I appreciate this channel so much. Started playing ROBLOX in 2007 (my ancient ass 💀) and I'm at a bit of a pivotal moment in life right now and find myself very often looking back. You've provided me with a window into those hazy days, playing this janky ass computer game that made anything seem possible. Thank you.

@@rockcandidateno? I’ve seen multiple people count 2019 as old Roblox. But I agree that 2017 should be the limit on “old Roblox”.
At this point, I consider it to be “old” ROBLOX too. And for many kids on the platform, 2019 being 4 years ago could be as much as a fourth of their life. So I think it only makes sense that they look back with the same level of nostalgia as I do for the platform as it was 15 years ago

Not exactly old roblox, but one of my favorite roblox games is called "Times of Change"
It's more of an art piece then a true game, depicting the transition from old to new Roblox as the fall of Rome by showing a decaying ancient Roman city. As someone who briefly played Roblox around 2012 then rejoined in 2015, it's representation felt especially impactful for me.
you missed out on 2010, 2010 was the last good year we would ever have of Roblox.

@@SlavicUnionGaming i joined roblox in 2010 and i have to deny. it sucked ass back then, it was a unique time that i have a lot of memories for but man it was nothing but the same 3 types of games mostly cause the engine was a lot more limited back then
I visited that game a while ago on Surreal Games Finder! I didn't really play "old" Roblox, but I've heard things for the most part. On the topic of the game, I didn't really know what it meant, I honestly thought it was just a really cool build.. -_-
I really love these deep technical analisis of old roblox files and clients, i had no idea i could open old files to check the XML code, seeing that unused leftover of 2005 roblox in the empty baseplate is so interesing to me

Really interesting to see all these old places, what I find interesting is how most of these are restricted to the small baseplate made by Erik Cassel shown near the start of the video, and appear to have just built new stuff on top of it without expanding it. I wonder if they knew that they could build outwards of this square

i kind of miss old roblox, building tools were limited so people had to put a lot of effort to make their game fun to play, nowadays games are way cooler but some are straight up copies of others just because they attract people and money, making some of them rlly boring..

It was pretty cool playing on that map, then the whole map exploted and it was epic we were all flying like mosquitoes
Does anyone remember the starter place option where it would have two castles (the one that still exists in crossroads) on the opposite corners of the yellow map where you'd brick battle?
I know it eventually got updated to use the sand terrain later.
I believe it was also used in the short lived (2013? 2014?) era Capture the flag, Control Points and Free For All fighting games which were also starter places though I could be wrong.
That was one of the alternative options from ~2008-10(?).
I do remember the same towers being used in the newer CTF map template option six-ish years later.

The minigame code makes me think that if we ever find older roblox clients, we could maybe see those in action on them!

Even as someone who has played since 2013, so not super old or anything, this game really does feel historical like an ancient civilization just waiting to be unearthed from the current era of cheap games shielding it.

I miss the 2012-2017 era of Roblox, although I don’t play anymore I remember my own place was a block world (similar to a Minecraft world) I was obsessed with the build to survive games, adopt a family and the hide and seek as furniture game. This video brought back to many memories.

the building room is also used for a sandbox game called “welcome to roblox building” and it’s pretty fun, using the same building tools as those build to survive games
And yet kids who joined in 2020 will still want to go back to the days where multiplayer didnt exist and the only games were crappy physics tests and boring building games

9:51 I remember back in the day playing with that model in all of cousin’s places. I did not make an account until 2009 but I remember playing around with that jetpack when he’d let me play on his computer. I remember there was no way to dismount the jetpack.

It's like if you tried to date games on a console with cartridges you could overwrite. The cartridge might be old but the game might've been put onto it years later.

You should create a video on the topic of Roblox v. Blockland. This topic is hardly ever covered and I think there is a lot of interesting lore to uncover. Roblox even used a lot of the same assets from Blockland back in the day, such as the original skybox among other things (it is unclear to me whether they were royalty free assets or if Roblox stole them from Blockland). Also the Building Room starter place from 3/31/06 is also clearly inspired by Blockland.
that's pretty interesting to think about, considering some of roblox's first top developers like Miked came from attempted Roblox raids that started on the blockland forums around November 2006

I actually played blockland in 2006 before discovering roblox in 2007 which is the only reason I know a little bit about it, but I definitely think it could make an interesting video considering most people won't know anything about it today, and I don't doubt that there is a lot I don't even know about it
