I said it back when it was announced and I will say it now, Marvel is showing how much they are hurting and desperate for a big hit by announcing RDJ as Doom. If Marvel didn't have so many flops over the last 3-4yrs I don't think they would have made the announcement, they would probably still cast RDJ as Doom but they would have kept it secret and kept the reveal for the big screen much like they have done in the past like with "Spider-Man No Way Home". Doom pulling off the mask and revealing Tony's face would have been the Captain America calling Mjolnir moment of the movie, but that possibility is gone now.
I get where you're coming from, but in reality it doesn't work like that. They need to get people into seats for what you wanted to even be possible. If they didn't have any trouble getting everyone to go see it they wouldn't have felt the need to rdj to begin with. So either not many would go see it and never get surprised, or the people that did go see it would tell everyone rdj is in it which would make people go see it, but then the surprise is ruined anyways. Announcing it ahead of time like they did is the most logical and correct choice by far. The only scenario where keeping it a secret works is one where marvel is still as popular as when infinity war/endgame came out, and obviously that's not even close to being the case.
well the sadly had to make a hard choice with Kang duie to Major's facing jailtime and time sensativity of castings this sadly became the best option left on the board. problem is anyone they recast to replace Majors would end up unfairly judged by viewers as being not as good an actor. fact is Majors was a rare unique modern thepian trained actor and they are usually better acing skilled than the avg hollywood actors are. so i actually agree changing the villain was the smarter move because of how it would been recieved by audiences in reality
Remember when James Gunn joked that he came up with infinity stone storyline in 15 minutes? Same situation as Iron Man 1 filming. They're basically winging it until something lands, and Feigie retcons it afterwards like it was the plan. Nope. It's a crap show with studios getting sold and Fox/Sony sticking it to Marvel over the years for spite
The problem was the studio wrote him poorly and people didn’t receive him right as well, people used to say majors saved the character with his acting. Also the controversy and the writers strike didn’t help the case. They probably figured this was an awful case of bad luck and decided to just drop it, which sucks, I’m all for doom but you can’t just leave kangs story a plothole
5:08 I disagree, Kang was not the reason Quantamania didn't work, most of the reviews praise Kang, and for the most part he is one of the few positives most people give Quantamania. What went wrong is the ending, if we had the original ending Quantamania would have gained lots of points at least with me.
@ Most everything plays out the same way, everyone else goes home, Ant Man stays back to fight Kang. Except instead of Kang being killed, Kang beats Ant man, leaves him trapped in the Quantam realm, and now Kang is free to wreak havoc on Earth 616….
You're right. Quantumania had plenty of issues. Kang's treatment was among them but even if you fix everything with Kang, it'd still be a terrible movie.
Definitely think they should’ve kept moving forward with Kang. Didn’t love Antman 3, but where they were taking the character had me wanting to see more. That being said, it feels like it was way too late in the overall story to introduce a completely new Dr Doom without it being a retconned train wreck. In all honesty, Doom deserves his own saga that focuses on him start to finish. But this is where we are now and they could’ve done a lot worse than cast RDJ in the role. At least there’s a connection to work with.
Marvel basically recycled RDJ as Doctor Doom and I really feel bad for all the OG fans out there who waited the longest to see Dr Doom on screen and now have to settle for RDJ. Just bring back Jonathan Majors as Kang and finish his story.
I read comics since I was a kid and the first movie I remember I watched as a kid was iron man, and I don’t feel like that at all 😂 so your just one of those people that think they know what goes on behind the scenes of marvel, what if maybe what if they actually have a good story to tell with RDJ Doom, did you think of that?, of course not you people don’t think at all
@@thasensei5120settle as Doom is recycled Iron Man in a silver suit. I feel cheated. I love RDJ, but this move just totally diminished Tony Stark’s sacrifice in End Game.
I feel like it's a bit of great storytelling to have RDJ come back as Doctor Doom, and kind of full circle, considering that ironically (no pun intended) Doom can be a variant of Tony Stark to some extremes. In a perfect world, maybe not do that and let Doom be his own character and origin from FF, but due to the circumstances of the Multiverse and Marvel wanting to explore going outside of the box, it's a big risk with big reward and can't possibly make us feel any worse about Marvel than we already do, right? And as far as Jonathan Majors coming back as Kang, I'm with the school of thought that Quantumania did indeed kill his character enough, even before his legal issues, to kill my interest in him. However, there is room for him to make an appearance with the Young Avengers, so if Disney want to make amends with him and give him a better ending, it's totally possible and quite acceptable in my opinion. I'm definitely intrigued to see what happens next though
Nah they definitely should have. The casual fans will love it more than anything else they could have done and they matter the most to the studios at the end of the day because they are the reason a movie does or doesn't make big money. A lot of die hards even love this decision. I get you not liking it, and that's completely fair, but saying it's the wrong decision is just... well wrong.
listen bud, NOBODY cares about it pissing u off😭 except maybe the other grown men who seem to have severe OCD and can’t comprehend a change from the comics😂😂
@sherwood7hp I think the point I'm trying to make very clumsily is that the line between rdj and the Tony stark charater is so blurred by now that whether he's a variant or not people won't see anything but rdj/iron man.
@@AlexSosa007 I genuinely think he will be a Tony Stark variant in some way because he has his face, even if disfigured it will probably still resemble RDJ in some way. I personally think he will be an alternate Tony Stark that was in a universe where Winter Soldier kills Howard Stark but way earlier in this timeline, somewhere around the Sokovia area but he will have his wife & kid with him. Winter Soldier will kill the parents no problem but "Bucky" won't allow himself to kill a baby, so he takes him & drops him off on a door step: Castle Von Doom. The baby is adopted as Victor Von Doom but with the mind of Tony Stark. He'll not grow up as a playboy billionaire but in the harsh conditions of the Sokovia area or whatever the MCU has designated as Lateveria. He'll be a tech genius & have mastered magic from his mother. This is my opinion after reading an article that explains it & it just makes the most sense as to why Tony Stark & Victor Von Doom as the same person/actor, & I've seen videos that pretty much confirms this is likely the route they're taking because the set up has been there the entire time for it.
The problem with Kang was they introduced him too soon. We didn’t really see Thsnos properly until Infinity War so there was no big reveal for Kang plus he got beaten by Ants. They may have also spoilt Dooms reveal, that could have been quite a shock to see RDJ as Doom first time in the theater.
Idk. I think it made sense for Kang to be introduced earlier but they needed to show him as more of a threat manipulating things for longer. Just a more hands-on version of thanos
The problem wasn't Kang, the problem was phase 4 and 5 was pushing the M-She-U and turning the main heroes into jokes. Look at what they did to Hulk and Thor! Dr Strange was sidelined in his own movie to Wanda and Chavez and many more.
I don’t think the dude in the TV gets It. They’re two separate characters. They always have been. that’s how they built their fan base in the first place. Yes there has been what if moments. But that’s because everyone was curious not because that’s what everyone wanted. besides that there are far too many extremely perfect talented actors out there that would be perfect for the role. it’s true. They drop the ball hard with Kang and now they are continuing down the wrong path unfortunately
@ no you don’t get It. None of the movies have truly followed the Comic rules. But the early MCU did not go too far astray. That’s why they were successful in the first place . what people are looking for is a good story with the characters that they have grown attached To. when you start to morph the characters to appoint where they’re unrecognizable that’s when you lose the audience.
Could picture a huge battle taking place, and the Avengers win and defeat Kang, and while they’re huffing and puffing and bloodied, you just see a blue time door open, and Kang walks through it hands behind his back, saying something like, “You can defeat me, but you can’t defeat time.”
You have no idea how badly I wanted to see a scene of Kang losing a hard fought battle and right as they are about to detain or kill him, he clicks a button on his temp pad and everyone disappears and now suddenly they are in a world ruled by Kang, one where Stark never became iron man and thus the Avengers never formed. With a villain like Kang we definitely needed to see more time travel shenanigans
People are just confused on what is a Variant and what isn't. Most variants would have the same face, but since Sony wanted to have all three Peters together, they had to bend those rules a bit. The best explanation would be people assuming he is Tony's variant, but Deadpool already has experience with that thru Human Torch so he would keep correcting them, lol
Quantumania bombed because nobody cares about Ant-Man, not because nobody cares about Kang. If it was Kang’s fault then why was Loki season 2 so great? The issue is we want all the time for characters to develop but aren’t getting fed in the meantime. I don’t know if I have 20 more years of life to waste seeing Marvel set up this key players like they should and could.
Exactly! I've been watching Marvel character movies since the first Fantastic Four film. I have given up on expecting to see the end of things if they plan another huge long Thanos style prologue. Instead of wasting time and the ages of their stars, they should quit making flops like the Marvels and stick to what works.
Recasting RDJ is a clear sign of desperation on Disney's part. And I do not agree with Colton. Still remember when this guy said that The Flash movie is a good and unique movie.
Blaming the fail of Quantumania on Jonathan Majors is ridiculous when he was the only saving grace in the movie. His Kang has been the best thing going in phases 4 & 5.
This is my opinion and I understand it's unpopular but I don't like RDjr getting this role. Or being paid 100 Million for it either. They could do so much better
@@JSV-pr4qoThat would make so much more sense than people just blatantly not acknowledging the fact that RDJ is playing a new role after Ironman, like wtf is the point of him actually as Dr Doom then? Why can't they cast 100 million other talented actors? Why introduce the Multiverse Saga and not put it into good use? I don't understand the stupidity of people that don't acknowledge this, it's ridiculous 😂
Dooms face in his early origins was symbolically scarred. Nobody is talking about that when it comes to RDJ, the possibility that he may not look like Iron Man at all. We just witnessed Colin Farrell completely transformed in his role as Penguin with prosthetics for the role, & he turned in a phenomenal performance on the strength of his skills as an actor. Perhaps Marvel has a similar plan for RDJ. 🤔
@OnajOnaj-e7d They are paying him for his name, his skills & his good relationship with the studio. His face is not what carried Iron Man it was his performance that drove the character at the end of the day. I refuse to believe it's all that surface level, & we are forgetting that an actors job is to act. If it is literally just face value, then Marvel is in even more trouble. Just look at Thanos. Is that technically Josh Brolin's face?
@@JacobDean88 How is that strange? It's blatantly obvious they are pandering with casting RDJ. "Hey everyone it's RDJ, remember when he died and we made like 2billion dollars?" So they wrote a story to shoehorn him in. Casting a fan favorite in a role is the oldest Hollywood stunt, when you are Desperate to win back fans. They have no confidence in the IP anymore so they pulled the trump card day one.
Agreed and instead of being introduced on stage they should have teased him first for a more dramatic experience like they did with Thanos on the big screen
Stark doom is going to turn out to be just tony stark gone bad. I think at the end of avengers doomsday the REAL DOOM will show himself and they aren't telling us who is playing him. I hope it's true.
I was literally thinking the same thing while watching this video! After Deadpool and Wolverine, Marvel has learned to give us the best of two worlds of giving us nostalgia and new stories all under secrecy.
Here's the short answer: RDJ has already ruined Doom. The only time Doom mask comes off is when it's revealed to be a Doom-bot. RDJ is going to be taking his mask off as much as Boba Fett did in his show.
Non-stop taking off that mask. MCU characters are constantly doing that, and it's just so they can subtly wink at the camera like, "Hey, guys, it's me -- Tom Holland! Look!"
10:45 ... No...he wouldn't. He would be a Tony Stark variant. If they want to use an "evil" Tony Stark variant as the Big Bad then do that. But do not replace Victor Von Doom with a Tony Stark variant. It's just lazy and bad.
Clever argument. I am not against RDJ Doom but I really thought they could do a lot with Kang and wish they would have kept him. Good job causing that conflict in my decision for this debate.
I will always say this an I dont care what MCU fan gets mad.. the last great MCU project we got was endgame. Everything else since then has been complete mess, or hit or miss. I would've loved to see an actor take on the role of Doom.. RDJ playing Doom after giving us so many memories as iron man jus seems wrong. Lazy casting an feels like a desperate attempt
Yeah, I don’t know what new timeline I’ve woken up in, but Kang was not a problem in Quantumania. He was the hilight of that movie. Marvel screwed him over with the ending.
It can work. I was actually really hyped for kang, AMQ is actually my favorite of his 3 movies, and I liked that he defeated a powered down version and lived to warn the others about kangs.
Picture this if you will. Infant Tony Stark is in a private jet with his parents, and it crashes somewhere in Latveria. He’s the only survivor and is then raised as Victor von Doom. This world never knows of Tony Stark. There is only DOOM.
Come on, guys... the sponsor bit is mandatory at this point, but adding a merch placement AND a tour promotion, all on top of the adds run by UA-cam... come on, guys.
Dropping a lawsuit doesn't mean you're innocent, it usually means they settled out of court, plus he was convicted by a criminal court so a civil lawsuit being dropped isn't really the acquittal you think it is
@@djaaronix In December, Majors was found guilty on two misdemeanor charges in a domestic violence case - assault in the third degree and harassment in the second degree - relating to a March 2023 argument with his former girlfriend, Grace Jabbari.
@@PeekabooEUDK Because a black man accepting the lesser of 2 shit deals from prosecutors (even though they were innocent) has never happened before. Mostly because they were conned into thinking any jury they get be systematically loaded with racists. Or end up having a Judge like Alex Jones did who would just skip looking at evidence, now allow a defence and make a summary judgement. So the jury's only role was to work how guilty they were and not be told what crimes they committed.
The thing about Kang is, the guy is always playing 4D chess when everyone else is trying to get their checkers across the board. Him getting "stomped" by some giant ants could have been part of a bigger plan, or could have simply been a thing where the Kang we saw in Quantumania wasn't **the** Kang that would go on to be the most dangerous one. There were more stories we should have seen Kang tied in to, and the fact that we didn't was the biggest issue. Some variant of Kang should have been involved in every Marvel film and Disney+ show starting in phase 4, even if it was just for a brief cameo. He should have popped up anywhere, doing anything, keeping us guessing. I think the biggest failure of Kang and the multiverse saga is exactly like Ryan said: this has ended up being more the intellectual property saga, with Marvel more interested in playing to nostalgia than telling a new, compelling story. And Colton: sure, the upcoming movies will be fun and enjoyable, but that also doesn't mean we can't mourn what could have been. I'm happy to have Marvel make the most of the bad situation they're in, but let's not forget that they put themselves there in the first place. I just hope to see them salvage what they have now, move forward, and hope the next phase can get going on better footing.
Ryan, I heard that Cillian Murphy will play doom in the 616 universe as the Doctor Doom and RDJ’s doom will be from the Fantastic Four universe and later will be in Doomsday and Secret Wars but then Murphy’s Doom will kill RDJ’s doom like Doom did in the comics
Kang worked, and the quantumania part did not. The Loki series proved that. Ant-man is too comical to play opposite Kang. C'mon Ryan, you know this, you're not that dense.......
Big mistake. Disney trying to save themselves by cashing in 'member berries. They should gave recast Kang. He has VARIANTS, it could literally be any actor
Doom is not ruining Marvel. Marvel is doing that all by themselves... Just look at how it began and how it went down the line... That's a graph that would steadily go down and continue to plummet until it hits rock bottom.. it's pretty close to that bottom line..
It’s not good. I worked as a Development intern on Iron Man and RDJ was perfect. He is synonymous with being Iron Man. As a comic book fan first. This is Disney BS
I disagree when Ryan is talking about how badass Doom's backstory is. Not about whether it is badass or not, it is. But rather that you can still have the exact same backstory AND have him be a Tony Stark variant. There is no reason at all why you can't do that. It's not like Doom was raised by his parents. Just come up with something that explains why Tony ended up in the forest with the nomads. Edit: ok my guy Colton made the same argument. His addition of mentioning how the Kang variants have a ton of different origins just ends the debate right then and there. You just flat out can't argue against it. Good stuff Colton. Killed it. And having the actors pretend Doom doesn't look exactly like Tony is silly, and there will be a TON of casuals that don't even fully understand everything and will assume it is a Tony variant since variants have been shoved down are throats recently. They won't be happy when no characters say "Hey, he looks just like Tony!" Because to be fair, how would you even go about showing he isn't a variant in the movie without acknowledging he looks exactly like Tony? So if you just pretend they don't casuals are gonna think that's stupid.
I'm sort of on Ryan's side. It probably will be fun, but it'll be more nostalgia bait and not very rewatchable. Doom is one of the greatest villains ever conceived in any media, he deserves to built up the way Thanos was. I also agree Kang had a lot more in the tank, they could have recasted Kang and got back on track. They should have casted a younger guy to play Doom so he could have helped carry the MCU for years.
I actually do agree with Ryan. Now, after secret wars who knows if we will ever get doom again. It sucks because I’ve been thinking the same as Ryan where the MCU is going ahead and creating their own original characters in the prime 616. I loved no way home, but that pretty much showed audiences that those versions of Spiderman villains are the definitive ones and now I’m worried the same will happen with Doom. We might never see him again after secret wars.
Colton and the majority of commentators on this annoying channel gonna get diarrhea from all the crow they eat when they realize how good of an idea this is after they see these movies.
I don't like RDJ as Doom, BUT it made a lot more sense when he compared Victor Timely to Rama-Tut. They have nothing in common other than their face yet they are variants of each other and we'd never question that. Stark and Doom would share the exact same connection.
naw u super nerds who can’t move past “bu-bu-but it’s not like the comics” are gonna ruin it for urself coming in with an already negative bias😂😂 it’s like u guys have OCD about it being not perfect to a T like in the comics🤦♂️
@@wyattangle I get that but he is comparing variants of the same character (Kang). This one is not supposed to be a variant of Ironman, it would make more sense to me if that was the case (Superior Iron Man or Iron Doom)
I agree with Ryan: work on new versions of the characters rather than trying to grab nostalgia. I really disliked the 3rd Spider-Man installment for that reason. Sony just did Sony and Marvel greenlit it thanks to the multiverse. Downey should not, in my opinion, be brought back as Doom. Not as Victor or as Stark Doom. -Whichever! When they reboot, I seriously there is no multiverse BS. 'Nuff said.
I'm with Ryan, Kang shouldn't have been recasted and moved forward in the multiverse with Kang. Kang is a time traveler, a person who moves between dimensions, this would have worked extremely great
Marvel didn't ruin doom only because they casted rdj as doom. It is on the story if he is great villian. So yeah. He is a great, not the best choice but still positive.
@Grand_Master12312 Dr Doom never takes it off in the comics... Why the hell would he need to in the movies... What, is the audience too stupid to know who the actor is under the mask? It truly does not matter, theyll probably show his face in the first five seconds Dr Doom is on screen... Because Disney sucks now! This last "phase" was garbage and they got him back for damage control...
@@Grand_Master12312 yeah, I'm sure Darth Vader would have been better if we could see the acting behind the mask... Like in empire, Vader should have taken his mask off to show Luke that he is his daddy...
Sorry, Colton. Ryan is completely right. I think you are misunderstanding what a variant is. They are alternate versions of the same character. Doom and Iron Man are two different characters. It's simply just the same actor playing different characters.
In addition, two characters resembling one another is not just a meta gag in Deadpool. No Way Home is an example. Doc Ock didn't recognize Tom Holland as Spidey thus meaning other characters can recognize similarities other than Deadpool.
Wrong. You're misunderstanding what a variant is. Doom and Iron Man are separate characters in the comics, most of the time. But that doesn't have to be the case for the MCU. Victor Timely, Rama Tut, and Kang are all very different characters with different names and origins, the same can be true for the MCU's Tony Stark. In some universes this guy we know as Tony is Tony, but in other universes he can have a different name, different origin story, different everything. -Colton
@ScreenCrush If he has a "different name, different origin story, different everything" then that makes him a different character all together, just played by the same actor as was my original point. It just becomes a similar situation to Chris Evans playing Cap/ Human Torch or Ali playing Blade/Cottonmouth. That doesn't make them variants of each other. They just happen to look the same.
The main problem with RDJ being cast as Dr. Doom is that it comes off as intellectually bankrupt because of optics. Since for the majority of the content coming from Marvel has been questionably inconsistent. It feels like they are trying to go back to a well that worked. It also shows that the whole multiverse saga is weak and needs somebody of RDJ's caliber to help reign it in. Also, it feels like bringing in Dr. Doom this way cripples how you can work with him. Dr. Doom is probably the greatest villain Marvel has. He can have such wide dirths of where you go with him. But making him this way limits this in that he will be constantly compared to Iron Man. Also, he will probably die at the end of Secret Wars because of this which then limits his use in total.
I do think that if they do plan on killing Doom in Secret Wars, I hope that they show a little bit of the new universe created afterwards and hint that Doom will be back, but played by someone else.
He doesn’t need to be a variant because Chris Evans played two different characters and Spider-Man has been played by three different actors (four if you count What If?). They do need to address the similarity, and I think it should specifically be Peter Parker who does it because his variants looked different, but he doesn’t need to be a variant.
I think bringing back RDJ as Doctor Doom is actually brilliant. Both from a business perspective and compelling reasons. People will care. People talk about it all the time. It draws attention. Marketing successful. Now they need to tell a compelling story that makes sense. And if anyone can do it, it's the Russos with Stephen McFeely. Never underestimate them. You think they would come back if they weren't feeling confident that they can tell a story as good as infinity war and endgame or even better?
@garrettmurphy2447 We'll know that pretty soon too. People forgot what patience is :) The avengers are not a team right now. Simple as that. They will assemble again soon.
@@garrettmurphy2447How can you even say that when we have 4 movies left until Doomsday and all the upcoming series too?! All we knew about Thanos was that he would try to collect all the stones. We didn't know why, or how or what he wanted to do with them. We learned that in Infinity War. We saw him for less than 4 mins before infinity war. So what exactly are you talking about? The avengers are simply broken right now. They don't exist as a team. Did you also complain that Marvel didn't set up Infinity War correctly when they fought in Civil War and they stopped being a team?
majors's girlfriend just dropped all charges and claimed it was just to ruin his career. i was so excited to see him as kang i loved him in lovecraft country
Marvel had one job. And that was to recast the perfect Dr. Doom and start a new lifeline in marvel instead they backtrack. Again. It’s not that hard. They have been dropping the ball a lot. Even though there’s nobody else on the field to get in their way. There’s no need for them to reinvent the wheel to a degree that they’re doing. They think these huge gambles will pay off. But at the end of the day. It’s more likely to alienate and piss off longtime fans of the characters.. this is how you lose
I mean that was kind of how I felt about the MCU's Spider-Man when there had already been other portrayals that felt more comic accurate and still enjoyed more because of it.
I'm with you Ryan - finish the Kang storyline. Acknowledge that it suffered (as did other Marvel projects) from very bad writing, and since we are dealing with variants - hire another actor. If you want an evil variant of Tony Stark, make one - don't have him becoming one of Marvel's most popular villains. Give Dr. Doom his own story, and more importantly RESPECT. Hire a lesser known actor to be Doom [and do so with an actual Eastern European actor - well they do a good job, I\m so tired of all these British actors playing American superheroes]. Don't waste the budget on Robert Downey Jr., hire competent writers.
My first thought when I read the title was a scene from Star Trek TNG when Worf responded to the Duras sisters claim he was trying to tarnish their good name…He simply quipped, “You cannot tarnish a rusty blade”
@@johnb2422 it’s not hard to grasp. Everybody knows what the Multiverse saga is. Also, everyone knows that marvel has been making horrible choices which have been destroying characters left and right. Leading to the eventual destruction of the faith of the fan base.. in other words. The doom of the marvel cinematic universe is what people don’t want. They want a proper dr. doom
I'm going to have to go with Ryan on this one. It's is a goofy idea to bring back Downey as another character and especially bad to introduce doom this way. It's not only an awkward way to return an actor whose character had a satisfying conclusion to his arc and shouldn't be unearthed. The worst part is that Doom is such an amazing and complicated villain he should not be tied to the stark story it cheapens and muddy's doom as well as Tony.
Marvel not only ruined Doctor Doom but they played with the hearts of fans, they teased us with Kang, one of the Greatest Supervillains in Marvel history and then took him away from us. Jonathan Majors did a phenomenal job playing Kang and his variants. Marvel needs to do right by fans, rehire Jonathan Majors and finish off his story, THEN pivot to Doctor Doom and NOT RDJ Doom
My brother in christ. Kang the Conqueror isn't even CLOSE to being one of Marvel's best villains. In fact, he's always kinda sucked. You'd know that if you had ever read a comic book. Don't spew utter shit on something you clearly know nothing about.
I wish they would have finished the Kang arc. Bringing Dr. Doom out so soon is clear sign that Marvel is desperate and still don't know how to build a story. It's no different than them making Wanda the villain in MOM, completely ignoring what happened in WandaVision. If they wanted her to go the villain route again, it should have been a better build up including using Chthon but they wanted to rush the multiverse plot and sacrificed Wanda to do it.

No way will Doom be a variant of Iron Man. Stop the multiverse BS, please! RDJ can absolutely pull off Doom as the actual Doom. I give it 1 minute into the introduction of Doom for everyone to forget about Iron Man. HE CAN PULL IT OFF!! RDJ is that good of an actor....period. If they try to make him a variant, they will ruin it for me and everyone. New Mask, Same Task is meant to say that although he is now playing the best villain ever, the task is the same; kick ass and make us all awestruck with his ability to bring a character to life.
I agree with Ryan and a lot of y’all in the comments. Should’ve stuck with Kang and had him off Antman. But now that we’re here - Robert Doomey Jr shouldn’t have happened.
Just think of the fight sequences between the kang’s and kang vs the avengers. Fighting kang in multiple universes while reality collapses in the background 🤯 half the planet is destroyed and they’re fighting g on with with space right there would look Amazing. Plus kang was going around destroying universes. Doom won’t be so I don’t think k it’s going to be as entertaining. I heard they’re being back up to 60 super hero’s for secret wars. 60 for just one villain ? Nah Kang is the way to go
I think no matter what, RDJ is always gonna be associated with Iron man and seeing his face again is gonna take me out of the movie a little. His face is always gonna be associated with Tony Stark (for good reason, he was amazing) even if they disconnect him from Doom entirely.
9:38 The whole point is that we want to see that backstory and not just have a Robert Downey Jr. Dr. Doom walk in with all of the backstory already in place and then maybe it cuts to some flashbacks or something, no, I want to start from the beginning and work my way to the end, no flashbacks, no starting in the middle, straight from scratch
I just wanted the Kang story to lead into the young avengers, while the main avengers is still trying to be a thing, the young avengers then somehow find ironlad leading into different timelines and finding doctor doom at the end of an act
RDJ is so synonomous with Iron Man, having him play a different character in the same universe, you almost HAVE to make him a variant of the same being. If you don't, to the casual viewer it's just straight up confusing why he's even in the role; he IS Iron Man/Stark! I'm not a Marvel fan, I just enjoy the movies they put out, and for me, if RDJ's Doom isn't a variant of Stark, I really don't see why he was cast in the role.
I think it would have been more emotional if they brought RDJ back as a super advanced version of Jarvis who could wield the Iron Man armor remotely through his AI. Basically his entire consciousness was downloaded. That way you can explore AI vs Soul and so many other things.
Been watching this channel for a few years and just recently noticed it's mostly just Ryan saying "I'm right and everyone else is wrong. Here's why. If you don't agree, I'm going to get unnecessarily upset."

Yeah totally coming from an unbiased channel lol y'all are jokes
I said it back when it was announced and I will say it now, Marvel is showing how much they are hurting and desperate for a big hit by announcing RDJ as Doom. If Marvel didn't have so many flops over the last 3-4yrs I don't think they would have made the announcement, they would probably still cast RDJ as Doom but they would have kept it secret and kept the reveal for the big screen much like they have done in the past like with "Spider-Man No Way Home". Doom pulling off the mask and revealing Tony's face would have been the Captain America calling Mjolnir moment of the movie, but that possibility is gone now.
Yup. They couldn’t afford to keep it a secret until the movie
Well I think they did their calculations and it was important to know who was going to play doom since they change the name of avengers 5 to dooomsday
@@indatubeyeah, it wouldn't have been smart at all to keep it secret.

well the sadly had to make a hard choice with Kang duie to Major's facing jailtime and time sensativity of castings this sadly became the best option left on the board. problem is anyone they recast to replace Majors would end up unfairly judged by viewers as being not as good an actor. fact is Majors was a rare unique modern thepian trained actor and they are usually better acing skilled than the avg hollywood actors are. so i actually agree changing the villain was the smarter move because of how it would been recieved by audiences in reality

Same situation as Iron Man 1 filming.
They're basically winging it until something lands, and Feigie retcons it afterwards like it was the plan.
Nope. It's a crap show with studios getting sold and Fox/Sony sticking it to Marvel over the years for spite
Well should Squirrel Girl be placed in Disney+, have a solo movie, get a franchise or just be in a group movie franchise?

They probably figured this was an awful case of bad luck and decided to just drop it, which sucks, I’m all for doom but you can’t just leave kangs story a plothole
5:08 I disagree, Kang was not the reason Quantamania didn't work, most of the reviews praise Kang, and for the most part he is one of the few positives most people give Quantamania. What went wrong is the ending, if we had the original ending Quantamania would have gained lots of points at least with me.
Yeah Kang needed to win and show himself as the threat he is
What was the original ending?
@ Most everything plays out the same way, everyone else goes home, Ant Man stays back to fight Kang. Except instead of Kang being killed, Kang beats Ant man, leaves him trapped in the Quantam realm, and now Kang is free to wreak havoc on Earth 616….
You're right. Quantumania had plenty of issues. Kang's treatment was among them but even if you fix everything with Kang, it'd still be a terrible movie.
@@krinid Absolutely agree, if kang was fixed it would have went from a 2 to a 3.5/10
Definitely think they should’ve kept moving forward with Kang.
Just bring back Jonathan Majors as Kang and finish his story.

u say settle for RDJ like hes the worst actor in the world
I read comics since I was a kid and the first movie I remember I watched as a kid was iron man, and I don’t feel like that at all 😂 so your just one of those people that think they know what goes on behind the scenes of marvel, what if maybe what if they actually have a good story to tell with RDJ Doom, did you think of that?, of course not you people don’t think at all
@@thasensei5120settle as Doom is recycled Iron Man in a silver suit.
I'm definitely intrigued to see what happens next though
they DEFINITELY should not have cast RDJ. pissed me off
They had no choice, Ant-Man bombed, Majors became 'radioactive', they needed a sure thing to get the nerds pumped.
Nah they definitely should have. The casual fans will love it more than anything else they could have done and they matter the most to the studios at the end of the day because they are the reason a movie does or doesn't make big money. A lot of die hards even love this decision. I get you not liking it, and that's completely fair, but saying it's the wrong decision is just... well wrong.
Well no one cares if you got pissed off or not 💀, you don’t work for marvel so you have no clue what the conversations were like for that casting
@Awarenessss85 Agreed, Disney had a lot of fumbles, financial or otherwise, they needed sure win. How could you go wrong with RDJ
listen bud, NOBODY cares about it pissing u off😭 except maybe the other grown men who seem to have severe OCD and can’t comprehend a change from the comics😂😂
It's so wrong bringing back rdj as doom. It will be a huge distraction from the story going on. Rdj is iron man and no-one will see past that.
But if they’re variants of the same person, then that’s the point. Your point only stands if they aren’t variants.
@sherwood7hp I think the point I'm trying to make very clumsily is that the line between rdj and the Tony stark charater is so blurred by now that whether he's a variant or not people won't see anything but rdj/iron man.
@@sherwood7hp no one wants a "variant" we want Victor Von Doom!
Yessir
Agreed, Ive been saying I wish Marvel would stop announcing castings years in advance for ages - but they just can't resist
Definitely rushed Kang in like one movie and nothing after
Those ants would’ve kicked Thanos’s ass if he didn’t have the infinity stones
My concern is Doom might face a similar challenge in being introduced and pushed too soon.
Nah you don't get it. The movies don't have to follow the comic's rules. Period.
@ no you don’t get It. None of the movies have truly followed the Comic rules. But the early MCU did not go too far astray. RDJ already stated his Doctor Doom is not a variant of Tony Stark. This version of Copium is off the charts.
People are just confused on what is a Variant and what isn't. Most variants would have the same face, but since Sony wanted to have all three Peters together, they had to bend those rules a bit.

Look!"

Kang for me, he must finish what he started, and not someone come finish his work
Kang worked, and the quantumania part did not. The Loki series proved that. Ant-man is too comical to play opposite Kang. C'mon Ryan, you know this, you're not that dense.......

It’s not good. I worked as a Development intern on Iron Man and RDJ was perfect. He is synonymous with being Iron Man. As a comic book fan first. This is Disney BS
I love a unhealthy debate
100% yes... They fumbled the multiverse saga too much. That casting just looks desperate and isn't satisfying
Should've stuck with Kang
Was that Doug at around 15:58?
I was wondering the same thing 😂
I'm sort of on Ryan's side. It probably will be fun, but it'll be more nostalgia bait and not very rewatchable. Doom is one of the greatest villains ever conceived in any media, he deserves to built up the way Thanos was. I also agree Kang had a lot more in the tank, they could have recasted Kang and got back on track. They should have casted a younger guy to play Doom so he could have helped carry the MCU for years.
Bring back Kang!
I utterly disagree with Colton 🧐
Colton and the majority of commentators on this annoying channel gonna get diarrhea from all the crow they eat when they realize how good of an idea this is after they see these movies.
I don't like RDJ as Doom, BUT it made a lot more sense when he compared Victor Timely to Rama-Tut. They have nothing in common other than their face yet they are variants of each other and we'd never question that. Stark and Doom would share the exact same connection.

-Whichever!
Kangs timetravel abilities alloe him to have bill and Ted style wins. Ant man wins "remember the trashcans" and boom trashcans fall on antmans head
Laziest, stupidest casting decision I’ve ever seen. And that saying something after 25 years in Hollywood.
One issue is that we don’t know who the new avengers will be
@garrettmurphy2447 We'll know that pretty soon too. People forgot what patience is :) The avengers are not a team right now. Simple as that. They will assemble again soon.
@@AlexVagdapoint is Marvel have not done a good job of setting up Doomsday and Secret Wars
@@AlexVagdaI’m gonna end it here to avoid this getting heated but I’m gonna keep my expectations low for now. Thanks and have a great day
majors's girlfriend just dropped all charges and claimed it was just to ruin his career. i was so excited to see him as kang i loved him in lovecraft country
I liked Kang and I agree with the RDJ casting being a bad idea.
MCU Kang blows, I don't wanna see the guy who lost four times.

My first thought when I read the title was a scene from Star Trek TNG when Worf responded to the Duras sisters claim he was trying to tarnish their good name…He simply quipped, “You cannot tarnish a rusty blade”
short answer. Yes.
The movie is gonna be good. Y’all just mad because Robert Downey Jr. is Dr. Doom
@@AceJoker1300not an argument
Tell us why it will be good?
What does RDJ do that another actor can't
Have a point not just"u mad "
@@Randomaccount9470 because it is the MULTIVERSE saga! How hard is it for people to grasp this?
@ yes you are right. It’s a waste. Like there’s not 1000,000 good actors out there.
I’m avoiding watching the news for the next 4 years, so that means MORE SCREEN CRUSH!
Watching people have strokes over RDJ playing another character in the mcu is really stupid 😂.
Watching people who watch people is stupid. Hey welcome to the stupid club
I agree with you. They should’ve stuck with Kang, they did him dirty in Antman. Also Doom should have been a different actor, maybe an unknown.
If you feel this way, don’t watch the movie. If you do, you’re the problem, not marvel.
@@will_da_man_ I’m not ur brother in Christ let’s get that straightened out first RDJ Doom Stan
Lmao no
@@will_da_man_why you mad bro 😢😢 Kang is the greatest Marvel villain have fun with RDJ recycled as Doctor Doom 😂
They ruined Doom by casting RDJ when Christoph Waltz would have been PERFECT
He wouldn't have accepted the role
@@Grand_Master12312Bullshit. There hasn't been an actor alive who would turn down the opportunity to be the central focus of Hollywood's biggest franchise
Waltz is a great actor but not threatening in the slightest. Even in Inglorious bastards, he was only threatening because of who was backing him. Without, he was just a scrawny arrogant man
Doom isn't just smart or a magician, he has hands. Certified brawler
@@Hugh_Jannis doom is like iron man and dr strange combined. I think that rdj has already showned that he can do it so he is the safest and great choice. I'm not saying that he can be like dr doom but he is good
15:57 .. I'm sorry, when it comes to MCU movies, I (don't)* just wait years to have a fun watch. I want a build-up, I want a reveal , and I want the execution. Ever since the end game, mcu has been dropping balls. Doom is supposed to be big. I am disappointed that mcu just dropped the Khan saga just because of the actor. Next time, mcu should make a good contract .. rdj is great as Iron Man and just Iron Man. He was and will be Tony stark. But now mcu want to ruin that memory because they can't find ( or just pure laziness) perfect actor for Doom character..
Edited: I forgot (don't)*
With All Due Any One Reads Comics Knows Kang Was NOT Important. You Can Literally Erase Him From History And Marvel Comics Would Still Be The Same
Just think of the fight sequences between the kang’s and kang vs the avengers.
Nah Kang is the way to go
I agree, stop overthinking it...but I also HATE IT when people feel they need to use the word "fun" to describe something. That didn't work for DC.
I don’t even need to watch the vid to know the answer is Yes
didn't marvel already confirm that he's not a variant of tony stark?
While I don't think the casting will ruin Marvel, they certainly could've done something better with their 100 million bucks
I will never be convinced RDJ as doom is a good idea.
I really wish they would keep Kang. Have doom become a God a different way in a later phase or saga
Bring Kang back! Stop writing based on disney morals and follow the comics and don't be stupid
