Hacking and Reviewing the Goehner's Bench Vise // A Crucial Bench Appliance!

- Bench vises come in many shapes and sizes. If you're a woodworker, a bench vise usually means a vise that's at the surface of your bench that allows you to clamp wood stock. But even woodworkers need a vise to cut steel and other metallic objects with and in this video, I'm going to show you how you can have your cake and eat it too with the Goehner's Bench Vise. I'll show you what comes in the box, how to mount it and a few ways that I think are more appropriate for woodworker benches.

How in the world do you come up with so many excellent ideas. I love your shorts and long form videos! thanks for what you do.
An alternate hack for you is to cut a 2x6 to the same length as your bench is wide. Mount the vise on one end. Cut a slot down the center and place a bolt through the slot in the 2x6 into your bench. You can loosen the bolt through the 2x6 and in your bench and slide the entire 2x6 and vise out into the open where you can get to all sides of what ever it is you are working on. If you need the entire top of your bench one bolt is removed and the vise and 2x6 are removed. Wish I could send a picture. If you work on odd sized things this is the best vise hack I have seen.
Brilliant, Rob! 😃
I have 2 of those vises, a new one that is screwed to a tool bench and an older and bigger one that my father had for decades and refurbished. And that's exactly what I'm going to do with it. 😊
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Trees have secrets? The ones round here are blabbermouths! Another excellent vid Rob with plenty of good ideas. I especially liked the drill press thing. Cheers mate.
Pretty cool how you go above and beyond for us,i always notice it and this is the first time im thanking you,i appreciate your time and knowledge.
Great idea! I already have a metal vise on a block of wood that I wedge between dog holes. But I never thought to turn it vertical in the wood vise 👍😊
Great video, and it looks like a good vise. I've had one for many years in my shop with a similar base, though mine has two identical cross pieces. Having two lets me store it sitting flat on a shelf which makes it easier to stow, and if I just need to do light work or to use the anvil it can be set on top of my workbench without clamping as the weight of the vise is enough to keep it from moving around much. The cross pieces are spaced so they saddle over the front face of my woodworking vise so I can clamp it there if needed for heavier work.
Great video Rob! Thanks for sharing it with us!💖😎👍JP
Excellent ideas. Thank you!
Imma gonna try this with my full size vice.... heavy yes, but I'm too cheap to replace it ;)
Practical and economical
I think I'll stick with getting the Doyle vise from HF.
