The single release of this song has a moment from Chinchilla that breaks my heart on every listen. On "there's a pill for everything" she goes off pitch and 'squeaks' into the last word. So much emotion and storytelling in that single second!! I love it so much
Ren is one of those artists that come along every few decades. Full control of emotion. Song writing. Story and making incredible video. Keep in mind he has no major production company or studio behind him. Ren is braking the modern mold. This track is a absolute timeless hit. I'm just insanely excited about how much Will is learning from doing these professional analyses, and how much that puts him ahead of the herd - ON TOP of his already insane natural talent. 🖤
And let's not ignore the location selection. Chinchilla's final line underscores how the location not only make for a unique visual, but the natural reverb that Ren finds is always amazing. Much like the stairwell in Violet's Tale.

@@JW-qf2fxYes and no. Ren (and Chinchilla) used to busk, so they can both kick ass live. This video is 100% live in the room, there might be a few cuts, but it's not recorded in a studio

This seems to hold water in light of the comment in this vid about the hiss due to having to increase volume on Chinchilla's solo.
18:35... You hit on something that I have admired about his work. Ren's ability to 'push' a feeling through his voice is what first hit me. I'm guessing he's spent a lot of time alone training this to perfect it. His use of silence, transition from song to rap (or reverse) is unlike any other I've experienced and usually it's at a moment of masterful increase or change of emotions.
Next, I strongly recommend Chinchilla Fingers -- the live version. It really shows her vocal technique and creativity, and has great shots of her face so you can see what she's doing!
I came here to say this - glad it's already been said! The official song video is super fun (especially when you know she makes her own hats!) but the live version is something else... she kinda makes me think of Kate Bush somehow.

I've watched around a hundred reaction videos since discovering Ren in February, and this is probably my favorite. The 3 of you compliment each other so well, & your enthusiasm is palpable.
From my perspective as a person on disability for the past 19yrs for depression and anxiety, the lyric "great big smile" - 100% bitter. He's expressing the anger and the resentment and the despair that he's expected to somehow perform "being ok" in interactions (often enough, even your therapists suggest that you "fake it until you make it" in terms of trying to maintain your social relationships). There's a sense that even with people who are supposed to love you and support you it's not acceptable to be yourself, when you're not okay; they want you to smile and pretend to be ok because it's uncomfortable and inconvenient and to be with someone who you can't fix, who won't be "fixed" the next time you see them or the time after that or the time after that.
Absolutely right , I get so tired of making everyone around me feel ok about me not being ok at all. It’s many years since I have been ok for more than minutes at a time and I support those around me. It isn’t fair for me share my pain, but I would so love to have someone just acknowledge for once , I am not ok and let me be ok. Actually I don’t think I could let them ackowlege I am not ok it might break me.
This was wild for me as I was hoping Will would check out Ren sometime. It truly is awesome when the artists you love and listen to of various genres start listening to each other. Makes me insanely happy! Really like that y’all have joined forces and brought Will in on reactions sometimes. I am a huge fan and supporter of his and I know he is fascinated with all kinds of vocals - this is a great way to get his creative gears turning. I enjoy hearing his perspective and how he absorbs information from you, Elizabeth, and also Chris. Hope to see more of these!
At 16.31 chris goes into artists being good storytellers and straight away it made me think of will's work on the pain remains album that whole album is a story and as a hash vocalist will is also an amazing story teller that album in its entirety is an absolute masterpiece and will tells the story within it perfectly
What a *joy* to watch the three of you not only explaining professionally what is going on, but also at the same time let us see that *you* really enjoy what Ren is doing. The vibe, the admiration is great in this video. Thank you ! Edit: Yep, when Elizabeth gets the Goosebumps as soon as Chinchilla begins to sing. Same here. Always goosebumps. And when a voice, a style of singing can do that, it really touches your heart and soul on a level words can´t explain.
15:50 Nailed it. The reason it is so emotional and so engaging is because it's real. It's not a pop song. It's not manufactured. Ren has a message and story (many) to tell. It's so refreshing... and deeply disturbing at the same time. In a good way. Something we should be disturbed by, reminded of and have our heart strings pulled with. Somethings shouldn't be ignored.
It is one of the greatest duets of all time, in my opinion. It's so powerful, and not just anyone can do it. Bravo, you guys in picky this song and artists 🎨 ❤❤
those books at the beginning are old books from the 70s, like retail orders, receipts, bills payment etc for a cinema. The video was made at Odeon Cinema in Brighton in an area on the second floor not in use where there is the old archive seen in the video. Ren is singing in the old air conditioning room just behind one of the screens, in fact he had to play when no films were on. I was working there at that time!
This collaboration between the three of them is just good for the soul. You all have very authentic child like smiles of excitement when listening, it's so much fun to watch. And each of you bring such different and complimentary insight. I hope to see more collab reviews like this. I was gonna play this in the background while I worked, but it had me glued to the screen, and smiling the whole time. Incredible dynamic. Thank you. Each of you.
You know what would make the deep dive into the Ren rabbit hole complete? A reaction to his band, The Big Push (I suggest I Shot the Sheriff/Road to Zion/Hip Hop) and to Blind Eyed with Sam Tompkins Links : I Shot the Sheriff/Road to Zion/Hip Hop - The Big Push: ua-cam.com/video/uSeCuR51rek/v-deo.html Blind Eyed - ft. Sam Tompkins: ua-cam.com/video/6z7ug3B_Sts/v-deo.html
So glad to see you all react to Ren. I love his collaborations. "Ocean", "Humble," and "Chalk Outlines" are on my top rotation these days. Even if you don't do a reaction, you should definitely check out the other two.
I need more of this everyday!!!!! This collaboration is amazing. You all have an amazing well of knowledge when it comes to the vocal everything. Thank you for this.
31:50 that buzz is actual resonance, means you're both on same pitch and is is actually adding to you're sound waves/ resonance in physics is an additive force, if you have a low c and a high c played same time the energy is added . happens with ocean waves as well. when a wave crashes into another wave their heights are actually added together while they pass through each other. this is a function of waves so so when you're singing together and on pitch those sound waves resonate increasing amplitude in both of you.
Something a lot of people don’t mention is how tallented Ren is at using a location as an instrument/effect. I am near positive that comes from his busking days singing outside or in tunnels where you really can play with how you sound. Violet is a great example when he sings up the spiral stairwell. Here he really digs into that loud reverb for power and softens to let it bounce around like a haunting echo.
Thank you so much for doing this song. This song is the best song ever written for people dealing with mental health. It literally encompasses everything it is to me. I listen to this song daily. I show it to everyone I know in hopes it reaches them like it did me.
Amazing that you 3 can sit and analyze a couple of new, independent, and not widely known artists! How many artists that are backed by industry would you do this for? Them going live and one take is genius! It wouldn't be talked about as much if it was studio. It wouldn't be special if the video was edited. They invite you in to experience their art❤ Beautiful
Ren is just so insanely amazing because very tiny little sound and kyric, matched with the guitat notes..its all telling a story, even his little ceack i feel is his emotions almost having a mental breakdown b4 trying again with a fake smile.. like he says. And he expands and outl8nes that fake smile part in his voice because his smile is just trying to push down his own emotions and put a sarcastic smile when hes truly suffering and his emotions conoletely MELD into one which is why his lyrics and kusic just hit that much different. Hes super authentic and he hits the soul.. and chinchillas voice truly conpliments it very well the way she comes in and then powerhits. Very cool
Others have already rightly suggested checking out Ren and Chinchilla on How To Be Me (live). I'd like to add to that checking out Ren and Sam Tompkins singing together on Blind Eyed, or one of their busking medleys like Earned It / Mans World / Falling, or Improvising around Stevie Wonder.
When you were talking about the human emotional elements in the voice I just call them imperfect perfections because that’s what they feel like , those are the feels that give you the goosebumps .
This is insane. Three of the top reactors, great in their main thing, singing and knowing what a good singer needs to do, get together and LOVE everything. How does this have to feel for Ren, watching this stuff? And Chinchilla? They deserve it, I don't have any knowledge of singing, yet I absolutely love what he does. But it has to be one of the most uplifting and dangerous (because them just being great and caring, feeling, putting everything in it makes it great and knowing you're great will make you lose that special delivery) things if you're one of those two. Watching this. Watching people who know their stuff just being blown away, even knowing what's coming.
Great reaction, about 1/2 way thru you all hit on what makes REN epic, and that is all parts eventually leading to the storytelling. He’s a modern master at leading, gracefully at times, us all down the road he’s chosen. Love the channel and content, I’m not a singer or musician but I learn every time I tune in, which I love.
WILL REACTING TO REN, OH MY GOD, CHRISTMAS CAME EARLY!!!! Edit: I can SO relate to Chris' little emotional "outbursts" during some sections of the song, and just his child-like excitement, I've never seen anyone else react to great musical stuff like this, glad I'm not the only weirdo! 😅 I've said it before and I'll say it again, I LOVE his passion for music. All of them bring something cool to the table, but I can't help but relate to Chris the most.
Ren is clearly an artistic genius. One of the things that I notice he often does is find these spaces where the acoustic resonance needs no digital enhancement on many of his live, one take videos.
Ren described Daisy aka Chinchilla as his soul-singing sister. They come at their work in the same way. I would love the three of you to do Ren's trilogy Jenny and Screech and Violet.
This was a really interesting and cool video for me to watch. I love this song. It was fun to see how you guys kinda piggybacked off of each other to talk about what you were hearing in the song. Thanks for sharing this video with us. May y'all have a good one. Have fun take care I'm off to go check out that video now.
This format is awesome, as many have said. Might work well to bring songs to each other as a group. E.g. Chris can bring Chinchilla Fingers to the table, and gently guide the first time reaction for Will and Elizabeth. Seems this would provide a great platform for your anaylis style reactions!
I love everyone who was involved in this video. Thank you for introducing Will to Ren and Chinchilla! This was great, I really hope Ren sees this one! Also, Elizabeth, like others have mentioned, please analyse 'How to be me' sometime! Chris has already done it and he loved it
You might have to hang tight for a few months while he continues to roll out the rest of his rap album, but his next album that's more traditional guitar-based songs will certainly feature his singing voice a lot more.
I would really love to see you guys react to Chinchilla Fingers live version. It is one of the best and powerfully emotional live performances I have ever seen. She is incredible! Such exquisite voice control.
The course you put together is extraordinary. So much information and camaraderie and you guys are so engaging and having so much fun with it and that's really what makes it fun. It's like if the instructors are having fun and giving themselves permission to look and sound ridiculous then the students feel way more comfortable doing so.
This is such a wonderful discussion. Please! Do it again! Of course I would love to see more of Ren's chameleon, like for example some of him busking, which is such a different sound, or How to Be me. But I'll come back for others too.
I couldn't help but notice at 33:30 when Chris talks about Ren "tripping up a bit" and Chinchilla being like, "I got this" ... see the still frame captured in the video. It seems to express that perfectly! Nice synchronicity. :)

This performance is so powerful, I get insane goosebumps every time I hear it, no matter HOW many times I hear it. Freaking incredible.
I love this video so much!! Elizabeth, I'd love to see you interview Ren.
OMG, I am so happy you guys are doing this song!! It's unreal!
OHHHH I can't wait for Elizabeth to do Chinchilla's Fingers live!!!!
At 16.31 chris goes into artists being good storytellers and straight away it made me think of will's work on the pain remains album that whole album is a story and as a hash vocalist will is also an amazing story teller that album in its entirety is an absolute masterpiece and will tells the story within it perfectly
What a *joy* to watch the three of you not only explaining professionally what is going on,
but also at the same time let us see that *you* really enjoy what Ren is doing.
Will Ramos entering the Ren rabbit hole! YES!
I love when you collab together its soo comfy
One of my favorite things Ren does with his music is getting across every emotion in such a genuine way. Nothing about his music feels forced.
Off subject but I want to tell Will that his latest song floored me! His clean vocals are incredible! Your talent is unimaginable.
He's done more?! On his YT? Or his Patreon?
This collaboration between the three of them is just good for the soul. You all have very authentic child like smiles of excitement when listening, it's so much fun to watch. And each of you bring such different and complimentary insight. I hope to see more collab reviews like this. I was gonna play this in the background while I worked, but it had me glued to the screen, and smiling the whole time. Incredible dynamic. Thank you. Each of you.
i hope ren see's this one day. this is 3 seriously professional singers just in awe at what he is doing. thats unreal to me
Rens videographer is a childhood friend Sam, most of Rens videos cost less than £1000, who needs million dollar videos when you have All the talent.
You know what would make the deep dive into the Ren rabbit hole complete? A reaction to his band, The Big Push (I suggest I Shot the Sheriff/Road to Zion/Hip Hop) and to Blind Eyed with Sam Tompkins

So glad to see you all react to Ren. I love his collaborations. "Ocean", "Humble," and "Chalk Outlines" are on my top rotation these days. Even if you don't do a reaction, you should definitely check out the other two.
I'm glad you posted this. It's one of my favourites, never failing to give me goosebumps and make me cry at the same time. So much emotion.
I’ve been hoping you’d do this one next. Then I saw the line up on the thumbnail! OMG! This group reaction is going to be epic!
I absolutely adore that moment in Violet's Tale!
I was sooo hoping you'd do this one! Then on top of it, you bring those two with you! Going to be awesome
two of my favorite artists i never thought would collide are Will and Ren. that it’s all 3 of you makes me so happy 😃
Same. I'm loving this! 🖤🖤
Thank you so much for doing this song. This song is the best song ever written for people dealing with mental health. It literally encompasses everything it is to me. I listen to this song daily. I show it to everyone I know in hopes it reaches them like it did me.
This is a power trio we all needed, always look forward to seeing you 3 together. Ren is amazing and chinchilla is just as amazing. ❤
You all need to do the live version of How To Be Me. It's more of the same vein, and is absolutely heartbreaking.
This live version is incredible. The two of them are a perfect match and the lyrics hit so hard
Love your reactions and can't wait to see this one as it is without doubt one of my all time ( 50 years worth ) of favourite Duets!
I love how THE Will Ramos is speaking so highly of Ren's voice...Ren deserves every bit of attention he gets ❤
I'm 58, after 50 years of listening to music and knowing what it means to me, I'm beyond words about Ren's music.
Amazing that you 3 can sit and analyze a couple of new, independent, and not widely known artists! How many artists that are backed by industry would you do this for? Them going live and one take is genius! It wouldn't be talked about as much if it was studio. It wouldn't be special if the video was edited. They invite you in to experience their art❤
Beautiful
Your enthusiasm as you wait for the music to kick in is infectious!
This has been one of my favorite reactions to Ren...you guys are amazing ...thank you
If they are going to make a harsh vocal duet happen I want to hear Will and Tati face to face. It would be something else.
Exactly who I was thinking about, too! Elizabeth can make it happen!! 🤘🤘🤘
That is what I thought immediately as well!
Will's having a tough time not (quietly) singing alone. It's pretty cute.
I can't believe you haven't done Chinchilla yet! SO much amazing singing! Please do Little Girl Gone!
Ren is clearly an artistic genius.
One of the things that I notice he often does is find these spaces where the acoustic resonance needs no digital enhancement on many of his live, one take videos.
Wow this was epic ❤❤❤ please please 🙏 do more reviews/ breakdowns / reactions with Chris and this awesome trio ❤❤❤ loved it
Ren described Daisy aka Chinchilla as his soul-singing sister.
Chris has already done it and he loved it
I love Ren and Will Ramos
I do too!
Not often mentioned is how generous Ren is when he always gives the spotlight to the others he collaborates with.
This is such a wonderful discussion. Please! Do it again! Of course I would love to see more of Ren's chameleon, like for example some of him busking, which is such a different sound, or How to Be me. But I'll come back for others too.
live no autotune I love the raw sound it's a breath of fresh air.
Thanks for this really chill breakdown/analysis of a song that is just the bee’s knees.
I couldn't help but notice at 33:30 when Chris talks about Ren "tripping up a bit" and Chinchilla being like, "I got this" ... see the still frame captured in the video. It seems to express that perfectly! Nice synchronicity. :)
Like “I got us”, how they’re intertwined in the journey and helping or complementing each other.
I love the idea of the three of you together. Especially on a Ren track. Ren is my new favorite artist as of the dropping of hi Ren. I'm a 50 year old metal head and musician and never before have I heard a musician as versatile and so relatable to everyone. He's so incredible
