Dude not cool
That refinished Zack Wild guitar reminds me a little of the natural you have or had. I think it looks good like it is now but I'm sure he lowered its value. You can still see some of the old finish from what I've seen where the neck meets the body.
From far off the PRS looks like it has a display showing the peeks and lows through out the octaves. I would've been more impressed with the 335 if the area that was not so flamed and active would've been on the same side together. Being the top lacking flame near the f hole so when you looked at the back of would be right behind the less figured part of the top.
What's up with the white around the tuner nuts? ✌️
To be fair, I'm pretty sure this is something Zakk would've done to one of his guitars to. Considering he's pounded bottlecaps into one of his customs before lmao
He’s rich and can get a new one for free. These mods are ridiculous, pointless, and devaluing.
Just opinions haha
@@Asshat237t’s his guitar (the seller), he can do with it whatever he wants. Even though I don’t agree with it.
That bullseye finished probably got destroyed. Looking at the hardware the original paint job wouldn't have faired well so that guy decided to strip it off the the natural wood underneath looks good. Instead of repainting the bullseye and people claiming it is a fake he just made it into a natural finish guitar.
Yes I agree💯% for this and at the same time the pickups got messed up and fried so he had to fix those too.
That natural actually looks great unlike the bullseyes.
Love it as well - I'll change any guitar "I own" to look sound and feel the way I want it to be, and everyone has the right to do the same. As much as I love a beautiful guitar - and Trogly finds some zingers - the ones I own are there to be played.
Also I kind of liked the PRS until Trog mentioned the arse flaps and that totally spoiled it for me 😂 - I'd go with the relaxing ocean blue one for $5k more lol
I would've done the same with those tacky Bullseye finishes. Got some Mick Ronson vibes now
Word
@@michaeldoerksen2841 that was exactly what I thought as well... gotta love Mick Ronson!!!...
The natural looks 1000% better
agreed. not many production les paul’s out there with maple necks. and pretty sure not everyone is into the bulls eye graphic
I’ll admit it looks a lot cleaner and nicer than the bullseye
Good for him, waaay nicer than the bullseye!
Yes I agree!
100%, it's gone from being a copy of Zakk's to their own thing!
I feel that even Zakk would approve of the modifications.
props to the guy who fixed all of the things that were wrong with the Zakk Wylde LP
Agree! This is far better looking, and likely sounds better too, with superior pups
I dig it! The ZW.
People send perfectly good historics to get makeovers and pay stupid money for that service.
Oh sh$&t! Trogly went hard with “The Golden Rectum” 🤣 I would call it “The Sepia Sphincter “. 😂
Kind of odd Trog didn’t see a butterfly in it? He usually sees animals and cartoon characters first. 🧐🤨
Even when it's just a batman logo.
Sounds a little too much like seeping sphincter 🤢
@@hughjarrse I almost went there. But I refrained. Which is rare for me. 🤣
Shame on Gibson for painting over that beautiful back on the ZW. It looks a lot better as is.
Kinda like it for $3500. Good parts and exceptionally chunky LP. The whole Zack Wylde swirly paint jobs were great for 20 year old poofy hair guys, but a bit much for respectable Les Paul, and therefore my hat comes off for the guy who grew up, and refinished his guitar (slow clapping).
Someday, they'll come out with a reasonably priced LP just as this one is decked out, minus the Zack left overs.
I think there was probably some severe finish damage, which caused the owner to take this drastic step. The heavily beaten up headstock seems to indicate that to me.
I’m willing to place money that the refinish came due finish damage or wear that made it a point of no return.
Chances are that guitar sounds amazing and goes into that realm of “looks like hell, but sounds like heaven.”
The fact they went with jumble frets and such tells me they wore the old ones out and didn’t want that happening ever again.
Look at the high frets, that thing has been shredded on. Bet you if you snagged it and played it you’d fall in love and not care one bit about what it was.
Look man, guitars aren't usually meant to be stored away, never played in a case somewhere. The whole purpose of a guitar is to play it and use it. Why can't you respect someone - who clearly loved that instrument and played it, and adjusted it to his specs, what if they don't give a crap about the guitar's resale value and collectable status, and at the time when he bought it, those guitars probably weren't even rare anyway. And plus, I've seen some way worse mods done to vintage Gibsons. It's not sacrilegious, It's just a bloody guitar at the end of the day.
It is pretty pricy though...
Fella only sees money but he does make a living doing it so wouldn't expect anything else.
I love it. Not many people can pull of the bullseye lol
The PRS finish looks to me like a Rorschach test.
I thought the same thing!
Well what do you see?🤔
we should've nicknamed it that!
i dont necessarily have an issue with the fact its been stripped, i have an issue that they stripped the finish from a signature guitar
Agreed
Then buy one and save it from being stripped haha. We can't really have an issue with it. The guy had a guitar he liked, maybe he strips all his guitar for TOAN or feel reasons, whatever, and he wanted his number 1 to feel like the others do. Especially early 2000s people aren't thinking people on the internet will pay $10,000 for this one day, they're thinking what would make me like my thing better.
The owner can do whatever they want. Smash it, piss on it , paint it, drag it behind their car bumper
I agree 💯
Aren't all Les Pauls signature guitars 😉
Back in the 70’s a buddy’s ‘56 LP Special was in a fire, cooked the finish on the front. A refinish and it’s a survivor!
Gotta add, that was my favourite LP I’ve ever played, he went through that ‘56, a ‘57, ‘58, ‘59 and his favourite was his ‘60. For sure the Standards were prettier but hot damn the sound of that ‘56 ... 🤪
Never understood why anyone would want to ruin a beautiful guitar by putting a crappy bullseye on it in the first place.
Finish may have damaged beyond repair so the guy just stripped it.
@@lettuce_spray LOL, I can tell you must prefer the Buzz-Saw pattern!
@@lettuce_spray I understand it if those options/changes cost more to produce, however I would imagine every signature model enjoys a price increase for use of the Artist's name as they too receive a cut of the sales pie. And in that respect that is sort of on the Artist. I do believe there have been some Artist models that cost less and that was specifically due to the Artist themselves wishing to offer a lower cost instrument to their fans, its rare though.
I have an early ZW epi bullseye with passive pups, love the sound hate the bullseye and want it off but cant decide if it's a decal or painted on, anyone know the answer?
I 'm I a huge fan of the Vertigo ZW custom. Though it was hard to watch at first. To each their own, it did kill me to see a bullseye stripped. 🤔 Not made for the Trogloseum 👍 great vid 🎸
Just like with vintage cars, an owner can do what they like. There’s a seat for every butt.
3:52 you can still see the bullseye pattern up against the neck pocket!
I'm not sure the curvature is right, I think it's coincidental wood grain
@@hughjarrse how much curvature are you expecting to see in less than a millimeter of paint?
@@michaelpacinus242 maybe we're look at different things, I'm talking about the curvature of the original concentric rings, if you look at the top bout (around the toggle) there is some wood grain that almost looks like concentric circles
I actually like it. Also like the Zakk Bullseye paintjob but this is quite unique and indeed it takes some serious round heavy objects to do this. Probably the original paint was damaged in some horrible way and the owner decided to go all in. Great stuff Trogly!
This bothers me a lot less than that 335 that Gibson ruined with a terrible red overspray.
I dig a nice, natural top. The Golden Rectum, wow! PRS makes some fantastic prices.
Not big on the Z-Dub finishes, so the changes are in my opinion improvements overall, but in the end, make little sense to devalue such a popular CS-Artist axe.
He could have sold it and spec'd out his own CS or Murphy Lab LP. I suppose if he really loved the guitar but was weary of the finish and electronics, it makes sense to him. He didn't cheap out on it and even maintained the COA, so there is that. It is worth 3 Gs or so.
Top reminds me of the Billy Duffy/Mick Ronson thing they’d do on Customs where they strip off the top.
1:36 trogly editing 😂😂 so good haha
You know, quite frankly I like it better now. I've never been a fan of the Zakk Wylde finishes and all the Slash sig models and all that. I like'em gritty & natural. This thing got improved if you ask me.
Gotta say, the ZW guitar looks like an improvement to me. I
335 Tops.... I have a sunburst '95. It has a 'quilt top' with a small dead spot. It used to bug me. Since it can score an easy 97% (especially the 60s profile neck), I don't mind the dead spot anymore. I don't play it much, but it sure is nice to look at!
I love the prs! Rectum damn near killed it! It’s a fantastic piece of work. Paul miles is a damn genius
They should have done it with the maple fretboard one!!!! I have always hated the bullseye. It has a stinger!!
Ooh. Trogly working slightly blue. Didn’t see that coming. Anyway, that PRS reminds me more of spin art or a Rorschach test. Rorschach would be a cool name for it.
I like the McCarty, and fret markers look good in blue. The bridge screws look like eyes to me. 😵💫
PRS and Fender Custom shops you can change certain specs throughout the build...sometimes you don't know what inlay material or hardware looks best with the guitar until at least the body has been finished
Incredible that someone stripped the finish off of a signature Model Guitar like this Zakk Wylde Les Paul Custom. I'm guessing that someone could have picked it up second-hand and they weren't necessarily A Zakk fan so it didn't matter to them if they stripped the paint job off of it. Regardless it's still a nice guitar but I think the seller is asking too much. Love the blue PRS NY model with all of the skyscraper inlays, beautiful.
Seems odd considering he had the box and all, I’d see getting it cheap if it had no box, paper work, og case and stuff. This dude paid a good penny for it
Guitars are ment to be played and enjoyed!
I love it! Want the EMG's on it, but they are great playing and I always got shit for playing mine live, people either loved it or flipped you off! This looks great!
The pickguard redrilled hole on the flame Maple bothers me way more then the bullseye it looks cool like that
And to not even attempt to fill and hide the hole??? Even if you wanted it done professionally by a good luthier it would cost peanuts, but to just leave it there sucks.
better looking than the original finish lol
Even worse than the broken inlay on the Brand New Dave V? PRS make stunning guitars. Your arm would cover that area of the guitar anyway, nice lookin 335!
Hey Austin, I have a few guitars I need you to look at when you have some time. Probably 6 to start with. How do I get you to look these over? Your knowledge is far superior to mine so it would help out a ton to know what I have.
Go to his website he has something I think
Also you wanted to know our thoughts on the PRS butthole guitar, for whatever reason it gives me a "silence of the lambs" vibe. Other than that I 100% agree, this one is not for me either.
Go to his website. He charges for information per guitar. If they’re Gibson’s, just send them to me for inspection 🤣
My son dropped my Epi custom in black. Not wanting a cracked paint job I started sanding and lo and behold I uncovered a ZW bullseye finish. By the time I realized it I had partially sanded through areas so it eventually looked like burnt parchment around the edges. Totally unique but sold it eventually! This was about 13 years ago
Buy it and have the bullseye pattern put back on but in stain to still show the wood grains.
I like how that schiesse burst guitar was finished. Probably wouldn't have used brown, though. I'd be interested to see the process of the gold leaf and anodizing of that guitar.
Like the Skyline, the neck and the fretboard, cool.
I was thinking 2500 too. They stripped a lot of value from, like you said, the distinctive paint job. Should've just painted it white without the bullseye
The variegated leaf is treated before it’s applied. They purchase it that way. It’s one of the finishes that goldleaf comes in. I think you can buy variegated leaf with different tints and tones in it
Yeah you’re right it’s gold with different things mixed in like copper or palladium and that makes it react and reflect differently. You can get it with like a red tint or green or silver etc based on what’s added to the gold. Gold leaf is 23 or 24 karat so very soft and won’t oxidize but with streaks of another metal you get the shine of the gold with less of a yellow hue that slightly changes with materials it’s on. Pretty cool stuff. To use similar stuff with a silver color you’d use palladium because silver oxidizes even if you seal over it on a car door. Variegated leaf is a different animal to apply as well but like with anything the more you use it the better you can apply it. Looks great on glass especially or with a pattern burnished in.
Huh... I saw this one and messaged the seller. Guessing he had a bunch of troll offers because he took it down.
Actually, I can't fault this person. If he truly loved playing that guitar but hated the finish, why not. It's a tool for his trade. Like sanding a hammer.
I don’t think I’ve hated a finish enough to strip it. If I did, I wouldn’t have paid 6k for it in the first place. Kinda dumb really.
@@Wargasm54 Could have been the guitar had problems when he got it. Re-fret on a LP Custom isn't cheap, add a significant amount of play wear on the top and he might not have that much into it.
@@hkguitar1984 even if he had 1/3rd that much into it, why pay that kind of coin for a guitar with that kind of issues? If he picked it up for 500$, then that’s a different story. Anything is possible I guess.
@@Wargasm54 You are right about anything being possible. Back in the late 1970s our lead vocalist scored a Gibson Medallion Flying V. A guy owed our Singer a couple hundred bucks and that was all he had to pay! Even back then it was worth maybe $400! Now they sell for over $10K.
No way of knowing how long he's had it and what he paid for it.
@@hkguitar1984 hope he still has the medallion V? Cool story
03:50 Are those frets larger than normally found on a Lester?
This reminded me of the band Ram Jam “Black Betty” video, it has a similar looking LP in. 🤣
It'd be cool to have you shoot out a Gibson Crimson Division guitar vs a PRS Private Stock to see how the quality differs between the two.
I saw a 78' Pre EB Stingray bass(Trans brown),that someone routed and installed a middle position P pickup+the drilled an extra hole in the headstock?treble side)installed a 5th machine head!Converted to a 5 string bass.Installed a Bartilolini hum,and 5 string bridge.😳.I also came across a 79' Pre EB Stingray sunburst, that someone spray painted black.Fortunately,I was able to very carefully remove the black paint, and the original finish was still intact.Sold it.I wish I would've bought the brown one,but I just couldn't live with THAT many mods.(Bastardized!)
Would love to see you break down a Novo at some point.
Definitely taken by surprice on the 'stripped' bullseye, Austin! I love it! But I'd rather have the EMG/bullseye design version. I've played one at a guitar show and it feels great!
Also, the bullseye and similar Z type bullseye pattern from those guitars is much better less optic white more creamy.
MASSIVE IMPROVEMENT - what was a hideous adolescent idea of 'cool' design, has been transformed into a mature players tasteful tribute to Mick Ronson.
Hey thanks for featuring our guitar and compliments about our video! Your nickname for the PS made us laugh - we try to do unique and interesting things with Private Stocks and sometimes people love it, sometimes they hate it! You should roast our Sculpture Private Stock next 😉
It was a guitar on the sonic Temple album cover I seen the tour in Chicago and it was a natural guitar
8:10 that’s the Hudson River man, not the ocean… I’m not even a New Yorker and I know that…. Cmon Trogly….
If you think that's terrifying you should see my 76 natural custom which years ago I hacked up with power to install a 1940s P90 in the bridge and a 1954 replica in the neck Martyn Booth guitars gave me the ultimate compliment Adam the way you like your guitars to look it goes against everything I stand for guitars are meant to be played not as collectibles so I agree with you a players guitar is a very personal choice and not a future collectible
Can you help me pick a guitar amp and pedals for an electric guitar for playing neo soul? I keep asking for some advice online and I never get an answer.
A fender blues Jr or Deville. Small stone phaser...a wah of you choice a volume pedal memory man delay and a tube screamer for boost and another for drive...boss chorus and an auto wah
Honestly your better off going to a store and trying the amp you Likes and go from their and pedals just pick out the ones that interest you read on forums and stuff about that specific amp or pedals you want you can get some great advice even tho the advice might be 15 years old on the guitarfourm page
I call the PRS, "Next time lean into it when you wipe."
I just ordered a MIC Gibson with flame maple top with clear finish on it...with a Maple fret board and it looks nice cause it's sot common. Gonna upgrade the hardware especially pots to CTS and pickups for SD Antiquity.
if you got it from jacey you will be happy
@@stevehaye Not familiar with that company/luthier but mine is a MIC(Made In China) which is the only way you can request customs here in Asia for a cheaper price.
Me: this guitar looks like a Rorschach test
Trogly: That's a rectum
You can see the original finish where the neck binding meets the body.
10:27 Trog, it's a Rorschach guitar.
I thought Blood Eagle was more fitting of the Golden Rectum.
I bought a guitar that I liked the way it played....a good price...wasn't fond of the color... so I stripped it to natural. I don't blame the previous owner in the slightest. Honestly... I like the refin better myself too!
I wouldn't pick any of those McCartys. I'd go with more of the standard McCarty Burst like the one that I own has.
6:09 you can actually still see a bit of the black and white paint in the neck to body joint, it wasn't all scraped out.
The finish modification to the Zakk Wylde LP is no greater than what Rick Derringer did to his own LP Goldtop back in -66, when he applied a cherry red finish over it - after which that guitar first made its way into Eric Clapton's possession and then George Harrison's.
Well, don't you kinda need the Plaineye in your collection now...? 😅
lol
If I had the choice of those 4 guitars I'd take the single cutaway flame top lemon burst hands down
You can see some remnants of the original finish around the neck pocket.
It looks dope. No bad vibes for good taste.
Some luthiers either specialise or know someone specialised in custom painting, a competent person may put it back as it was - perhaps even leaving the back as-is! As someone already mentioned, it's very likely this was someone's favorite, made to keep for life, but money got tight.
Gibson Repair and Restoration Shop would gladly refinish the top in the original Bullseye pattern.
If I did that to a ZW Les Paul, I'd be buried with it and take the secret to my grave.
If I wanted a Les Paul custom with a plain top, I would just get one, I wouldn't take a bullseye model and strip it down. That PRS look's interesting until i focus in and I'm not a fan of the Fenders with so called relic paint job's, either. I think the blue PRS with skyline is my favorite of this bunch, but I would prefer much less ornamentation on the fingerboard if i were buying this guitar to play and not as a collectible.
someone did that guitar a favor...looks great
Apart from the wasted collectible side, it's beautiful to me, very nice wood was hidden !
10:32 ultra! 🤣🤣🤣
Ohh I saw this listed a while ago. To each is own. Stripes aren’t for everyone 🤷🏻♂️
i don't mind that, it's got a mick ronson look vibe to it.
🏴☠️
That PRS looks more like a Rorschach test to me.
Hey Trogly! I was wondering if you could also do guitars showcasing brands from the Philippines. Elegee is a guitar brand here that is being handles by the greatest master luthiers. Can you share your thoughts about the guitars/basses? Thanks!
I’m guessing someone tried to relic it and it all went wrong do they went all in to a natural finish.
The PRS Rectum Rocker! I would play the crap out of that guitar!
That PRS is unbelievably beautiful.
The Zakk bullseye is corny and embarrassing and the refin did nothing but make for a better looking guitar.
I liked it until I found out it was a Zakk Wylde… then it hurt my heart… Zakk is my favorite living guitarist and I love his guitars. I wish I could afford one of them that someone Hasn’t destroyed.
Great video as always. I look forward to your videos every day and save them to watch as I lay down for bed. You’re my favorite channel, buddy.
you can see the original paint along the edge of the neck at the pocket.
That varigated gold leaf finish looks uniquely beautiful :D
Good for the guy that redid this guitar. He turned a hideous bullseye guitar into a beautiful les Paul custom. I love it. The crime was making a horrible bullseye by Gibson.
Exactly man
So true.
He did what Gibson wouldn't.....a Mick Ronson tribute
Billy Duff from The Cult stripped away his black Gibson Les Paul custom to a natural finish it was like a dedication to Nick Ronson from David Bowie
That verigated thing makes me wonder what a flamed goldtop would look like in that similar process.
probably something similar to this one in my personal collection ua-cam.com/video/CNP6-rpzDNw/v-deo.html
thanks for our next idea 😉
Those frets are those EVO cryo frets, I believe.
