Neil's body of work is nothing short of MASSIVE. From "Buffalo Springfield", "Crosby, Stills Nash & Young", "Crazy Horse" and solo career few other artist can match his musical production. You MUST HEAR from C.S.N&Y - "Ohio"... this one is good - OHIO CSNY - Kent State Massacre Montage
Known for the unique tones of his voice and distinctive guitar style and deeply personal lyrics.... Neil Percival Young (born November 12, 1945) is a Canadian and American singer and songwriter. After embarking on a music career in Winnipeg in the 1960s, Young moved to Los Angeles, joining the folk-rock group Buffalo Springfield. Since the beginning of his solo career, often with backing by the band Crazy Horse, he has released critically acclaimed albums such as Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere (1969), After the Gold Rush (1970), Harvest (1972), On the Beach (1974), and Rust Never Sleeps (1979). He was also a part-time member of Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, with whom he recorded the chart-topping 1970 album Déjà Vu.
Great song, Big Soul JMBOY. You'd also like CORTEZ THE KILLER, COWGIRL IN THE SAND, DOWN BY THE RIVER, AND CINNAMON GIRL Neil has a vast catalog of fantastic music.
that wild sound you heard on the guitar are pinch harmonics on the strings, he did a great job of making those high pitched squeal type sound for this song. It was like he was getting strangled by the hurricane force of this woman's energy. Great musical impressionism!
Young's range runs deep and far in all musical directions; here, he makes distortion (sonic and emotional) beautiful. "Comes a Time" is positive and bright, "Powderfinger" is dark and mortal, "Hanging On a Limb" is pretty, and "Rockin' in the Free World" is enraged... just pick some Neil and play it!
Out of the 120+ Neil Young songs that I love, this may be my favorite. He utilizes feedback and distortion here on this recording. Released in 1977, years before grunge was a genre.
AND HE WAS A VERYYYYY VERY UNIQUE GUITAR PLAYER WITH THE KINDS OF CHORDS HE PLAYED IN😊, JUST A MUSICAL GENIUS ALL IN ALL, MULTI INSTRUMENTS, WRITING, SINGING, PLAYING, YEAH JUST INCREDIBLE STUFF FOR SURE!👍😊
I had this on cassette back in the 70s. There is a part of it where the distortion is so great that I always thought my cassette deck was eating my tape. Beautiful.
Great song! I saw Niel Young in concert with Crazy Horse. Opening was the great Patti Smith. Old Man, Heart of Gold and Harvest Moon are also great songs of his.
Young burns the house down with the live versions of "Like a Hurricane" that he's released over the decades. When you ready for more from him, albeit considerably toned down from this, check out the studio recording of "Heart of Gold" and see if you can catch Linda Ronstadt and James Taylor providing the backing vocals.
I can remember buying this album, American Stars and Bars, when it was released in 1977. Back in the day when record stores were big and there were many. Of course us Neil Young and Crazy Horse fans were blown away by Hurricane. Billy's Talbot's four-note bass line and Neil's searing lead throughout are highlights of this song. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
"Like A Hurricane" - Neil Young Once I thought I saw you in a crowded hazy bar Dancing on the light from star to star Far across the moonbeam I know that's who you are I saw your brown eyes turning once to fire You are like a hurricane There's calm in your eye And I'm gettin' blown away To somewhere safer where the feeling stays I want to love you but I'm getting blown away I am just a dreamer but you are just a dream And you could have been anyone to me Before that moment you touched my lips That perfect feeling when time just slips Away between us on our foggy trip You are like a hurricane There's calm in your eye And I'm gettin' blown away To somewhere safer where the feeling stays I want to love you but I'm getting blown away Blown away You are just a dreamer and I am just a dream You could have been anyone to me Before that moment you touched my lips That perfect feeling when time just slips Away between us on our foggy trip You are like a hurricane There's calm in your eye And I'm gettin' blown away To somewhere safer where the feeling stays I want to love you but I'm getting blown away
I'd rather listen to Neil's solos on this than ANY technically perfect guitarist. It's the flaws in Neil's playing that makes his sound unique, and it's his imagination that makes his playing so magical.
How does he do that? Throughout the whole song, it feels like the music constantly stumbles over itself but always nails the blind landing and keeps going.
You need to check out a lot more Neil Young, who is The MAN. To really see and hear him at his peak, you should view his concert film "Rust Never Sleeps", he plays Acoustic Guitar, Harmonica, Piano and, oh yeah, Electric Guitar with his main backing band, Crazy Horse. More good stuff from Neil: "Rockin' In The Free World", "This Notes For You", "Ohio" w/ CSN&Y and "Harvest Moon".
Daft Punk ? I felt like throwing a feces at my TV screen when they beat out Bruno Mars for an award at the Grammys . Why ? Neil Young did that same thing with his Album Trans a decade earlier before Punk and did it a whole lot better !
The guitar of Neil Young ? I cross referenced it to Marc Bolan of TRex and John Fogerty but it was on a Marc Bolan thread . I asked if I am reaching but is Marc Bolan an unjustly , underrated Guitarist like Neil Young and John Fogerty . A guy replied “ He definitely has that special thing going on like Young and Fogerty . A little raw and unschooled but what comes out of the speakers when his fingers hit the fretboard is pure magic ! “
Eight minutes of sheer joy. The first and last song I want to hear in my life.
Right on!!
Not as Good as Down By The River or Cowgirl in The Sand
I thought that I was the only one L O L

Some of the greatest guitar solos of all time. Nobody can replicate Neils unique style.

Easily my favorite Neil Young song, glad you enjoyed it.

He played this last week at Pine Knob in Michigan. Great show.

Neil Young's "After the Gold Rush" was the first LP I ever bought

"Like A Hurricane" - Neil Young
Once I thought I saw you in a crowded hazy bar
Dancing on the light from star to star
Far across the moonbeam I know that's who you are
I saw your brown eyes turning once to fire
You are like a hurricane
There's calm in your eye
And I'm gettin' blown away
To somewhere safer where the feeling stays
I want to love you but I'm getting blown away
I am just a dreamer but you are just a dream
And you could have been anyone to me
Before that moment you touched my lips
That perfect feeling when time just slips
Away between us on our foggy trip
You are like a hurricane
There's calm in your eye
And I'm gettin' blown away
To somewhere safer where the feeling stays
I want to love you but I'm getting blown away
Blown away
You are just a dreamer and I am just a dream
You could have been anyone to me
Before that moment you touched my lips
That perfect feeling when time just slips
Away between us on our foggy trip
You are like a hurricane
There's calm in your eye
And I'm gettin' blown away
To somewhere safer where the feeling stays
I want to love you but I'm getting blown away
Yeah stop we know how it goes
Yeah we know the words...what waste repeating them

Absolutely not
He certainly gets his moneys worth out of that guitar
A bit off of the beaten path for most fans but I've always liked Neil's ode to his rock 'n' roll roots, the 'Everybody's Rockin' album from 1983...
Nope wasn't good at all...trash album
Check out "Cortez the Killer."
