What a discovery! As a former professional dancer/performer/teacher/choreographer for 60 years, the wear and tear on the muscle/joint structure is huge. All the dance genre (ballet/modrn/jazz/tap) have taken their toll even though my entire body spent most of my 90 years in amazingly good shape. Yes..90 ! Just within the last year or so, my one hip has succumbed to arthritis and bone reduction. AND PAIN! Your video seemed to be speaking just to me and my current pain problem. One thing of interest is that due to the constant physical work, my glutes have always been hard as a rock and supportive. Only recently, the pain factor has caused a change of use and balance so as to allow the glutes to recede and become non-functional.. Your description seemed to be speaking just to me. I will not do the hip replacement at this age and all of your comments resonated with me, big time! I sit (at my computer) way too many hours a day and your suggestions about the 'sleeping position/pillow', muscle massage, glute-tightening all make sense. Thank you thank you. I expect to improve soon, as I will begin your simple. logical focus immediately. Your clear and direct approach is like a light bulb going off in my head. Where's my water bottle?

Hey Sylvia, I was so excited to read that we both have a few things in common. Sorry that its not only the dance, performing, teaching, choreographing but also the clear evidence of our hip beginning to break down and talk to us that we share in common. You were/are such a fabulous dancer/singer/performer and I recall seeing you with Mary/Dick Show and much more. I'm sure you've had a grand life and all that dance pounding did impact your body but I hope you too feel so fortunate to have had such thrilling, full years through dance and wouldn't have changed it. You do have some years on me but its just numbers and I just wanted to say hello. I too felt Dr. David gave the clearest, most logical, understandable instruction and I hope you will get as much relief as I have already. All the best to you Sylvia! Clara/CB

Regular price about 28$. I have been pre-authorized for jelly fish gel injections in hips. But because I compression fractured my L-1, the injections have been delayed. 5 years ago I was told I needed a hip replacement. The head of the femur looked like a mountain range and there was zero cartilage on both sides. It got so bad I could hardly walk. I was 47...
I went plant based, after an immediate decrease in inflammation from eliminating all processed foods and sugar, my hip got progressively worse. After 2 years I went keto and then carnivore combined with intermittent fasting. Huge improvement immediately. I combined this with traction exercises to get fluid to the joint and trigger point therapy to soften the associated soft tissue pain as my body protected the joint. Again, that worked to a point and I had definite improvements. But the game changer, 4 months ago I bought a rife machine. Within a few weeks I had rotation without grinding, within a few months the rotation improved and the pain decreased. I currently walk 5 to 10km a day with my dogs and am almost pain free. The body CAN self heal, don't let your drug pusher tell you otherwise.

@@danmcarthur8077 Several reasons. There are major complications from all surgeries, including death. I am one of those people who react very poorly to general anaesthetic, so really don't need the risk. I am a pureblood and therefore 100% do not want contaminated blood. Replacements have a finite life, around 15 to 20 years, so I am guaranteeing I will need further surgery in the future and there is no guarantee the government will pay for it, even if it's available. And finally, why on earth would I want something artificial (and potentially toxic) in my body when I can heal naturally?!!!

I want a hip replacement because mine hurts 100% around the clock but I’ve got lymphedema and the doctor won’t do the replacement surgery as long as I I have the swelling and inflammation in my legs. I don’t know if you know anything about lymphedema, but it is hell to cure so I could be indefinitely fighting lymphedema as a condition of surgery so I’m interested in saying I’m going to try the physical therapy. I’ve had great luck with physical therapy on other body parts. I would much rather take a couple of pills to make the pain go away, but I’ve not found anything that works that doesn’t make you high as a kite or sick. I don’t mind getting a little high, but I don’t wanna depend on it and I know that’s the result if you stay on those pain medications for long, plus I don’t like being out of control of my faculties like you get on too much codeine. God did this for a reason, he obviously does not want us to be pain-free. He could furnish something that would be totally safe and make the pain go away, but that’s not the way it’s intended to be. He wants physical therapists, orthopedic surgeons, cane makers and other cottage industries, propped up by the economy of arthritis. Arthritis sux big time. I went from a very athletic guy doing whatever I wanted to do, golfing, fishing, running, hiking, traveling, until I was 66-67 when edema showed up in one leg then the other, developing into lymphedema and a serious health concern. My legs hurt , and a bump or scrape opened a wound that is damn near impossible to heal because the legs and feet are so swollen with lymphatic fluid that the red blood cells can’t get into the veins to fight the infection so it just takes a long time for anything to heal with the edema . was in hyper-denial. I knew in my gut that my awesome way of physical life was about to change for the worse for the balance of my life. Not a happy thought. My gait changed to accommodate my edema pains. That limp, along with OA diagnosed 10 yrs ago, pushed my shit over the edge into a fully blown bone to bone situation. I’m 69 right now and I’ll be in my 70s before I’ll be able to get a new hip. I’m going to physical therapy to see if it helps me cope. Good luck everyone out there with osteoarthritis.

Thank you so much. I really appreciate this and other of your videos I have been checking out this morning. My hip is so far gone that I have to have hip replacement surgery. My rheumatologist (I have rheumatoid arthritis) has always said I can’t have joint replacement surgery because it simply won’t work for me. However he now says I absolutely have to have hip joint replacement. The senior radiologist (family connection) who managed my work up said that my hip is as bad as it gets and that my pain level would be a 9/10. He was right. However in the past 12 months I have had 12 UTIs so have not been able to even see surgeon. Turns out I have bladder diverticulitis. Who knew such a thing existed??? However I am now seeing a top hip surgeon on 12 March. In the meantime, I am working hard to give myself the best rehab possible. I have a good physiotherapist (or at least I believe so), but I am now following all of your advice. I am 76 and can only have Panadol for pain, having had horrible side effects from a pain patch. I therefore have to manage pain and sleep primarily through exercise and relaxation techniques. I am just so grateful I found you on U-Tube. I am highly exercise motivated and I just love your exercises and tips. Absolutely no trouble to implement these continually throughout the day. I have also just sent away for a massage gun. One day I will provide feedback on my successful post-operation rehab, but it could be a long way off. Meanwhile, I wish you all the very best. This seems the only way I can offer a heartfelt gratitude practice.

I have "severe" osteoarthritis in my left hip & L4-L5 (low back). Officially diagnosed in 2020 but had pain & stiffness starting around mid 2018. I was told I had to have a hip replacement but currently that is not possible as I do not have insurance. (long story) I came upon this channel just a few days ago & I have been exploring the Hip Pain topics. I can't believe I am getting better advice & information from a PT on UA-cam than what I've gotten in the last 6 years from my actual medical providers. Mind blown!🤯 Providing me with the details as why I should or should not do something is very valuable to me. I am 63 & feel 83 & even though my pain ranges from a 7-12 around the clock, I am not on any narcotics. I manage my pain with anti-inflammatories, heat, ice & joint supplements. I stay home 98% of the time due to my pain & physical limitations. I have to use a wheelchair 👩‍🦽when I leave the house as walking just kills me. If I try an outing with my family my pain & stiffness is off the wall & then spend several recouping. 🛌
So... I am going to try some of the suggestions on this channel and see if I can get better pain relief. Wish me luck! 🍀

I think you're correct. Recommending surgery for a 40-year-old sounds very premature. I have a friend who had surgery on both hips in her 40s. She will probably need another one before the end of her life - they usually last about 20 years - which will put her in her 60s. So, I hope she can last that long since I don't think they can do a third one. I would do exercises, massage, just about anything before I would consent to surgery. Western medicine is way too focused on surgery and medication.

If you are watching don't skip through it. I just mentioned the 20 min mark as it really impressed me. Also if you have to sit all day in front of a computer get a standing desk with a stool and be able to obsess and do the exercises and keep moving. Thanks for the video!

I’ve been doing a lot of these things just by self-discovery. You have to be very self aware. When I get into certain positions, I can feel more spacing in my hip joints. Pointing my toes and knees outward provides much relief. Squeezing the glutes give me instant relief as well. I do leg extensions to actually strengthen my quads then massage as well with my gun. Monster walks strengthen my outer part of my legs too and help ease the pain. Putting ankle weights on my affected leg and letting it dangle off a step while bearing all my weight on the other leg helps too. Great video, as all these things should be beneficial. I was in excruciating pain a few months ago and after sticking with these exercises and altering my diet some, I have definitely minimized my pain. I used to cramp and seize up at night to where I couldn’t sleep but an hour or two. Now, I can rest with minimal pain. I do feel symptoms come back at the end of my work day which indicates I still have some stamina work on which should help me get through the entire day but I can tell I’m on the right track.

I played baseball for 25 years then went into teaching it (for 21 years now) so all the hip rotation I’ve done over the years has led up to my issues. Hopefully, by sticking with these methods daily I will continue to improve and be able to keep going!

This is so so true! I also found you have to become your own self healer and get involved with your own healing. Get to be aware. Try things, be analytical, learn about the muscles, watch UA-cam and find wonderful advice and physios like this one! I used to put all my healing in the hands of others whose job I thought it was but we also have a responsibility to look after ourselves. And no one can “feel” for us. For anyone out there going through this like me, don’t delay anymore to pay attention to your body and be involved.

Great information! It is amazing to me how some people shun added sugar in foods, but will still eat tons of fruit. Because it's "natural" sugar. Once broken down, the body doesn't know the difference between sugar from an apple or a slice of bread or a container of yogurt or a banana or a Snicker's bar. Fructose is still fructose and glucose is still glucose, and it's all 100% inflammatory. . People will defend their drug of choice until the end.

You come across as a genuine caring person . I'm doing the 4 exercises you recommend on another video but on the last one i(on all fours) f I try to point my butt to one side or another it will go one side but too painful to go the side they wanted to replace.Should I avoid it ? I also started Qigong which really helps too. Thank you so much for these videos. I rarely have days when my hip aches a little but it does not last especially if I use the gun. Turmeric Root with black pepper powder to enhance the effectiveness of the Turmeric and drinking ginger tea is a God sent. I stumbled across your videos last night and soooo glad I did! I'm 60yrs young and was diagnosed with bone on bone hip arthritis in late 2020 (the consultant said edge loading on the right hip?). For the past 18months I have been trying to stay active, doing stretching and strengthening as per the p/t advised. He said that my hip was quite strong and to go away and do what I've been doing and said he wouldn't need to see me again. This video has educated me about massaging your quads as recently I have noticed more of a pinching in my groin which shoots down to my knee. I'm hoping that its just tight or shortened muscles? I shall e watching all your videos about bone on bone as there is some light at the end of the tunnel and the operating table hopefully seems a long way off yet! Thank you for you very informative and helpful videos.

I’m not a doctor and this is an older video, but my hip pain is now.
About hydrating- I’ve heard from good, trustworthy doctors that a bit of Celtic salt before a glass of water helps keep water in your body rather than just running through. Just a small bit crunched with your teeth prior to each glass. I think it helps. No swollen feet and not going to the bathroom as often. Celtic salt also has minerals and is not bleached and processed like table salt such as Morton’s.
Just a suggestion. Again, I’m not a doctor.
Now, back to the exercises. Thanks for this post!

I totally appreciate your video explaining the possibilities on the causes of hip pain and the way to avoid hip replacement. I got shot years ago and have been dealing with the ramifications of the injuries sustained to my spine. As of lately I have been suffering horrific pain around my right hip when I stand. I subscribed and hope to get help with my hip problem.

I am so glad I saw this video. I am definitely going to try all the suggested actions to be taken. Just one question, a physiotherapist told me to sleep with straight legs instead of folded up like you have shown as it apparently effects the major muscles in the butt area. Which method would be the better one? I have also found that my affected leg thigh muscles are very stiff. I am currently doing a little bit of exercises to strengthen the muscles around the hip. What exercises do you recommend if any? If there are any exercises that can be done to strengthen the hip muscles, won't you please make a video to demonstrate them. Thanks for the video. Your presentation was great.

    • @epmanualphysicaltherapy
      @epmanualphysicaltherapy  2 роки тому +2

Hey Frank! The best advice is to get comfortable when you sleep. That usually means your hips and knees will be slightly bent. The position you rest in is less likely to affect your joints that the way you strengthen your muscles by using them in your everyday motions. In other words, you're doing more to harm your hips if you're using the wrong muscles while your awake than you are while resting at night. Does that make sense?

I enjoyed the 2 days I went for a 45 minute relaxing walk.
Preparing for a trial tens unit placement as opposed to the alternative 3 cages and 6 screws that would be required if the pain isn’t better controlled. L3,4,5
MRI and 4 injections for pain, chiropractic completed.
After the walks I spent the next 48 hours In much increased pain from my foot to my hip, left side.
So walking is off the table.
Supplements, keto diet and water in.
About 4 hours sleep is all I average,
    Really hope the stimulator works
    Great information

I was rushed into a joint replacement over 16 years ago. The result was disaster. Now I'm scheduled for a replacement of the replacement. For the first opration, the spinal anaesthetic was injected by a careless doctor into the arachnoid, not the sub arachnoid space. I have suffered intense pain 24/7 ever since. I was temporarily paralysed but I dealt with that by first manipulating my toes, then my ankles and up my legs. I did consult the quacks. I did it alone. I am sure the next operation will kill me but nobody takes me seriously.

Hi. Thank you for this video. I knew that I would need hip replacement 31 years ago. They said I was too young at the times. Now I’m going to be 69 in October. I was told a few years ago that I need open heart surgery for two bad valves. The hip didn’t start hurting again till about 8 months ago, and of course, they won’t do replacement till after the heart surgery. My brother just died from heart disease. I’m in no hurry for either. I do hear a popping in my hip, and I use a cane, out a walker for longer distances, so that I don’t have to put weight on That leg/hip. I would like to try these exercises. I even would like to talk to my doctor about physical therapy. Thanks again.

I've had a hip replacement last June and I've had so much pain since... the pain is worse now then before I had the procedure. Sometimes when sitting it can feel like the pain works its way around and up to my lower back (on the side I had the replacement). Any ideas how to help with this pain? I'm in the UK. All my consultant has suggested is that he will refer me to the pain team at the hospital... It's like they're not interested at all now.

I’m sooo glad I stumbled on this video. Do you have any recommendations to improve range-of-motion or will dedication to this therapy help along with reducing pain? It’s a challenge to put my right sock and shoe on and exhausting to trim my toe nails. I fear soon I’ll need a petty out of necessity.
