I did it yesterday!!! You made it so simple. Thank you so much. It probably would’ve only taken me 10 minutes to do it; but the dog kept stealing my tools. Which ended up taking me about 25 minutes to do it maybe 30 minutes. I had to send my husband a video of our finished project that he wouldn’t do last summer
2023 and you helped us get it done. Much obliged
Very well spoken instructions, I appreciate your post.
Thank you for this lesson. Now I can fix the mower.
This video helped me replaced my Honda lawn mover pull cord with no issue. Thanks a lot!
Thanks, clear and precise. A lot of good tips here.
Great information thanks for posting this video
Thank you so much for well instructed, guide.
This helped me understand that I can skip Home Depot and put a new cord onto the existing handle and recoil - thanks!
Good job! Now I’m going to go tackle our lawn mower!
Good job l like your video 💪💪💪💪💪💪
Good job
I know this is years after you posted, but I just found this, and THANK YOU!
Your instructions were PERFECT ♥
Going to check out your other channels :-)
Thanks!!
This one (which is the kind I have) was hard to find the video on UA-cam. Almost all of them have the mechanism inside the cover but this motor has it attached to the motor. I could not find this video searching from UA-cam but it was on top doing a search from Google
Ty for posting this my lawn mower is now fixed !!!
+Gigi Collins Thanks!
+Do It Yourself Bri sir ty for sharing would u by any chance know how to get it to wond back up
Thanks, you saved me $120 !
Thanks buddy!!
Thanks so much solved my problem.
So I'm back to where I've let the cord rewind into the housing (using universal replacement cord from Lowes) but there is now no length left to the cord outside of the housing. I've got a vice grip on the end of it so it all doesn't get sucked in. I also have an old Honda Harmony 215. What might be up with that? It appears from your video that when you let the cord back in it stopped with ample cord left outside so I don't get what's going on here....
how do you make your lawn mower make stripes in the yard
Ok, Bri....
I ran into a BIG problem!
My top is affixed with Rivets!
So?
Do you have any answers?
Thank you for reading!
Hi i carnt find a vidio on how to change the cord on a mountfield rv40 is this the same
great video ty for sharing.. i have one more issue. the cord doesn't want to wond back up.. what did i do wrong?
Yeah I'm not sure... I would maybe start over? Did you wind the assembly all the way out before you started the new cord. In my video at 2min 11sec it shows pulling the cord all the way out and holding the assembly with vice grips keeping the assembly in the correct spot...If you did that I would think there may be something broken inside the pull cord assembly.

ok.. i thought i did but I can try it.. ty again
I don't know if you figured it out but I wanted to post this for anyone else that watches this video. I had the same problem and the answer for me was that the recoil had just unwound. So after I took the old pull string out, I wound up the recoil by the plastic fan, then put a c-clamp on it, and then fed the new starter rope in. Then you can release it slowly to wind it into the pulley. All the other steps were the same. Just had to wind it up before putting the new string in.
You know what I have that same mower with the same problem. It took about 20 min. to figure out how the spring rewind works. I got it for free because he didn't want or know to replace the pull cord. Really I thought he pulled it out to far and broke the spring, but it was just the pull cord
can u please tell me what you did cause im having that same issue?
I used para cord from Lowe's
