Paul is there anything you can say about this and spleenomegaly. I trust and believe in this diet so much. But I’ve said to eat easily digestable stuff. Like, legumes, beans, lentils, oats. Lean meat like turkey and chicken. AND NO READ MEAT since it has a warming effect, due to my accumulated heat dampness in body. It makes me worse in that sense. I completely changed my diet six months ago based on nationally recommended guidelines, but it only made my health worse. It wasn’t until I read 'The 23 Former Doctor Truths' that I realized doing the opposite of what the government advises can actually make a difference. No wonder the doctor who wrote it left their career-speaking the truth often challenges the system!

Anything the FDA recommends, I now do the opposite. Health and Beauty Mastery by Julian Bannett is a must-read if you want to uncover the shocking realities of the health industry. It opened my eyes, and I’ve completely changed my lifestyle since!
I make a big fruit salad (no added sugar) that I eat with a sprinkle of Maldon Sea Salt, slow cook a brisket or some other roast and this is what I eat. I do eat some rice everyday. I never get headaches, I hike 5 hours three times a week and I have regular bathroom habits. I also eat all kinds of nuts, especially walnuts. It all tastes amazing and I am on no medicines. Thank you Paul. You changed my life.
Long distance runners tend to store more visceral fat too...so a good alternative for those that want to reduce visceral fat is a combination of sprinting and walking intermittently.
Lower bone density means you will be lighter and therefore easier to carry yourself. It all makes sense, body knows what it is doing. I presume same would go for visceral fat? There's got to be a good reason unless it is just plain old overeating of calories.
Paul's diet and lifestyle are obviously in perfect balance with his age and genetic makeup. However, It does not mean that it would apply equally to everyone else. My personal experience is that I have had to decrease my carbs and total calorie intake over the past 5 decades to maintain a body composition of 12%.
Eating 1 ingredient food says a lot. Also this makes eating so simple. A big issue is the public has gotten addicted to fast fake food and Real 1 ingredient food doesn’t taste good anymore. The diet paul shows can’t get any easier. Stop eating out for convenience and entertainment eating. Nothing tastes better to me these days than a bowl of hamburger or a steak and eggs. 3 years ago it was a whopper from Burger King and after I felt like crap and hungry again sooner.
Well said. Yes the more than one ingredient food is so addictive. Big food and big pharma knows this and don't want to disrupt the cash flow. I also think there can be blame placed some on Joe and Jane consumer. Most people simply don't want to change. Change is too much trouble and they know it can cause problems. We are all guilty but trying to bring up health around most people is suicide. Misery loves company. Plus I think for some they take health advice or innocent sharing of what you do as shaming. So sad
Paul is in great shape, how many 47 year old do you see look like that ? You can learn a lot from him and his diet. I switch from carnivore diet to animal based and I still have not chosen which is my favorite. I am still experimenting personally
@@baseballdipper111 it's also worth mentioning that he looked much younger just 4-5 years ago when he was doing carnivore, relative to that many years passing and how more aged he looks in the face is quite a good argument against eating any plant matter at all, let alone eating high-carb with fat.

In 4 months on an animal-based diet, I have gone from 202 lbs to 182 lbs. At about 15 years old, I reached my current height (6ft3in) and was about 170 lbs. In college between ages 18/19 I gained 15 lbs and was at 185. Leaving college at age 22, I was 192. Over the last 10 years I added on about 10 more lbs. Officially the lightest I have been since I was age 18. I don't count calories, eat until I am full and try to buy the highest quality animal based foods within my budget. My average day of eating would be a 40oz fruit protein smoothie (cow milk, banana, frozen strawberry, frozen blueberry, protein powder, collagen powder -all organic/pasteur-raised) and 4 eggs for meal 1. Meal 2 would be 1lb beef and about 6oz of fruit or veggies, usually fruit. Later in the night, a greek yogurt with honey and maybe a little more fruit if I am still hungry.
I’ve been carnivore for a while now and have been contemplating adopting some of your diet habits, mostly I just want to add in a bit of fruit. I’ve actually been hoping you would get one of these scans to prove all the naysayers wrong-thank you!!
Be aware of the ratio of fruit to fat and protein, as you ramp up fruits and perhaps starches just be aware that fat and protein can often dampen our ability to oxidize glucose efficiently. This is not a problem once metabolism regulates but can be while crossing over
Came from carnivore to adding fruit and honey slowly over months to get to maybe around 150 carbs per day. I have higher energy spikes but way more anxiety and mood swings. When doing carnivore I feel very calm and clear but sometimes low energy if not getting enough protein or fat. Not saying one’s better than the other depending on preference. I think cycling on/off is the best for me.
The chances of having fat infiltrate in the liver with only 0.3lbs of total visceral fat are very low. Still sure, if Paul can find a way of having that done, he should do it just for kicks.
Show, don't tell! This is why Paul's worth listening to. I don't see any of these other carnivore, vegan, or other diet proponents sharing their bloodwork or dexa results like this...
Strange take. The dexascan does not tell the whole story at all, just the visceral fat score good but who says this is from meat? There are many other factors to consider when consuming a high animal fat diet.
😂😂Great minds think alike. I had the angry, condescending fat lawyer in mind the second i saw this video in my notification. With all that fat, that anger, lack of sex, autoimmunity, metabolic syndrome, 4-5 shots of the ''safe and effective'', I bet she's not exactly thriving as we speak!😄
The amount of visceral fat does not always correlate with the amount of total fat. A thin person who abuses alcohol, sugar, or processed foods may have a large amount of visceral fat and have an oily liver. Sean O'Mara showed it on MRI scans.
Dear one, Maybe you have some mitigating factors but I’m caring for both my parents with dementia who although they stayed slim, have damaged their minds. I urge you to consider stopping the damage caused by high glocose spikes.

I ALWAYS say you should scale your carbohydrates intake based on your activity level. I def don’t think you should eat the same amount of carbohydrates if you are not as active… but I believe 100-150g of carbohydrates per day should be the minimum for optimal health.
I did this too and it was very interesting. Told me more than Doctors did. My fat is fine but I need to GAIN muscle. Being thin is not great for bone strength.

This is good stuff Dr Saladino. I always appreciate your videos but I do always end up questioning two things with your nutrition suggestions: 1) how much of the results are due to you being a naturally lean person vs the average person 2) how much of your results are due to you being so physically active compared with the average person? In other words, will the average person benefit from eating clean high carbs with light to moderate activity?
What a blessed life to be able to surf 2 hours a day! Many thanks for the information. This "fructose"-thing in the influencer-scene is somewhat mysterious for me. Good evidence against the anti-fruit-front. However, you do not know about the fat content of the liver by Dexa-Scan. You should do an ultrasound at least. A friend of mine performed a fruit-diet for 4 weeks and lost 10 kg of body weight with improved liver-signs towards lesser liver-fat. However, he stopped this diet abruptly because of ekzema which developed.
You don’t need a doctor’s referral for a dexa scan. You can Google where the nearest practitioners are that offer dexa scans near you. @beerman204 we all age, I've been told I look younger after doing animal base and losing 50 pounds. I'm 34. I'm also married with kids, I dont care what diet your on that's going to age you lol 😆
@beerman204 also keto releases stress hormones. You'll lose weight as you burn fat for fuel but glucose oxidation is optimal. I think keto and carnivore are way better than the SAD or vegan
Yes, and that isn't a controversial point, the problem is people assume Paul is telling everyone to eat 300g of carb and 3500kcal a day, he isn't saying that. People need to figure out their own requirement. But you are not a victim to your current "metabolism", you can improve your glucose metabolism, which is crucial for your thyroid health and overall energy metabolism.
Dr. Saladino, I would like to see you do a test (RMR test) that actually measures your basal metabolic rate, and see how that compares to the Harris-Benedict equation used to estimate your basal metabolic rate in this video. It would by eye opening to see how big the disparity is. I surmise that one of the big reasons people have such a hard time using the CICO (calories in/calories out) model for tracking weight loss/ weight gain success is that the Harris-Benedict equation wildly under or over estimates calories burned. That is why you frequently have people bewildered as to why they are not losing weight or why they are incapable of gaining weight when their calorie trackers say they should. This is putting aside the problems inherent in food calorie labeling, which can also be off by a wide margin.
Great Video! I always use your videos to help my clients understand the information more in depth and I’m so grateful you’re posting so often and spreading awareness about a better way to eat and live with proof! Happy Thanksgiving and I can’t wait for the next Notification 💪🏼🥩
i guess eating fruit is only a problem when you eat a lot of other carbs per day as well (bread, noodles, deserts). if you don't overfill your glycogen storage too often, then you are fine. do you have a certain macro distribution throughout the day like more fruits in the morning (to fill the glycogen buffers) and more protein in the evening?
Health is holistic, it's everything from nutrition, to environment, to lifestyle. Sunlight play a big role too, I think science is still learning more about it but I sunlight may be crucial for energy metabolism more than just vitamin D alone.
I took this test last December. Pretty cool info. I had a 3.5 score for bone density but would trade it for your bodyfat numbers any day Paul Great video
Population studies of tribal societies also indicate that eating fruit ( or starchy vegetables) in it's most unprocessed and natural form does not cause any of the diseases or metabolic dysfunctions like obesity of the western world. But yeah i still prefer 80 % meat and fat and the rest fruit.
Not valid studies, because those tribes probably don't have food surplus, and they do a lot of activity. Same as Asians, not being fat on rice because they are poor.
Endurance athletes could have lower bone density due to their body adapting to the environment & the particular stimulus. It could be that the body is evolving in micro measurements gradually overtime due to create more favorable outcomes. Birds have low bone density so they can fly and maybe the body is purposefully getting rid of bone to create a lighter frame so running becomes easier from less energy exertion. Just speculation but very interesting!
Absolutely, I never said we should all consume the same amount of carbohydrates. It should be scaled based on your activity level. But I believe 100-150g of carbohydrates per day should be the minimum for optimal health…

Hey Paul, what do you recommend for DNA testing? Looking to figure out my genetic tendencies for chronic diseases, polymorphisms and such. 23andme is running a sale right now. Are they a reputable source?
You can do it if you want, but they only test for a few popular 'defects'. I won't deny for some people that may be empowering to find out. It's not a holistic approach to solely rely on it and forgetting the bigger picture. Chris Masterjohn have looked at the studies on synergistic heterozygosity which reveal there are somewhere in the order of hundred thousand of genes related to energy metabolism and every individual have several unique mutation of their own that is different from the next person, and the combination of these unique mutations poses a unique challenge for that specific individual. One person may need more biotin while the next may metabolize too much of it. So he suggest it require a whole genomic sequencing and have people like him sort out the data. 23andme do not do whole genome sequencing. You can contact Chris if you want to figure out the whole ordeal, probably will be costly, if he even have time to take up more clients. Otherwise I feel it's much more important to use the Ray Peat bioenergetic approach and improve energy metabolism in general as energy governs everything and improving it would improve the overall system, and carb metabolism and thyroid health plays a big part in this.
Paul, does this really matter? What was your starting microbiome and how's it changed with your diet? You seem to digest like a champ, breathe outside air, have the ability to exercise. Sorry, I follow but haven't been diligent to know your antibiotic history, hence wondering about your microbiome. Also wondering if you've done a liver scan like a FibroScan? Or a whole body scan? TFS your results.
Im about to turn 49. Ive always had a tough time putting on weight even on a standard American diet. I was having other problems. The SAD was leading me to being pre-diabetic, pre-hypertension, joint pain etc. Dont focus on bodyweight so much.
Could you do a test showing the level of inflammation on your diet? ( CRP ) This will be in my opinion a very interesting point to compare fat based pure carnivore and carnivore 2.0
Context of your activity is relevant regarding fruit, honey and visceral fat no? I mean, if you were sedentary do you think the fruit and honey would result in elevated visceral fat?
Very interesting scan results for your nutritional choices. I would have been interesting to compare the differences that might have been to the scan results prior to the modified carnivore diet. You are a leading edge thinker about nutrition Dr. Saladino
The only issue that you haven't addressed is the high deterium issue with fruits/carbs. This is super nuanced and must be evaluated at the level of the mitochondria. Nonetheless, I've been waiting for you to address this for awhile now
I’m going to assume you mean deuterium. & whilst fruits do contain higher deuterium than meats & fats & suspect Dr. Saladino gets enough sunshine & has healthy enough mitochondria that this is not an issue. The entire topic of deuterium is very nuanced and a subject with a lot of contention surrounding it in scientific circles. I’d personally suggest you do more independent research to form your own conclusion at this time because what you’ll find from people speaking on it is extremely varied and I don’t think it is one of Dr. Saladino’s areas of expertise.
Could explain how being a vegan and runner, I developed osteopenia. I’m now carnivore 8 months and my bone density test showed I no longer have osteopenia. My bone density was normal. I started low weights but plan to get a trainer. I’m 62 yrs old
Great video, Paul. Thank you. I like the various follow-up questions you ask her throughout. Only thing I will say is... yes, this may prove that for YOU, personally, incorporating all that honey & the amount of fruits you consume daily seems to NOT be doing harm (visceral fat, elevated insulin etc. ) but I just have to say that you're most likely the minority when it comes to that. Most people don't have that luxury, metabolically speaking. But nevertheless, great video & informative, as usual.
Figured I'd chime in here. In my personal experience, it has more to do with exercise and less to do with diet. Paul spends a significant amount of his waking hours exercising. It may not matter so much what he eats as long as his calories are in a slight deficit and he's getting enough protein. I was on Keto for 2 years and stayed the same weight and body fat % for over a year. I recently changed it up, added 3 days per week of weight exercises, 3 days of cardio and eat about 35% carbs and 35% fats and 30% proteins by calorie. My body fat has dropped and so has my weight. So the keto, paleo, and carnivore might be great if your traveling and can't get to a gym, or if you just want to take a month off from the gym, but other than that it's just a calorie restriction tool. Personally, I have to watch that I don't overdue dairy and coffee/caffeine is a HARD NO for me (kills sleep and digestion for me). Let me know what you think.
I can't exercise hard like you do but I notice if I stick to a 30 minute or more walking schedule it can get me through a weight plateau very nicely so I think your analysis works. I also use fasting to help me get through a plateau or to recover after a cheat with no weight gain. Some exercise helps with weight loss if a person is having trouble losing weight with just diet. In my previous higher carb diet I would exercise regularly and never lost a pound. I was just not gaining. Diet and exercise is always more optimal but I don't think it has to be a lot of exercise if you are eating carnivore or keto or animal based (with the right amount of carbs for the amount of exercise) I still lost a lot of weight without exercise because I was healing my over fatty blood from all the carbs so the water weight and then some fat weight just fell off. I hope I haven't lost too much muscle but that's what the dexa scan is for.
You said that you didn’t think surfing was a very intense workout when reviewing your results, then you said you take a beating with the ocean and skate ramps. So yes, swimming, surfing and water exercise seems like the exercise is easier, but it’s actually more intense than what you think. Also your core is strengthened by trying to balance on an unstable base (water). You’re just conditioned to that exercise so it may seem like it’s easy.
Suspicious, right? Thanks for being here. What do you think about this? ⬇ 🟢 DO ANIMALS DESERVE RIGHTS? Animals are sentient beings with inherent value and the right to live free from human exploitation, including practices like factory farming and slaughter. And while we do have a right to defend ourselves and our homes from being attacked or invaded, our first response should be to try to live peacefully with animals - not harm them. Question: Do you try to follow the golden rule of treating others, even the weak or less intelligent, the way you want to be treated? 🟡ARE ANIMALS OUR SLAVES? We oppose the enslavement of animals for food, clothing, or entertainment; they deserve freedom and autonomy, just like humans. Are you against slavery? 🟠 SHOULD WE ABOLISH SPECIESISM? Just as we fight against racism or sexism, we must challenge speciesism-the belief that human interests automatically outweigh those of other species. Does it really seem right to pet a cat while eating a cow or does something feel wrong about this? 🔴 SHOULD WE HAVE RESPECT FOR OTHER SENTIENT BEINGS? Animals experience complex emotions such as pain, fear, and joy, so treating them as mere commodities is morally indefensible. Cutting a cat or a cow in half is not the same as cutting a carrot in half, wouldn't you agree? 🟣 DO WE HAVE A DUTY TO BE MORALLY CONSISTENCY? Ethical principles like kindness and non-violence should apply universally to all sentient beings, not just humans. If aliens came to earth and were more powerful than us, we would want them to be kind, not cruel, right? So why aren't we kinder to animals on this planet? 🔵 SHOULD WE STRIVE TO END EXPLOITATIVE INDUSTRIES? Modern society doesn't need animal products, so continuing their use solely for convenience or taste perpetuates unnecessary cruelty and exploitation. Since we don't need to hurt others, isn't it our responsibility to help them? 🟢 DO YOU UNDERSTAND DEONTOLOGY AND UTILITARIANISM? Both deontological ethics (duty-based) and utilitarianism (consequence-based) support ethical veganism. Regardless of where we are on this vegan spectrum, it’s our duty to make sure animals’ rights aren’t violated. It’s not about smaller cages - it’s about having NO cages. Do you agree that we should strive to be as vegan as possible in this world? ➡ WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU SUFFER FROM VYSTOPIA? If you’re suffering from vystopia, (the anguish of being vegan in a non-vegan world), and feeling like you’re a victim of veganphobia (bullying towards ethical vegans) sometimes, writing about it can help. Send me a dm with your story about your family and friends for a book I’m writing or, if you like, write about it here for others to see, if you want to share your experiences. 🌱
Why don’t you get an MRI so you can see a true amount of visceral fat? Dexa scans do not show an accurate reading of your visceral fat. Get an MRI and let’s see what it says.
I watched a raw food community get fat from raw meat and fruit. They were doing some gardening and cooking and chores but not being as athletic… so I do think meat plus fruit leads to fat gain if one is not athletic. It is the bear’s perfect program for fat gain before hibernating all winter.
No it's the impaired energy metabolism that leads to fat storage and inability to efficiently turn that fuel into energy. Excess fat consumption block glucose uptake and over reliance on fat oxidation downregulate glucose oxidation. I have explained the Randle Cycle from a better perspective in my reply to the above comment by @MOAB-UT. Polyunsaturated fat is required for hibernation, which is why bear eat nuts and salmon to prepare for hibernation as the PUFA down regulate metabolism and increase fat storage. While existing in very low temperature environment, species may prefer to use energy from PUFA as it stays more in a liquid state. This is why nuts that survival through cold winter have PUFA in it, and salmon lives in cold water and is high in PUFA. The optimal human body temperature is around 98.6*F, at this temperature PUFA become oxidized.
Hello Paul Saladino. Do you know anything about the new Methane reduction feed additive called bovaer? Its going to be used in livestock like cows, and it might get into the meat and milk. Some Side effects like decrease male reproduction.
? could long distance runners’ bodies be actively lowering their weight (as an adaptation to deal with the increased need to transport their bodies over distance), like a trade-off (ie: losing bone weight to have less bulk to transport in order to end up with more energy to do the work the body demands)?
This was a very interesting insight into body composition. I particularly find it intrigue how lenient the standards are for "normal" bodyfat and comparing that standard of normalcy with what the fitness industry deems to be a good bodyfat percentage. The normal standards on these tests would get you called chubby in the fitness industry.

@@Heavenbird24 long distance runners usually burn less body fat but more carbs.
Paul's diet and lifestyle are obviously in perfect balance with his age and genetic makeup. However, It does not mean that it would apply equally to everyone else.
Home cooked tastes better than food of convenience any day.

Over the last 10 years I added on about 10 more lbs. someone with a background of medicine should know that everyone has a unique metabolism to handle fruits or sugar and almost everything intake

@ wow, thanks for the detailed response! Appreciate it. 😃

Is the dexa scan harmful to your body?
This is great.. thank you for doing it…. Would you consider doing a CAC test or another calcium test in the arteries for soft or hard plaque ?
PAUL IS THE PROOF ! TOTAL RESPECT !
Any vegetables included?
Dr. Saladino any thoughts on Bovaer being added to cattle feed?
Full transparency, I love it
Is this an old video? you said youve never had a dexa before but ive seen a video in the past where you get one at the same place
Suspicious, right? Thanks for being here. What do you think about this? ⬇
🟢 DO ANIMALS DESERVE RIGHTS?
Paul, your diet works for me, but come the evening.....i cannot avoid refined carbs. Any help with that?
Why don’t you get an MRI so you can see a true amount of visceral fat? Dexa scans do not show an accurate reading of your visceral fat. Get an MRI and let’s see what it says.
This was really cool. That lady seemed very good!
I got a dexa recently, but it did not give me my visceral fat, only subcutaneous. Is there another type?
I watched a raw food community get fat from raw meat and fruit. They were doing some gardening and cooking and chores but not being as athletic… so I do think meat plus fruit leads to fat gain if one is not athletic. It is the bear’s perfect program for fat gain before hibernating all winter.
Overeating on any diet will cause weight gain, even on a strict carnivore diet.
But what about your arteries? What's your CAC score?
He has done a previous video showing his CAC score. It was perfect; no plaque buildup detected.
Dr Paul Saladino , another great. Health is Wealth ❤️☮️🙏
There's a DEXAFit near me. I'm going to do the body comp + VO2max test. I'm also doing a full body MRI that same day with Ezra. Thx Paul!
