    every time i buy a second hand car i replace the cabin filter, oil, oil filter, air filter regardless of them being needed. My yearly service just before an mot is to replace the air filter, oil, oil filter. I also check the brakes and disc's regularly so i know it stands a good chance to pass the mot and emmissions

      Totally agree with this mate. Very difficult to know if it’s actually been serviced or not; trust me I’ve come across many of these dealers that have ‘serviced’ a vehicle before handing it over to a new customer

    Engine oil+filter usually around 10.000 Km, pollenfilter every 12 months, air and fuel filter 40-60.000Km. Haldex oil+filter 30.000Km. This works good for me where I live :)

    Additives (fuel or oil) make me nervous. The car manufacturers, oil manufacturers and fuel manufacturers spend a fortune testing everything, developing standards, testing that things meet the standards. How do we know what has or hasn't been tested with any given additive? what it might damage, etc.? The video at 19:14 even shows that the fuel cap says "no additives". BMW are nervous too! It doesn't say "no additives apart from Launch whatever, which will make everything last much longer".

    • @luispalma8029
      @luispalma8029 Місяць тому +3

      your note about 19:14 it's simple to explain: dealers want to things have a short life to obligate customers to go to the dealership...bmw gearboxes also have another funny quote which is "gearbox lifetime oil" or something like that, sure, that's why outside the gearbox have a sticker saying the type of oil used...if it's lifetime oil, why the reference to the oil since it's filled up in the factory?

    • @Gazzxy
      @Gazzxy Місяць тому +4

      meh most of the additives that count are already in decent fuel. works out better to fill a tank of premium stuff than go pouring additives in there.

    • @AJB1
      @AJB1 Місяць тому

      @@luispalma8029 Well even if it was lifetime (not saying that's a good idea), you'd still need to know what to put in if it gets a leak, or you have to change the cooler and lose some fluid, or whatever.
      I don't buy that BMW printed that on the cap because they want their engines to wear out fast, and they're worried that all the good additives out there will make them last too long.
      I mean granted they do often seem to have a short life, but I think that's incompetence and/or cheaping out, not deliberate. They'd like them to last ages, both for no warranty claims and for a good reputation and repeat purchases.

    • @AI-Records24
      @AI-Records24 14 годин тому

      @@luispalma8029it isn’t bmw that say that though it’s ZF who make the gearboxes and it’s actually marketing; lifetime means for the life of the vehicle until the warranty expires generally between 60-100k miles depending on manufacturer. It’s so they can sell it you with less maintenance cost. Doesn’t mean you should never change it it means it’s designed to last for the lifetime of the warranty, then change after that.

  • @Gazzxy
    @Gazzxy Місяць тому +3

    no one needs additives, weather they work or not is a bit irrelevant, most of that stuff exists in decent fuel. (to some extent there's probably some in supermarket swill) this is all that separates the different stations, because all the stations in ya area are fed from the same refinery. its just the stuff they dump in the tanker that's different.
    and the "good" people at shell/esso/bp ect. put a cocktail of all the same bollocks people are horribly overpaying for to "clean" their engine or dpf or whatever, save yourself the money and just use good fuel. or a tank of good fuel once and a while.

    Hi guys, because I am disabled I had a mechanic do a full flush of my breaks. I believe they just hooked up a suction machine at the wheels but they didn't feel any better. I had a new mechanic do a full rear end rebuild and when I got it back I touched the brakes and thank god for my seatbelt or I would have gone through the windscreen. I always used to do an old-school bleed at the end to make sure I have all the bubbles out because the vibration of a machine can cause bubbles to stay in the line.

    • @themarvelousvlog
      @themarvelousvlog  Місяць тому +3

      The machine that we used for brake bleeding is very similar to what main dealers would use if they would do the brake bleeding process. The vibration that you can hear is actually coming from the ABS pump (when I was pressing on the pedal). It does that to evacuate tiny air bubbles in the system and also out of the solenoids

      @@themarvelousvlog Not sure that you as a roadside mechanic can say for certain that this is a 'high quality' oil. From my own research (I am no expert either), so long as the oil is fully certified to the manufacturers spec and is the correct viscosity, then the oil is good to use. I have read and watched many extensive engine oil reviews from both Europe and the US and engine longevity for oil is basically down to service intervals based on environment and driving habits. There are lots of myths about 2k oil changes in the US, but these were for older engines from the 50's to the 70's that needed these intervals and the oil was far inferior to the oils we have today. There are other minor variables like using better quality oil filters and how soon to change the oil on a new car after the run in period due to more metal loss. There are some additional properties of high end oils that can benefit high performance engines, but for the majority of us, it's a waste of money.

      @@themarvelousvlog The oil manufacturers spend huge amounts developing, refining and forming their oils. Additives can mess with the viscosity, and interact unfavorably with the oil formulation. They can also damage cats and gas sensors.
      The only additives I've ever used are fuel system cleaners, with good results especially on diesels. The amounts used are also proportionally very small, unlike oil additives.

      Food for thought… If oil manufacturers refines and develops their products so well that additives and flushes should never be used then why do all oil manufacturers sell different additives/flushes too?
      It’s all about knowing the products that you’re using, and know how they interact with what you’re applying it to.
      It’s almost you’re saying that oil doesn’t breakdown and should not be touched. There are additives out there that supports the oil so that it doesn’t breakdown as quickly as it normally would.
      Like what I said in the video, I studied the additives that I’ve used, and I’ve seen them work with my own eyes. I use them in my own cars, family and friends cars and I can tell you, they’ve done more good than bad…
      This is just my opinion, I’m not saying I’m right either. It just makes me wonder what people actually think about these things. Thank you for your input. I’ll definitely keep this in mind!

    By adding on the last part that chemical in the fuel tank , that will go back to the engine, I prefer how you done the first time when you drain the whole old oil .. because now you picked up all debris from the bottom of the fuel tank , back to engine again, I say you should leave it as it is with fuel tanks specially that might eat the whole tank and make a pinholes…. If you want clean tank , use BP garage fuel or Shell , if you go for Jet fuel , any supermarket fuel or any other company, your engine will fall apart quickly … because that fuel is not filtered properly and has less additives to keep it nice and clean and prolong your engine life .

    The motor oil geek channel tested lots of "additives" and found out they all cause more wear, they mess up the oil. NONE of them work. Engine flush is good as it makes carbon deposits into a liquid and drain out with the old oil, but then just fill up with oil, no extra additives.
