Close to an area where you could have tested the sand performance in polished sand that like Aussie bull dust is a very good way to seperate tread patterns effectiveness. May I suggest Sand Hollow rec park. Some mild and not so mild dunes there to drive.
The KO3's are made at the BFG3 Facility in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. BF Goodrich is owned by Michelin and all BFG tyre's are held to the highest standard right along with all Michelin tyre's! The BFG3 facility still uses the hard working people in the vicinity of Tuscaloosa to HAND build each tyre, each step of the way! Every step is hand inspected by specifically trained quality personnel! All the way from the mixing facility, to the final inspection before it leaves the plant! Quality is at its best before any part, step, or material is sent to the next, to be used in the hands on process of assembling these tires! It is actually a really neat process to observe in order to create just one of these tyre's. Enjoyed the review! Have a great day!
Hi ! Can you please make a video explaining the dangers of using OLD like +10yrs old tyres . I'm calling this out because here in belgium you can PASS MOT with 10-20 years old tyres if they are not worn. So now we are seeing peope buying old second hand tyres just to pass MOT in belgium.. people buy these cars and have NO IDEA they are in an accident waiting to happen. i have an anecdote about that personally if you are interested. good video's and keep up the good work !
Looking forward to the objective testing, especially wet and snow! Great intro and general impression feedback; hopefully the wait won't be too long! This is my favorite tire review channel; thanks for the efforts!
This is the battle of the titans, I was hoping you might pit these tires against each other, you're the man. You rock. Thanks for your in-depth tire reviews!!!
Literally have two Jeeps out in my driveway, one with the BFG & one with the Falkens, and both with about 5000 miles (8000km) on the set of tires. Every little detail of your review was exactly what I experience and feel. And, the vanity part of the raised white letters is another “amen.” I will say that the Falkens have balanced a little better with less weights, though. When you get up to the 315/70R17 size, though, the popularity of the BFG on the Ford Raptor for so many years does make it an easier tire to get a replacement for (in the U.S.). But when you can buy 5 Falkens for the price of 4 BFG, that is moot point. The wet traction and price will probably have me replacing with the Falkens when it is necessary in the future.
I'm shopping for the 315s and I haven't seen the price difference to the point you can get 5 Falkens for the price of 4 K03s. What is really going to push the 315 size market is the Sasquatch Broncos.
Any feedback or advice on whether or not one tire is better on gas mileage than the other? I understand that the wild peak four is quite a bit heavier. Thank you in advance.
@@dominic6283 not bad; the ATW4 seems to be louder than the ATW3s, but i drove an F150 with the 3s and have a Ram with the 4s- so maybe the truck -- or that fact that is has been a year in between?
My Tacoma has been wearing KO3'S since Thanksgiving. So far, I'm pleased. They have performed great on snow and ice. The highway feel is quiet and smooth.
I really wanted the KO3 for the Tundra after liking the KO2 on a 4Runner I had. Was told by the shop today that they haven’t released the 35x12.5r18 KO3s. Super bummed. Looking at AT4W now but really wish I could get the KO3. Sucks that it takes so long to roll new sizes out.
Standard load AT4Ws on my Xterra. They ride really nicely on road, with great grip in wet so far. Amazingly quiet even at highway speeds. 100 mile gravel trip with some 4x4 mandatory sections and they felt and performed great. Traction through bumpy corners stood out to me, interesting to see you mentioned that here. I get a lot of rain so I think they will be great tires for me.
Thanks for this review. I came to UA-cam looking for a comparison of these exact two tires. Not only did I get that but I got a video testing them exactly where I live and drive. Like a review made just for me. Thanks man, you are too good to me.
Are they noisy? I have the ridge grapplers and they good on my truck but I’m thinking to go bigger to 35s and between the nitto reccon grapplers am the tko3
I was just in salt lake this weekend for a concert, I was surprised to hear you live there. I'm about 2 hours north in Idaho. Love your videos, I'm a tire nerd as well
Good review!. I live fairly close to you in Elko, NV and just fitted the 285/75/16 Falkens to my '97 F250 diesel 4X4 last week. Replaced Michelins. Very quiet now. They were much less expensive than the BFGs. These are my 3rd set of various Falkens I have bought, and they sold me on the brands quality. I have 8 year old BFGs on my Jeep and they are great. So far, I am real happy I got the AT4Ws, especially for the price.
@@StephenShreds I had a slight rub only when carrying a big passenger, so I put washers on the bumper bolts. No lift, stock Alcoas. Took them on some nasty trails last month and they were really impressive.
@@StephenShreds Any day now. We've had flurries, supposed to be 10 degrees tonight. My girlfriend has the Falken AT Trails on her Honda Pilot and it turned it into a little snow machine, one reason I went with the AT4s. I'll let you know.
Your fans in the UK will be most interested in how they perform in the wet, mud and at around freezing! Having run both Wildpeak AT3 and the KO2 over several years, I found the Falken far better in the wet and also in the snow. The Falken gave me greater security all round - I even fitted then in my SDV8 Range Rover! Looking forward to an objective test. Thanks.
I have over 100000 km on my at3w 265 70 16 and loved them fantastic in the wet About to replace them with at4w in 265 75 16 on my 1999 diesel Land Cruiser prado Cheers from New Zealand
@@thatcanadianguy3964 my experience matched. The at3w was a better winter tire than the ko2. I went with the at4w for my new Jeep for this reason. I can't wait to see the winter performance tests.
put some 265/70R17 KO3s on my 2012 F150 XLT through Costco's tire service along with some of their Velox wheels a few months ago. Combo looks amazing and I agree 100% about the whitewall lettering, it looks amazing! Bought the truck used from a mechanic who lived at a military base and he had previously put on some Michelin A/T tires, unsure what type, but they were a bit rough and very noisy. When I switched to the KO3s I was shocked by how quiet they were in comparison and how much smoother my ride was. Also, despite being slightly larger than my previous tires in terms of width and such they didn't seem to affect my MPG at all which was also great. Overall very happy with them so far!
@@Icutmetal Correct, but I believe he stated in the video that he thought the KO2 was better than the AT3W, in snow, in his experience. I was simply pointing out that my experience with the two, was the opposite.
This is the experience I’ve had as well (although on different vehicles, Jeep xj -BFG Toyota Tacoma - Falken) I have also heard the at4w is not quite as good as the 3w in the snow, due to the harder compound which was needed for the higher mileage warranty. I still think the at4w is going to be great in the snow and I will be getting a set in the next couple of weeks.
I’ve never driven on the Falkens but I’ve had the KO2s on my F150 for the past 4 winters in Ontario and I’ve been super impressed. If the KO3s are supposed to be better in snow than the KO2s then they will definitely be my next choice.
After putting on 100,000 miles on my BFG K02 10 ply, I went with the Falken Wildpeak R/T. I was massively impressed that it lasted than long, no issues with the tire. I had some nail puncture going offroad visiting old mines in Colorado but it sealed up well and never had to change a flat. Snow traction was ok, but did struggle in the slush.
Amazing comparison as usual! Haven’t tried either of the new tires yet, but in the past I’ve always liked running the KO2’s here in Colorado because off road and in snow they are tough to beat! Thx for all you work on this. That Cayenne sounds badass!
Impressive showing by Falken/Sumitomo. Coming in and doing so well against a titan like BFG isn't a small feat. I'll be looking forward to snow data. If you can throw in a dedicated snow as well that would be a great data point
In Australia the Falkens are about $100 cheaper per tyre..I’ve had my AT3’s for 100,000km across 2 different utes and they still have a tiny bit left in them, easily the best AT Tyre I’ve had and very good on road..
My new set was so junk I binned the 3 that didn't blow... 1 blow side on seal road only 300kms. They simply couldn't be balanced Not the rims the new set was fine.... the company would pay for replacement and blamed on the rims... yet proved that wrong with new set and still refused...
I'm excited to see how these compare against the Nokian Outpost nAT. I've been waiting for some sort of a good comparison review on the Nokian outposts before winter, but I think I'm just going to have to bite the bullet and risk it. As someone from Wisconsin it'll be nice to get something that is good in winter and I hope they are as they seemed good in your review of them
They use them up in Whistler for the maintenance vehicles, they guys I rode with weren't that impressed. When the snow arrives and gets deep enough to be an issue, chains are mandatory to drive up the ski hill until snowmachines are used.
The snow comments are interesting. For me it’s been the opposite. I love the KO2s for dry roads, gravel, and rock. I love the Wildpeaks for wet, snow, and sand. It’ll be a while before I need new tires but I’m leaning towards KO3’s.
Thank you for an honest review. I'm in the market, and have been doing as much research as possible. At the end of the day, I'm going to have to roll with the KO3 's. I know the tread life is said to be less, but I'll pay the few extra dollars to support American workers and industry. Thank you for pointing that out in your video. Buy American 🇺🇸 !!!
Great video. I’m in the market and shopping and came across this vido. Totally covered all of my concerns and shopping points. Especially liked your personal choice decision process. I wavered at every sentence but your weather assessment got me. A+ video. Totally and thankfully appreciate it. Even your sponsor onX.
What would be really useful is some objective testing that includes tires at different lowered pressures. I'd like to see which tires conform to obstacles best and at what PSI and almost nobody is doing this type of testing except for one-off videos showing the importance of airing down. I'd like to see a standard load on different tires by make, model, and size (such as the difference between a 35" with a 15" rim, 17" rim, 18", etc) and how those deform around a consistent obstacle like a 4x4 timber.
Very helpful review - and not the result I would have expected based on my experience with the previous generations! If the K03 doesn't ramp up noise pretty quickly with wear like the K02 did, this will be a killer tire.
BTW, if you value the color of your whitewalls out, make sure to buy Detail King Tire and Whitewall cleaner. The stuff really gets those white letters to look like new with about 30 seconds of your time (no joke. The stuff works great and fast). I am rocking the BFG KO3 on my Colorado and absolutely love them. They are quiet, they were amazing in the rain so far. Can't wait to try them in this Utah snow in the coming months. I am thinking of putting the Falken on my wife's SUV when she needs tires to compare the two directly but feel I won't go wrong with either choice
@@andrewkennedy9704 transfer case is made of butter, the air suspension leaked and is very difficult to replace, hence being on coilovers now, which also suck and the valve covers bleed oil constantly. Also no low range box in gen 2
@@tyrereviews ah. The reason I asked is for the fact I'm looking at getting one and gen 1s are hard to find here that are not beat to an inch of death. Gen2s like yours are more available. I did know about the t-case and air suspension issues so I would find one without the air. Best of luck with yours. I do still like it tho. Shame you're not too keen on it.
Thank you for the great tire reviews! I have the Falken Wildpeak AT3W on my Tacoma right now. While overall I'm mostly satisfied with the Falken, I won't be replacing them with the AT4W when time comes. Because of my work, I park my tacoma for days at the time in the garage without driving it. When I come back 4 to 7 days later, my tire have developed a flat spot. And for the first 10 to 15 minutes of driving, it's like I'm driving on out of round tires. It creates enough vibrations in the stearing and through the cab to be annoying. After the tires warm up from driving, it's smooth again. 60% paved road / 40% gravel and snow in the winter. Except for my flat spot problem, they do what they are supposed to be doing, on the noisier side.
@@outfitr9703 The Toyo open country at3 is like that. It was fine driving through snow and ice, but when you needed to stop suddenly, it took for ever.
14:15 - I agree. I live in the Utah mountains and my experience with the snow performance aligns. The KO2 (which my neighbor had) was better than the AT3W (which I had). The AT3W was fine under straightline acceleration and braking, but the lateral grip and handling was considerably worse. I'm really curious if the new tread patterns continue that trend or improve the handling of the Falken.
I'm from Idaho and recent transplant to WA. I've found the AT3W significantly out performing KO2 in the snow, and that seems to be the trend from others as well. Quite surprised you found the KO2's better
I also agree the at3w is better than the ko2 in the snow. I went with the at4ws for this reason, but it appears the released ko3 has better siping than the early models. I can't wait to see the comparisons come winter!
I think the type of snow (powder vs wet/slush/ice) is key to what’s going on here with the majority saying the AT3W is better in the snow, and some finding the KO’s better. This actually aligns with the KO’s being better in the sand and AT3W’s being better in the wet.
Throw the Nokian Outpost nAT in with these Edit- commented before you even mentioned them lol. Getting Nokian's in SL rating for lower weight 285/70r17 for my 2 door JK. Mostly highway/DD but work in Ohio and have a lot of cold rain/slush with the occasional snow storm.
I bought the Falken Wildpeak A/T4W 265/70/R17 115 SL. I have a 4Runner. I had KO2's on before. I wanted the KO3's but they are not out in my size yet.The KO's are a lighter tire, but the size Wildpeak I purchased are only 2.2 lbs heavier. The comfort is better than the KO2, also much quieter. I did not lose any MPG, may have actually gained a bit. Off-road? Fine so far, and defiantly better in the rain than the KO2.
this comment is pulling into an AT4 purchase. Curious about how they would do on moderate and a higher trails as well as snow, that would seal the deal.
I always loved BFG's but I have had so many issues with balancing on the KO2'S that I recently moved back over to TOYO. This being said I do have my eyes on the Falkens for the next set, I am currently running them on my 6X6 Pinzgauer 712M and I'm liking them. I'll watch how the feedback is on the KO3's moving forward as well. Thanks for the comprehensive and thorough review
I am torn between the two of these. I have never watched videos about tires when I was younger, now I am driving roughly 100 miles a day and need tires for my 15 Sierra and both of these I was looking at strongly. I am torn between them due to snow in my area if we get any this year with the longer drive now. This is making it tougher. Great video comparing the two tires
While I have offroad aspirations, the truth is that my vehicles are pavement pounders, so the highway comparison was welcome! I had KO2's on a previous truck, and liked them quite a bit but found them lacking in wet. Specifically, crowned 2-lane where puddles collected on the right side, they tried to throw me off the road o.0 That truck did have alignment/suspension issues, so maybe they didn't get the best trial from me. But I will be prioritizing on-road, and will be looking at Load Range A/B or C offerings for my current truck, which is highly unlikely to tow.
Just purchased the HD AT4W's for my Ram 2500 ready to see how they perform here in the Rockies during the winter! Had terragrapplers previously and were horrible in the snow. Ended up just parking and using my other vehicle lol. Great video!
Thanks for the video, I have a 2020 Ranger and was looking for a new daily tire to replace my C Load Range K02's... Only Falken is offering a C Load Rating in 265/70R17, and sounds like the difference is so minor that might be an easy decision (and save +$200). Thanks for the great video and reviews !
Was looking for something a little bigger for my small Jeep. I live in CO and I do a lot of driving in the mountains so I really wanted something that could handle the dirt/gravel roads, snow, and regular highway driving. Just purchased a set of the BFGs so I am definitely looking forward to trying them out. Thanks for the in-depth review
My last two sets of tires have been BFG KO2s (06 TJ and 16 JKU.) I decided to get the Falken AT4Ws due to their wet weather performance. The KO2s were just too slippery for my light Jeeps. So far, I'm very happy with the Falkens in rainy conditions. We haven't had any significant snow in NC, but you can bet your happy ass I'll be out there in it with the rest us lunatics.
this is a touch one, I was looking at AT4's for my Xterra but I'm replacing the stock Hankook Dynapro AT tires which have 108k miles on 'em with still decent tread but its time to replace. Live up near Blowing Rock and the Dynapro's handled primo in snow but I am leaning toward the Wildpeak's due to some of the off-road content I've worked on and saw some real world trials with them. I know the BFGs have a great rep.
BFG all the way for me! I've had ko2's for about 9yrs now and done 95,000kms in Aussie conditions and there's still a decent amount of tread left but will need to replace them soon. 1st set of tyres I have actually enjoyed spending money on so pretty dam happy with the results and if the ko3's are an improvement . . . . . Say no more!
Awesome review. Can't wait for snow and wet test. I was running BFG KO2 LT285/70R17 Load C BSW vs Falken Wildpeak AT3W P285/70R17SL. The BFG were slightly lighter. Even though BFG KO2 were slightly expensive I have a safe feeling it been made in USA vs Falken Wildpeak AT3W made in Thailand. Right now I'm running Toyo Open Country AT3 P285/70R17SL. I'm now more tempted to run light weight tires as I feel like driving on stock size tires. New BFG KO3 and Falken Wildpeak AT4W seems to have gain weight alot and that discourages me since Toyo Open Country serves well well with the amount to tire strength I need, but sure not strong as 3ply side wall BFG KO2. I bet its same or improved for KO3. not sure if Falken Wildpeak AT4W have 3ply side wall but Falken Wildpeak AT3W were not available with 3ply side wall. Again, I'm just a average user have no idea. Waiting to learn more about these 2 especially in wet and even more in snow performance.
Yes that is why the new AT4W is a bit heavier in some sizes. There is a new 3 ply sidewall with a 2 ply turn up at the bead. Making it one of the thickest sidewalls for an A/T.
Great review; I have BFGoodrich Trail Terrains from the factory on my truck and I'm looking to upgrade to KO3s..... after the OEM tires wear out, which might be a while!
Really good video mate, I'm a big offroad guy did think your objective A/T group test was a little poor, mainly due to the strange sample of tyres. Would love to see more of this ilk, particularly with the Toyo AT3 & General Grabber.
I went from K02 to AT3W. Best decision ever. Now I don't like the way the AT4W looks, and the K03 looks like it can hook up in the rain now. Unless find a nice set of AT3Ws in new condition, or I'll get the new K03s
I got the AT4s on my 4Runner. Very smooth and quiet on road. Wet traction is amazing. Have done some rugged gravel backroads, nothing but good experience. I was leaning to the KO3s at first but the wet traction sold me on the AT4s. 60000 mile warranty was a big plus too. Both are great tires 🤘🏼
@@4RunnerSteve 265/70/17 Honestly I wasn't expecting how quiet and smooth they are. and also here in central Texas it gets REALLY hot and these tires have some kind of upgraded polymer and heat diffusing features which make them last longer in brutal heat. Which was another plus. they are a perfect blend of "aggressive" look and performance with the traction and handling of an all season type tire. I love them
Having tried both the KO2 and the AT3W my anecdotal experience has been that the AT3W won out on both snowy conditions and wet conditions vs the KO2. That being said I prioritize road mannerisms for my AT tire so I'll probably be trying a set of the KO3s as I don't like the design decisions Falken went with the AT4Ws making them heavier than the prior gen and more geared towards towing.
@@trdpro2grfks Yes, and I like that. My vehicle spends 95% of it's operating time on pavement, I don't want to try and optimize for the 5% it doesn't.
Finally! As you know, Jon, I’ve been waiting for this test since you soft all terrain test! Thanks, as usual, very helpful. However, given how closely matched they are, the decision, for me, will pivot on wet road performance, as my Ranger Raptor’s KO2s are terrible, but allegedly, BFG have put a lot of effort into improving this aspect of the KO3. We shall see! By the way, I think the very open shoulder tread pattern on the KO3s is likely to be very advantageous in mud.
Hello, personally, and given my area of life in water and stones, the Falken is definitely more suitable than the BF. The Falken perfectly controls my empty vehicle of 2480 kilos.Thank you for your test which is a pleasure to see Ici chez moi c'est le Falken que du bonheur 👍
@@thatcanadianguy3964 everyone raves about the Baja Boss AT in the snow, even more than the AT3W. It’s no dedicated snow/winter tire but it’s probably one of the highest rated tires for snow. Sounds like you have firsthand experience. Can you elaborate and say what you prefer for AT in the snow?
@@chrisridebike8 i have tried both the k03 1 season on ice then next season went witrh aw3w, honestly both great tire but on glare ice the at3w were much better! 30xxxon the bfgs, and 20xxx so far on the at3w! both great predecessors to these tires!
I went the Mickey T Baja Boss. They seem to be a bit more aggressive that these two. The wild peaks are probably the most common tyre here in Australia. They are very good value for what you get. The Mickey T's were a lot more expensive here.
Jonathan, I like the offroading tire reviews even though I haven't offloaded in about 10 years. Thanks for posting! I'd also like to ask if you can do some videos that cover multiple categories of tires. For example DWS 06+ vs the Pilot Sport 4 or Indy Firehawk. I think a lot of people cross shop these because they aren't sure if there's enough performance gain to justify giving up all season capabilities.
I have the Falken Wildpeak Trail on my Highlander and I just adore them. The new ATW4 is 4lbs heaver and $1 more a tire in my size. I do alot of light fire road stuff with occasional proper offroad trail stuff and never felt the need for more. I think the new ATW4 is more suited for larger, heavier applications (Sequoia, 4Runners, etc) that are really going to punish them offroad.
I’ve had Falken Wildpeak AT3W 275/70R18 on my 2015 F150 for 72,826 miles (6 yrs) and they still have decent tread left. Think I’m going to order 4 more AT3Ws again cause I don’t have any complaints with them. I have never towed with these tires so I think that’s why they have lasted so long, even tread wear w normal tire rotations every 10,000 miles or so. Good tires!
Not sure if this is correct but my tire shop just told me Falken is discontinuing the AT3W. Can anybody confirm? Might be bad if you can’t replace one down the road?
I’ve been running Falkens for 6 years on my FJ in the NE. They are fantastic ……. but don’t kid yourselves. There are no replacement for a dedicated snow tire. I use them to get me through light snow through December which helps save my ware and tear on the snows. From January to March, its snow tires all the way.
hi legend, I have a dilemma about buying new tires for my vehicle. It is a Ford Kuga 4x4, size 235/45 R19. Now I have an offer Michelin xice end snow dot 21, and Hankook winter icept 3 dot 24. Both of them are new, only the Michelins have been there for 3 years. I live in a mountainous area with a lot of ice and snow, plus big hills, really big. The price is the same. Thank you
Currently have AT3Ws on a 2020 Wrangler Rubicon and they will need to be replaced next summer. I have the K03s on a '98 4Runner. Both are OK in snow when compared to the Blizzaks I run on an Audi Q7 but don't want to run dedicated snow tires. I live in Utah as well and looking forward to the snow comparison! Love the channel BTW!
I’d love to see the Nitto Recon grapplers as part of the objective testing too. Found they were quieter than the ko2 for road performance and so far have had better on road grip at least in my experience.
I love the videos and all the reviews that you do, but is there a possibility that you can do reviews of tires when they’re half worn? As you know, tread pattern evolve as tires wears down which is going to give it different properties for all driving aspects encountered. Understandably, this would be fairly expensive so I would understand the hesitation. Thank you
As you correctly pointed out, cost is the issue. You have to wear the tires in the same way to be fair, which means a convoy, which means 30k miles driven on each set. It's way too expensive currently. There's work being done with machine wear but it doesn't align fully with road wear yet.
Good video! I am leaning KO3's for my 2023 Colorado Trailboss before the snow falls in Minnesota. The current Goodyear Territory MT's are not triple peak rated and on the loud side for only have 5k on them.
I do a lot of gravel road everyday because I work in windfarms and 15 years ago I only went for BFG before the K02 launched. It was basically the only answer to our problem, but since the K02s I started testing another tires and a new world open up! Nowadays its hard to justify the 200€+ that they ask for the K02s, I think the Falken AT3W are much better value. We don't have the AT4W in Portugal yet and K03 will be on sale probably in late 2025...
What? The ATW3 absolutely trounced the KO2 in both wet and snow. I can't recall ever hearing the KO2 was better at snow, at least not anywhere here in the PNW
I just bought the KO3’s on my 2019 1500 Silverado to replace the factory goodyear duratrac. So happy so far especially the road noise. Have been great off-road so far but let’s see how the do getting firewood in the fall (mud-snow) and a cold icy Wyoming winter. Hopefully they will perform as well as the KO2s I have on my old truck.
@@gregdavis3723 Not so, the oem duratracs do not have the 3peak symbol on them? They should but they don’t? I don’t know if it is a cheaper version but they are not as good as my old KO2s. We live in a cold (average high of 15 in January) so we deal with compacted snow (ice) most of the winter vs slushy snow. The compound on the KO3 are supposed to have a higher silica content and it has much better siping than the duratrac, which should translate into better ice traction. Hopefully!?
Agreed, however in the past 3-4 years I've spoken to almost every major offroad tire manufacturer and the consensus is, which matches my experience, mud testing within the same category is almost pointless as you can do the test 10 times and get 10 different results. Comparing different segments (such as AT vs MT vs RT vs AS) works ok.
@@0HOON0 if you go back through my videos you'll find an AT vs MT vs HT video, and you'll see the mud pit and Continental. It's the best I've ever used and you end up doing 20 traction pulls per set but even then the data is still not as repeatable as I'd like. I'm sure there are loads of people who would happily drive through a random mud puddle a few times and speak like their results are 100% fact but the reality is tire testing is freaking difficult.
I agree. I had KO2's on my Ram, and they were very slippery on wet road conditions. I now have a Tundra with stock AT3's, and they are great. I feel safe driving with my family on wet road conditions. Although I do prefer the look of the KO3's better, I would probably buy the AT4's just to be safe
I’ve never been impressed with the KO2’s consistency over mileage and age. Hopefully the KO3 is better. I’ve had very good luck with Wildpeaks and Duratracs, both the original and the new RT. I currently have the Duratrac RT and it performs fantastic in everything I’ve put it through, including snow. But it does likely have more noise than the KO3 and Wildpeak.
Great review! I’m looking to change my stock Bridgestone Duelers to the BFG KO2 or the new KO3 on my new 2024 Toyota 4Runner. I live in the Pacific Northwest but after seeing your review I’m thinking about the Falken Wildpeak because of the rain here. But as you mentioned, KO3 has the raised white letters, which would look better on my 4Runner in Underground color.
For me after owning KO2, Cooper and Falkens, the AT4 is the one I like the best. I tow heavy loads and travel in a lot of snow, mud and off road. Falkens last longer and the tread clean out better. I thought the BFGs were great until I tried a Cooper and now the Falken tires. I only drive 3/4 ton 4x4 diesel trucks.
The last set of BFG's I had were KO1's and they hydrolocked like crazy. These KO3's look much better. I just replaced a set of GY Wrangler A/T's with 10ply Falken A/T4W. Huge difference! dry and wet traction is way better. I'm peeling up crosswalk paint from a standstill.
I really enjoy your reviews, especially when you can tell us details that manufacturers really don’t share or advertise. Will you be doing a review on the Nokian Outpost nAT. I believe you were running them on a vehicle of yours for a long test review? Maybe you did do a video, and I missed it?
@@tyrereviews Would you be able to dig into the availability of Nokian tires? I hear they are hard to get, or not available in the USA because of the war going on over seas. I didn’t know how true that might be?
@@catlinpondel2487 it is true, Nokian lost a lot of production in their russian factories which are now owned by russia. Tires like the nAT are made in the US so should be fine, and the R5 is made in Finland but the rest of the products are struggling.
Thanks for this comparison/review! I just wish you’d talked about how these compare to the Nokian nAT (since it sounds like you have fresh experience with these). I’m pretty set on the nAT for my next set of tires on my Rivian R1T, but wonder how it stacks up to these two.
I had the nokians on a different wheel size which means I couldn't directly compare. My gut says they're very close, a little more noise from the nokians
@@tyrereviews thanks for the reply! It’s probably hard for you to say, but would you say the nAT is likely the best winter performer of the three? If you have a chance some time, an “AT and AS for your EV truck/SUV” could be an interesting video/video series since factors like efficiency (rolling resistance/aero) and road noise are both more apparent and higher priorities when considering tires for EVs, yet with a vehicle like the Rivian, off-road capability is also desired by many. Durability is also put too the test with such high weights and torque figures. We EV drivers-and specifically Rivian owners-would certainly appreciate your insights and thorough testing abilities! I would think it would be interesting content for others as well. Thanks for all the work you put into your channel, you really have the best tire review channel I’ve come across-I’ve learned a lot through your videos.
@@sidhammer9461 Really hard to say. I would be confident saying it will beat the AT4W in winter, the ko3 has the potential to be close. I hope to test at the start of feb

Close to an area where you could have tested the sand performance in polished sand that like Aussie bull dust is a very good way to seperate tread patterns effectiveness. May I suggest Sand Hollow rec park. Some mild and not so mild dunes there to drive.
Wish we had OnX in Aus
Hello I want to ask what is your opinion about Bridgestone Dueler at/002 on snow mud rain ??
I've got the AT4W's and live in Florida. I can tell you they handle excellent in the rain.
I'm in Louisiana and that's what I need. These Nitto Terra Grapplers are terrible in the rain.
Literally the comment I needed to see. I’m in FL and trying to decide what tires to go with lol
@@Crickle12 I’m happy with them! Decent in the snow and ice also, last week lol.
@ after watching some more videos last night I believe they’ll be the choice I go with!
@ I think you will be pleased.
Do you think the KO3s are a little more comfortable
Which tire is quieter on road?
Any feedback or advice on whether or not one tire is better on gas mileage than the other? I understand that the wild peak four is quite a bit heavier. Thank you in advance.
I’ve priced Falken vs BFG multiple times and BFG is always cheaper so not sure where you get yours.
running AT4Ws now on my Ram1500, very happy with them -- had 2 sets of ATW3s before -- got over 70,000 miles on each of them on an F150
Do you mind sharing a photo? Looking to get the same for my ram. Are they loud? Have you ever had road tires on before?
Are the Falkens load on the highway?
I'm running AT3's at the moment and I've put them through some torture, holding up beautifully 👌, wouldn't hesitate putting AT4's on next
I just got the KO3 fitted to my work truck, really like them so far 🤘
Glad you like them, please get a review on www.tire-reviews.com/Tire/BFGoodrich/All-Terrain-TA-KO3.htm
Are they noisy? I have the ridge grapplers and they good on my truck but I’m thinking to go bigger to 35s and between the nitto reccon grapplers am the tko3
@@idontcaresapo8233no they are pretty quiet. My Ram 2500 and went from stock highway tires to KO3. Barely hear a difference. I love them
Did you get the 6 ply or 10 ply? Just curious if 10 ply is noticeably rougher handling as some people have mentioned
I was just in salt lake this weekend for a concert, I was surprised to hear you live there. I'm about 2 hours north in Idaho. Love your videos, I'm a tire nerd as well
My inlaws are in idaho falls!
Did you have any rub? Or do you have a lift?
@@StephenShreds I had a slight rub only when carrying a big passenger, so I put washers on the bumper bolts. No lift, stock Alcoas. Took them on some nasty trails last month and they were really impressive.
@ delt with snow yet? I’m thinking of picking up a pair. I’m in Alaska and just blew a Nokian tire a couple days ago
@@StephenShreds Any day now. We've had flurries, supposed to be 10 degrees tonight. My girlfriend has the Falken AT Trails on her Honda Pilot and it turned it into a little snow machine, one reason I went with the AT4s. I'll let you know.
First time seeing someone else from Elko on the Internet, Howdy neighbor.
Thanks.
I have over 100000 km on my at3w 265 70 16 and loved them fantastic in the wet
About to replace them with at4w in 265 75 16 on my 1999 diesel Land Cruiser prado
Cheers from New Zealand
Thanks for a good review. I really hope you are able to do a review in deep snow!
I'm hoping it should happen early next year
Canadian here that ice fishes, had k03s and atw3 on same truck, k03 are ok in summer and at3w way better on ice!
My experience with snow, on both, is that the AT3W was better than the KO2. Both great tires, but I'll take the Falken.
So neither of these tires.
Agreed
Yessss! I love that you included these most popular tires. I may have not searched on your page but I love the very informative videos!
Glad it was helpful!
They simply couldn't be balanced
Not the rims the new set was fine.... the company would pay for replacement and blamed on the rims... yet proved that wrong with new set and still refused...
@@ryansmith7974 did those guys expect the Outposts to perform like chains or dedicated snow tires?
Nokian tires are junk. Buy the Falkens
@@user-pp5or5og4k Lol Nokian makes better tires than Falken any day of the week.

The snow comments are interesting. For me it’s been the opposite. I love the KO2s for dry roads, gravel, and rock. I love the Wildpeaks for wet, snow, and sand. It’ll be a while before I need new tires but I’m leaning towards KO3’s.
Sand is interesting, I didn't try the KO2s in sand but the KO3s def felt a little stronger
I want to. I love buying American. I guess they haven’t released the 35x12.5r18 KO3s yet. I need a new set and it sucks to have to buy something else.

Thank you for this comparison it was just the one I hoped fore :D i personally have the Wild peak AT3Ws going on 70K km still rolling.
I'd like to see a standard load on different tires by make, model, and size (such as the difference between a 35" with a 15" rim, 17" rim, 18", etc) and how those deform around a consistent obstacle like a 4x4 timber.
tinkers garage does a good job of this
Very helpful review - and not the result I would have expected based on my experience with the previous generations! If the K03 doesn't ramp up noise pretty quickly with wear like the K02 did, this will be a killer tire.
I’ve got 55k miles on my K02 and zero noise

Just ordered that same exact tire and size for my 23 tacoma. Extra 1" of lift with no mods.
BTW, if you value the color of your whitewalls out, make sure to buy Detail King Tire and Whitewall cleaner. The stuff really gets those white letters to look like new with about 30 seconds of your time (no joke. The stuff works great and fast).

SO nice to have a subjective review. Specs don’t tell the story of a tire experience. Thanks!
TFL just tested these 2 tires on a wrangler in snow. At 30 mph the Falken took double the distance to stop. DOUBLE!!! I’m sticking with BF.
I saw that but really question their test.
@ what are you questioning? You could see the video. Do you think they were editing things out?
@1tdekany i don't know what they did but no way the falkens took double the distance
@@outfitr9703 The Toyo open country at3 is like that. It was fine driving through snow and ice, but when you needed to stop suddenly, it took for ever.
I didnt like that test considering the tire is made more for a heavy duty truck and not a light wrangler.
Were the vehicles the same?
Also from Utah and the at3w are better in snow than the ko2 . Also rides quieter and smoother
Throw the Nokian Outpost nAT in with these
Edit- commented before you even mentioned them lol.
Long awaited video …worth it..❤️
Can’t wait for snow test ..hope to see them soon
I always loved BFG's but I have had so many issues with balancing on the KO2'S that I recently moved back over to TOYO. This being said I do have my eyes on the Falkens for the next set, I am currently running them on my 6X6 Pinzgauer 712M and I'm liking them. I'll watch how the feedback is on the KO3's moving forward as well. Thanks for the comprehensive and thorough review
My last set of KO2’s are impossible to get balanced properly, I’m just thankful they are almost done. I will be getting something else next.
Once more available, would love to see reviews on other new tires like the Bridgestone AT Ascent, and the Yokohama AT4. Keep up the great work!
Cannot wait for winter testing. I live in SLC as well. I have the cooper rugged trek. AT3W was better winter tire by far than the cooper
Let me know how you find them!
Just put falkens on my 2022 ranger.. a miniscule hum on the road but grips much better than the oem hankooks.
I had KO2s on my old Subaru. They made the car decent in mud, but the dry and wet pavement braking was quite poor.
Sorry to hear. Nonetheless thumbs up for owning a Subie and hope you either still do or are planning to again [own a Subaru].
Be sure to let me know / leave a review on the site when you get that snow
this is a touch one, I was looking at AT4's for my Xterra but I'm replacing the stock Hankook Dynapro AT tires which have 108k miles on 'em with still decent tread but its time to replace.
BFG do seem to last well!
Really good video mate, I'm a big offroad guy did think your objective A/T group test was a little poor, mainly due to the strange sample of tyres. Would love to see more of this ilk, particularly with the Toyo AT3 & General Grabber.
Wasn't the AT3 in that test? But yes I agree, I need to do a big test of the bigger AT stuff. I'm working on it pretty hard
I went from K02 to AT3W. Best decision ever. Now I don't like the way the AT4W looks, and the K03 looks like it can hook up in the rain now.
Unless find a nice set of AT3Ws in new condition, or I'll get the new K03s
Would be interesting to see comparison between KO2 vs KO3, not sure if BFGoodrich would support that or not
Finally, thanks for this thorough review. It definitely settled it for me: K03s for the win. Road noise is key for me.
Both are great tires 🤘🏼
what size did you fit ?
@@4RunnerSteve 265/70/17
Honestly I wasn't expecting how quiet and smooth they are. and also here in central Texas it gets REALLY hot and these tires have some kind of upgraded polymer and heat diffusing features which make them last longer in brutal heat. Which was another plus.
they are a perfect blend of "aggressive" look and performance with the traction and handling of an all season type tire. I love them
@@HP_Tubcraft did you go with the 4ply?
Are you referring to the side wall ? I think mines 3ply but I’m not sure.
I was debating between toyo at3s, falken at4ws, and ko3s. I live in the pnw and if you say they at4ws are good in wet then ill get those
Good comparison. Curious to see your opinion on wet performance of these tires.
Thanks!
Hello, personally, and given my area of life in water and stones, the Falken is definitely more suitable than the BF. The Falken perfectly controls my empty vehicle of 2480 kilos.Thank you for your test which is a pleasure to see
Ici chez moi c'est le Falken que du bonheur 👍
Too bad you couldn’t add the Mickey Thompson Baja Boss AT to the comparison. And maybe the Toyo Open Country AT3
They're on the list!
@@tyrereviewsadd Maxxis razer at too
They don't even compare for a all terrain tho, terrible in the snow
I just put the Falcons on my 2024 Chevy blazer 2.3L 235 / 65 - 18. Amazing 😻
I went the Mickey T Baja Boss. They seem to be a bit more aggressive that these two. The wild peaks are probably the most common tyre here in Australia. They are very good value for what you get. The Mickey T's were a lot more expensive here.
BF Goodrich increased their warranty from 5 to 6 years now for the new ko3, which is great!
I went with the Falken on my 2010 Toyota FJ Cruiser. Better price, great reviews and better tread life. Win win for me.
Agreed, these new mild AT tires are wonderful
Thank you
Do you still have a review in the works for the Nokian outpost?
Thanks for the video. I just purchased the k03s for a 1500 mile road trip. Ive been looking at the at4w to exchange them.
I was thinking the same thing.
I live in the PNW, would the wild peaks be good for an f150?
I just watched a video where the AT4W performed rather poorly in some snow braking and acceleration tests.
ua-cam.com/video/pp0QrccoKqA/v-deo.html
I just bought the KO3’s on my 2019 1500 Silverado to replace the factory goodyear duratrac. So happy so far especially the road noise. Have been great off-road so far but let’s see how the do getting firewood in the fall (mud-snow) and a cold icy Wyoming winter. Hopefully they will perform as well as the KO2s I have on my old truck.
Be sure to let me know / leave a review on the site
For mud and snow, I think you're going to be wishing that you still had the Duratracs.
Hopefully!?
Will you be putting out a video for your long-term opinion onr the Nokian Outpost AT? I'm in Utah as well and would love to hear your opinion of them.
Amazing review. Well done! These are the exact tires I'm thinking for my next set. Leaning Falken 👍🏻
We need mud test) thanks for great work!
Need a standardized, self repairing mud hole at one of the proving grounds. 😂
@@tyrereviews Thanks for the huge effort you put into these tests. I'll check out that comparison.

yes falken! Mosy of the time its wet where we live, falken is the best. Ko2s slip like crazy, safety first, family first.
I agree. I had KO2's on my Ram, and they were very slippery on wet road conditions. I now have a Tundra with stock AT3's, and they are great. I feel safe driving with my family on wet road conditions. Although I do prefer the look of the KO3's better, I would probably buy the AT4's just to be safe
@@andresl6094OEM tire is very different from the same model aftermarket tire
Great review. The Falken will stay quieter over the life of the tire and the performance will last longer as well.
But it does likely have more noise than the KO3 and Wildpeak.
oooo nice, please review them here www.tire-reviews.com/Tire/Goodyear/Wrangler-DuraTrac-RT.htm we need more reviews badly
Going tomorrow to put new shoes on my Wrangler Unlimited - these two are on the short list along with the General Gabber ATX.
I'll make a video in the coming weeks
Great video!!! hope u get to do a wet test on the Ko3s
It's in the plans
Good review, both of these are overdue for a refresh.
You do realize both of these are new models, right?
So when can we purchase official Tyre Reviews t-shirts and hats?
It's on the to do list, but the demand is very low so it's not super high up in priority
