  • Since COVID the quality of some parts from reputable suppliers has been the same as generic Chinese products. Normally this is fine but today it really caused me trouble!

    It's all about quality control. Quality control ensures that there's correct document control, version control etc. Unfortunately QC costs money and requires constant attention.

      Exactly right! Hit the nail on the head.

    It's a sign of the modern world, I've noticed a big change in my 30 years or so of working, quality and pride has declined, the main priority for big companies is profit for the owners and stuff like inclusion and diversity take more priority than quality, the quality of the people working for them is low, everything is outsourced to someone else and resold for profit, nobody really cares about quality as long as the money is rolling.

    Quite common now. Brembo brakes supplied by a "European" car parts supplier are now made in China and are utter crap compared to how they used to be.

    Big difference now between 'OE' parts and 'OEM' parts.. 'orignial equipment' and 'original equipment manufacturer.'. A lot of OE parts are outsourced ( China), OEM means as fitted to the vehicle originally and should be a much better quality... the manufacturers don't care too much for the post finance owners now, so 'OE' parts are usually supplied by the parts department. Trouble is a lot of JLR stuff is China origin to start with now anyway... hence the TERRIBLE reliability issues they are becoming renowned for.

    Another thing is how many resources - materials, energy, work hours - that are wasted on making crappy parts, and parts that _almost_ fit. It's just inane.

    Euro car parts? Not really a surprise. Would never use euro car parts unless absolutely necessary

      They’ve got nothing to do with this. Why would you even mention that?

      @@theweekthatis that was supplied by euro car parts. I can tell from the sticker on it that's their stock number. Just I have lots of experience of euro car parts supplying my customers with incorrect /questionable quality parts.

      It’s a sealed TRW part in a sealed TRW, I checked the part number against the genuine number. Euros just stuck the sticker on, they don’t have anything to do with this.

    I couldn't agree more. I bought a clutch master cylind for a Land Rover, it was usless. I won't buy chinese parts, they're utter poo!

      Chinese stuff is great, but bought from a Chinese company, they actually care about the product. TRW couldn’t get me off the phone quick enough.

      Don’t be silly, this is a TRW issue, the bag was sealed and the box was sealed.

    If you can not get the right part can you just file of machine the bit to the right spec?

      Annoyingly not as it’s internal the connection, it would have to go on a lathe.

    Always insist on OEM parts

      TRW literally are the OEM.

    • @cseanny
      @cseanny Місяць тому

      No, always insist on “genuine”. A parts manufacturer can supply any part and say it’s OEM, even if they don’t actually make that for the car maker, as long as they manufacture ANY part for the car maker.

      @theweekthatis  Місяць тому +2

      TRW literally ARE the manufacturer for Land Rover, the old part had TRW cast into it. Also the servo was in the same box and the same part with the Land Rover Logo scratched off.
