I'm older woman, never fixed motors of any kind. My lawnmower quit starting so I followed your very thorough, clear instructions on this video. It started on second pull and has run well ever since. THANK YOU!!!
wow... i run a lawn care business and i chit chat with the guys at the shop and they have told me about all the complicated stuff i dont understand... buck you just saved me thousands of dollars thanks brother!!!
I had never taken apart a lawnmower's workings before. It's a Poulan 500e mower. After watching this, I dove in, and after finishing, the mower started on one pull. I was so jazzed. I yelled, "I have made fire!!!"
Sometimes the auto choke keeps the mower from starting. I have one I have to put a screwdriver to keep the choke open then sprayed starting fluid inside . Pull the start rope the engine revs up fast and then the gasoline starts flowing and the engine runs. My brig's lawn boy. I also disabled the hold down bar so I can just pull start and start mowing I let the gasoline run out to stop the mower. It's best not to leave gasoline in the carb. Also do not use ethanol gasoline buy pure Gasoline. 73
Watched this video twice and not mechanically smart at all. Followed your steps and guess what? MY LAWN MOWER IS NOW WORKING AGAIN!!! I have had it for 18 years and thought it was time to trash it and buy another one! I was SO SCARED of doing something wrong during the repair because I'm not good with fixing things but your video made me believe I could fix it and I DID!!! You saved me $ from buying a new mower too!! THANKS SO MUCH AND GOD BLESS YOU for this GREAT video!!!
This is by far the best diy video on lawn mower repair. You didn't add nonsense filler intros or crazy music. I really liked your hands-on and narrated approach and I am happy to subscribe and give you a thumbs up my friend.
I followed your instructions step by step and I finally have my lawnmower working like it is brand new!!! You saved me money by taking my time instead of sending it for repairs. thank you!👍
Priceless. Fixed mine in 15 min. Even changed the air filter (used an aquarium filter cut to size, no spare parts around me). Pulled the bowl (dripping fuel, but so be it), cleaned it out, cleaned out the nut holes, re installed it all and bam! First shot. Thank you. Saved me hours and $$$ dragging it somewhere....
I got about 10 lawn mowers it is running good and all of a sudden just quit Becky run out of gas and you just showed me what's wrong thank you very much,God bless
Thanks Buck! I didn’t even have to take the carburator apart and it worked after 5 years sitting outside! I own a different lawnmower and by just removing the air filter I have direct access to the “bowl” and I shot the cleaner through all the orifices. That small no traction lawnmower was my jogging buddy I used to mow 20,000 feet with it on the regular. It saw a loooot of grass and we are finally reunited thanks to you, your tips worked beautifully!
Thank you Mr. Buck your solution to why my lawn mower ( a B/S model 90000 140cc) kept cutting off was absolutely correct. It's a very new lawn mower but sat a couple of years with a little gas in it. I looked at the other UA-cam channels until I came across yours. I tried all of those suggestions except take off the carburetor. I was able to locate the fuel injector and put a fine pin into the hole, and then put it back together. And to my amazement, it started right up and stayed on. You're the best.

This literally just happened to me cutting my grass, my Toro mower was starting up 10:48 and then stalling out, I knew that it was something with the carburetor jet I sprayed it but I totally forgot that there was a small hole on the side. So I’m off to buy the carburetor cleaner and more starting fluid. Thank you so much for showing me that, I really do appreciate your video it was awesome! 💪💪
Great video, looks like an easy fix. I've had good luck by spraying carb cleaner, into the fuel line and then using a bike pump to get the cleaner into the carb.
I was given a Craftsman/ Briggs and Stratton gas lawn mower that looks like it's never been used, it is less than ten years old. I'm sure this video will help me when I try to get it running!! Thank you very much!!
Thank you Buck.. your video makes it seem so easy. My boys bought me another mower instead of trying to clean out the carburetor. I'm going to try cleaning it myself when it gets cooler outside.
Gas stations that have a pump that delivers ethanol free fuel IS where I buy my lawn equipment fuel always. Cars can run on 10 % ethanol. In Lawn equipment however, ethanol likes to gel. Sometimes in a few days.
My old mower died a couple weeks ago and my wife found this exact mower on next door for free. It had same problem as the 1 in video I followed directions and runs perfect now. Thank you for your video!
Thank you! This worked out so well. Thank you for your detailed explanation. I couldn’t figure out the issue. Changed air filter, new spark plugs and even check if the carb was loose, nothing worked. I then cleaned out the fuel bowl, it fired right up and ran with no issues. Worked great, felt great doing it myself. Thank you giving the confidence to try it myself!
Buck - thanks for this. My 16 year old craftsman mower wouldn't start for the first time and it was definitely the carb. gunk. After watching this video, definitely more comfortable with messing with the guts of the mower, thank you!
I have to come back here and give you your props Buck! 1st of all I want to thank God for you, and leading me to your page, for you saved me about 400$ for I was going to buy a new mower, and sit my 2005 Husqvarna mower to the curb... these clear instructions were exactly what I needed to fix my mower to the T... my mower started and ran great like it did when I first bought it... Thank you for allowing God to use you to help us out here, may The Lord bless you and yours richly for sharing your wisdom... Amen!!!🙏🏿👍🏿😊
Nice informative video for those who are just learning. I'm sure it will save someone money when they see how easy and quick a mower can be fixed. And you're right. 99% of the time it is just that easy to fix one.
I think it just saved me some money! I have a similar Craftsman mower with the same carburetor setup. It would start after many pulls, but it ran rough. I cleaned the carburetor as per instructions in this video. It started on the first pull after the procedure. My bowl had no debris and the fuel screw was not clogged.
Wow you're right! My mower is doing exactly what his was and it sat all winter. However I have an exmark commercial 30. I don't know the first thing about mowers. Where is my carburetor? I was literally going to bring mines to the shop tomorrow. After watching this im hesitant

A small engine repair guy taught me this years ago. It does work 99% of the time. I use a tiny wire to clean the jet. The other thing you should do is run your mower dry at the end of mowing season, or anytime the mower will be storage for a while.
I've got a Honda GCV160 and when I remove the bolt from the underside of the bowl I still can't remove it. It's not that it's stuck, it just looks like it's not designed to come off. D'you have any advice? I'm asking you as I can see your comment is quite new!

Hello, I too, was about to give up after a full tune up. Watched your video and fixed our 20+ year old Toro mower and it runs great. Thank you for taking the time to share this!!
Your awesome. I have the same mower. I tore it down today cleaned it up. Removed any rust. Cleaned the carb and the bowl, the jets in the carb. Replaced fuel lines painted the metal where the free solution took the paint off. On my carb the choke lever was broken so I glassed the piece back on and shaped it. Still has the same symptoms you just fixed. You learned me I'm going go drop the bowl again now . Ty

What else can I say? Thumbs up! I will certainly give this method a try, considering that my Toyota push mower has the same issues that your mower showed in this video. My mower is a Toyota HRA214 (circa 1984). This mower has been in the family since it was new. It is in relatively good shape, though I sent the carburetor out for a rebuild about 3 years ago. The mower ran great after the carburetor rebuild, but the next season it wouldn't start. It is my backup mower, but I would like to get it running again. Thank you! My Toro wouldn't start for my first mow of the season. It had started the first or second pull the last 8 years. Tried a few of the normal things and then some but once I did what your video shows it started on the first pull! Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Thank you so much. I am a female and just tried to get my mower running after about 4 years of non use. I had already changed the air filter and the oil and this in itself was quite something for me to attempt because I know computers, not small engines. I was getting ready to do what you showed here because your instructions were so clear. I ended up being able to use a particular product (not sure if it will let me mention that here but the brand name starts with an S and the product itself has FF as the initials). But thanks for this video. I would have stopped and hired someone at this point but because I was prepared to take that carburetor out and do what you showed here, you saved me a ton of money. I stood in front of my garage with it running grinning from ear to ear.
Nice video, Thanks for putting it out. I believe that you have helped a great many people that probably don't have the money to have their mower worked on or to just go buy a new one. Good luck with your channel.
Great video, only wish I had found it sooner, could have saved myself a couple of blisters, the nut was blocked on mine, like a different lawnmower now.
Gas power over batteries any day! I worked on small engines most of my life and brings joy to my heart when a mower, blower or whacker kicks back to life! Enjoyed your videos!
I have an old lawnmower that looks like this one, Tecumseh/Champion 20 inch. Probably 30+years old, have had it second hand for 20 years, typical backyard use. This year it turns over for a few seconds with starting fluid and died. I know nothing about small engines but after a few videos here I saw that the float bowl was accessible and had the brass bowl nut accessible like the one here. So, unscrewed it, cleaned out the crud in the float bowl, and poked through the tiny holes in the float bolt with a fine wire and blew it out, washed it in gasoline. Put it back together, and now it purrs like a kitten. I noted that the gasoline (some from last year) was a strange yellow colour (unlike the fresh gasoline - pale yellow) and it had yellow flakes of something floating in it. So best to use up gas at the end of the season and replace. Thumbs up to Bucks!
Hello I wanted to say thank you. My friend's Craftsmen mower would not start. I had replaced the spark plug. I followed your direction and cleaned out the main jet and the mower started with no problems. Thank you so much.
carb cleaner and a needle through that main fuel jet bolt and cleaning the float/bowl did it on my 6.75 craftsman. stored in a hot storage building at my moms with ethanol in it coated everything in dried molasses and completely clogged that jet. even the gas cap rotted and crumbled off of it (replaced). fired and ran consistent on the first try after that. no more corn gas for small engines. next project is a gas powered line trimmer. thanks for the video.
Do the backflip, btw thank you. Got 2 stratons for 30 bucks, wanted to get them running and use one as a personal mower and turn the other into a go-kart cause it's 6.5hp other one is 6.25. this is dang the best video I found so thank you for the content I'm subscribing u fr making my small motor dreams come true

Gas power over batteries any day! I worked on small engines most of my life and brings joy to my heart when a mower, blower or whacker kicks back to life! Enjoyed your videos!
Thank you.
Yes, the Tecumseh engines, like the Briggs, use the bowl nut as the main jet. Great job fixing it yourself!
Good video mate .. I use a micro drill bit on the jets .. that does a good job too.. ta for the video mate
Thanks, Mick! I find those micro bits helpful on Honda engines. Thanks for watching the video!
Genius, so simple, THANK YOU!
Thank you,sir very helpful for us backyard mechanics
Great video , thank you so much guy . Very informative.
Very cool. Thanks for sharing. My cat here was amazed!
This guy is spot on. Thanks for the video
Thanks for the kind words!
Hello I wanted to say thank you. My friend's Craftsmen mower would not start. I had replaced the spark plug. I followed your direction and cleaned out the main jet and the mower started with no problems. Thank you so much.
Great job doing it yourself!
Thanks Buck! Great video! I'm on the job!
I am shocked at how easy this was. I actually just needed to adjust the needle a few turns, but I wouldn't have done it without watching this video
Most of my yard equipment comes from the "curb" and I greatly enjoyed my equipment to this day!
carb cleaner and a needle through that main fuel jet bolt and cleaning the float/bowl did it on my 6.75 craftsman. stored in a hot storage building at my moms with ethanol in it coated everything in dried molasses and completely clogged that jet. even the gas cap rotted and crumbled off of it (replaced).
fired and ran consistent on the first try after that.
no more corn gas for small engines. next project is a gas powered line trimmer. thanks for the video.
Work like a charm. Thanks buck.
Thank God for UA-cam
This video helped me 100 percent 😊😊😊😊
Do the backflip, btw thank you. Got 2 stratons for 30 bucks, wanted to get them running and use one as a personal mower and turn the other into a go-kart cause it's 6.5hp other one is 6.25. this is dang the best video I found so thank you for the content I'm subscribing u fr making my small motor dreams come true
Nice I was looking for a new mower, but I think I'll go try this first thank you so much !
Did you have a replacement for the worn out gasket? What is that part? Are they sold loose or what kind of replacement would I be looking for?
Helpful but I'd suggest getting a welder tip cleaning set, the different sizes make cleaning the jets and orifices easier without damaging them!!
I tried it and it worked saved me. Thank you
Thanks! Follow your video and it work fixing my lawn that won't start..thumb up liked. Thank you!
Great job fixing it yourself!
