Originality aside, I really love to see the higher quality Roblox games getting a spotlight. The engine is a lot more versatile than people give it credit for. It’s just easy for lower effort cash grab games to top the charts similar to the mobile marketplace. I’ve been working with it for almost 15 years now. Made a game 8 years ago called The Stalker: Reborn which tangentially takes place in the Half-Life universe, and was very directly inspired by The Stalker gamemode from Garry’s Mod. I also wrote a program that can port levels from Source into Roblox as a technical proof of concept. Ported maps like d1_trainstation_01, gm_construct, and ctf_2fort.

Would like to add, that it's extremely common to spot assets from CS:GO in various games on the platform. Back when Roblox re-introduced user created meshes _(all models and textures had been made by Roblox themselves at the time. If users wanted to make their own assets, they were restricted to simple geometric shapes, similar to building with Lego),_ source engine assets were some of the first to be ported over to Roblox, and I can see why. Source assets are great in their simplicity, they work well for just about anything, just look at Garry's Mod. I think this is also what ultimately contributed to why it's so common to see replicas of CS:GO, Half-Life 2, TF2, GMod, etc. on Roblox.

I feel like ratlobber is a great content creator. At least till now, I still haven't seen an intro as unique as ratlobbers. Also just the way he goes into detail about almost everything, although not unique, still a great value to have.
I feel the urge to say that most people who decide to give Roblox a try (in any way, shape or form) usually go down the rabbit hole of the home page. If you don't have a clear goal or intention with Roblox and you're just trying to explore it, you will not have a good time
As someone who’s been on this steadily declining site since 2016, I gotta agree here. The homepage is 90% microtransaction-filled slop, but there’s some real gems if you know where to look.
I will give some recommendations, if your looking for a good flight related game, Neo Warfare X is a very good combat flight sim with a massive pool of aircraft, ships, tanks, and even infantry! If you want a more civilian focused traditional flight sim then Aeronautica is quite good, same devs, gigantic amount of planes, and a few other things, a gargantuan map, I could go on

I've remade Left 2 Die's campaign level in Left 4 Dead 2, and I gotta say, it translates really well. Obviously there's some things that have to be different due to gameplay flow and proportions, but it shows just how good of an understanding the devs have on good game design.
11:19 Thanks for checking out Era Warfare, we're currently recoding the entirety of the game and are adding MvM. I do developer work for the Recode of Era Warfare and are responsible for a few new settings in it, I can't tell what they are until the Recode comes out I'm pretty sure. (Outdated now, I retired. Got too stressful.)
I'm actually quite happy you've gotten into roblox with open arms and actually gave a chance to it instead of other youtubers who are so idealized with their perception that roblox is meant to be only bad and meant for kids. WHICH IS TRUE, but there are some good gems that genuinely are good and a shame to not experience. You earned this sub :D
I was expecting it to be mentioned after it showed in the background near the start of the video, but you should try Arsenal. its made by the guys that did TC2 and Counter Blox, and its basically the classic CS gun game experience with the sillyness of tf2. it feels like a source mod.
Played so much arsenal before i even properly got into Half Life (which in turn got me more into portal(which i grew up a fan of) and then far later tf2) i feel like it was a sign of what was to come (hard tf2 hyperfixation)
11:19 There are definitely a bunch of problems with Era Warfare at the moment. I am a lead developer (Mainly MvM Director) and there are already issues with stuff like balancing, concepts, and other necessities. However, the recode is meant to fix stuff like movement to make it more smoother, add in new modes and make the game more refreshed and more closer to TF2 (There may not be new classes at all as there aren’t enough eras for all of the classes… despite there being an era between Caveman and Knight). Either way, thanks for checking it out!
It's funny because roblox used to have its own native sort of gmod: the insert tool. People would make models and scripts and weapons and stuff and put them on the catalogue and you could add them to your list and spawn them in with the insert tool. My friend and I would play on this flatgrass sort of map for hours and hours doing insane shit with the insert tool, having a blast. It's a shame they depreciated the insert tool, it's the only way i liked playing.
I know for a fact that I messed around with the insert tool alot but I can barely remember what it was like, i think a really old knock-off gmod game had it though
Thanks for talking about our game the COOL zone! I'm one of the developers responsible for maps such as the Mario Kart and RP_Downtown recreations you played on and a lot of other things. I'm actually shook that you took the time to pick our game out of thousands of others that exist, it's an honor.
You touched on tetragon fortress for around a second, so I'll tell a story from my experience with the game. I used to be an extremely active member of the Tetragon Fortress community and discord server. Overall my time there was alright, but Tetragon Fortress 1 was literally the buggiest game I've ever played. Somehow it worked a bit to its favor, because I eventually discovered that you could absolutely abuse the crap out of strafing to gain tons of speed, and because of me discovering it, "Hyperstrafing" was born (ranging from faster than rocket jumping to literally more efficient than engineer's teleporter). This was the one thing we had that other tf2 remakes didn't have, and it turned players who understood how to abuse it into intercontinental ballistic missiles that could fly to the other side of the map in less than a second. Note that I only discovered faster than rocket jumping, a friend I taught how to strafe discovered how to break the sound barrier. This made the game much more fun than it was before, because who doesn't like flying 500 mph, but unfortunately it was patched in Tetragon Fortress 2 despite it giving us a unique identity from other tf2 knockoffs. It was for the sake of balance, but it still should've been left in and tweaked so that characters like heavy couldn't abuse it. Idk, this will probably be buried under everything else but I wanted to share the story of how movement in tf:1 gave you the ability to go faster than the speed of sound, all while people in public servers were still about as good as bronze rank in any given game lol.
Thanks for being so respectful to all of us Roblox players, it's really nice to have someone that truly dives deep into what Valve inspired Roblox games are, and not just wanna make fun of the goofy lego like experience that the majority of the platform is, in order to make a quick and easy video. It may be funny once or twice, but seen it constantly, it's really tiring. I know I should not expect respect from the other more mature side of the gaming community, being an 18 (almost 19) year old Roblox player and content creator who has been sticking with the platform for more than half my life, but it's anyway really frustrating for me to be almost constantly disrespected and made fun of from other gamers or even content creators, just for liking the games I like. (sorry if bad grammar, im not a native english speaker)
I think the Devs on Left 2 Die moved on to a similar l4d game but it takes place in the Napoleonic War called "Guts and Blackpowder" Its pretty good actually!
@@Animamers honestly in my first time playing i didnt notice much synergy with the classes and the objectives arent really interactive, the game just happens with minimal input from the players aside from some campaigns
Shame you didn’t mention Tunneller for a recreation of Portal. Tunneller is insanely detailed and well made. There also exist a tech demo version of Tunneller for you to mess around with portals with other people. Edit: I’d also like to mention some other underrated games on roblox that you won’t find on the front page. Zeppelin Wars - Two teams, Pirates and Patrol, each have destructible zeppelins that need to be destroyed. Airship Assault - Similar in concept to Zeppelin Wars, far more realistic, very mechanically different. Not my cuppa tea but others might like it. Quantum Science Energy Research Facility (QSERF) - Rather mechanically complex core game (game where there is a reactor core that you can melt down). The community can be pretty bad though.
I realized while looking for this comment that the video seems to be about more 1:1 recreations of the gameplay, stories and maps in Valve games. Homemade_Meal would probably have had to make an entire recreation of Portal 1 or 2 using the Tunneler engine. It's still a shame Tunneler didn't make the list tho, I love it so much. Why is it always Tunneler that gets left out :(
16:32 Fun fact: Their backstories are also changed from the original! For example, the doctor (medic) is english instead of german, the marksman (sniper) is from the deep south instead of being born in new zealand but being raised in australia.
Made my account in 2009, still play micheals zombies, Apocalypse Rising, phantom forces with old friends today. Glad to see people give it a fair shake, it's wild how far it's come and how different it is now.
One good thing about VALVe ports in Roblox is that the most popular ones are ROLVe (Roblox VALVe) and the Half-Blox 1 and 2, both from different developers but under the same title. CB:RO and the Gmod variants are good games, and IDK if you've covered this, but there is a great remake of Gmod back in 2017 called RMod. I remember a game like it from 2014-2016, but honestly compared to old gmod videos, yea it's close and accurate.
i can absolutely see half life and half life 2 being made in roblox but i imagine it would take A LOT of effort so im not surprised they arent entirely really there
Hey ratlober, good video and I’m SO glad you touched on TT I’d like to suggest you check out 2 other games in the l4d2 genre. The first is left 4 blox, which is decently well made and the 2nd is guts and black powder which is VERY well made, it’s the l4d2 formula in a napoleonic setting and I’m very eager for you to check it out
I came for the tf2 part and i'm glad all 3 games i've played were mentioned (TC2, EW, TetragonF2). I personally have been a TC2 player before ROLVe decided to start focusing on the game and eventually remaking the whole thing into what it is today. TC2 has been my comfort game ever since my bro told me about it, though it has given me a lot of rage throughout the years it's still a very fun game for me. So thank you, for giving TC2 the spotlight.
12:19 am , i am beyond bored but i feel alright, thank you for this upload lobber. i really look foward to these. i hope life has been treating you all well.
This was a fun video! My little one and I play Roblox all the time and while I at first gritted my teeth, I came to accept that it’s janky, wild, no rules worlds are the whole allure. It’s a big virtual kids playground, which is kind of wonderful when you can accept it for what it is.
Thanks for reevaluating your opinion of my game Left 2 Die. I'm both proud and embarrassed of the project. Not hard to understand why we discontinued the game though, I mean trying to replicate an already dirt-cheap perfect game by Valve is impossible.
I remember hearing about a portal fan game in roblox and from what I saw it looked really good and even had vr support, think it was called tunneler or something along those lines
Another example of a left 4 dead remake is one game, Reason 2 Die, which recently got remade in the form of Ready 2 Die. The game tries to deviate from Left 4 Dead but is definitely something you can tell is inspired by it. Also the same developers that made TC2 (Formerly, got moved to new group but devs are still there) and CB:RO also remade MURDER from Gmod. The game is pretty dead now, but it’s nice to go there every once in a while. Also I love the game’s music because it NAILS a horror vibe. I’d recommend playing it and listening to the music by playing it since I can’t find the OST anywhere. (Update on the OST: Uploaded it myself)
He did his research on TF2 clones, that's all i cared about. I tried multiple times to get into TF2 but almost everytime i get pushed back. Weather it's the bots, tryhards or random crits i never really managed to get used to it. And with how aggressive the TF2 community started to become that even new content is a bad thing and that TF2 should return to Lootboxes every holiday, Typical Colors 2 became my own bubble. TC2 altho having downsides, it has upsides too.
tf2 feels like an exclusive club for only tf2 players who commit their whole life to tf2 because of how hard it is to pass off the problems and enjoy the game
I feel the same way about CSGO except I never found a bubble thing. I got into TF2 at a good time (around 2014ish) and I want more people to join the game and have fun but now it's just so anti-new-player that not even I would want to start it now
The creators of left 2 die made another LFD style co-op game called Guts and Blackpowder. It combines the level structure of LFD with the Napoleonic wars and it's really fun, and unlike left 2 die it get frequent updates.
Tetragon fortress one of the first Roblox tf2 remakes that I loved playing when I was younger but it really sucks that it never updated and soon some of the maps and features soon get bugged and probably may not see daylight ever again. But, the creator made his game an “open-source” game. Meaning you can kinda just take it for yourself legally on Roblox so I also don’t actually know if it will get remade.
You mentioned PoptartNoahh for his volumetric smoke implementation which is pretty cool and insane but you should also check out the rest of the stuff he makes, he’s a really, REALLY good developer, he once made an entire doom eternal port/clone for Roblox and right now is making a AAA quality Roblox vr game which is insane because he’s doing most of it on his own, really give his stuff a look, he’s awesome.
One of my best friends at the time halfblox 2 was made was helping them with small things for it, apparently according to my friend who went to school with the creators they didn't treat him very fairly. One of the creators offered him very little money for his help while that same creator went off and purchased a rtx2060super using the money gained from donations given to their team to continue making halfblox 2.
Fun Fact: Fuze Studios (the creators of Left 2 Die) created Guts and Blackpowder, a zombie game that takes place during the Napoleonic Wars. It gets constant updates and the campaigns are absolutely excellent. You should make a video on it sometime.
Hey man enjoyed the vid, but im also a long time player of the server you used as a lil cut away gag which made me giggle a bit. We have a ton of cool PvE content I think you'd enjoy more than your first impressions of our TTT server as well as a cool rougelike build completely in Gmod. Still cool to see our lil community seen in even a lil clip gag tho lmao.
There's also a REALLY well made game inspired by the half life beta, i can't remember the name but it looked really good. Too bad it was never finished
Honestly, people take a look at roblox in the wrong direction. They mainly look at the cringe remakes, obby games, simulators...etc. But there's a whole different area to roblox, for each genre. There's shooters, platformers, RPG's.....etc. This is where mainly the smaller games are made, and more interestingly, the better ones.
18:25 As someone who has devoted their life and soul to TF2, I can safely say that it is an incredibly beginner unfriendly game. I've tried my hand and TC2, and from what i've seen it does have a more welcoming enviroment. However from what i've seen, the balance, weapons, guns, mercs, and maps are just watered down TF2.
That intro and outro really made me think i clicked on a jack stauber video lol, really nice job.. and thank you for making! Also, although its a lot more original than most knockoffs on roblox, my personal favorite l4d "clone" on roblox is Demise of Eden, it has a whole lot of lore that isnt really important, but I think it's pretty cool since each character has different kits and abilities, as well as an infected counter-part, and other such mechanics. Edit: And calling it a clone feels wrong since it is quite different...
One of the games I played the most in Roblox as a kid was Tetragon Fortress. It was the earliest TF2-like game and it was amazing, even included most of the weapons from the actual game.
More attributes that Typical Colors 2 has over Team Fortress 2: Rare Voicelines Host Community servers without having to find a way to get one going Everything in the game can be bought without real money or from drops
nice to see poptartnoah get some recognition, dude made a reimagination of 2016 doom combat, and ported brutal doom (a 1998 doom mod) into roblox 1 for 1
It definitely does cater to children. Most of the games on there are made by and for kids. But in the end, it really is just a simple game engine, with built in game distribution. It's very similar to Unity. The quality of the game is only limited by the skills of the person making it. And you can create and sell/share models or scripts for people to use in their games. You very well can play and enjoy Roblox games as an adult. You just have to find stuff that is interesting to you.
@@Aaron_HDActually, most games on there actually aren’t made by kids, but by studios of all sizes who (mostly in my opinion) pump out half-shovelware. Look at the People Make Games video about Roblox.
@@xanderplayz3446 The popular games are definitely not made by kids. (At least not little kids. I'm sure a fair enough amount of them are made by older teens) But probably half of the 40 million games on there, are sloppy little obby's, or whatever little Timmy slapped together when he realized that Roblox auto installed Roblox studio when he downloaded it on his mom's computer.
its also important to mention that counter-blox and typical colors 2 were made by the same group, RoLVE, which seems to be a roblox group dedicated to porting over valve games to roblox. their most popular roblox game is arsenal, which is a recreation of the famous "gun game" gamemode found in counter-strike made into a separate game from counter-blox.
Was pretty surprised that you made the point about the scale being off in the first half life roblox map you showcased. As someone that is mapping a friends house in source's hammer editor right now, I have to say that scale is something that you always have to fight with and make compromises with. Could you even imagine how long it would take that mapper to recreate half life TO SCALE. Obviously you weren't being too harsh or anything... But yes, scale takes a long time and I think the mapper's creation is phenomenal. When you put the images side by side I thought it looked amazing
there is 1 game you missed. TUNNELER is a roblox take on portal, with fully functioning portals, nice textures and shading that make you question if you are even playing roblox.
This is really cool. I am working on a video of the history and legacy of bhopping and you made me realize that cs bhopping became its own game/mode on roblox and even gmod. Now i gotta add a roblox segment. Gg. Great video.
fun fact: The reason why Left 2 Die was discontinued is because the developers (Fuze Studios) wanted to actually fully flesh out another game that was originally meant as a simple "oh, what if a zombie outbreak happened during a different time period in history other than the modern day?" This project is called Guts & Blackpowder, a Roblox game taking place during the Napoleonic Wars (1803-1815) with zombies rising from their graves. Guts & Blackpowder is often regarded as one of the absolute BEST zombie games on Roblox with it's unique setting and mechanics, and I HIGHLY recommend you play it.
the murder mod actually has like a robloxified version in roblox. Its called murder mystery 2 and its not a 1 to 1 recreation but you can deffinitly tell the resemblance
crushes me to see how bad the home page has gotten since genre filtering was removed and now the only way to find good games is to go through friends or the inconsistent "recommended" tab
29:41 by the way, poptart noah has been working on a game named "ares vr" which has got to be one of the best vr (AND PC) shooters generally (not just roblox) out there. he probably is gonne use that cs2 type smoke for his game. really excited for it to release, even tho there is no set release date for an alpha.
I know this is 8 months old but at 29:38 you bring up PoptartNoahh's smoke tests. But his main project is a full fledged realistic VR shooter in the Roblox engine. It's honestly the most impressive thing I've ever seen come from Roblox.
6:03 You are correct, the game’s scale feels a little too cramped. Hopefully the developers of Half-Blox(if they start working on Half Blox again) can fix it. But its a cool replica!
I played typical colors two much more than I did the real tf2. Mostly, you could buy every weapon without spending a cent, which is what I did. It also runs on lower end devices, and the mods and devs actually care about their game, so it’s honestly a challenge to find hackers, let alone a server where both teams are full of them. There are several other improvements, but those are the big reason why I still play it alongside tf2.
a decent left 3 dead remake that was around for a while was reason 2 die, however its discontinued there's been a remake of it called ready 2 die, hope this helps if you decide to revisit this topic
on the counter-strike part you could put bombline too, bombline is a counter-strike like game where the weapons and throwables are randomized, and theres perks that gives you different advantages against your enemies that you can choose that changes a lot of the normal counter-strike gameplay
There's a smaller l4d2 game called left 4 Blox it's really fun. It takes the versus mode into that old, classic esc. roblox style that you're familiar with (since you played that Simpsons game). The zombies are a mix of the l4d zombies and classic roblox zombies, and it even uses classic roblox music and maps, it's sweet
When you mentioned the traitor town experience being so smooth compared to Gmod it made me think of S&box kind of makes you think Garry noticed this too
I reccomend playing a game on roblox called "Guts & Blackpowder", it is a a multiplayer survival zombie game that takes places during the napoleonic wars, and its even by the same creators of Left 2 Die.

The physics engine was the main selling point when ROBLOX was a physics sandbox back in the 2000s
Kinda funny that both gmod and roblox bot started as a physics sandbox
I was expecting it to be mentioned after it showed in the background near the start of the video, but you should try Arsenal. its made by the guys that did TC2 and Counter Blox, and its basically the classic CS gun game experience with the sillyness of tf2. it feels like a source mod.
@@Norim_ source is literally the lost scuffed thing that isn’t Roblox what are you on about
Played so much arsenal before i even properly got into Half Life (which in turn got me more into portal(which i grew up a fan of) and then far later tf2) i feel like it was a sign of what was to come (hard tf2 hyperfixation)
i love ❤️ arsenal i probably woulda been far less likely to have ever even played tf2 if i hadnt been into arsenal.

Note: Tunneller has very good VR support
@@electro___ Nice.
My god I was not expecting a mention of that last game out in the wild
I realized while looking for this comment that the video seems to be about more 1:1 recreations of the gameplay, stories and maps in Valve games. Homemade_Meal would probably have had to make an entire recreation of Portal 1 or 2 using the Tunneler engine. It's still a shame Tunneler didn't make the list tho, I love it so much.

Honorable mention: demise of eden
Reason 2 Die is also a very good one
I came for the tf2 part and i'm glad all 3 games i've played were mentioned (TC2, EW, TetragonF2). I personally have been a TC2 player before ROLVe decided to start focusing on the game and eventually remaking the whole thing into what it is today. TC2 has been my comfort game ever since my bro told me about it, though it has given me a lot of rage throughout the years it's still a very fun game for me.
So thank you, for giving TC2 the spotlight.
it was really nice to play public lobby ttt without the server trying to scam you into gambling for overpowered weapons at every turn

Long before my parents said I was old enough to play any valve games (2009ish) I used to play crappy half life remakes on Roblox. Takes me back.
As a long time TC2 player. I do agree that the voicelines in TC2 is indeed funny

Tetragon Fortress was my first game I played on Roblox a few years ago. Game was my childhood
TC2 altho having downsides, it has upsides too.
that sucks you got pushed out of TF2. usually everyone is really cool and are kind or total jerks! glad you found a bubble in TC2
tf2 feels like an exclusive club for only tf2 players who commit their whole life to tf2 because of how hard it is to pass off the problems and enjoy the game
G&B is based off NMRIH
You should play Tunneler, its THE best recreation of a source game out there.
*also honorable mention to Dummies Vs Noobs that felt a lot like MvM
They also have a Left 2 Die 1. I recommend playing it, + It even has its own intro
As far as I know, the original creator has fully abandoned tetragon fortress and left the possibilities of a remake to the Tetragon Fortress 2 Team

For the versus mode, you should consider trying Demise of Eden. It's a bit different, but it's insanely high quality.
This.
Fun Fact: Fuze Studios (the creators of Left 2 Die) created Guts and Blackpowder, a zombie game that takes place during the Napoleonic Wars. It gets constant updates and the campaigns are absolutely excellent. You should make a video on it sometime.

There's also a REALLY well made game inspired by the half life beta, i can't remember the name but it looked really good. Too bad it was never finished
For whatever reason, the first chapter of the new community campaign Cold Front recreates Left 2 Die's map almost entirely, so that's something.
However from what i've seen, the balance, weapons, guns, mercs, and maps are just watered down TF2.
very hyped that you enjoyed playing the cool zone im one of moderators of the game i help whenever i can so im glad to see how far it came.
no way is that bloblox from Cool Zone
That intro and outro really made me think i clicked on a jack stauber video lol, really nice job.. and thank you for making!
Also, although its a lot more original than most knockoffs on roblox, my personal favorite l4d "clone" on roblox is Demise of Eden, it has a whole lot of lore that isnt really important, but I think it's pretty cool since each character has different kits and abilities, as well as an infected counter-part, and other such mechanics.
Edit: And calling it a clone feels wrong since it is quite different...

Roblox is "just for kids" is a stereotype. And that is all it is.
Obviously you weren't being too harsh or anything... fun fact: The reason why Left 2 Die was discontinued is because the developers (Fuze Studios) wanted to actually fully flesh out another game that was originally meant as a simple "oh, what if a zombie outbreak happened during a different time period in history other than the modern day?" This project is called Guts & Blackpowder, a Roblox game taking place during the Napoleonic Wars (1803-1815) with zombies rising from their graves. Guts & Blackpowder is often regarded as one of the absolute BEST zombie games on Roblox with it's unique setting and mechanics, and I HIGHLY recommend you play it.
It’s sad that you missed one of the best Roblox remakes of portal. It’s called tunneler and the devs are currently working on making a sequel

he probably is gonne use that cs2 type smoke for his game.
really excited for it to release, even tho there is no set release date for an alpha.
There are several other improvements, but those are the big reason why I still play it alongside tf2.
a decent left 3 dead remake that was around for a while was reason 2 die, however its discontinued
there's been a remake of it called ready 2 die, hope this helps if you decide to revisit this topic
Yo is that the space theme from Sheep Raider? That's like my most favorite song in existence. I love you. ❤
on the counter-strike part you could put bombline too, bombline is a counter-strike like game where the weapons and throwables are randomized, and theres perks that gives you different advantages against your enemies that you can choose that changes a lot of the normal counter-strike gameplay
There's a smaller l4d2 game called left 4 Blox it's really fun. It takes the versus mode into that old, classic esc. roblox style that you're familiar with (since you played that Simpsons game). The zombies are a mix of the l4d zombies and classic roblox zombies, and it even uses classic roblox music and maps, it's sweet
the tobuscus reference at the end was dope
When you mentioned the traitor town experience being so smooth compared to Gmod it made me think of S&box kind of makes you think Garry noticed this too
I actually play Roblox Counter-Strike regularly so I'm really happy that my favourite Valve content creator covered it!
