Today we're taking a look at two of the top tires in the market with the Open Country AT3 vs Wildpeak AT3W. Let us know your experiences with these tires and which ones you would rather go with if you had to decide between these two AT's.

One thing I have found never gets mentioned in these reviews (not just Trail Builts, and not intentionally I’m sure) is the fact that buying a 245/75r17 is going to get you a different tire than LT245/75r17. LT is almost always going to yield a D or E rating, which will dictate your play rating (not actual ply count). This also affects the tread depth! So to say the Falken has a deeper tred is not exactly true in all circumstances. Turns out, in that same 245/65/r17 the Toyo AT3 and Falken both have same 13/32 tread depth, same for KO2 (but that’s a D rated tire, and much heavier due to 3 ply construction). To that same point, one manufacturer may offer your tire in the same size, but different ratings, while others don’t. Point is, it’s crazy how many different metrics there are by which to measure the quality of these tires, and further crazy how much that may vary from just one size to the next. The give and take never ends! 🤙🏼

I have a 99 Suburban 1500 I need tires for. I currently have Good Year Wranglers, but am unsure what load rating I need. I don't haul more than a utility trailer with a 570 can am at the heaviest. The reason I'm asking is because of the weight you mentioned. As I understand, less rotation mass would net me better mileage. Let me know, Thanks.

I run the Falken on an 2022 F150 SuperCrew Platinum. I have 58,000 miles on them and they still react as the day I installed them. The sipeing is still there even with almost 60,000 miles on the tires. I drive minimum of 105 miles per day in mixed roads conditions. I highly recommend these tires!

I will say my second set had some balancing issues upon install. But, that got fixed.
For my Frontier I went with the Toyo AT3. More sipes for snow driving than the Falken. Cheaper than the Falkens in my area by about $20 per tire and 3 lbs lighter per tire. Bought them a year ago and have been pleased so far.

I live in Alaska, have been running Toyo AT-2 and AT-3 tires for five years here. They perform great in the rain, and they are second to only a dedicated snow tire in the winter. I run them on a Power Wagon, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Ram Laramie 1500. I don’t know anything about that Falken tires, but I know that the Toyo’s are the best ST tire I have ever used AND they have fantastic wear resistance and mileage warranty😎👍🇺🇸
I’ve ran through two sets of Toyo ATs over the last 10 years and two different trucks. Was looking to get them again since I loved them the last two sets I’ve had. But just exploring options, and having Falken in my car I’m loving those too. Decisions decisions. Yes snow performance is a big factor for me also.
Been running the Falken at3’s on my Tacoma for 60k miles now. 265/75r16 size. Mostly highway since it’s my daily but the tires have seen a ton of off road use from deep mud, rock, snow, loose dirt, etc. I have zero complaints. I don’t rotate them like I should but still barely have any cupping or wear issues at all. Even after 60k miles I still have more than half tread left and am getting ready to sell these tires and put a new set on. I recommend these tires to anyone as long as you don’t need a very aggressive mud terrain

Same, what psi are you running on your Tacoma? I have a 2020 Tacoma, and my Wildpeak AT3W are shot after just 30,000 mi. I mainly drive highway with some weekend off-roading. I also rotate every 5000 mi and use an acurate air guage to check tire pressure every 3-4 weeks. I've been running 31psi (cold) as per recommended.
I have the Falken wildpeaks atw3 270/70/18 on a 2013 f-150. I used it to tow my camp trailer and it's a daily driver. I'm in Oregon so snow, mud lots of rain. I do sand camp on the dunes. They are amazing in all conditions and terrain. I had a set on my wife Toyota Sequoia for 4 years. It was her daily driver. She loved them.
I ran the Toyo Open Country AT Plus [EU version of the AT3] for a year on my Forester SH (225/75/R15 on 6j). Had my first puncture ever. Great overall performance, on wet & dry road, sand roads and fire trails. Haven't seen much mud, because of the draught. But after a very hot summer they hardened and started losing grip in the dry. They were screaming while cornering. Sold the Forester, will try the Wildpeaks now (225/75/R16 on 6j).
I have been running Falcon Wildpeak ATs for 4,800 miles since Aug. 2021. I like them. They are quiet and handle well on road in snow and wet conditions. They look aggressive on my 2021 Jeep Gladiator Overland. The size is 285/70/R17. I would buy it again. This is my first time with using an all terrain tire.
I have 35k miles on Falken wild peaks that came on my Jeep JT rubicon. They have been excellent and still ride and look they are brand new. They also have been great in Northeast winter. They are also very quiet.
Thanks for reviewing these 2 tires. I needed winter rated tires because it's the regulation here in the winter and was leaning towards the wild peaks and now it's final. I am getting the Wild peaks for my truck when it arrives.
What I'm seeing after watching a few vid's is. I just bought my 2023 Tacoma and man the selection of great tires available today compared to 15 years ago. The BFG's,Toyo,Falkens,Nittro,General....they all make a great tire for anything you can throw at them. So kudos to all the tire manufacturers for stepping up their game and quality. So for now I'll have to sit back and watch more videos like this till I get more than 1000 miles on my truck.
My wife has a Rogue 15 road noise minimal on highway handling dramatically improved over fuel saver tires she had previously. No notice of wear although we don’t put a lot of miles on them up here in the frigid winter of Minnesota. She immediately loved her Toyo AT3’s.
Ran my first set of Toyo AT3 37" LT on my 2022 F250 this Canadian winter. I think they did okay. However, if you drive a lot daily, I highly recommend going with straight winters in similar weather. I feel like I had a few more times having to toss it in 4X4 and lock the diff in situations similar with straight winter tires I would have been fine in 2wd. Everything else, they are a great tire so far.
I own Toyo's AT3's there fantastic and not super expensive. I own a 96 Cherokee XJ police package with no lift kit. Grip is great but side walls are not thick for sure. The white lettering fades fast too. They have saved me a time or 2 on the roads. Especially when in winter or wet roads. I bought the 2nd set for my jeep eliminator rims I bought for summer driving. Can't wait to test them this year. Through a foot of snow minimum no problem. Tested that the night before. I've owned it for just over a year now.
I actually have a smaller SUV AWD 4wd and decided to get the Toyo open country AT III 235/60/18 and they completely changed my look and gave me a unbelievably better riding experience overall in every aspect. Haven't had mine long enough for them to show wear but I will say their stock photos in my opinion lead me to think or look as if their sidewall was a good bit more aggressive than they are in person. I still like them and I still recommend them but I personally like and wanted something that had an aggressive sidewall and while these have it they aren't as aggressive as their photos portray. Good looking all terrain and thicker tire that totally dampens the bumps and very minimal road noise. Overall I am pretty stoked with the Toyo AT III
I am very happy with the Toyo AT3 on my F350. Comfortable on road and a beast off road. Just did California desert wheeling and they were flawless.
I'm on my 3rd set of Falken Wildpeak AT3W tires on my 01 Silverado 1500 Z71 and I couldn't be happier with them. They're super quiet on the road but grip everywhere I need them to off road. Snow traction is near chain territory with these as I don't have to run chains in areas others might. Tire size I'm currently running are 265/75R16 and will be running them in 35's on a pair of 17 inch rims as soon as I'm able to get the suspension taken care of. I plan on getting a set of the 285/45R22's for my 19 GMC Denali very soon as I'd like to be comfortable in knowing that if I had to, I could go off road and not worry about getting stuck with that truck either.
Best part is, they don't break the bank in price in my area though not as cheap as they once were when I started using them.
I have used the wild peak AT3w , On my ram 2500 and now on my Chevy Silverado 2500. That is the only tire I want to use. It is great in the snow,and rain .I haul heavy loads and I have never had a problem with those tires.👍
Been running wildpeaks in LT265/75R16 since july 2020 and they've been nothing but excellent on my daily driver '16 tacoma. Excellent on dry/wet roads, great on moderate rock climbs and deep soft sand aired down.
Do you keep them during summer
@@chrisolbrycht9858 Hawaii has pretty similar temps all year +/- 10F in summer and winter. The tread isn't even to the first wear bar in 29k miles
Why LT instead of P-metric? (learning, here, not questioning)
I commented below. To date I have just over 20k miles on these Falkins. I still feel they are the best tire for over all quiet on the freeway and give a smooth ride. They also clean out great when bringing my heavy trailer onto the red clay muddy jobsite and they stay balanced for 5k miles. That was an issue I was having with many of the other AT and Hybrid tires. I do rotate and balance with my oil changes at 5k so good too go. I believe I will get 40k plus miles on these tires which is more than any other tire I have had on my 11, 15 and now 20 F250 Super Duty.
i have a zr2 and run the falken at3w in a 255/80r17 e rated. very good so far in everything except real mud. i have a second set of wheels with swamper ltb's on them 34x10.50/17 for mud. they are unlike any tire i've ever had. crazy good mud and rock traction.
I’m running 255/80-17 toyo open country AT3 on my Jeep rubicon. Very happy with them. They are an E range tire but with 2 ply sidewall not as heavy or hard riding as expected. The toyo seems to feel a little “grippier” on wet or icy roads. Quiet and comfortable on road and great off road.
how is it in mud and can it climb boulders?

Running Toyo At3 on a 15 grand Cherokee HA . No issues so far used for towing and normal road use, light trails . I bought them at $180 a pop when they came out , back in San Diego Ca , prices for them now are at $240 plus here in central Texas, good review I do like those wild peaks as well
My vehicle is a 2012 Chevy Silverado Z71 and just replaced my first set of AT3's for a second set. I have run a plus one size @ 275-65-R18 D rating. When I replaced the first set with 55K miles on them and my tire specialist said I had 3K of tread left. I live in the "Western Snow" state and on, off, or a snowy road these tires have been great performers. Traction on wet roads is very excellent, traction on icy roads is excellent, as for road noise not horrible but am use to the sound by now and do not notice anything out of the ordinary.
I've been running the Toyo at3's on my 07 Honda pilot for a little over a year now. And so far, I am very happy with them. They wear like iron, deliver a comfortable ride, and are pretty quiet with on road noise considering its aggressive tread. My rig is generally a daily driver, but I do the occasional overlanding trips with it maybe 2 or 3 times a year. Rain, mud and snow traction is actually really good. And they feel surprisingly stable aired down, even on high speed trails. These Toyo's have fulfilled my wants and needs, and then some.

One thing I’m curious about I’m not sure if your Honda pilot is a four-wheel-drive or a traditional AWD, but I’m kinda curious how these tires perform differently on a true 4 x 4 versus on an all wheel drive SUV,
@@inthismomentcb Honda likes to call it 4WD, but it's technically a full time AWD with an electric lockup clutch in the rear differential. Honda calls this feature Variable Torque Management 4-Wheel-drive system. Or VTM-4 for short. But I can't imagin that there would be much of a tire performance difference between a 4WD vs AWD really.
I had the Toyo AT2s on my last truck, not the at3s, and really liked their performance. Jot a newer truck (supercrew f150, 6.5’ bed) and when I replaced the tires was going to go with the at3s. Well, one of my local customers sold the at3w and gave me a good discount and after some research decided I’d go that route. With only maybe 5k on them I’m very impressed with their performance so far. Did a 5 hour trip in the rain and they are rock solid. We just got our first big snow here in Mi, about 7” and they again are performing flawlessly.

I have been running them for the past 2.5-3 year’s on my 93 YJ that has been my Daily Driver/weekend Warrior. I did miss 2 rotation’s so I did put more wear on my rear tire’s. I live in SWFL so definitely Experience lot’s of our own on & off road condition’s. I enjoy there performance & big fan of the sidewall’s having more bite, last year I sliced my sidewall even though it wasn’t the brightest idea… I did internally patch it due to how meaty the tread life it had and didn’t have the extra fund’s to replace one tire at the time. Still driving on it and tire’s are all wearing well & definitely have plenty of life left in the now rear tire’s after the rotation. Will be moving from 33’s to 35’s & staying with Falken A/T3’s
I checked out 5 different tire brands for mud and snow tires for my 2017 VOLVO XC60 AWD and came away impressed with the Falken wild peak A/T trail tires. So I bought a set and man they are quiet, rugged, comfortable and very capable for my everyday use. I did notice mileage barely went down on the highway from 27 to 25. I can live with that. I certainly feel safer with the Falkens than the OE tires my Volvo came with. The price was decent and the tread mileage warranty is 65,000 miles. I couldn’t ask for more.
Falcon wildpeak AT3w or AT3wa. i have a xc 70 3.2 and can not decide.
I love my open country 3 I cannot believe the stopping distance on ice & snow at 45 mph and actually I usually don’t even use the 4X4, in bad weather because I really don’t need tooooo🎉
Ran the Toyos for years. On two separate tundras. They were great. Have Wild peaks now, they are equal in dry and off road, to the toyos but they are better in the snow, by a long shot. Wild peaks FTW
Have Toyo AT IIIs on a pickup, got them before winter, love them, great on snow and ice.
I'll be getting Toyo AT IIIs for my other vehicle as well, the Toyo is 2.5 lbs lighter than the Falkens in the same size and rating.
Had a set on my 07 forester in MN and the performance is top notch on all kinds of terrain, its a little noisy on pavement so i got a set of all seaspn from the junk yard to help save the life of the toyos n noise wise because my main use on them is ice fishing and partially gravel during fall hunting.
Falkens are super sticky in wet and snow on my 2021 Tacoma. Very quiet AT, and they look great. I will buy them again.
I have 33x12.50x15 AT3W's on my 06 TJU (LJ) so far they have been good tires they are about halfway worn down and the siping does seem to go all the way down. Make sure to rotate them frequently though because they will wear unevenly, even when not under a heavy load. I have noticed that my LJ does tend to hydroplane very easily at speeds as low as 35-45 miles per hour in the deep puddles that accumulate on the side of the two lane highway by my home. So a word of caution avoid any puddle at speed especially if you're on wide tires and light vehicles because it will pull you right in. I have taken them to the beach and trails they seemed to do well enough in the sand so that was a plus but I was alone with minimal recovery gear so I avoided the really deep stuff that day. Mine seem to pick up nails like they are magnets, so much so that I just leave them now unless they are leaking because the tire shop as soon as I walk in would call out my name like Norm from Cheers, followed by got another nail? Almost like they followed me home and put it there themselves... They definitely aren't the quietest tires I've ever used but they certainly aren't the loudest either... At any rate apart from those few minor complaints they've been excellent tires and I would buy them again... But I'll probably switch back to Toyos for my next set they've been my go to tires for years. Either way both are excellent so my advice is to get whichever is on sale!
Have the Falkens hands down best tire I've had so far.. Snow and rain, mud ect no problem at all couldn't believe how good they have been have about 40 or 50k miles in them an still do rather well.. They hold up just about till there's nothing left lol
Just added Falken AT3w to my 2012 Toyota Sequoia Platinum. My tire guy recommended them over others after I told him of my primary use which would be highway. I was looking for lower road noise. They’ve been installed 1 week and I’ve taken 2 road trips already and am highly impressed with these tires! The road noise is negligible and handling is superb.
seems like an extremely odd tire to suggest to someone who does mainly highway... were you specifically looking for an AT tire, or winter rated?
I run Falken wildpeaks 315-70-17 on my 2000 F350 4X4. Daily driver that has been west Coast to east Coast and all over the northern part of New Mexico and all over the southern trails of California. I have some how gotten 76000 miles out of the set on my truck now. I have replaced one after a side wall puncture and another a week later lost a chunk of the tread but still has air so it's a spare till I buy 4 new tires. They have been great for a multi purpose truck such as daily driver, weekend trail traveler and trailer towing rig. Very surprised that I have gotten the miles from the Falken wildpeaks. Very happy with them and will be buying them again
I have the Toyo AT3 265R7016 on a Nissan Frontier SV 4x4. I have driven 9k miles tread is still pretty much new. I use it as a daily driver. Very good traction on rain in the NW, did little snow driving last season but from what I drove I am satisfied. Didn’t do much off road dirt or sand driving so not much input there. I would buy these again.
Just purchased Toyo at3 for my ram 2500 with rear air suspension and i tow approximately 15,000 pounds about seven days a week for almost five months out of the year, the Toyo is quiet and so smooth so far, it’s working great with a heavy truck I’m running a 295 load range E, I think either tire is going to be a good tire pending your application either one is going to work just fine. When I am not towing I run 65 psi all the way around and it’s real smooth and when I’m towing I bump everything up to 80 pounds, I got the Toyo because Toyo is a heavy duty tire, they’ve always made good tires, i used to get the mud terrain‘s but they pull to the right and these all-terrain‘s stay neutral
My falken wildpeak at3w LT load E are ordered. Can’t wait to try them out on my pro4X Titan diesel

I have had both in 33s . Toyos very quiet and wear longer then Falkens, Toyos look more aggressive. Falkens a touch louder on Hwy but seem to be better in snow first 10-15k miles but then their both the same as far as traction I think. My current set of Toyos AT3 have 45k miles and still have well over half tread depth. Either are good options
Looked at both tires last year for two of my super duty trucks. One is personal and one is a plow truck. Went with the falkens for both. Great tire, wear is even and tire grips in all environments. Very pleased thus far, have around 20k miles on each tire. Midwest weather with daily towing, payload and use. At3w is a great tire. Other Previous AT tire experiences. Bfg Ko and Ko2, cooper at3 lt and xlt, st maxx, transforce AT and a few others.
How do you find them compared to the coopers in snow?
My copper xlt were absolutely incredible did insanely amazing in snow
315x70r17 Falken Wildpeak at3w, 18,000 miles, 2021 Power Wagon. Recently did a 5,400 mile trip, towing Patriot Campers X3 (3,500 lb. Plus truck bed full safety gear/recovery gear, tools, fuel, water, misc...well you get it. Diamondback HD cover etc. Overland trip, OK, NM, CO, UT, TX. Up Imogene Pass, Rimrocker trail, Oinion Creek, chicken corners...that kind of driving/terrain. Fantastic tire, slight bit louder than/when new, sipes still there, excellent off road traction (not a slip anywhere, even when lockers were a consideration). I tried a Thuren front alignment, STAY AWAY from that (with these tires anyways), they do not like it. Aligned it back to stock and no further issues with stepping/cupping, glad I caught it quickly. I rotate between 6000-7000 miles. Everybody has their personal preferences Aesthetics matter etc. Personally these are my favorite all-terrain tires EVER. I'm 57 and have owned more trucks than I can shake a stick at for what it's worth. If tires were not so expensive, I'd swap out the KO2's on my wife's new Jeep
I have a set of Toyo open country AT3 There are 225 60 17 I have them on a Nissan Rouge 2013 front wheel drive 1. they save us in an accident from going off to shoulder number number 2. they have excellent traction number 3. excellent traction in wet roads awesome tires number 4. they are quiet no vibration on road number 5. the steering is excellent precise I have them set up to 33 and a 1/2 PSI So far so good I love these tires
I had the Toyo Open Country I for over 11years now, over 100k miles and yes, I will need to replace them this year before winter. Mounted on a 2007 Toyota Tundra DC. I also bought the Open Country AT3 for my 2011 Toyota Sequoia and will be replacing these with the Toyo Open Country AT3.
Put a set of Falkens Wildpeak at3w on my 3500 SRW Duramax last week. I chose them for their good wet Road reviews primarily. Plus, they look Awesome! I pull a 5th wheel often and the added wet traction is a must plus traction in some of the state parks. Was surprised by how quite they are on the highway! So far, very pleased!

How is your fuel economy with the Falcon AT3's? I have similar setup and haul a 5th wheel frequently. Curious how the tire weight has affected your fuel performance?
Have the Falken's on both my Subaru Forester and Jeep Gladiator. Living in MN with snow I would not chose any other tire. Can't speak to off roading yet but can't imagine they would be an issue. Added bonus is how quiet they are.
I am on my second set of Falken at3w on Toyota furtuner (similar to Hilux). Grip is excellent on gravel, dirt and mud but they clog and don't clear in wet clay. The first set were replaced after 30k miles with the canvas showing between the knobs. Seems I hammered them a bit hard on gravel (metal) roads possibly with too high pressure (50psi) as I tow a lot. Running at 32psi now much smoother. Previously had Goodyear wrangler duratrac which were similar performance. Compared to other AT tires you can get there in 2wd where 4wd was needed with other AT tires. Definately recommend the Falken at3w
Would have been happy with either tire and was looking at both. Came down to availability . The Falkens were on back order with no availability date listed. Tire shop had the Toyo's in stock. So far very pleased. Looks good, good traction and very little road noise.

50+K on my Falken AT3w and there's 6-7 thou left. Been a great tire on my half ton Ram. Ran AT2 Toyos and liked those too. Haven't tried the AT3 toyo yet but may not as I am considering Recon Grappler.
Currently running my second set of Wild-peaks on a 2019 RAM. I averaged 47,000 out of the first set and even though both sets are the exact same ones, this second set has more road noise than the first set. That being said they handle great in WI weather year round and are cosmetically appealing. For the price and life expectancy with normal wear & tear I think it would be rather challenging to find a better tire at this price point. Note that I do rotate them at every 5-7 thousand mile interval and continuously monitor the tire pressure. I hope this helps.

You are getting 47k miles with the WP on your Ram? 😳 You must not being driving a 3500 nor hauling right? I can’t seem to find a tire to give me even half that milage. I haul heavy though.
Been running Wildpeaks for 2 years on my 18 JKU wear is incredible. I live in CO and the winter abilities are awesome. In Moab they have done extremely well, I will hear Wildpeaks for the win on most obstacles. They stay balanced very well 5 tire rotation every 5k. Durability is great side walls have taken lot of rubbing and beating. I air down to 12 on trail, 34 daily. 37/12.5/17 D. Will be putting these on my Ram 3/4 285/70/17E. I have currently 32k on tires and will say just under 2/3 tread left, again wear is incredible can't find my gauge for exact, but my Discount dealer is amazed as well. I can only speak on Toyos as a bud has them on and XY and 33's but they are great but wearing faster.
Your front axles on the JKU D30 or 44s and also are the axles upgraded and if so what did u upgrade it with? I ask because you are running Falken 37s which I'm looking to do the same.
I had the falkens on my dodge dually welding rig. I always had at least 2000 pounds on the bed and pulled my camper a lot. I got 60k miles out of them and loved them. They handled great in the mud and on ice as well as dry conditions. I don't know much about the road noise because the truck was too loud. I am definitely going to be putting them on my new truck.
That is good to hear! Lately a lot of people have been commenting on here about how much they love their AT3's and just in general their tires from Falken! Can't blame you for getting another set from them.

I run the toyo at3s on my vw atlas and it was definitely a step up front stock all seasons lol. The toyos r very quiet, have super good grip n heavy rain and winter conditions, have yet to hit snow with them yet but sometime, blow through mud/puddles with ease, go over big sharp rocks no problem at all and with about 10-12k miles on them so far with no tire rotations yet, they show no real signs of wear yet. I also had zero negative change to my fuel economy it didn't go down a single decibel. The hardest decision when it comes time to upgrade my stock wheels is do i do the toyo tires again or do I give the falkens a try and see how they do? Your video leans me towards given the wildpeaks a try but I'll have to make the decision when the time comes lol.
I am running a Toyo Open Country. IT's a little louder then my old Michelin M & S , but it's 60% more aggressive. I'm completely happy with this tire and it was in the size I needed. I was going to get the Falken tire, but they didn't make it my size. I even think I am getting a smoother ride then my last tire.

Running the Falken AT3s on my 2020 Silverado RST duramax. I’m in the desert so I can’t speak much on the wet or snow handling, but I haven’t had any issues with traction on hard or soft dirt. The noise isn’t terrible, but I remember some Nitto trail grapplers I had a while ago were quieter. They don’t ride bad but have been experiencing uneven tread wear despite rotations every 5,000mi.
I'm just the opposite. I have the Falkens. I'm in Oregon. I've had them in lots of rain and snow. They are amazing. I haven't had them in any desert conditions lol.
Im loving the toyo at3. Super quite and they have been wearing like steel on my 21 ram 3500. They have quite a bit of towing miles and the truck feels stable. The only thing I don't like, and this isn't necessarily a bad thing, is they throw rocks while off road, causing rock chips. Overall love the tire but I have never run a tire consecutively or more than once. I've always tired sometimes different each time and I feel like every new tire I try has been the best tire yet. I may try the wild peaks next but the toyos will be hard to beat

I live in Alaska, have been running Toyo AT-2 and AT-3 tires for five years here. They perform great in the rain, and they are second to only a dedicated snow tire in the winter. I run them on a Power Wagon, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Ram Laramie 1500. I don’t know anything about that Falken tires, but I know that the Toyo’s are the best AT tire I have ever used AND they have fantastic wear resistance and mileage warranty😎👍🇺🇸

Toyo AT3 31X10.50 15 on a ‘91 V10 Blazer(same as k5). Super quiet tire. Doesn’t need super low pressure to widen out so maybe get more without needing beadlocks. Flotation sizes just have more tire to rim ratio than euro sizes. More tire gives a larger contact patch which is better for my unique setup YMMV
It would be really nice if you compared sizes. Like 285/70/17 in both tires to show if one is really bigger or smaller than the other.
This past Thursday I bought a set of Wildpeak for my Ford Transit van. I like off road camping. They're supposed to be good 👍 for up to 55,000 miles. Total price was $993.
Running wildpeak at3w on a Silverado 1500. Got about 40k miles on them and they have been awesome. I do notice a slight degrade in wet conditions, but it’s minor and only under heavy storm conditions. According to the tire shop, they look like they can go another 20-30k miles easily, but I’ll probably grab a new set soon or try out something different. 9/10 would buy again
Well sold the Silverado and got a 4Runner now 😂 might run the wildpeak again, but curious about other brands

Have a 2016 F350 crew cab short bed diesel, in Connecticut on road use towing landscaping trailer w/ mowers , and snowplowing use . Have been using Duratracks but they are slippery in rain and slush , time for new tires so will be going with Falcon AT3W this time based on reviews and opinions, the Toyo is my second choice price quoted within $100 of each other for 4
I have a 2020 silverado with 33x12.50r22 toyo at3 never disappointed me in the snow in 2wd but heavy snow drive like a champ in 4wd. I love them next winter im getting 37's.. going into 3 years with the toyo's
Good video Josh and good comparison. I like how you solicit feedback from actual users since a lot of us view these videos and get about as much from the comments as we do the actual video. I can't add anything since I haven't run either of these tires but the Falkens will be my next tire purchase. I like the thought of (as advertised) the full depth siping. I often hear or read comments from consumers, that a tire gets loud, or the handling characteristics change when the tire tread is about half way gone. I would expect the Falken would perform fairly consistently throughout the tread life because of that full depth siping.

Running a set of Falken Wildpeak at3w's, (285 70 17's), on a 2000 4Runner with about 12K miles on them. Went to Colorado last summer and climbed over Imogene and Engineer passes in the wet without any issues. Only spun once, picked a better line and kept on going. Perform well in the wet and snow. Have not been in deep mud...not a fan of mud....too much clean-up. Road noise is minimal. They seem to be wearing well. I would buy them again.

Hey - Great Break Down of Tyre Type - WE Run the Falken WildPeak AT3W on Steel Wheels - Toyota Hilux 4X4 (Aussie) - About ten thousand Klm's in a Mix of Mountain - Off Road - Town - A little more Noise Now - but Still Quite. We Run Full Gear in Rear Tub - with a 50mm Lift Kit All Round. Have Tried Three Different Brands of Tyre - One Top Shelf Brand - The WildPeak Out Performed in most Weather Conditions - Excelled in Snow & Sludge in our Snowy Mountains. The Xtra Rugged Side Wall Has Saved Our Bacon a Few Times - coming in contact with branches sticking out low down and scraped along the side wall - was sure it had ripped open - but survived - my overall view is good to great performance. It would be great to do a breaking comparison with AT Tyre's in different conditions - and how they handle - thanks for your advice - Ernie -
The reason they have the step downs is for 1 save money on the materials, 2 performance testing they test new tires and that will give them a little edge when testing.
Got a set of Falken’s on my ‘95 Chevy K1500 (LT245/70/r16) not sure how many miles are on them, but I got them right when they were released. Don’t drive that truck a lot, but when I do, road noise isn’t a problem.
Plus, just yesterday (2/17/22) I put a set of them on my 2000 Dodge Durango SLT (31/10.5/r15) I drive that truck more than the Chevy. Mainly Hwy miles, but I chose them because I knew what to expect with the Falken’s already. I recommend them whenever I can
Running the falkens on my 19 Ram Cummins…. I’m coming in at just under 10,000 lbs. And I’ll never run another tire. I’m right at 50k miles and they still look good and perform great. I did rotate regularly. We are off road bi weekly, sand, mud, snow, ash, clay…. Only thing I’ve been stuck in is knee deep snow. Haha but yeah, regular snow driving it’s kinda comical how much traction I get with them. Now being a Cummins and having a platform and totes on top, I hear engine and wind well over tires. I’d say they are silent. I just went out and measured, and I have .5” of tread left!
Falken all day everyday! It's the best tire I've ever owned and has proven itself over and over again. My use case: 1997 Land Cruiser 80 3x locked, living in Minnesota and have had these for over 4 years. Traveled to the mountains and deserts many many times so there's the highway miles getting to and back from the destinations. Over multiple alpine loop passes in Colorado, mountains in Montana, Utah, Idaho, Wyoming, South Dakota, etc .. the sharp volcanic rock strewn deserts of the southwest and west, snow covered roads in Wisconsin and Minnesota...I could go on and on. These tires have taken me in my Land Cruiser everywhere and in all conditions and not a single problem and amazingly there is still so much tread on them that even though I would like they a new set, there's absolutely no reason why I should yet. They have been aired down to low pressures with no gouging or damage. And finally even after all of this they have remained a very very quiet tire as much so as when they were new.

Picked the Falken because the truck is my wife’s daily that we use as a weekend warrior. Had to be quiet, comfortable, decent off road, 3PMS rated, and (most important of all 😂) look good. The Falken did not disappoint. If I didn’t tell you, you would think the truck was on the stock all seasons when on road (or maybe better in the rain!)

When I compared the weight of Toyo Open Country A/T III (LT285/60R20) (56lbs) to the Falken Wild Peak AT3 (LT285/60R20) (65.5lbs), the Falken Wild Peak AT3 are 9.5lbs heavier per tire.
It was mentioned in the review, the weights, "Falcons were lighter".
The Falcons were 5-10lbs heavier compared to the Toyo AT3, depending upon the tire size.
That's a massive difference. Are you sure they both have the same load rating?

At3 are extremely quiet even at highway speeds. Love them, never had wildpeaks but would never trade in my at3
I've personally owned both on 2 different Toyota Tacomas. The Toyos lasted longer. I rotated all the tires every oil change . I'm in north eastern PA. Both tires were awesome in the snow. Sometimes I didn't even need to use 4x4 high. When I had weight in the bed or when I wasn't on steep inclines. I'll be buying another set of one of these for my tundra. I may try the Falkens out again. Looks to be about $100 cheaper right now for a set of 4. I'll be picking up in October so we'll see.
Falkens are not a bad option! I believe the road noise on them is a bit better than the Toyo's but I could be wrong! When you are ready in October just shoot us a message or give us a call!

I’ve been hearing a lot of people praising the Falken AT3Ws since we’ve gotten snow. Surprisingly hearing a lot of complaints about the BFG KO2s slipping and poor performance in the snow.
not surprisingly... its fact. ko2 are inconsistent in the snow, and unpredictable on ice.
Not any Sipes or enough rubber 2 grip rd no saprize a few years they changed composition 2 harder rubber b4 much better tire winter so far I love my h08 toyo amazing rubber unlovable in gravel great mud tire very stable w heavy loads 10 k so far see no wear yet not a at toyo guy basic at not great 4 much do all 1/2 azz m55 m606 ht2 never had a flat on a m 55 or a puncture 300 k miles of wearing them = about 4 sets most was shitty dirt shale rds with 2 much weight problems are not cheap 420 each 235 85 16 suck in snow and once center gone worthless tires bullet proof great abuse tire

The falken corner roll is out of control. And almost literally .
Not sure about the tread or traction yet but the side roll corner roll on the falken vs the bf . Bf is way better .

275/60R20 on 4x4 2017 f150. Have been running them since 2018 and a little under 30k now at 100k on the truck so thats right 70k on them. Mostly highway but it has been on snow ice dirt and gravel some too just not often. Still enough life in them to make it to spring. So as far as wear I can't complain a bit. When I bought them they were only $800 for the set too. Someone else said they are hard to balance and I can agree there. They are prone to vibration but nothing a good tire shop can't fix, in fact these helped me find a good shop since I took it to several others until finally getting it resolved. This size is 4ply BTW. Had a bigger 10ply set on my 250 and it was way worse but that is an extremely heavy tire. If they were still priced hundreds less than toyo I'd say these win all day. Now that they compare in price I can't say as I've never had any toyo tires.

Ive got the toyo AT3 on my 06 dodge 2500 diesel and they are great, 54 thousand miles and still have good tread. There stiff, i run 45 psi in the front n 40 in the rear for even ware, unless im towing my. There great on wet road and snow, really like um
I have the WildPeak AT3W on My 3500 Ram in 35s. Outstanding Snow and Ice traction and a very smooth ride, I Love the Performance. I used to have the Toyo AT3 on my Chevy 2500 and hated them. No and I mean No wet weather traction.

Live in Alaska and have ran the WildPeak AT3 265/70/R17 for two years now on a Ram 1500 on the mud and rivers and beaches and through the winter they suck do suck on ice but Will get you through everything else no problem even Alaskan blizzards

Running 37x12.5x18 on my super duty. Can say enough good things about this tire. Best tires I’ve had for daily work driving/towing on and off road.

I went with the Toyo AT3. Mainly because in the size I wanted, they're 10 pounds lighter per tire than the Falkens. That's crazy! That extra weight would have just further degraded my mpg and affected performance. I also trust the Toyo name. I run them on a GMC Sierra AT4 w/ 6.2L. They're extremely quiet and comfortable on the highway. I live in lower AL, so it rains all the time, and traction in the wet has been very good. I don't offroad these tires, so I don't need to worry about sidewall bite, only highway performance and they shine in that capacity.
Yeah have the AT3WA on my pickup and they drop MPG by 3-8% depending on circumstances compared to touring tyres and you do notice they are heavy tyres when getting moving and stopping.
However they do perform convincingly in a range of environments while still being well mannered on the road.

@Acc1 Tester wholeheartedly. They don't wear down quickly, and performance hasn't degraded in the least bit for me. It's a very quiet A/T tire and grips well during hard acceleration.

@Acc1 Tester I rotate every oil change and all tread depths are exactly the same. I haven't had an alignment yet as my truck only has 23,700 miles.

I just put a set of Wildpeak AT3Ws (275/65R18) on a 2016 4Runner SR5 replacing a set of highway LT tires (Michelin Defender LTX). I was worried the AT tires would impact road noise, handling, ride, braking, but in just a couple days of driving on dry pavement (city and freeway), I have not noticed any increase in road noise or decrease in dry pavement performance. I'll be heading up to the Sierras in a couple weeks, so I'll see how the wet and ice/snow performance is. So far, I'm impressed with these Wildpeaks.
BTW, for folks who have trucks that stick mostly to pavement, I can't recommend those Michelins highly enough. They are the best riding, handling, braking in wet and dry pavement conditions IMO, and I've had them on two 4x4s, this T4R and a 2010 Nissan Frontier LE. The Michelins got over 80K miles on the T4R, and I pulled them off with almost 50% of the tread left. I've had two sets on the Frontier. The first set lasted 93K miles before I had to replace them due to a sidewall puncture. The current set has about 25K miles and still look new. My youngest daughter has been using the Frontier as her daily, so she doesn't go offroad.

Have 285/70/17 P metric Toyo AT3’s on my GX470. I live in upstate New York, they’re great in the snow, rain, dry pavement, off-road, and there pretty good in mud for a AT tire. The only complaint I have is the look of the sidewall…if it had more aggressive sidewalls, it’d be the best AT tire out there.
Also they’re made in Japan, so you know the quality is there.
Great to hear. I have a 470 also and I'm considering the same size you're running. We get decent snowfall in N. Ohio. Currently have the Wildpeaks (265/70/17). No real complaints with them. The treadwear isn't what I'd like and they are a bit heavier than the Toyos. Decisions, decisions.
Agreed sidewall is wimpy. I am currently on Nitto Exo Grapplers and they are the meanest looking sidewalls out there. Hard to downgrade to the AT3's from that but I want better snow handling and I believe the AT3's beat the Exo Grapplers in that department. Am now considering the Wildpeaks.
Im running a set of AT3W’S on my 2013 ram 1500 5.7 hemi crew cab 4x4 and the tires are awesome in the mud,rocks,and sand and deep snow and slush but when the snow becomes more packed down and hard the tores don’t seem to grab as good as the bfg all terrain tires or the general grabber at2 tires and my falkens seem to be wearing down quickly but evenly ive only had them for about two or three months and they are starting to hum a little bit almost sounds like when a wheel bearing is going bad but I checked my bearings and there all good lol so I know its the tires

The Toyo AT3 you had there is a Passenger tire, the LT versions have a little less siping and deeper tread. I have the Toyo AT3 in 225/65-17 on our Rx330 and they are wearing well, got just over 7,000 miles and wear is only through that little step down level. Noise level on that Toyo was noticeable brand new, but they have been great in every other category. I had the Falken AT3Ws on a Sequoia in P265/70-17, really did not like them, rode very harsh at 35psi, poor turning traction in snow, and very buzzy in noise, and smelled super bad, made in Thailand. I loved the KO2s I switched to on that same Sequoia, quiet, supple ride, long wearing, decent snow traction.

Had both on my ram. In my opinion i favor the wildpeaks as they are better in snowy/wet conditions and i live in vermont where a solid winter tire is key. The at3s performed well, good tread life, but i believe the tire compound favors a dry environment.

I really ,really like my Toyo open country AT3 SL on my 2020 Toyota Tacoma Pro. This is the best all around Tire I’ve owned great on and off road . On my 2017 I put KO’s which I did not care for ,horrible in the rain ,too heavy and overkill for my driving needs ,on my 2018 I went with ridge grapplers okay tire but not in the wet weather. I feel for my driving needs which are about 98% on the road driving Toyo’s is a Great tire. I live in Texas and I’ve taken these tires off roading to Big Bend state ranch park and also off-road in big bend national park several times with no issues . No problems getting in and out of some gnarly situation’s where lots of big and sharp rocks no problems where everything there either bites you pokes you or sticks you . Hope this helps someone figure it out which tire is best for them.
