    Thank you Brother Hilton. The teaching of keeping the Sabbath day holy touched me deeply. It gave me a greater desire to begin on Saturday to prepare that the Sabbath will be a delight.

    Your story about the man in Jerusalem was inspiring. If only we could all have that attitude of delight in the Sabbath. Also, that artwork from Maureen Merrell makes a great visual. Thanks for these wonderful Masterclasses. They really enhance my study!

      You're welcome Rebecca! On another occasion, a Jewish man told me that when people see Sabbath observance as “strict rules” they miss the point. He said, “It’s not denial, it’s liberation. For example, one can’t answer the phone on Shabbat. Learning this discipline teaches also ignoring the phone when eating dinner with family and other more important’ activities. It’s not strict, it focuses on what’s important, family and community.” I love that perspective!

      @@johnhiltoniii That is a great perspective! Now if only I could help my kids see it that way :)

    I have really enjoyed listening to your lessons. This week you mentioned a small town in Oregon-Nyssa. I’m from Ontario and married Garry Fife’s brother. When talking to Karen she said she was your wife’s VT. Small world. Love your lessons. Karen and Gary kneel down at breakfast to pray with their family. We’ve knelt with them, too.

    Wonderful presentations. The best there is! So much of your work goes into these. To me, you have a gift for bringing your experience and inspiration and testimony of Christ. I feel it every time. All of these (and those on your website) are so valuable to me and I enjoy very much. And I am uplifted as I am brought closer to Christ as a result. And if I may share: I am a native of Nyssa Oregon, so I very much am thrilled to hear that you did some seminary teaching there (around 2001). I was a seminary student myself, in my high school years, I and siblings did the early morning seminary at the Nyssa meetinghouse (Stake center). Many years ago... early 70s Again... Thank you and God Bless You.

    Great Master Class. President Kimball gave an excellent talk called "The False Gods We Worship", I'm surprised you didn't reference it (rather than the other Christian authors). He includes as idols: sports, cars, recreation, and such. It is a talk that will cause you to think and reflect!

    I shared that reel with my friends it was funny... my question is, do we know how old Ammon could have been around that time? Like were he and the other Ammon (in terms of age) peers, or was he a baby back then? Or do we not have enough info?

    • @johnhiltoniii
      @johnhiltoniii  5 місяців тому +1

      Not enough info, but the Ammon of Mosiah 7 could easily be 20-30 years older than the son of Mosiah. But we can't say for sure!

    Why does your lesson cover Mosiah 7-13 when Church's CFM is Mosiah 7-10

    • @johnhiltoniii
      @johnhiltoniii  4 місяці тому +2

      Great question--two reasons. 1. This Master Class is meant to last beyond this year's CFM year...so while I stay pretty close to CFM, it's not exact. 2. I wanted to have more time for a special class that just focused on Mosiah 14-16. Hope that helps!
