  • In this video, I'll cover the HP EliteDesk 800 G3 SFF and I'll perform a full teardown + re-assembly of the machine. Once complete, I'll do some benchmarking and gaming to test the GeForce 1050Ti that came with it.
    In the video, I will first completely disassemble the machine, then re-assemble it and install a few upgrades. Once the machine is back together, I'll run some benchmarks with Geekbench and we will check how it performs in Microsoft Flight Simulator and GTA V.
    You can use this video if you want to replace your CPU, RAM, SSD, video card or anything else.
    My EliteDesk 800 G3 has an Intel i7 7700, a Nvidia 1050 Ti, 16 GB of DDR4 RAM and a 256GB NVMe SSD.

      Add more storage, a gpu and if possible (Ik it’s difficult) upgrade psu so that you can have potential for different graphics cards. Also should probably give it some fresh thermal paste and make sure everything is plugged in and seated correctly

    Hi, how many watts is that power supply? I have an hp prodesk 600 g3 sff and I have thought about buying the same graphics card that you are using, but my power supply is 180w platinum. so I don't know if it really works for me at least in the medium term without burning the power supply or the graphics card

    • @jensdbe
      @jensdbe  6 місяців тому

      This is a tough one to answer. Depending on the game and resolution you are playing ok, if you are tight with the 16GB of memory, then increasing that will boost performance. On the other hand if you are not running out, a better CPU is a better choice. I'd say go for the i7 8700, monitor memory consumption and upgrade if needed. It's generally easier to upgrade the memory in comparison with the CPU as that has to be replaced.

    • @jensdbe

      There is only a single slot on the motherboard that works for storage. Another option, if you want NVMe is to add a PCIe card with NVMe slot. Or if you have enough with the performance of a SATA SSD, you can also add one of those.

    Can you use this EliteDesk model to run VMs, and do out-of-band management? What upgrades do I need to make for these to work? Or which micro server is ideal for these capabilities?

    • @jensdbe
      @jensdbe  2 роки тому +1

      The specs allow it to run a bunch of VMs, depending a bit on your needs and how resource-hungry they will be. Out-of-band management is not so easy. You could install a second network card but if the host-OS is down, you would still not be able to reach it. The approach I have for a regular PC which I used as a NAS is to have it connected to a smartplug (which I can remotely enable/disable) and set the BIOS to always boot after power loss. Thay way, in case the machine is locked up, I can at least remotely reboot it :)

      The EliteDesk 800 G3 has only a 180W power supply. The most consuming graphical card it comes with from the factory is a GT730, which takes around 40W. A 1050 Ti takes around 75W so that should be within the safety margin.
      A 1070 on the other hand easily does the double (~150W) so that's really too much for that PSU. You would also miss the 6/8 pin connector that such GPU needs.

    Hello... What a great video! It's very instructive. But, i'm wondering, would it possible to replace the stock heatsink with either Cryorig C7 or Noctua L9i? Both have a backplate that must be installed on the back side of the motherboard..

    • @jensdbe
      @jensdbe  3 роки тому +4

      I think that the only option for such heatsink would be to remove or to bend down the lifted mounts on the bottom of the case. As you can see at ua-cam.com/video/n1ETa3mJ85I/v-deo.html These would prevent you from mounting that backplate or the board would end up too high. Keep in mind as well that the case is limited in height so you might want to check if your heatsink+fan would fit in the limited space.

      A typical HD uses around 10W so I don't think that would be an issue.
      If my machine works fine with that 1050Ti, those hard disks should definitely work :)

    You should repaste the thermal paste on the GPU? and see if that helps cooling temps???...and maybe add at least one more case fan to draw air past the gpu??
    both would be interesting to see if that helps? do one at a time of course?? 🇨🇦🤓✌️

    • @jensdbe
      @jensdbe  Місяць тому

      You can replace the GPU, it's only that the power supply is not overly powerful which makes your choice for a replacement relatively limited. A GTX1650 or RX6400 would do fine in here.

      There is a space left from the 3,5" drive bay. You do need the "special" screws to go in the SSD as it is held into place with those. Enjoy playing around with it.

      I'd check the fans, maybe replace them with a silent version. After time, some of these tend to become pretty loud, as was the case with me as well. Also removing dust and replacing the thermal past could help.

    does this have an upgraded PSU? I heard the 1050 Ti has too much power and the most it could take is a 1030 LP . I also seen a 1030 LP video where buddies computer wouldnt run it. If it runs a 1050 ti I'd probably put one in it.

    • @jensdbe
      @jensdbe  2 роки тому

      This was the standard power supply as far as I know. It is 180W and a 1050Ti would require around 75W. This leaves enough for the rest of the components.

    • @jensdbe
      @jensdbe  Рік тому

      In my version, the PSU was 180W only. A 1050 Ti would consume around 75W so should be doable with the rest of the components. Looks pretty much the same as I had in mine so I don't expect any problems for you with a 1050Ti.
