I once broke my leg and it was somewhat healed but I couldn't run, bu I still wanted to play laser tag with my friends, so instead of running i pretty much bhopped the whole time which was pretty effective since it's faster than walking and harder to hit whilst you're in the air.
kid's bunnyhopping all the way through ivy out middle and through our connector... through... FROM IVY, OUT MIDDLE AND THROUGH OUR CONNECTOR LIKE A SPEED DEMON
Desinc: Alright, we'll just do an accelerated backhop Valve: *disables jumping in Half-Life 2* Desinc: Alright, this just changes the gameplay a little.
*Dude says monster jam over and over in a more and more paniced manner* *monster truck crashes into the planet killing dinosaur jpegs* Ahh yis sweet memories
it indirectly sheds light on to the fact that the world is moving on out from underneath us, as we get older things change and things that we knew will never be again as we make the slow but inevitable march to oblivion.
+jassie138 I actually think that would be broken (Kinda). Example On dust-2 on T side if I get a good spawn to rush long and land two or three bhops on the way without losing speed I can beat the CT's to the corner at long and hold the angle and get an easy pick. If the max speed was upped to 350 I would be able to do stuff like that consistently, there would be a pretty big benefit to bhopping at the start of every round to get into position, which isn't something valve wants.
***** I don't know. I like bhopping and try to bhop almost everywhere ;P. But I don't think valve like bhopping so much and don't want it to be common place in competitive play.
+Bradley but it would still be skill based and in csgo the max speed is 350 and yes i have seen people use scripts to bhop (never someone really doing it) and they would get to sight before me, Yes they killed me but when i knew he was there before me I was more careful and killed him the next 3 rounds and he quit going mid
+GarketMardener it's not bad, i love bhopping, but this guy thinks it's the end of the fucking world if he doesnt get the movement mechanics he wants to be in every game
It's a big skill-factor being removed. Just another casualization of gaming. It kind of is the end of the world if you want to play games that provide a fair challenge.
even though i wasn't around for the "golden age" Bhopping its one of my favorite mechanics, it takes an amazing amount of skill and subsequently created some of my favorite content in csgo i stopped playing go competitive because i stopped finding it fun and valued my own mental state over 1 win closer to DMG but i always came back to surf or bhop on the amazing community servers and i always hope these small workshop games like warfork blow up and re introduce bhoping into a wider audience. People are likening Titanfalls Movement to that of css and go but it honestly feels like a lesser form of bhopping intended for its core audience (that being console) i Honestly hope to see bhopping being introduced into more and more games instead of it being removed. - - the only instance of bhopping i have found in recent game is that in fortnite for a short period of time you could traverse the whole map using a shadow stone and timing your jumps perfectly after hitting a bounce pad and maintain your momentum but sadly they have since removed that :( .
+Darkklava Yes, but you can disable it in the server settings. CS:GO has a very active gamemode community, and bhopping is almost always enabled there. It lives on in those servers.
Well, I think only certain games should have skill based movement. Arena shooters like UT and Quake were always so fun to watch because it was always fun watching people pop heads while rocket jumping, or while side jumping.
No. You can't turn freely in the air with strafe jumping. Strafe jumping is a way of getting/maintaining speed in a straight line. Bhopping let's you turn in the air when needed, while also gaining speed in the process.
+BreakBitz strafe is a part of bhop. You are mistaking longjumping (where you have to strafe as well) with bhop. Anyway, lj is a part of bhop as well and what you stated is wrong, because there are longjumps around corners where you are forced to change direction. For example on badges2 or apricity.
+Dy Ray I couldn't have a nostalgia like that and because of that I'm feeling emotional, so given this answer you know why it's emotional. Purely nostalgic.
Dy Ray ikr, besides bhopping isn't dead, heaps of people still bunnyhop, until no one does anymore that's when it's dead. Idfk what the narrator was thinking
this was in 2012 when csgo didn't have the popularity it has now, custom servers were barely a shred of what they are now you had to go to css or gmod to bhop and there were barely any servers
came here, watched that video and I was like "wtf man, did you ever heard about Titanfall?' and then I see this video was released 2 years before first Titanfall lol.
Timothy T. Then pls show us, not insulting you but i want to see it on default with net_graph 1 in at least 480q how you do it on offline server. :) i hope no scripts.
FunOrange Strafejumping isnt nearly as complex as bunnyjumping and was added in quake 2 for people who were too spastic to figure out how to bunnyjump.
The simple fact is that the anti-bhoppers are newer generation gamers who don't understand the concept of the technique, and also have no idea how to properly counter it. Anybody who played Quake engine or Gold Source engine games while those games were still in their prime had a better understanding of it and learned how to deal with it.
my older borthers brought me to 1.6 and i learned how to bhop myself (with few tips ..), i can get up to a decent speed without scripting, using +jump on mwheel of course. Age isnt equal to knowledge, dont forget that -born in 2000
Placenta Salad I mean I'm all for b-hopping, but only in games designed for it. When new game X comes out and a b-hope or similar exploit comes out and they abuse the heck out of it and then complain when it's patched, I think that's pretty stupid as the game isn't designed around it. I also think there needs to be more anti-cheat implementation into games that are designed for it, either by key input cool down or something because using hl2 as an example (I know, terrible example) you can just bind jump to the scroll wheel and b-hopping becomes too easy
I'm not from the quake times, I as born in 1999, but I find games such as xonotic and quake live much more entertaining than CoD, namely because of the skill gap. I love older FPS because of the fast paced gameplay.
Spookmeister Yeah but the point was to use your skill in bunny-hopping to have an advantage in the game and for CS, competitive mode. The CS GO Bhop servers are fun tho, but you can't use it in the game itself
Yes but when he compared CSGO to the other games, he never said that you can Bhop in the competetive modes. He specifically said that there are servers where it is "activated" and it records time.
flopadu101 I mean we would be playing a game of opinions and you know what they say. Different strokes for different folks. Csgo is not trash to a large community.
This video actually brings up an interesting point: At a competitive level, how much skill should walking down a corridor take? Obviously, you can just hold down "w" to go forward, but in many of the older shooters, that is almost literally the opposite of what you want to do. Walking is slow, bunnyhopping is fast, and you need to be as fast as possible to achieve victory. Unless you can bunnyhop, you will be at a major disadvantage in almost every aspect of the game. A bunnyhopper will be able to flank you more effectively, find health/ammo/pickups faster, and even choose to run away or chase you. Now, I like skill based movement, but isn't that a bit much? Being shut out of a game because you can't walk down a corridor good enough? (Not to mention the sea-sickness that you give spectators) However, let's look at TF2, since you brought it up, and see how it handles skill based movement. Take a class with 0 unique movement abilities, the Sniper. The Sniper has no skill-based movement abilities, aside from possibly crouch-jumping. But, nearly every other class has *something* that gives their movement some skill. The Demo, Soldier, Pyro, and Engi all have their explosive based movement, the Medic has his Medigun, and so on. But, the big difference between TF2 and older games like Quake is simple: You don't need skill to walk down a corridor. All movement abilities are situational in nature, as they all require a resource or other special circumstances to operate. Of course, this varies based on class. The Soldier has the most common, most useful, and most necessary to master movement abilities. The Engi and Pyro have much more situational movement abilities that may not even be available. The fact that all movement abilities "cost" something, usually health, allow them to be much more impactful, and mastery that much more obvious. It also doesn't shut out people who, like me, are simple "ok" at using the movement abilities. If you think the death of bunnyhopping is sad, then sorry to disappoint, but 2016 marked the death of the explosive jump, as shooters moved towards Overwatch-style cooldown based movement abilities.
yes but if you think about it, thats part of the game if you could move down the corridor well. its SKILL based movement for a reason, also you aren't shut out of a game for it, you can also just walk or run. stuff like that makes a difference to if you are good or bad at the game, my opinion tho
Heh, 900bot's comment is a rather bitter pill now. Lawbreakers is dead, Quake Champions is largely irrelevant with roughly 5k active players, and as long as Fortnite is alive and kicking, Unreal Tournament is dead in stasis. Hell, I haven't even HEARD of Reflex Arena before(I assume that's the one mentioned), and that's because there's never been more than 40 average players online at a time... and now it's 8.
MetaL556 quake is pretty well sane imo, not a mainstream Game because It's harder than any generic fps and because It requires something else than a toaster to run it
I've watched this video over 5 times now, youtube recommended, but man i love the way you added the Oblivion OST,my two favourite things, bhop and oblivion, great video, hopefully bhop will never die out
While I fully agree that bunnyhopping is slowly fading out of existence and that it is so fun to watch someone master a skill that requires a large portion of time to accomplish. I do realise that it sort of.. breaks game mechanics, in terms of CS/CSS/CSGO it breaks timings on maps. For instance on Source if you were good enough you could Bhop through mid doors and get to B Site on Dust 2 relatively at the same time as the CT team. Which makes you have a superior advantage, as you're the only one able to know what time you'll be arriving. This is where I disagree with you on the Global Offensive part of bunny hopping. It is not gone, contrary to everyone saying it is. If you look on my channel "I Bhop on Acid" I get a 13 consecutive hop streak on Nuke, and that's where GO differs from Source. On GO you have to pick your hops and learn your map, but not in the way you might think. Nuke happens to be the easy map to bunny hop on, right next to Cache and Train. While it's extremely hard to bhop on Dust 2, you can still pick certain "bumps" in the terrain to bunny hop off of to get above 290 velocity, or take CAT on Dust 2 that lets you bunny hop on smooth terrain. I personally like not seeing everyone being able to pull off Bunny Hopping with it enabled, but I'd like to not be restricted by some console command. Basically what I'm trying to get at is I love bhop, but if all ten players in a CSGO match are able to go 500 velocity, It would be Quake, but with recoil machine guns. If they can somehow let players bunny hop, but only if their timing is impeccable and start cracking down on AutoHotKeyers, I think it could be valuable. That way the people who chose not to bhop, are aware it's possible for someone to push timings to their limits, and be able to flash at new times.
jumpyJess nice, but it feels extra kewl when on rough terrain (inferno, D2, cobble ) and ive seen a couple of videos of you :P but i usually dont bhop, i just strafe jump from corners, still a small advantage :P
jumpyJess I don't play GO at all, but bhopping on tf2 is something I enjoy doing. You can't gain too much speed from it, but there are slight changes in your velocity when you get them. How do you become more consistent with them? I've been surfing and jumping since I began playing TF2, so strafing is not even a nuisance, let alone a big problem. I just can't get the timing down. Should I scroll my mousewheel faster? Are there specific mice that work better for scrolling? What about optimal fps_max settings? I can land 5-6 bhops max on single player servers, and only after 15 or so minutes of failure. I want to imagine that I can get better, but I just don't see how it would be possible.
Jvizzlezz TF2 is a whole 'nother game. Wouldn't be able to tell you much. I know some exploiters on CSGO that cap their fps in half of the tick rate. 64 tick = 32 fps cap etc.
King Turbo if this is what you were trying to say, on those games it wasn't intended to let players "bhop", those were like little exploits on to gain speed, developers ofter kill this "leftovers" to improve realism or to dont give an advantage to experience players so newer players could integrate easier to the game
It's slide-hopping, but learning to get around isn't terribly difficult. The physics of the movement are very smooth. It's learning to move effectively to counter your enemies that's difficult. In my opinion, at least.
Eh how natural they feel is more opinion based considering titanfall uses the source engine just like most of those old bhop games. You'll even see huge differences in how movement based games work between CSS and CSGO if you're familiar with the mechanics. TF1 had more true bhopping since there was no slide and for high level players it was the fastest way to get around. The slide in TF2 is actually slower than bhoping but they improved on the movement in other ways to make up for it.
+SoarinH You clearly don't know what you are talking about. As a CS player for nearly 8 years now, CoD 4 was massively impacted by bunnyhopping on PC. I remember sniper spots and positions where you had to have alot of skills to get to.
If I remember correctly, back in cs 1.3 and before, the bhop had compounding acceleration. That means, if you were an expert at it, you could eventually reach fuckin hyper speed, zooming through the map. They fixed this by 1.5/1.6 but that's what initially gave bhopping a bad reputation, at least in the cs community. It creates a handful of problems, and was an especially awkward target to hit, as in competitive play, generally you play on low sensitivity. There's also the issue of bhopping messing up standard timings. Pub players won't really understand it, but I played competitive starcraft and cs, and timings are incredibly important. A single second can make the difference between you pulling off your strat or not. If you fast cat on d2, even without bunny hopping, for example, (as T, skip the ramp and run straight down the middle) and the CT playing mid doesn't call it, 90% of the time I would land a kill on whatever CT was playing short because they weren't expecting that slight difference in arrival time. Now just imagine how much bhopping would mess this up. Every competitive player has timings in their head of how long things take (rotations, transitions, rushes, slow plays, etc) and you base your maneuvers and strategies off that sense of time... so when this gets fucked with by an exploit, I can understand why a lot of people would be bitter about it. There's the other issue too that it was unfair to team awpers. If you're facing an awper and you double crouch peaked a corner, you almost always take a leg shot, then in that down time between his shots, it's like getting a second life and you can take him out within a second. The same happens when you turn a corner while bhopping. Take the leg shot, get the kill. It doesn't seem like much, but getting that kill shot as an awper in competitive play is pivotal. All that being said, I loved bhopping, and played a ton of kz_ maps in 1.6 (fact: you run faster with a scout, not a knife), but I felt like the dark side of bhopping should also be addressed. I guess I'm kinda on the fence about it. I think it has it's place in certain games (it fit perfectly in TFC/TF2). But in other games, it either needs to be removed or heavily nerfed. Like bhopping quake style just doesn't work with counter strike's game play style but I was usually fine with 1.6 style hopping. I didn't see any problems with cs go hopping either.
I myself am not a fan of the bunny hop, although that's probably because my only experience with it is having to deal with people hopping around like a rabbit in heat in a desperate attempt to avoid dying.
Unfortunately it became one of those "features" they decided to be lazy about and keep in Quake. Should have been patched out since it was an exploit in the first place.
Excuse me, but every single person that uses something else than a singlekey tap (like the spacebar) to bhop, can't bhop. Using the mousewheel is noobish and extremely non-skill based. I taught myself how to bhop with the spacebar. Everyone can too.
Just gonna pretty mcuh add on to what +LAUNDERS CSTRIKE said. Bunnyhopping still exists in alot of games, for example cs:go, yes it's a bit harder than css but it definetly exists. You can also bhop very easily in TF2. Quake Live is not that dead tbh, and both Reflex and Reborn are two games where skill-based movement is a big part of the game. (Reborn is not out yet)
Alt Rocker It has limits but it still can give you speed. You just cant hit the limit which resets your velocity. Its hard, but possible in its limits. Good for small things and does give better gameplay
Man this makes me feel soooo nostalgic... I remember playing counter strike source bhop, deathruns, zombie escape, surf etc... Those were the days man... So fun to just surf around a map, I was and still am so good at it that it pains me to see people play global offensive on such a one dimensional way... An FPS that has the opportunity to be whatever you want it to be and you use it to shoot each other with colorful weapons... Way back in 2007 - 2013 we had source... We had zombie escape, zombie, surf, rpg, deathmatch, death run, bunmyhop, arms race, prison break, awp noscope and so much more.... Only guys my age will know what it means to draw a circle in the center of your screen with a sharpie and kick everyone's ass in awp noscope...
Granted, this video is about 5½ years old, but even at the time cs1.6 still have bhop servers. Both the cheesy plebian autobhop, and the "real" skillbased movement bhop where you have to time your jumps on your own. And even today, those servers exist, granted they're fairly empty most of the time. But there are still people who enjoy it.
autobhop completely eliminates rng and just tests your strafing ability. much more skillful than scroll hopping. bhop_sqee by forest. go tell me you can do that on scroll.
There is NO rng with bhopping. And I'm not gonna lie, I have never tried bhopping in CSS. So I don't know how the bhopping works in that game, seems like there's no speed cap as in 1.6 where if you bhop with more than 300 u/s you lose speed instead. Which adds to the difficulties of bhopping manually. As for every auto-bhop map ever, memory. And possibly some strafing, but from what I've seen, nothing too special. Check out maps like kz_synergy_x for 1.6 and tell me if any of these auto-bhop "pros" can do a map like that with their auto-bhop :) And again, can't stress it enough, atleast in 1.6. There is NO RNG in bhopping. It all comes down to your skill.
ScizzY Alias never played 1.6 so maybe there is no rng. you are right css is all rng and is the main game for bhop so that's why I went off of that. it does take strafing. you're right, it also does take memory. but you can not do half of the things forest does, nor half as fast with shitty strafing. and most top tier bhoppers can beat practically any kz map you throw at them. bhop_badges2 or kz_colors are good examples. regardless. scroll and autobhop are completely different game mode. one takes timing and another takes insane strafing so much so that you could get RSI from the pain of strafing. I just get pissy when people say autobhop takes no skill lol
To be fair, bhopping in 1.6 without auto-bhop does take an extreme amount of strafing as well, depends on the map. Some maps have a shitton of semi-easy jumps while others have a few really hard ones where you REALLY have to time your bhop and strafe properly. But then again, since neither of us has played the both games, it's kinda useless for us to discuss the matter. Enjoy your weekend.
Yeah it literally is RNG, the entire engine blocks it randomly. When you land, the game pushes the -jump command, when you want to jump it needs to do +jump, it is random if the +jump will work or if the -jump takes priority.
Akiro Raiden Now, before you go and tell me to learn English, why don't you go and learn it yourself, as you obviously don't know how to: 1. Structure a sentence properly, with capitals, and 2. You don't know how to quote properly. Let me fix your second comment. It's from "phoon too much for zblock", that one moment on train.
Ahhh, and the ten year old video talking about skilled movement from over a decade prior to its conception starts with Oblivion music. Excellent. Nostalgic. Thank you from the future.
+Nikke 2800 No. It was a consequence of the games' engine. Just like in Melee, air dodges slided you forward after landing, and cancelling a jump was also a thing, when combined, you got wavedashing. Just because it wasn't 'intended' (citation needed), doesn't mean it's a glitch. Glitches don't have anything to do with what was discussed here, since they're a whole different type of subject matter; it's like conflating theory with hypothesis.
+Trans demilover boyqueer fishromantic vietnam flashback; It's more correct to say it's a bug. All bugs are consequences of the code within the game, and the only thing that determines whether something is a bug or not depends on the intentions of the programmer. Obviously bhopping was not intentional but after its discovery, every single implementation thereafter of bhop was and is intentional.
yeah, and lets look at titanfall 2, How long did it take you to master the grapple, slide, wallrun, hover, strafe eject, run, double jump, stim....oh wait I still haven't mastered all of the advanced grapple moves
I wish more games had bunny hopping. From the few games I've played that have it, it can make the game so much more fun and satisfying and every kill feels so epic
If you are a speedrunner of a game like Portal 2 (which I am), then bunnyhopping doesn't really seem dead; just unpracticed by either the undetermined or the unknowing.
The accelerated backwards hopping in Portal 2 and the newer source engine doesn't have anything to do with bunnyhopping, it's an enterily different technique and doesn't require nearly as much skill. As opposed to classic bunnyhopping, you just jump (backwards) repeadetly in a straight line without the need of strafing (which is what made bunnyhopping challenging). It's basically a simple bug in the engine that stacks your velocity while gaining speed in bunnyhop was all down to the correct execution of a perfect strafe.
ThePwnij I'm not sure what you're talking about. The entire first part of your comment is incorrect. You can't ABH in Portal 2; bunnyhopping is the way to gain speed. ABH is only for Half-Life 2 and the first Portal game. I know all about ABHing though. I am a practitioner (speedrunner) of both ABH and bhopping.
Deerp Jum To whom are you replying? I'm not sure who you are speaking towards. The first half of ThePwnj's comment is incorrect. You can't ABH in Portal 2, and he/she seems to think that I said that ABHing took more skill that bhopping, which is totally false.
Yeah, but what phoon did took a lot of skill, you could tell he knew the maps incredibly well as he bhopped off of bumps in the ground to gain even more speed. Yeah, bhopping wasn't to balanced for the game but it raised the skill ceiling a ton.
the whole point of too much for zblock was that it was a showcase of a newly released cheating method: lua scripts. lua scripts were completely undetected and allowed for every bhop hit to be perfect. bhopping wasnt necessarily nerfed, but rather people's expectations for it who had never played css on esea were heavily overestimated
ngl I watched this stoned and just zoned out listening to the oblivion soundtrack and by the end of the video I forgot what I even clicked on. Great video though, thanks for the nostalgia!
I've been enjoying playing a game called Dusk that makes bunny hopping very easy. It's cool that they're lowering the bar to entry because while I sort of got the hang of advanced movement in TFC and Fortress Forever the learning curve was pretty steep!
+Cyberpunk Computing I was explicitly referring to games like Battlefield or CoD. Makes no sense to have bunnyhopping there. Arena type shooters like Halo, UT, etc? Of course, why not. But it would be plain laughable to see people in BF traverse via bunnyhopping. This part of the video is simply stupid.
+MiauFrito Jesus. Blockbuster FPSes are aiming for realism. Bhopping != realism. The issue would be then: why are devs nowadays doing realistic fps-es? But he didn't say that. He explicitly said it's a shame it's not implemented in BF or CoD.
Bunny hopping was actually unintentional in Quake, and in fact was removed from the game by developers until the community ranted to have it back. Many games companies have made the mistake of not accepting their unintentional glitches as defining features of their game. Team Fortress Classic concussion jumping was a great example of this, which has sadly not been incorporated into Team Fortress 2.
Same here. It pops up in my recommended every so often, and I just have nostalgia over the first time I tried bunnyhopping in a Gmod server and some asshat telling me I'll never be able to do it. I guess I showed him.
it's really sad. Back in the day with cs 1.6. In dust 2 if you could bhop faster to long than the others then the round was yours. Bhop was very important. also g-strafe
I wouldnt say its fully dead, long term halo players still know that bhopping (NOT ghandi hopping) still exists with movement techniques to move quickly across and around maps such as cliff edging and slope skiing and lift sliding, it to is a dying tradition... Sadly. But it can still be done, but is just isnt known with these new gamers. RIP skill based traveling techniques.
Stale Bagelz not so much in games like halo 5, no. That was more so the original trilogy, games like halo 2 and 3 had pixel perfect jumps people had to master, and there was grenade jumps as well.
Yeah, Halo had actual skill based movement and it made sense, but it's different from bhopping. Grenade jumps made sense, because of energy shields, edge jumps made sense just as it would in real life and same with crouch jumps. If you tuck your feet up, it gives you extra space. It just makes sense. Bhopping was a glitch that was ridiculous.
I always hated bhopping. Yes I get its a mechanism of skill and allows for more varied skill level and gameplay but it is taking away form the game by making it something it shouldn't be. I was a kid who bhopped all day while playing Quake2 online but it made a lot of sense in that game. Also probably my fav bhop game (that required it), Action Quake 2. As the maps were quite vertical you could pull off some insane kills in that one. Anyway when games like CS came Bhopping didn't feel logical anymore. The setting of the game was a tactical squad against squad action. So seeing people constantly jumping took away from the immersion of what the game should be. I am a lot more happy that games are more "ground in reality" as the idea of jumping to reach momentum was something strange to begin with. It does work in certain games like again Quake or original mods of Quake like TF. But for ex in Natural Selection (that I also bloody played ages for) this mechanic felt like something that shouldn't be there. The game was based on a different idea and having bhopping marines at least made it silly. Took away from the gameplay and atmosphere and "game realism" of seeing armored space marines constantly jumping in corridors. I do get the general idea of remembering games like Q2 where bhopping made for some spectacular battles but I don't think CoD is any more boring. Just like CS the focus went from movement into other areas. I don't think it is a bad thing that modern games lost Bhopping. It made sense in certain games (by design still can if the theme fits) but in Cod and even CS:S where maps are often tighter corridors it makes no sense to have bhoppers. You use that lack of bhop, to give light to weapons, accuracy, map awareness and team coordination. Yes you could have all that in Q2 but the point is there is more of it when people aren't bhoping around, a lot easier to coordinate in non bhop games where you don't expect enemies to hop at 100km/h towards you.
You should try out the original Pirates, Vikings, and Knights mod for half-life if you like bunnyhopping. Nothing like being an archer and hopping around taking shots at people that can't catch you unless they're also good at it. Also, a little known game called Drakan was super fun for how fast you could skip around when you've practiced enough.
vidyagaymelive Yah the majority of the remaining ns community just wanna play their shitty bot servers... continually trying to get them to join me whenever i do tournaments and stuff for ns1, but they are always like "no, but we like playing against stupid bots rather than players... because multiplayer games are actually designed to be single player games...."
***** Hell yeah, i can't stand them. there was even some british person with a pornographic profile picture on thew other team, i'm glad that i got his smurf ass banned. atleast i did something good for the steam community that day!
wat u mean bhopping is dead i bhop everyday to school
Hahaha made me laugh XD
you skip on the way to school like a 1950's black and white ass kid?
I once broke my leg and it was somewhat healed but I couldn't run, bu I still wanted to play laser tag with my friends, so instead of running i pretty much bhopped the whole time which was pretty effective since it's faster than walking and harder to hit whilst you're in the air.
Godplay Gamer lmao
You should try accelerated back hopping, I find it much more fun and you can go faster.

it indirectly sheds light on to the fact that the world is moving on out from underneath us, as we get older things change and things that we knew will never be again as we make the slow but inevitable march to oblivion.

I'm happy that movement is becoming a feature in games again.
movement was still important in cod4 and mw2, just look at strafe jumping and promod.
In CSGO they should make the max speed like 350 so the difference between running and bhopping is actually noticable but not game breaking.
Bradley
Or they should make it so you dont hit a wall when you go above 300 but instead make it so you just simply cap it.
***** I don't know. I like bhopping and try to bhop almost everywhere ;P. But I don't think valve like bhopping so much and don't want it to be common place in competitive play.
+Bradley why dont the CTs bhop from their spawn also?
+Bradley but it would still be skill based and in csgo the max speed is 350
and yes i have seen people use scripts to bhop (never someone really doing it)

even though i wasn't around for the "golden age" Bhopping its one of my favorite mechanics, it takes an amazing amount of skill and subsequently created some of my favorite content in csgo i stopped playing go competitive because i stopped finding it fun and valued my own mental state over 1 win closer to DMG but i always came back to surf or bhop on the amazing community servers and i always hope these small workshop games like warfork blow up and re introduce bhoping into a wider audience. People are likening Titanfalls Movement to that of css and go but it honestly feels like a lesser form of bhopping intended for its core audience (that being console) i Honestly hope to see bhopping being introduced into more and more games instead of it being removed.

the only instance of bhopping i have found in recent game is that in fortnite for a short period of time you could traverse the whole map using a shadow stone and timing your jumps perfectly after hitting a bounce pad and maintain your momentum but sadly they have since removed that :( .

+Darkklava Yes, but you can disable it in the server settings. CS:GO has a very active gamemode community, and bhopping is almost always enabled there. It lives on in those servers.
+TheRealDinosaur holy shit man i seriously got so sad as well
Well, I think only certain games should have skill based movement. Arena shooters like UT and Quake were always so fun to watch because it was always fun watching people pop heads while rocket jumping, or while side jumping.
They only have strafe jumping while Reflex has all skill-based movement types.
+shirako takamoto Reflex is like quake 3 cpma...
+shirako takamoto strafe jumping = bhopping.
Bunnyhopping is like wavedashing in melee.
Skill based movement is why I like playing Soldier and Scout in TF2 and Melee.
Why is this an emotional video about a game mechanic?
+Dy Ray I couldn't have a nostalgia like that and because of that I'm feeling emotional, so given this answer you know why it's emotional. Purely nostalgic.
Dy Ray ikr, besides bhopping isn't dead, heaps of people still bunnyhop, until no one does anymore that's when it's dead. Idfk what the narrator was thinking
Bushmastr Ashton Exactly! The rise and fall of bunnyhopping my ass. Legit there is no fall of bhopping.
this was in 2012 when csgo didn't have the popularity it has now, custom servers were barely a shred of what they are now
you had to go to css or gmod to bhop and there were barely any servers
Because the removal of skill-based movement is the removal of skill, which modern shooters like CoD and Battlefield are entirely devoid of.

Age isnt equal to knowledge, dont forget that
-born in 2000
Placenta Salad I mean I'm all for b-hopping, but only in games designed for it.
Quakeworld is the best, I'm new to QW, I'm 16 so same reason like you, the scene isn't to big, but it's a very nice and good game :D
Bhops are also in tf2 (even to this day)
well, it still works in CSGO... it's reduced, but at least it works.
But hell, bunnyhopping was life.
The problem with CSGO is that once you hit a certain speed it slows you down. So you're walking a tightrope while bunny hopping to not go too fast.
well he said that Garry's Mod and source has servers that has bunnyhopping enabled where you "go fast". The same can be said about CSGO
4 years later and bunnyhop servers are full in csgo
but csgo bhop is trash
they really are. Full auto bhop with players just flying all over the place
Galahandhi Why is csgo trash?
flopadu101 I mean we would be playing a game of opinions and you know what they say. Different strokes for different folks. Csgo is not trash to a large community.
flopadu101 I would say its decent. I agree it isnt amazing or great.
This video actually brings up an interesting point:
At a competitive level, how much skill should walking down a corridor take?
(Not to mention the sea-sickness that you give spectators)
However, let's look at TF2, since you brought it up, and see how it handles skill based movement.
But, the big difference between TF2 and older games like Quake is simple:
You don't need skill to walk down a corridor.
If you think the death of bunnyhopping is sad, then sorry to disappoint, but 2016 marked the death of the explosive jump, as shooters moved towards Overwatch-style cooldown based movement abilities.
ummmmm... medic and sniper need to learn how to surf rockets to be a good medic/sniper or else they die instantly from the soldier bombing
yes but if you think about it, thats part of the game if you could move down the corridor well. its SKILL based movement for a reason, also you aren't shut out of a game for it, you can also just walk or run. stuff like that makes a difference to if you are good or bad at the game, my opinion tho
MetaL556 quake is pretty well sane imo, not a mainstream Game because It's harder than any generic fps and because It requires something else than a toaster to run it
Nope, not too much. For me it's really important that it's fun to just move around in a FPS game.
I've watched this video over 5 times now, youtube recommended, but man i love the way you added the Oblivion OST,my two favourite things, bhop and oblivion, great video, hopefully bhop will never die out
Can you bhop in Oblivion?
@@ikagura if waterhopping is a thing, sure :D
That way the people who chose not to bhop, are aware it's possible for someone to push timings to their limits, and be able to flash at new times.
i got a triple hop on inferno once, it was about 280-290
de3nnie Practice makes perfect, check out my videos. I've been hitting 13 hops now. :)
jumpyJess nice, but it feels extra kewl when on rough terrain (inferno, D2, cobble ) and ive seen a couple of videos of you :P
but i usually dont bhop, i just strafe jump from corners, still a small advantage :P

I don't play GO at all, but bhopping on tf2 is something I enjoy doing.
64 tick = 32 fps cap etc.

welcome to titanfall 2
Realism? Fuck you, I'm spiderman
The bhopping mechanic in titanfall is intended :(
Coolest Gamer It was in Quake, Unreal Tournament, Titanfall 1, etc, so what's the problem?
King Turbo if this is what you were trying to say, on those games it wasn't intended to let players "bhop", those were like little exploits on to gain speed, developers ofter kill this "leftovers" to improve realism or to dont give an advantage to experience players so newer players could integrate easier to the game
This was made in 2012 ?????
The quality is impressive af
If im right.... Last game with Bhops is titanfall 2, but its alot diffrent... I actually think... that its "More challanging"
It's slide-hopping, but learning to get around isn't terribly difficult. The physics of the movement are very smooth. It's learning to move effectively to counter your enemies that's difficult.
In my opinion, at least.
Just A Dark-Haired Gamer i kinda know how to do them.... But they aren't "natural" as in Old games
Czech Slav I never played older games to the point of learning how to bhop, sadly.
Czech Slav imo, they made slide hopping too easy. The timing is far to easy and going fast is not a challenge since stim and grapple exist
Cod4 was a major Esport game back in the day and movement was basically everything there.
LOL WHAT NO HAHAH

You clearly don't know what you are talking about.
There was nothing more beautiful for me to watch someone really good in a HNS server in 1.6. And those sounds when he does a 260+ cj...GODLIKE
I've not seen much quake gameplay, that looks like an actual skillful move, not the brainless mashing of spacebar that I can hear through the screen.
No one uses the space bar to bhop
MrIdonneva shit... well, i guess i'm a nobody... I will never achieve anything, that's what nobodies are...
(Reborn is not out yet)
wundz In TF2 and CS:GO the bunnyhoppping barely gives you a speed boost.
well maybe if you're bad at bhopping.
wundz Lol nice bait, you can only get a 50 u boost.
exactly
Alt Rocker It has limits but it still can give you speed. You just cant hit the limit which resets your velocity. Its hard, but possible in its limits. Good for small things and does give better gameplay

5 minute video instead of dragging it out for an hour
Check out maps like kz_synergy_x for 1.6 and tell me if any of these auto-bhop "pros" can do a map like that with their auto-bhop :)
And again, can't stress it enough, atleast in 1.6. There is NO RNG in bhopping. It all comes down to your skill.
ScizzY Alias never played 1.6 so maybe there is no rng. you are right
css is all rng and is the main game for bhop so that's why I went off of that.
it does take strafing. you're right, it also does take memory. but you can not do half of the things forest does, nor half as fast with shitty strafing.
and most top tier bhoppers can beat practically any kz map you throw at them. bhop_badges2 or kz_colors are good examples.
regardless. scroll and autobhop are completely different game mode. one takes timing and another takes insane strafing so much so that you could get RSI from the pain of strafing.

@@r4tl_ Scripts must change the rng because people will rarely hit more than 12 good hops in a row no matter how good they are
Yo phoonIf you don't scriptwanna give me bhop lessons?I'm fucking kiddingits obvious
+Resilience _ haha nice try hater.

TOP KEK
it's from Phoon too much for zblock i know it, the one moment on train, just saying.
Akiro Raiden
what even is english
Akiro Raiden
Now, before you go and tell me to learn English, why don't you go and learn it yourself, as you obviously don't know how to:
1. Structure a sentence properly, with capitals,
and
2. You don't know how to quote properly.
Let me fix your second comment.
It's from "phoon too much for zblock", that one moment on train.
Ahhh, and the ten year old video talking about skilled movement from over a decade prior to its conception starts with Oblivion music.
Excellent.
Nostalgic.
Thank you from the future.
bunny hop was always a glitch. devs never wanted it to be in the game at the first place
+Nikke 2800
No.
Bunnyhopping is to FPSs as wavedashing is to Smash Bros.
or dark souls tech is to the souls series
Titanfall says hi.
yeah, and lets look at titanfall 2, How long did it take you to master the grapple, slide, wallrun, hover, strafe eject, run, double jump, stim....oh wait I still haven't mastered all of the advanced grapple moves
Lol all ive mastered is the slide bhop
If only that game was on pc where it movement they added would be much more intuitive
Blah Bam
It is on PC.
but nobody plays it
so you're just going to GLAZE right over q2,q3,q3cpma?
Oblivion music, mm I love this guy
DeltaCS that's elder scrolls music not Oblivion
Lgd1993 J elder scrolls 4 Oblivion
Isn't this the music from in Bruma, or in the general outside area? Can't remember and the game won't run on my current PC....
Pieter Ouborg pretty sure it's Gold Coast
+Rex GameZ yesss gold coast the hero of kvatch strolling down to anvil I've got the best chills rn
I wish more games had bunny hopping. From the few games I've played that have it, it can make the game so much more fun and satisfying and every kill feels so epic
Fortnite had bhopping, it got patched. That game sucks anyway. Quake champions has bhopping. Csgo yes, Titanfall 2(see what I did there)
If you are a speedrunner of a game like Portal 2 (which I am), then bunnyhopping doesn't really seem dead; just unpracticed by either the undetermined or the unknowing.
So does that mean surfing also count as dead stuff?
YEAH MONSTER JAM AT THE START.
MONSTER JAM, MOSNTER JAM RUUUUUULLESS!!
i fucking love monsterjam
Jam on through to the other side.
Ohhhhhhh monsterjammmm, how did you get so cooool.

he mentioned warsow but not defrag : / tho ig it isnt called bhing in df.
Praveen Sharma yeah, but it's funnier if it's bleeped out
HOLY SHIT I SAID THE SAME THING
Thats an old game i played alot when i was younger
if you have watched phoon you know why they nerfed bhopping in csgo
ye, its sad they nerfed it but at least they kept it in. most of my clutches happen because of bunnyhopping, been doin it since 2012 :))
Yeah, but what phoon did took a lot of skill, you could tell he knew the maps incredibly well as he bhopped off of bumps in the ground to gain even more speed. Yeah, bhopping wasn't to balanced for the game but it raised the skill ceiling a ton.
bhoping was nerfed in css also, a lot of phoons clip were back in the day when bhoping was a lot eaiser.
the whole point of too much for zblock was that it was a showcase of a newly released cheating method: lua scripts. lua scripts were completely undetected and allowed for every bhop hit to be perfect. bhopping wasnt necessarily nerfed, but rather people's expectations for it who had never played css on esea were heavily overestimated
Fun fact: The guy who made natural selection is the same guy that made Subnautica
that makes sense
Complex movement is why I play TF2. It's so fun to fly around the map
*cough* Tribes: Ascend *cough*
Lawrence Rhodes rip
+Lawrence Rhodes that game is pretty dead
+alex bro they finally updated it. im suddenly starting to see a lot more new players, too
dead, sadly
547265626f72 Why are you commenting on this a year later
ngl I watched this stoned and just zoned out listening to the oblivion soundtrack and by the end of the video I forgot what I even clicked on.
Shame that bunnyhopping is not present in Battlefield?
Ooookay....
He wasn't saying that every game should have b-hopping, he was saying it's a shame that blockbuster FPS games don't have skilled movement anymore
+MiauFrito
Jesus. Blockbuster FPSes are aiming for realism. Bhopping != realism. The issue would be then: why are devs nowadays doing realistic fps-es? But he didn't say that. He explicitly said it's a shame it's not implemented in BF or CoD.
133col He did talk about an increased focus on realism...
+MiauFrito ... which has nothing to do with bunny hopping, that's what I was saying. Next major game is Doom where I can see it implemented.
I agree. Quake and Team fortress games always had good, though unintentional movement that really took the game to a different level.
man. i almost forgot about this video, when i watched it in 2013 this shit blew my mind that such a short video could cover so much.
Its 2019, june, and we still see pros in kz in cs 1.6 appearing with news WRs ( world records) in new and old maps.
7 years later and still a great vid
yo look up LOLYOU, he still uses bunnyhopping pretty well on CSGO today. its not completely dead.
How is bhop dead in go? Have u even watched nifty or any other pro with the skills as you say to move around?
Have you even seen the release date of this video
*TFW cracked CS 1.6 has more servers and players than the Steam version*
Bunny I pirated that game like a year ago, I loved serfing but the game got corrupts sadly
cant find any servers D=
I can still land 9 hops in a row
good
Ayy thats pretty good
DM I can't even land a good bhop, let alone perfect bhop. I'm so shit in bhops
Non bhopping servers should make it extremely difficult to land a hop and continue after 5 straight. So if you can hit 9, damn son.
good
nice video i'm still bhopping and its 2017 :)
ManyVideosforyou I agree but I’m still bhopping in 2018
Soro 4104 teach me how to Bhop plz i play cs source????
Yath it is pretty easy. Just look up a video on UA-cam.
Soro 4104 can't find a good video .. I can't bhop help me plz
Yath type css bhop tutorial
Just found your channel, this video seems even more relaxing with the oblivion music you put on the background.
Why... Why the oblivion soundtrack, I wasn't planning on crying due to nostalgia today.
This video is ahead of it’s time, holy hell.
And is so wrong about it being dead.
RIP skill based traveling techniques.
brenon45 I remember those days, the days of CTF madness as no one had any idea how one guy on the enemy team gets the flag so quickly...
HALO?? Dude, halo literally downgraded the arena shooter genre for consoles. It’s deemed as a pseudo arena. There is NO bunnyhopping that series.
I still play half life and cs 1.6, and i bhop literally everytime.
Yes you could have all that in Q2 but the point is there is more of it when people aren't bhoping around, a lot easier to coordinate in non bhop games where you don't expect enemies to hop at 100km/h towards you.
this video is fucking sad ;'( i cri evri tiem
i finally realized that this video has 6 years
You should try out the original Pirates, Vikings, and Knights mod for half-life if you like bunnyhopping. Nothing like being an archer and hopping around taking shots at people that can't catch you unless they're also good at it. Also, a little known game called Drakan was super fun for how fast you could skip around when you've practiced enough.
"What other game would let you pogo on your own sticky grenades?"
UberStrike : "AM I A JOKE TO YOU?"
Natural Selection 1 is still alive!
Is it? Last time I played it was a few years ago and the only servers with players were just bots.
vidyagaymelive Yah the majority of the remaining ns community just wanna play their shitty bot servers... continually trying to get them to join me whenever i do tournaments and stuff for ns1, but they are always like "no, but we like playing against stupid bots rather than players... because multiplayer games are actually designed to be single player games...."
"Global offensive is largley void of skill-based movement"
......
***** well this video is from 2012 and GO was shit at that time trust me i played that times
Hüseyin Zeynel Ilhan who says CSGO is shit now? its more toxic than you can imagine. Even in the MG ranks
***** Yeah, i deranked from MGE because some russians got real fucking mad and left.
AnticapitalistGamer i'm glad I don't have to deal with the russians. I bet they're annoying as hell.
***** Hell yeah, i can't stand them. there was even some british person with a pornographic profile picture on thew other team, i'm glad that i got his smurf ass banned. atleast i did something good for the steam community that day!
Holy shit i thought this was from like a day ago, So high quality
