📚 Description: Silverburst has to be favorite finish on a Les Paul Custom and I loved it way before I even knew about Adam Jones or that he made this guitar/finish very popular. A brand new Les Paul Custom was my first Gibson guitar back around 2012. I eventually sold it to buy a vintage one - but ended up with a 25/50 Anniversary Les Paul instead.
With the new Adam Jones Gibson Custom Shop Signature Silverburst coming out soon - I wanted to redocument a silver burst finish Les Paul Custom in my new style with B-Roll to help illustrate the differences between an original and that guitar when it does eventually come out!
This was a fun interaction with the original owner and I hope he can remember his guitar fondly with this video and the money gets the things done that needed done.

Was gonna say you should post the video link on your reverb/ebay pages but these sold before you posted the videos up. Should wait before you post it for sale so you can take advantage of the video work to showcase the guitars. seems a waste to do the work then not use it.
I have a silver burst firebird
I have to say man disappointed in your tool playing. Even schism was completely wrong.... Sorry great video and beautiful guitar and I love your channel thanks for giving me a close look at my dream.
@@stephawnicus1990 if he plays it right the video gets demonetized
Can u do a demo and review of a Keith urban acoustic guitar
This was such a cool experience for Harley and I, pleasure meeting you and you did a great job detailing it. Glad it went to great hands! Great job on the video! Thanks for the folks who commented about my Hairy Queen shirt! 🤘🏻😎🤘🏻
Thanks for making this video possible/happen!
You kept good care of it, that must've been hard to part with it. Troglys was a great way to go about it!
🤘 you guys were awesome! 🤘
Should have never sold it period and saved it for a grandchild. I would have sent 20$ to fund your trip if ya proved it was necessary. Sorry you effed up bad but you did that earlier in life as well and at least that guy was cool. Sorry bud you pawned it. You'll regret it soon if not already.
I also feel sorry for your mother for spoling you and you not realizing it as a adult.
Damn, imagine getting a Les Paul Custom for your 10th birthday
Reaver Got mine for Christmas...I was 13 yrs old. 82 LP Custom Silverburst. My Dad worked overtime on weekends in order to pay for it. I’ll never forget the sacrifices he made for me.
@@AndrewCCM that's beautiful man
@@AndrewCCM do you still have it?
This is how Trogly's add huge value to every guitar he documents-doing a great job at it. Great story, great guy the seller. Awesome story!
It is very apparent that he actually wants his customers to be happy instead of just making the sale
And he is also very kind hearted, love to help folks who need the money for a noble cause. Austin is a great dude
No lowballers. Don’t waste his time. He knows what he has.
Ethan Sloss Hahaha, shhh, we’re softening the heart of a good man here🤣
Silverbursts age so uniquely. I'm really not a fan until they're heavily aged, but once they're there... oooohhh momma it's a beaut.
I have two silverbursts Sonex from ‘82 that have that look and we copied it onto my Harley tank!
My 82 LP Custom Silverburst still looks very much silver. Some aging, but not to the degree you see a lot of these. Stayed in case for probably 25 yrs.
@CallMeKalashnikov The lacquer also yellows from UV so the actual clear coat will yellow with age even if the color doesn't.
That's what SHE said "
~~~'"ojo"'~~~
Dude is gonna regret selling his first guitar. That’s a hell of a first guitar.
sometimes a man got to eat
@@skimask5049 sometimes a man has to goto work. He effed up bad
Boz Boz sometimes a man doesn’t think he has to do anything
Yep. The day will come.
Nothing wrong with selling something you don't need anymore. Doesn't matter how cool it is.
Never thought I'd hear Trogly play Tool
He plays Pantera when he demos the spark amp. Weird right
He's played Parabol before.
Played tool in standard.
I love that this is the guitar the sellers' mom bought for her son. My mom bought me an Ovation Magnum bass when I started getting really interested in playing. I took it as a vote of confidence from her-- and it meant the world to me... Until it was stolen years ago. Whenever I see one, I think of that selfless love that the gift of that guitar represented. Maybe someday I'll find another...
You will dude.
Ovation Magnum’s are amazing basses man, really hope you get yours back eventually or get a new one
maybe shoot for an eastwood reissue
Do you have the original information like sales receipt or did you ever write down the serial number if that model has one. Jah Wobble of P.I.L. still plays them and I look at them every now and again. Nothing worse than the parasitic scum that is a thief, a Guitar is very personal so it's a huge violation and retribution is in order and justice should always prevail. I have had a Yamaha SG stolen back in '85-86 out of my apartment. I found out who did it. It was anole friend that got into Heroine, he had his scumbag buddy go in my house. My older brother grabbed his Gat and we got the truth out of him. Then a few years later, His '57 Gibson Les Paul Jr. that was my other brothers was stolen by another Burnout Crackhead Scumbag and I returned the favor and drove my same brother to his house and he said; Wait here and keep the Car running. He broke his arm. That guy was another Douche that I actually went to school with. Stupid F***** actually took it to Guitar Center in Azusa,CA. and got like 150.00 bucks and they took a photo of his Drivers License. So he went to Jail, and got f***** up and a broken arm for a night of Crack. I always like it when someone gets their gear back but so many times we don't. I never did. These are the facts and they are undisputed. Don't steal, and lock your gear up, and get a storage unit. Be careful who you associate with and share your info with. My good friend Dewey had a '63 Firebird and his Half-Brother stole it and pawned it for gambling money ? He never got it back. These stories are unfortunately fairly common. It's kind of sad to see an original owner have to sell his first Guitar from his mother but life throws us curve balls and you can't judge a man for having hard times and being the sole parent of multiple children. A lot of people are having a hell of a time right now with this COVID mess.
Damn Brother...Im sorry but that guitar likes you. I think it wants to be yours. Channeling something there and that feedback is just intense. I think Adam was right in his assumption. Sounded wild bro.
This man deserves so much more subscribers.
I know. I’m always surprised he isn’t huge. Man if Trogly were a better guitar player he’d probably have upwards of a million now.
He's my favorite channel. I learn something new with each episode.
Scott MacPhee its like a Gibson history channel.
He is a pretty big deal!
So his mother bought her him a Les Paul Custom as a kid? Lucky dude
when he was ten years old!
Ernest Schultz welll mu grand mother bought me mu first 1980 custom alpine white when i was 16, not the same but close, that was a 8 years ago so it was already a vintage guitar, love that old woman and still treassure that axe to this day
Back in 1978 LP Customs went for under $700.
thats roughly $2800 dollars in 2020 money.
@@billygoat1708 his receipt said 548 after tax and with a case! Unless that was down payment for financing it
I had a 79 Silverburst that fell out of the back of my truck after a gig. Broke my heart.
WOW! Besides the novelty of this guitar, I swear this is the best sounding Les Paul you've had on your show! At least to me it is, and that may be because I'm 55 now, and that's the tone I heard growing up. FANTASTIC! Great video.
Hell of a first guitar...Bought my first guitar at age 14 in 1977. A cheap $65 strat copy. My guitar teacher had a 70's white Les Paul custom, once he let me play it, I fell in love.
Can’t wait to start my first day at the custom shop next week
How did it go, bud?
I feel for the guy selling it.
He should have kept it. Money and desperate times are a continual problem for most of us, but that guitar was a legit heirloom.
The Loki Files I agree. It’s rare that anyone gets a guitar like that at 10. It’s one thing to sell guitars as we go along in the journey but that isn’t just any guitar. And yeah desperate times we are in and a lot of gear comes onto the market during down times like these but somehow that one shouldn’t be one of those pieces. Could trogly sell it back to him? That would be a good news story.z
@@angelic_slayer I think the guy should get his guitar back. Just ask Trog to take back the money and make it work somehow.
The Loki Files yep. Simple.
@@thelokifiles Looks like it it sold fast on Reverb.
Wow that was a rollercoaster of a ride, what a great guitar loads of sustain, and with the work you put in, it looked good too, well done Austin.
Trogly, this was really an outstanding episode. I know they can't all be this detailed, but this was just a real joy beginning to end. Great work and thank you!
I wonder how close to the originals they will be. The paint was a discontinued GM automobile paint. I’ve talked to the original finishers back in the day at Heritage Guitar in Kalamazoo. Not too sure if it will be the same metallic paint on the new AJ reissues or how close to feel, sound, and manufacturing they will be. Nothing beats the originals.
I think part of the reason GM discontinued that paint was due to EPA Regulations.
Back in 1979 I purchased a brand new White Pearl 25th Anniversary Stratocaster. Within a year the finish turned cream colored.
Fender told me that had switched to new paint in 1978 and 1979 due to stricter EPA regulations and the white pearl finish on my Stratocaster hadn't been fully sorted out yet! 7 years later Fender had me take the guitar to an Authorized Fender Repair Facility in Akron Ohio to have it refinished to factory specs with the new Anniversary Decal plastered across the front top horn of the guitar.
Way to go Fender, standing behind their quality even many years after the fact.
Point being the EPA must have been a huge PITA for Fender and Gibson.
the new ones are original copies . so, yeah, the new ones are original
@@hkguitar1984 i would have kept the original paint, urine idiot
carmine redd you’re the one telling him to take a piss 😂
@@ZaneDalton heh heh heh
Congrats, that’s the coolest guitar I’ve seen you have. With all the history , it’s a keeper!
Fantastic restoration!! So great to see an original silverburst and even better to see the care you took with this guitar. Well done!
One of the best sounding Les Pauls you have demoed that I have seen anyway!
Fun Fact the first ever silver burst made was for Charlie Christian, it was to match the bandstands and drums the Benny Goodman orchestra was using at the time. With even the (upright) bass player having a silver burst. Apparently that version was based in the Gretsch drum finish.
Christian didn't seem to like the finish, as when he left Goodman to form his own group he special ordered a natural finish guitar, and used natural finish guitars for the rest of his life. As for his silver burst it's lost.
Silverburst would show up on Jazz guitars before the 70s, mostly I'd assume custom orders although pre 78 it was often listed as 'Ash Burst' which I believe is what Gretsch call it.
FANTASTIC clean up job. Couldn't believe my eyes!! 70s ALL THE WAY!! Trogly - prior to watching your videos, this was the only Les Paul sound I knew. So, you can see how you opened my eyes on the COMPLETE Les Paul sound. Thank you. This was a great video to see.
Amazing guitar, and even more amazing father for selling it for his daughter’s benefit. Loved watching this.
One of your best videos ever sir! I like it when you can go into that kind of detail on the backstory/history!!!
Wow, I've bought guitars from Apollo Music back in the late 70s too!
Small World, great to hear the story with this guitar. Documenting it will allow it's story to continue.
Guitar like that needs to be played.
Glad to see Trogly doing a vintage review again. I’d love to see him go back to more of these!
Love your show you teach us what to look for and how to inspect a guitar with out being ripped off thanks for the honesty.you the man.BEAUTIFUL GIBSON THATS A KEEPER!!$$$$$
Great back story Austin. You did him and the guitar proud. Looks and sounds fantastic! Keep it.
Austin thanks for setting a good example and for the daily entertainment. I never miss a video!
Nothing but love for the Les Paul Custom
One of your coolest playing demos for sure!! Awesome 😄
Hey Austin, love that cool 'after hours' Hammond organ jazz music playing in the background!
Nice guitar, enjoyed the video. Thanks for sharing it with us. Your channel is always a must see for me!
Im to the point now where i enjoy your playing as much as the rest of the video. keep up the good work.
I wish his daughter the best and thank her for serving our country.
What a beautiful guitar, that has fared pretty well over the years.
What a great story, great mother and great guitar! Also love the left hand pickup changes Trogly, very unique.
This is definitely my favourite video you posted.
Beautiful instrument with a beautiful back story - thanks for sharing!
Loving this one! Very clean but still loads of love and play have been applied over the years. Would be very tempted if I were in the US!
I'm a bassist but that guitar right there is a piece of art. What a great video and story.
This is one of my favorite videos you have done. Tool is my son's favorite band and this is his dream guitar. This is pretty much the perfect used guitar: well loved and played and still cleans up nice. Amazing sounds too.
Great paul!!!! It sounded great, and your playing is really showing the practice!!! Keep it up🤙
That thing is absolutely stunning. Wow
There flies the pinkie ;) VERY NICE GUITAR and very informative as usual.
Loved this episode and that Beautiful guitar, thanks Austin 😁
That's a stunning guitar, sounds incredible too. He took really good care of it considering he got it when he was 10!
Now this is the kind of video I love! Great find Bud.
b roll at the end was super well done man! awesome job!
Man!! That guitar sounds GREAT!! its calling your name to keep it...it just fits you, man!!
That cleaned up beautifully!
I am not a huge fan of silverburst guitars, but that one sounds awesome.
What a beauty of a guitar. Lovely stuff!
WoW Trog...I think you found a new BFF!!! That was the best demo maybe ,,,ever
That's a beautiful example man and has been loved great owners story too
BEAUTIFUL GUITAR!!! Wear and tear makes the guitar. I collect guitars but I play EVERYONE of them. I want one! In that finish too! One of your better guitar demos if I might add. Hammer and let that beast roar!
Man that's beautiful, and congrats dad on your daughter joining the Navy!
“ I KNOW THE PIECES FIT”...Trogly you are too freakin cool !!!!!!!
HAIRY QUEEN!!!
Hell yeah!
Love It!!! ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!!! Iwish I could reach through the screen grab it and bring it back for myself.
Keep this axe man. Its truly special. The story is great and I know you aren't in need to sell. Keep her!
Love the sound of this one
This guitar is a working man's guitar. It's got tons of soul. Dings and battlescars only make it cooler. Trogly, you done good bringing er back.
Brilliant video , very fun to watch
You really polished that up nicely!
Dude! Awesome video
What a guitar, I am very jealous! Enjoyed the tool inspired play demo, that tone was brilliant! I'm gonna have to buy the Adam Jones signature when it comes out now 😁
That Paul is of my dream guitars! I'm born in 78 and a big fan of Adam Jones!
Gotta love the trog man. I'm nt even a Gibson fan but I love troglys channel. There's an art to documenting guitars and trogly has mastered it.
Great playing. Awesome guitar.
Wow. He must really love his daughter. Super cool
Bro i normally dont stay for the demo but got to say you nailed this one..
Like the show and tell with the guitars history. Very cool LP. 👍🇦🇺
Gibson really needs to come up with a finish that looks like that one looks under black light. Without the backlight of course. Killer video. Awesome find. Thanks for sharing with us. Makes me want to go out and buy a silverburst.
Great video! I bought my all original 79 silverburst in 2001.
Nice score
Dang.. your editing skills have improved 100 fold since I subscribed 120k subscriber's ago!
B Roll extravaganza! That's a very nice guitar. VERY DESIRABLE, great history too.
Man that axe is cool. What a great find.
One of the best videos, so great to get the backstory/history of the guitar, thanks to all (the seller's ticket stub from the gig where he played the guitar would have made a nice inclusion also)
yes i did watch 3 minutes of extra guitar spinning with no commentary thank you very much
I'm in love with this one !
Love the sound of those t tops!!
Well Trog...this made me keep mine. Frets are worn to a nub. Still is a bit more silver left. Had it brand new since 82. Hope to be buried with it. Thanks for bringing one bak to life.
Really liked your playing in this episode.
The story of an old guitar is probably the best part of buying one. I love it
you have an interesting way of deciding what should be restored and what shouldn't
My cousin has a 79 silverburst custom he bought new. It's a beautiful guitar. To this day I've yet to play a guitar that has the same vibe to it. It definitely makes a statement in sound and looks.
Sounds great man! The first note was like a rush of early Stones, Greens Fleetwood Mac and Led Zep. If only current day Les Pauls sounded this good.
I bought a 2013 Epiphone LP Custom Silverburst partially because I'm a huge Tool/Adam Jones fan but also I'm just a fan of the look of the paint scheme. Quickly became my favorite because it's so smooth and easy to play.
Lol austin your older videos... youre such a goof! and that why i love it. This guitar is insanely beautiful shes a beaut. And im impressed with your playing over the years.. youre not just a historian but a player in 2023! Youre a gangster A
the sound is amazing
Great Tool playing!
I was born in '78, my favourite band is TooL (even though Adam isn't my favourite player, I still love his work) Silver burst is one of my favourite looks for a guitar and a Les Paul is absolutely my favourite guitar to play.
Video posted a day ago and already sold 🤣💰. I didn't even see a price tag to try to convince my wife it was a good idea...oh well 😪
Great job Austin, you made me want to buy it. Now I just have to wait for the Jones signature line to show up to drool over instead, but that birthday guitar factor...yeah, that will never happen again.
Edit - Also you play a bit of Parabola after that feedback whine in the demo...DUDE!!!
My gosh that guitar looks amazing!!!! And at 42 years old.
Awesome Trogly《☆》I miss my 79 black beauty🤓🗣🔊☮✌👍🏾
Thanks for the vintage Gibson history. It has been too long. The old trogly, the best
Sounds awesome!
