Perfect video for my needs. Cord snapped right next to the knot this morning (July 2024) and was able to reconnect using the same cord in about 5mins. Cheers.
Just wanted to say a massive thank you. I bought this exact Mountfield RS100 Pile of **** about six years ago. Knowing nothing about mowers I bought it purely on the strength that my grandad had a Mountfield back when they were built like tanks, this model more 'tat' than tank but despite numerous issues with it, your videos have managed to keep it functioning.
I replaced my pullcord on a Mountfield HP454 with a RM45 engine in May 2020 with great ease after watching this video many thanks for making it so easy, I didn't have a g-clamp handy so just used a screwdriver to keep it in the locked position.
Great video, nice and simple. One thing I did that seemed a bit easier than the clamp though. Put a screw driver through the grating to stop the thing spinning back
i have a mountfield sp454 i have had to rewind the spring but the recoil pawl is different to any of your videos it has 2 metal pins that go into a sliding rail but im not sure where on the slider they go should the screw be left loose or free to move if i leave it loose it comes undone and if i tighten it the recoil wont work do you have a video that explains this ?
Mower Man sorry to trouble you I went ahead to replace the cord. But the round fly wheel appears to just turn with no resistance. Mountfield rs 100 I have a video clip showing it. Is it ready for the bin ? Thanks Steve Lane
Over the years, I've somewhat dreaded experiencing a broken pull cord on my mower, but no longer do after watching your excellent video. Can you tell me if the procedure would be the same for my Sovereign XS40A hand push mower?
show us how to fix it by taking the spring off, my pull cord snapped with loads of cord round the cylinder, so i have to take that nut off and get it to be under tension again, so i need to replace my pull cord but this video can't help me. it's great what you're doing but thats 8 minutes i watched just to be told to buy a new part

Thank you for a very useful and informative video.
Great video. I could do that in say several days. I do not like putting the springs back in those things. Thanks for helping.
D Butler No problem I don't mess with the springs at all now
My rope snapped, the recoil isn't really working. Should I wind it up to get tension, hold it in place and then change the rope?
Yes

Yes it would be the same
@@themowerman Thanks!
Do you know how to remove the engine bolts? Also the both that is at the top of the recoil housing how do you remove that?
I have mowers that need part but most places don’t sell parts for them anymore. What sit do you use to get your parts from.
mostly ebay nowadays

Hi mate, the problem I'm having is the cord is not retracting?
Have the same problem, i messed with that middle bolt and I may have broken something important
Having a similar issue with my hp470. ...The pull chord resists as I pull to start the engine
Yes just give the pull cord assembly a couple of turns and it should do the trick

for anyone wondering how 'tight' to tighten the cassette - just keep going until it won't wind anti clockwise anymore
