If the Mercedes vehicle is sound, it's a much better choice than a chop chop multicab. The recondition multicab people are urging you to buy had the top cut off of it in Japan so they could stack more of them on a ship. It was shipped to the Philippines where the top was brazed back on. It would then be converted from RH to LH drive in a process which would never be allowed in a first world country. The dashboard is cut up and reassembled with a hot wire for LH drive. Several wires behind the dash will have to be extended by twisting wires together and taping them. Then the vehicle will be made pretty with new carpet and paint job. There is NO mechanical reconditioning. The brakes are used. The engine may well have the same oil and filter that it arrived at the junkyard in Japan with. That is why they only give 7-21-30 day warranty. I hear that Hilton gives a 90 day warranty but they charge almost double because they do a better job but they still know they are going to have to fix something. Parts for a multicab may not cost much? How many tow trucks in the area? The usual answer is none. I have owned 3 used vehicles in the Philippines, none were multicabs but I had friends who had multicabs. I would buy a multicab in a heartbeat if it hadn't been chopped up and was legal to drive as a RH drive in the Philippines but they are not. I recommend that if someone wants a used Suzuki Carry that they find one that was imported whole, not a chop chop.
Hi, Chris having a car are more than just purchase price. there are a lience fee, Maintainance, fuel, and insurance cost. Are you still within $500 per month budget?
I knew you were on here to cause trouble,I have never come on your site making negative comments or malicious accusations, infact I can't remember the last time I visited your site .You of all people should have more sense than to come on someone else's site and start asking for information that is nothing to do with you and especially when you give no personal details yourself.I have never done a video where I have asked for money,FACT! you are now blocked from this channel.
Have you ever thought of selling the house in the UK and doing what you want now, investing the excess to fund your cost of living? I gather you have no intention of returning there. just a thought.
Good day sir van looks good, how I wish to have one for the church ministry's here in Negros Occidental. The fuel price hikes. This I asked is 1000mercedes van a fuel saver?
1st congrats on the forth-coming baby, 2nd I think Henry is right, from what I see you are going diesel for cost effective reasons, so take a moment, try something like getting prices for spares, and how long they would take to get there, for the merc, common ones, fuel pump alternator, injectors, brake disks, and pads, ( and yep most times you need to change disks around same time as pads) (which you will need to change, frequently). 3rd wish you all the best, which ever way you go.
nice looking van,, Are parts hard to get there for the mercedes? also are repairs allover who can repair it there if yo u break down? and cost of repairs..I'm sure you taken all that into consideration. if it me i would prefer a japanese van.
the new refurbished multi van fits nicely in p.i. and is 1/3 The cost . a bit unsophisticated compared. But affordable. but good luck on what ever you choose.
A Brit in the Philippines Chris Wren sure . just a thought . that's all . we ride around in one of 4 door hatch back vans . me as a front passenger. I'm 6'3" . if I was driving , idk if I would fit . my uncle in law here . an American about my height has the seat moved back . But they are cheaply made and lack power on inclines.
hi chris its a lovely van just what you need if your going to buy a van there you need it to be reliable and Mercedes is the best and that van is very cheap I hope you can get it
You have good intentions.. but this is way bigger than you need.. and i guarantee you will pay heavily for any parts. If you can hold off it will be worth it in the end.. remember the baby will be a extra expense so you don't need auto repairs until your finances improve. Any way just something to think about.
Looks nice Chris. But because it's second hand, you might want to ask the mechanic how much it would cost for maintenance and repairs on a Mercedes vehicle there. German cars are a lot more expensive to own than Japanese cars. That's why here is the US, most cars are Japanese due to easier to get parts and maintenance and repairs are cheaper. Good luck brother. If you don't get this van, go back to the Suzuki or Rusco. I have a friend who owns a Rusco and she's had it for years and it still runs nice. Like anything, it really depends on how to take care of the vehicle.
Hi I've been your subscriber ever since your first Philippine video was uploaded and so please don't think that I'm being negative when I say that it's not a good idea to buy that van. Yes, Mercedes Benz is a very reputable marque BUT in the Philippines cost of maintenance and parts will be very expensive let alone difficult to find! Believe me that guy will be laughing his way to the bank after you bought that vehicle :-( That silver Toyota van parked in the shed is a far better choice if you really wanted a van. Cheers!
Hi Chris! been watching your vlogs for a while now and thank you very much for the effort that you have put into them. I would pass on buying a van mate for a couple of months until you have the money by saving or you really have no choice, secondhand vans in the uk are a lottery in phill they must be the same.and parts for a merc van are expensive chris here,i know i have one. Money is tight, better things to spend it on with the arrival of your child get that licked first and worry about transport afterwards. seems to me that you putting the cart before the horse. but you know you dammed if you do and dammed if you dont. i wish you luck in whatever you decide to do. steve
Hey Chris COngrulations on the baby when is Mel do? ALso chris hat the age gap difference between you and MEl (very normal) Also Chris I was just there in Phillpines in December and funny both of my flights on CATHY PAFFIC all BRITISH PILOTS, every single time with out fail,,,LOL. Injoy Chris. Love the viedos
I have a feeling that vehicle is going to have underlying issues that are going to add to that purchase price and make it a money pit. As Reekay said get a smaller van that serves both yours, melody and the babies needs for now. Mercedes parts aren't cheap here in the UK so I cannot imagine the cost over there. You should be conserving your funds at this time.Children aren't cheap! Not a good idea to sell your Uk home I think.
Sorry to be negative, but if u think a safer transportation of ur own, why don't u try motorcab, and less cost, safe enough for the baby coming, pls don't rush into buying this expensive stuff.. If u don't have enough money to buy one, don't buy one!! You will regret it, having them, it will only give u pleasure for few months, once needs repair it will just double ur bills obviously and expensive.. Using overdraft just not good! Just concern here... When my family move there in few years time, we will defo buy a motorcab? It's a little cheaper and practical :) Good luck..
You should rather buy a brand new one, since buying a new one would save you a lot of money when the damage of the second hand car finally been exposed. A new car is btw also in warranty for at least 3-5 years, and there's no history whatsoever of accidents or anything. There's some cheaper cars that can be bought in installment basis which you can avail by just paying a meager amount of down payment.
Hi Chris I Am a Maltese Australian living in MALTA and i just Subscribed . Chris you f got nice bike Kawasaki is the top bikes for me .i fgot one my self Z1000 . good luck i hope you find someone to buy it, Chris i am sorry to say this to you but i thing you are doing a very big mistake buying that van , in the phill, parts it will be a problem and to find really someone good to fix it. Cars and bikes are my Hobby if you really want a good van or car buy Japanese, dont look at any thing else, Now its up to you,
Good luck Chris, I had a Mercedes sprinter van in England very reliable engines just have a good mechanic Way better than that Suzuki crap 💩 you were looking at.
I always STRONGLY advice foreigners in the Philippines, NOT to buy any 2nd vehicle (car or van) over there because of very poor maintenance. Unless you are prepared to spend (a lot of) additional money to fix things in the (near) future. When you buy there, you don't know the history and track record of the vehicle, people there don't keep track and don't do the required maintenance on time or sometimes not even any maintenance at all due to lack of funds, and they keep running the vehicle until it stops working. In the 12 years that i've been living and coming to the Phils I've seen many foreigners buying 2nd vehicles ending up spending more on fixing things then they the price they actually bought the vehicle for. Usually those problems are hidden and/or pops up after buying the vehicle, sometimes the problem(s) couldn't even being fixed anymore and the vehicle declared to be total loss...
Your welcome. What you might could do in case if you really want to go for a 2nd hand vehicle is to try buying it from a foreigner who owned it from the beginning. Of course that doesn't give 100% guarantees as well, but there is a higher chance that your buying something what has been better (well) maintained and a has a better history of usage then buy it from a local there..
Good luck to you and your lovely wife. We'll be doing a feeding in mountains of Cebu soon. You've inspired me to help others.Trying to work out the details so ill be in touch mate.
