I just recently saw the movie, "Escape From Germany." It is the retelling of the LDS Church getting all 29 of the missionaries out of Germany just prior to Hitler's invasion of Poland and the start of WW2. Talk about a modern-day escape! It's an incredibly uplifting story of how the Lord will help His people!

You are one person who has made a difference in my life, John. I just finished reading your book Considering the Cross and found it so satisfying. I've always felt that when I saw a cross (whether on a building, monument or worn by a person) it was a symbol of gratitude and reverence for the greatest sacrifice ever made and for His infinite love. He still calls out to us to follow Him, even though all we like sheep have gone astray (at least in some way).

We are going through a difficult time and feel "in bondage" to the trials. Although we have been praying, your teaching of this passage has encouraged me to pray more earnestly, humble myself more diligently, apply greater faith in the Lords timing and trust He will see us through this. This teaching came at such an important juncture in our story. Thank you!!!

This IS an intense organization! And we each will have to stand as a witness of God even until death, whether our death or someone we love. That is the plan, else what is the meaning of “stand as a witness” ? We all die and thus we all have the opportunity to stand as a witness of God at all times and in all things and in all places we may be in even until death.

Brother Hilton, listen to the part of context between prophets and apostles
I understand that we are put in each Dispensation for each others helping out one another.
And family members and friends all circle back;Like Ones that really seek understanding and things that need to be past down and Better Clear more on the doctrines..
I am finding different videos popping up that show all through these days so many people are being touched by knowing just part of the truth, or getting confused as who came to them to open their eyes and they became believers in God and Jesus Christ.
And I hope that more people will come to knowledgeable Truths ❤❤❤ 17:53

    Excellent course of study!
It is true that Abinadi probably died not knowing the impact of his teachings but, what do you think his reception into the spirit world was like?
I believe that among his family and friends the Savior was there too giving him hugs and showing him the impact of his mission.
Now speaking of the totally hypothetical realm of possibility. Brother Hilton, the idea of Abinadi being the angel that spoke to King Benjamin could mean that this was a plan to bring the people of Zarahemla, Limhi, and Alma together and have a common spiritual understanding!
Again the proceeding thought is totally hypothetical but I wouldn’t put it past our amazing Father in Heaven to bless in such a way!
Keep up the great work! 10:56

I loved what you taught about Abinadi and Benjamin. People do not always understand how important it is to know who his was and skip him. They focus on everything else and really pass quickly on Abinadi. This is what happened in the Sunday school I have attended, this year, on Mosiah 17-24. I was so disappointed.
I am in my 60s. When I was young there were series or films where relying on God was taught. This is very seldom now. Most of victories are due to the strength (intellectual or physical) of men/women: God is no longer mentioned. So sad...

I am in a tiny group a couple from mainland visited our Church Sacrament. He said what a good impression he made walking and telling others on the beach why he was wearing a suit on a Sunday. I thought it would be better if they offered to serve a mission and go where they are called. It is easier to please ourselves how and where we serve.

Bro Hilton, recently I came across some ideas that I feel like go well with your idea of Abinadi being Benjamin’s angel.
So in Omni 1:30 we read “And I, Amaleki, had a brother, who also went with them.” The speculation is that Abinadi is Amaleki’s brother both of them being sons of Abinadom.
What’s interesting is that in Omni 1:25 it says “knowing king Benjamin to be a just man before the Lord, wherefore, I shall deliver up these plates unto him.” Amaleki was the one that gave the plates to King Benjamin.
If these theories are true this family seems to care a lot about the safety of the plates and scared artifacts as well as the wellbeing of King Benjamin and the people. Seems like they have some authority and stewardship over the people and plates so it would make sense to me for Abinadi to deliver the message. Just an interesting idea I wanted to share.

I printed and read your essay on the Abinadi/Benjamin connection prior to seeing this video. Great information! Shared it with the adult CFM class. Thank you for your work to help us learn from a scholar’s point of view. Very cool

Is mourning with those who mourn part of our baptismal covenant? I recently heard it wasn’t and reread Alma 18 closely and I can see the argument that Alma was asking as a prerequisite maybe but then moves on to the covenant after?
I can see the argument but I was taught this my entire life. I also couldn’t find direct quotes from prophets saying it was. So I thought I’d turn to the covenant expert channel haha.

This is a great question! It's definitely part of what Alma mentions in Mosiah 18--clearly as believers in Jesus Christ, we are going to mourn with those who mourn. Is that technically part of the baptismal covenant? I'll have to look into this further to see if there are specific prophetic teachings on this.

The other facets that are frequently associated with the baptismal covenant-that we “bear one another’s burdens,” “mourn with those that mourn,” and “comfort those that [are] in need of comfort”- ARE FRUITS OF MAKING THE COVENANT RATHER THAN PART OF THE ACTUAL COVENANT. These facets are important because they are what a converted soul would naturally do.
