      New York is a HCOL city so it's not surprising most are making six figures and even then 100k is not a lot when the majority of your money goes to living cost.
      Go to Detroit, Michigan majority of people will be making 20k to 30k. If your making 100k your living like a king there.

    Yea, once you break into 6 figures, it does feel weird to tell anyone. I remember when I started to get close and I had told a neighbor I made 86k the previous year and the look they gave me. Once you get to twice or 3 times the average dual income household in America, it can quickly and easily create a large amount of animosity.

      if you want your own apartment (no roommates) AND a brand new car (ie. still making the payment) and be afford to buy things normal priced things regularly like clothing, food, etc, 100k is not really much. i make 65k and have 3 roommates.. and that’s in Queens where its “cheaper” than in the video. i have a cheap, older car. i need to make more if i want my own place and a newer car and still have decent money leftover.

      @@BrianRMeo times have changed. My parents taught me the same thing. Now salary transparency is very important. Why hide you'd salary so companies/municipalities can get away with paying crap. I was making $52,000 a year as a firefighter/paramedic. I found out my friends were making anywhere from $70k to $115k at surrounding fire departments. We went to our union representative and next collective bargaining meet we demanded higher wages. I now make $89,592 before overtime, almost $100k with OT. I would have never known had we not been open about our salaries. I got a massive raise pretty much overnight. Might sound like BS to get over a $30,000 raise but we were willing to walk and it would have cost the city millions in fines for everyday they were in breach of contract.

But only people within your circle would know that if you choose to disclose it to them, I wouldn't feel comfortable with a random guy walking up to me on the street posting it for the world to see, you never know, someone sees it and now they know you got money and I feel like that could make you a target. Also Paramedics should make more, I'm assuming your in NYC like me "that's just a guess" but it's always been stereotyped as a job with good benefits and bad pay, I'm happy your getting what you deserve.

No I wouldn't necessarily be comfortable with someone just coming up on me like this but salary transparency is forcing companies to pay what their competitors are paying.       In America that’s barely enough to get by. Especially New York where everything is crazy expensive. For reference 40k in nyc means she is probably living in a small apartment with a few roommates, buys clothes about once a year and doesn’t do very much activities where she has to pay for a ticket or something. If she got injured and needed to go to the hospital she would probably be in debt. It’s not terrible she still would get by but it’s not great and definitely not rich.

    as an Englishman this makes me uncomfortable hahaha. we are taught from day one "you dont talk/ask about money". i have no idea how much my parents.. brother etc... make.
