@@Lawlzinator I have no idea, I'm only speculating. I guess they started off with Azula and giving her that name based on its real life connections to the word "blue" in multiple languages, then they made Azulon.
I'm glad they scrapped the armor, I think it's so much more in character for her to not wear any armor, because she probably thinks she's invincible, being as good at firebending as she is. Its also probably way more offputting for an opponent to see her so vulnerable, since she really isnt, and I think that adds to her intimidation factor.
It would be interesting if there’s a powerful fire bending gene on Ursa’s side, and Ozai’s side. And Zuko only got one of the genes, while Azula got both. Azula’s blue flames was aesthetic choice to demonstrate her prodigy status compared to her older brother, who struggled and yearned for his father’s approval. I wonder what those 2 first years were like for him, before Azula was born. But anyway, Azula and Aang were both prodigies. And it’s so interesting to me to see how each of them took that knowledge and led their lives differently accordingly. Azula knew she was a prodigy, but never wanted to be less than perfect. You can see it in the first scene she was practicing lightning bending - she gets angry when she had a single hair out of place. She implicitly feels the need to prove to her mother that she deserved her love, and the only love she got was from her father. BUT Ozai only favored her because of her skills, so Azula equated love to her skills. Perhaps she thought if she could reach a level of perfection she’d finally feel the love she’s been wanting in her heart. When of course her mother valued Zuko more for his compassion and his ability to know when he had to make the right choice (as seen multiple times especially in the first season, where he actively chooses to prioritize his crew or iroh when presented with the opportunity to hunt Aang) Aang on the other hand, was also prodigy… but never wanted to be. He knew being different was pushing all his friends away, and even his teachers. I mean at the end of the day, Gyasto was his lifeline. He will never know that Gyasto came to hid room that night to plan out how he'd stay at the southern air temple. He ran away from himself, his abilities, his home. I mean, to be told "you're prodigy, yeah. But you also have to save the world cause you're the avatar" 4 years before you're supposed to be told? I also would equate being a prodigy to my childhood being destroyed
People saying they'd fear Azula more than Ozai make no sense. As cut throat, skilled and calculating as Azula is. She has shown she is capable of restraint and Mercy. I.E Taking that Kyoshi warrior prisoner. And taking her friends prisoner. Instead of executing them on the spot for their betrayl. Ozai however is a complete savage who takes no prisoners and will maim you just for speaking out of term I.E Zuko.
Azusa learned to redirect lightning. This is an impressive feat, considering she probably learned the technique from observing Zuko. Me: uh zuko learned it from iron who taught him because azusa could lightning bend. But sure a lightning bender wouldn't just naturally learn to bend lighting aimed at her eventually.
You can't normally bend others bending, a fire bender can't take control over another fire benders fire. Iroh created a technique to absorb incoming lightning with one hand, redirect it through his body and out the other hand, a single wrong step and suddenly you lose control over a lightning bolt that is currently inside your body.
Tbf talking about the second fact, azula has seen that technique quite often, from iroh using it, to during zuko's journey to find his mom, they fought many times with most of the times zuko redirecting her lightnings
I still call hacks on her being able to reproduce it without any formal instruction. Her fiery demeanor is nowhere near the flowing mentality of a water bender’s. Without Iroh, Zuko or Aang to teach her the mechanics of it, it should have taken years of contemplation and practical application before she could use a technique that borrows from the style of her natural opposite. Not to mention the little safety warning of not letting the lightning pass through her heart. Honestly, it’s remarkable that even Iroh managed to develop the technique in the first place without suffering a fatal accident from that little hiccup.
I don’t believe Azula is a true villain. She is most definitely misguided. She was manipulated by her father which in my opinion is abuse. Her mother always treated her like she was bad and favored her brother, then she left them with their father. I would like to see her redemption. Azula was as much as a victim as everyone else.
That’s just the reason “in universe” due to the fact that both were prodigies. Azula’s character was definitely created before her grandfather. It’d be like saying Goku was named only due to his fictional grandfather, as if the mythological figure of the monkey king wasn’t relevant in the decision of naming him in any way.
wahhh??? I know the armor looks a bit goofy but Azula having a full-on armor would be hella cool. It fits her better in a way I'd say, since she's such an aggressive fighter Though she'd probably have complications when using lightning and probably prefers being agile than impenetrable
A fact about Azula’s name is that not only is her fire blue and references her name but the a at the end is because in spanish nouns have a gender so her name ends with an A for being female which I think is cool that the creators take spanish grammer into the world
Of course she was the creator's favourite villain, every other villain was either a joke, un-present for most of the series, or on their way to be redeemed
Azula is my spirit animal...I low key rooted for her, but I know Aang was doing the right thing and the fire benders went to far 😅...her ending was so sad😢
Azula might very well be one of the best modern villains to ever be written something about the way she is calm and collected when making threats makes her far more intimidating than a normal villain that credit goes the voice actor but the fact that we can see he is suffering deep down but has no redemption ark (I think she’s too far gone for that anyway) some villains just need to be villains and Azula is a good example of a character that doesn’t need a redemption arc. If anything I’d like to see her comeback from the insanity that has engulfed her

She IS an absolutely prodigy 💙🔥 Incredible she learn how to redirect lightning intuitively and her blue flames are obviously hotter. You can see this blue flame observing your kitchen, the lower flames are blue because they’re burning hotter 💙🔥 I really love her character development and details
The voice actress did a very good job with her
Hmm.. in the show Ozai literally said and I quote : « Just like her grandfather from whom she’s name » 😅
That's the explanation in the show's canon. In real life both Azula and Azulon were probably derived from "Azul"
Watsonian and Doylist explanations
@@Nosjjddjjd exactly
@@johannliebert2870
Nah. If so why is Azulon not associated with blue flames or blue anything?
Maybe bending lies with the X chromosome, so Azula got a bending X from her father and different bending X from her mother.
While Zuko got the bending X from his mother, but a non bending Y from his father.
she is so awesome, my favorite character
Fun fact azul means blue in portuguese as well
Interesting. I assumed it's because Portuguese and Spanish both originate from Latin, but it turns out azul comes from Arabic
Azulão
@@willjackson5885 this happened in Portuguese and Spanish but not the other Latin languages due to the Arabic conquest of the Iberian peninsula during the middle ages.
@@pedrourbano501 I was just about to say that😆
She is one of the best villains in cartoon history I bet
pretty crazy how good of a show avatar is, its been popular since around 2020, im pretty sure it will never stop dying.
Oh kiddo, it's been popular since WAY before then
popular since around 2005*
One of the best characters ever
It's fascinating to know how in depth you can go for each character. Your doubt a very good job!⚘️
I used to think that Azula wasn't destined to be redeemed but thinking back on how Zuko realised his true destiny upon learning about Ruko and him being related, and how Roku in equally in his blood as Sozin, maybe Azula has light in her as well
I wonder if this is a coincidence but there is also folklore that says flames burn blue in the presence of a Witch! But I think it was also symbolic of her cold, psychopathic nature.
And in th9w real life, Blue flames come from a perfect combustion, they are hotter than the orange ones and can burn faster
Dabi from My Hero Academia 🔥 💙
I wanted an Azula redemption arc so badly, but I guess everyone can’t be redeemed.
"I swear, if they're gonna mention that her name means blue in Spanish as a fact you DIDN'T KN-"
*literally the first one*
I have heard Grey Delisle's voice growing up many times but her role as Azula is what made it so impactful for me. I pretty much recognize her now everytime I hear her voice. She also played Ming Hua from the Red Lotus later in LOK
The VA even created one of the most hilarious cursed jokes with azula and zuko 🤣
What was it?

I didn't know she was the co creators favorite villain. Thats pretty cool. She is a very good villain for sure. She's a great character in general really.
Man I remember I was so down bad for azula when I was a kid 😂
When of course her mother valued Zuko more for his compassion and his ability to know when he had to make the right choice (as seen multiple times especially in the first season, where he actively chooses to prioritize his crew or iroh when presented with the opportunity to hunt Aang)
Aang on the other hand, was also prodigy… but never wanted to be.
Imo Azula was indeed the best and smartest villain in the whole franchise.
Taking down the armour *definitely* portraited how strategic she was in battle and how sly
I just like how this short shows off Azula's feet as soon as it starts.
Azula's 6th fact: she has some of the best nsfw art work made for any cartoon character you could find online.
Wtf
People saying they'd fear Azula more than Ozai make no sense. As cut throat, skilled and calculating as Azula is. She has shown she is capable of restraint and Mercy.
I.E Taking that Kyoshi warrior prisoner. And taking her friends prisoner. Instead of executing them on the spot for their betrayl. Ozai however is a complete savage who takes no prisoners and will maim you just for speaking out of term I.E Zuko.
Oh yeah I would say compared to her father she was alot more kind.
@qbgrindddd like I said. Make no sense
Azula is my favorite villain off all time
Azusa learned to redirect lightning.
Azusa?
i liked this insight into the cast. it really ‘humanised’ them and showed us them beyond the camera/ persona. this would be good as a podcast
Pretty sure everyone and their aunt knew her voice actress
Azula is a very well written character and i like her a lot!
Grey was also the voice of the Voerman sisters
Her and Chan were so cute together
Azula was a great character and the voice actress is flawless... god damn, every single thing about the first avatar series is goat
Why does Azula look like she’s having a really good time in the thumbnail?
Iroh also directed her lightning away at the beginning of the second book.
I mean there is a reason why azula is called a prodigy.

Luv your videos ❤
She's pretty hot for a villain
Fact 6: Azula is hot as hell
she's one of my most favorite villain of all time
I don’t believe Azula is a true villain. She is most definitely misguided. She was manipulated by her father which in my opinion is abuse. Her mother always treated her like she was bad and favored her brother, then she left them with their father. I would like to see her redemption. Azula was as much as a victim as everyone else.
Azula was such a well written character. Same can be said about all Characters in the series.
Hey she is my crush okay 😂😂💯
I love how you have a strong voice you sound so mature
She was named Azula by her father so he could kiss up to his father, Fire Lord Azulon
That armour look great bro, imagine if make her wear that during agony kai but she later take it off before they fight
Thank you for actually putting stuff down that people may not have noticed
I had a crush on azula as a kid
I looooove Azula's voice. Its so unique and threatening. She is my favorite villian of all time. ❤ Seriously! Lol
I think the blue fire is the form of her hatred represented in the form as fire
no it’s literally been stated that her flames burn hotter tf she’s the strongest fire bender stop being delusional
@@Geminitwizz first off this was a year ago, and second of all your being rude as hell
Azula is one of the greatest villains in animation!
wahhh???
I know the armor looks a bit goofy but Azula having a full-on armor would be hella cool.
It fits her better in a way I'd say, since she's such an aggressive fighter
Though she'd probably have complications when using lightning and probably prefers being agile than impenetrable
A fact about Azula’s name is that not only is her fire blue and references her name but the a at the end is because in spanish nouns have a gender so her name ends with an A for being female which I think is cool that the creators take spanish grammer into the world
The authors planned to give her a storyline of arranged marriage.
Also voiced the girl of the basket of cherries
She's one of my all time fave villains ❤
stuff gonna be so crazy when broda discovers azul is a word in latin and not in spanish 🔥🔥
Of course she was the creator's favourite villain, every other villain was either a joke, un-present for most of the series, or on their way to be redeemed
in todays times she could make a fortune by selling her footcheese
i met grey!! she’s just the sweetest person ever and signed my art
She’s also named after her grandfather Azulong.
Your voice is so soothing im in love with you❤
She is a top tier villain for sure.
The phoenix armour would have been so bad ass it looks amazing!!!
I wouldve loved for her to get her shit together. A series about her and Zuko figuring out the mystery of their mom would be amazing.
Azula is my spirit animal...I low key rooted for her, but I know Aang was doing the right thing and the fire benders went to far 😅...her ending was so sad😢
Fact 6, Azula has given me unhealthy expectations in women
Azula might very well be one of the best modern villains to ever be written something about the way she is calm and collected when making threats makes her far more intimidating than a normal villain that credit goes the voice actor but the fact that we can see he is suffering deep down but has no redemption ark (I think she’s too far gone for that anyway) some villains just need to be villains and Azula is a good example of a character that doesn’t need a redemption arc. If anything I’d like to see her comeback from the insanity that has engulfed her
Azula my cartoon crush
