Good on you, bro ❤️

I cant be the only one that feels like korrasami was not forced at all. They started off as friends and grew closer over the course of the show, especially during season 4. The whole thing felt natural to me and I don’t think it came out of no where.
It's just subtle enough that I think you could pretty easily miss it. Of the three reactors I've watched react to Korra all the way through, two of them didn't see it coming, and the one that did was an actual lesbian couple, so
Why? Because Korra was a tomboy & Asami rode & motorcycle & was a scientist?
Same. And I like that in the series they only they made a hint on their future relationship. A lot of people forget that they didnt start to date in the end of cartoon
you are not the only one
It was forced because it was the end. They made an already unliked avatar into a last stupid memory. She was a slut, plain and simple.
I think most people hated the lesbian reveal at the end of Kora for two reasons: either because people felt it was forced or they wanted to see more of the relationship developing
Technically that could be the Beginning of their relationship, or the begging of her realising that she is Bisexual.
Edit: It was actually foreshadowed all the way back in Season 1
Pretty much, yeah.
Nothing was forced, they pointed towards it for the entire last season
@@JimmyNails27 plus it was a slow build up if you notice very carefully
Tbh, with the reveal of Asami and Korra's relationship, it felt like just another retrospective "oh yeah, they were gay" statement just to make them seem more woke, so I had a very negative opinion of it for a long time. I was very tired of token gay characters, characters whose entire personality was just 🌈IMGAYLOOK🌈, and other half-assed representation to make them look woke.
Korra really said: I'm mrs take yo bitch💀
kyoshi is such a badass and her story is just fantastic as well.
Ima kyoshi fan
Yeah i want a spin-off series about her story
Too bad she's gay
@@dimazfantasy5252fr, she’s probably my favorite. And would have liked to see her personal side come out more too. Some backstory
To the people saying that the korrasami reveal feels forced or out of the blue, I'd like to remind you that the reason there was not as much build up as some of us would have liked was because of the push back to represent queer characters at the time, especially in children's media. Korrasami was really kind of a starting point to push for more solid representation and to hold it to the standards of today is unfair. We were lucky to even get the hints we got and then the flat out confirmation so soon after the show aired.
Exactly this! Korrasami even predates Steven Universe's confirmation of Ruby/Sapphire relationship by a few months.
This! And to add some details, in the fourth season, Korra was recovering mentally and physically from s3 finale+other events and Asami was building up her company, and not to mention the whole thing with Kuvira. Do ppl think this is the time where both of em would have been like ”well I’m gonna use my pick up lines and get that girl😏😉”. And after the final battle is over, and they both have grown during the events, they decide to get on a journey together.
In ATLA there weren’t that much of romance either between Katara and Aang, just little hints and throw away lines, but ppl still saw their relationship coming from a mile away.
I believe that Korasami was the first LGBT couple in children’s animated shows which was even more lucky for us
People don't realize that we are living in a VERY new renaissance of queer media. Only a decade ago (less than half a decade before TLOK), Ugly Betty was criticized for including a kiss between two male teenagers -- and that show might as well have had a "THIS IS A GAY SHOW" sticker on it. Before that, and even after (depending on the program), LGBTQ+ characters had to be codified or would not be allowed at all.
Of course TLOK couldn't give a full, fleshed-out romance plot.
yep thats why all media is going bankrupted cuz they picked a side that doesnt pay or watch stuff like this lmao Good job helping kill shows and movies @@zammich3649
Didn't Sozin banned gay sex because Roku left him?😂
absolutely

@@CXOJ556 keep telling yourself that 😆
The chemistry Sozin and Roku had is romantic. At least coming from Sozin. So yeah, it's pretty safe to say that because of being rejected by Roku he repressed his sexuality to the extent of repressing everybody's.
Rangi and Kyoshi were probably the best written romance in avatar universe and one of my favourite in media in general. They deeply cared about eachother, helped eachother in fight and daily life, they never were uncomfortably lovey dovey and whole thier development felt just real. I really hope we will get more content about them
i mean out of 10k years worth of lives there has to be at least a couple gay avatars
You know, I love Kya, I relate to her a lot by keeping her orientation personal. I really feel like it’s a personal manner.
People often get upset at me for not waving pride flags or going to parades, but those have never felt right for me. I sometimes feel like in this modern world people are trying to exploit my orientation, whether it’s Politicians trying to seem woke, or business trying to give me a useless product, just cause it’s rainbow and June.

A very sensible person
You're basically me. Sometimes I feel like all rainbow is overkill I'm glad to call myself bi but that doesnt mean I'd like to announce. Its normal imo and me as a person is more that a sexual orientation category.
Thank you for including that Nickolodeon didn't let the writers of Korra make Asami and Korra's relationship more clear. I remember being 14 and hoping every week of the final season's release that'd we get more Korra and Asami together. I wish we could have seen a LoK made without studio censorship!
Of course Nickolodeon wont include it. Its a kid show. How will the parents explain it to their kids if they show it.
Nickelodeon didn’t really accept the LGBTQ community into their shows until The Loud House when it was revealed Clyde had two dads, and it was welcomed with open arms ever since since it was very well-received. Personally I’m not gay or bisexual, I’m as straight as a board, but I’m very glad that LGBTQ is becoming more accepted and common now in animation.

Their still many parts of the world that is not ready for that type of change and some may never change, only time will tell when those countries accept LGBTQ
They just dont want the force representation and the problem of them west
To be honest at first I was no clue how did Korrasami came out .But then I rewatched the whole show with a mind that how it will end and I could clearly see the hints that an author put. It is just the show was too censored and I can understand why for a lot of ppl it was not convenient at all
Tbh KorraSami was too subtle that it was very easy to miss the hints. I was like where was this pairing came out
As someone's who's been out of the closet about their bisexuality since 2014, I'm honestly surprised about just how much bi representation this series had. Knew about Korra despite not watching all of it, but I totally forgot Kyoshi was bisexual. Glad to see this, MovieFlame. I love your videos. 🥰
Nickelodeon has since allowed LGBTQ characters in some of it's other shows since then, Like the Loud House being the biggest example.
Kyoshi wasn't in the shows much so was revealed outside the TV show. Instead, it was in the comics, novels and the show creators reveal.

@@Simplebtd how?
As somebody who has written and self published 2 novels, I can appreciate (regardless if I agree with it or not) the complexity of characterization and storylines. What I felt, especially with Korra and Asami, is the genuine love they have for each other. That's not something you can not feel when you see/read the stories. I appreciate the videos you do.
Excuse me, but I'm writing a book and may I ask how many chapters should I make??

I always hated those that try to force or shame people onto being 'private'
Like, seriously. Everything about straight relationships is gossiped about, fantasized and even celebrated with more than one party thrown in the honor of the bride, the groom and both from bachelor/Bachelorette parties to baby showers, bridal showers, wedding showers, hell, there's even divorce parties to help people get over bad break ups.
But rlto say there's nothing to celebrate in gay relationships is just absurd when they are the exact same things that people look for in relationships, just with the obvious being with someone of the same gender, and to say that you can't even talk about is a huge sign of an asshole society.
Bro is gay😂😂😂😂🚮🚮🚮
Most people aren't gay. You can go cry about it to the government but nothing you say will ever make me comfortable around people who can't even accept themselves.
C'mon, we all know sozin banned homosexuality because roku didnt like him back
THIS 😭😭
I’m not gonna lie, when I was young I thought same sex relationships were unnatural and shouldn’t be encouraged, but as I realized that as long as the couple is happy with who they end up with and aren’t hurting anyone, then it shouldn’t really matter. And watching the shows and reading the comics(along with watching other shows and movies with same sex relationships like Gravity Falls The Loud House and The Owl House)was a big part in helping me realize how toxic that mindset really is. Because of that, even though I’m not gay, I’m not against other people for being gay and they should be allowed to date who they want if it makes them happy. And now I heavily encourage people to date and marry who the love regardless of gender.
I was like that when I was a kid as well
Actually as a kid I never thought about it and was only introduced to it when I found one of the characters in a book I read was gay, and it was in a positive view, so yeah. I'm not part of the LGBTQ+ community, but I support it, always had
Edit, after a year: I am now pan and demi-
same
I am gay and even I thought like that as a kid
Me too
The way I view same sex relationships is everyone is falling in love with who they want to fall in love with no matter their gender and I may be straight but I will always accept someone who is gay, straight or anything they want to be because that’s who they are
Wise words, indeed
bruh in my opinion, people should be more like the air nomads, nobody cares what orientation they are, and they dont make a big deal of it
I think it could be an interesting part of the universe if the fire nation use the fact the air nomads are open to same sex couples as a reason for "justifying" making it a crime
something along the lines of saying it showed sympathy with the enemy
it sounds like something they would do
When you think about, doesn’t it more since for the Avatar to be bi or gay? They have multiple lives both as both men and women. So they’ll definitely have multiple partners
Not really. The Avatars were all different people with different personalities. They don't share the same feelings or unsavory sexual orientations
Those saying "This isn't appropriate for children" etc. Where were you when he made videos about heterosexual ships? My 11 y/o brother is gay and was always afraid of coming out but representation like this in many other stories too helped him accept himself. Biggest examples are Avatar, Nico from Percy Jackson and Miraculous Ladybug - All these are kids stories with AMAZING queer representation. If it doesn't apply to you doesn't mean it doesn't apply to other people. If you can't say something good then stfu.
And she-ra too!!
yeah representation like this can help people feel good about being themselves, yet people still think "smh stop shoving this lgbt bullshit into these childfriendly shows its not relevant to the plot >:("
@@princessgoingdigital.mp4 maybe, haven't seen it
🤓🤓🤓
We dont care if u are gay or not
kyoshi is a literal bicon
Considering they're jumping back to Yangchen for the novels, I'm not sure they're going to continue Kyoshi's story (in this format at least).
I’m a bisexual woman and I think that the bisexual end to korra was kind of out of the blue I think the writers dropped the ball. I want to the comments their bisexual not lesbian (nothing against lesbians).
I used to think that, but have since changed my mind.
I think you can look at their relationship as one where two friends slowly develop feelings for one another. The kiss was basically the beginning of their relationship and the realization that they loved each other romantically as well as platonically. It's also pretty typical of people who are demiromantic to not show signs of romantic attraction until later. Their relationship doesn't have a typical trajectory, but it doesn't necessarily come out of no where.
I mean, you can pretty much thank Nickelodeon for that. They pushed back against the writers on it, but with it being the last season they said "screw it" and put it in anyways since Nick couldn't exactly cancel the show at that point
Well thats nickelodions fault, story wouldve had more LGBTQIA+ characters if they could.
As he said in the video, Nikelodeon restricted them so much so that the moment at the end felt like it came out of nowhere, if they would have gotten their way I'm sure there would have been more buildup to it. And he did mention that Korra is bisexual
Yes the creator shouldn't have made them canon just because the studio was homophobic.
Of course, now they have a more diverse group of gay characters now that they've become more independent and it doesn't seem like such a cop out to me. I still wish there could have been more moments, even if they were subtle, earlier on in the series of either Asami or Korra being interested in the same sex, but I can understand series being stifled by producers.
(Gotta make a contribution to the algorithm gods, so, reposting this here too 🙏)
Unfortunately, Nick fought them on the gay issue, so they had to keep it on the DL. they finally went out on the last episode because what are they going to do to cancel the show? But now that they have their own studio, they can finally go all out.
Yeah, but you gotta remember in those days it was hard to get gay characters out so publicly. We're lucky we even got that ending.
To me Korra and Asami were definetely not just gay characters. Just like other characters, they have multiple sides, and especially Korra goes through a lot of character growth, which was so beautiful to see. And they both have their own personalities which I love.
I don't really see why it would need to be hinted earlier on - Korra had two other love interests at the time, right, and it's not like straight characters are constantly showing that they're straight either, unless they are specifically written to show interest in other people all the time (Sokka). Like, think about Zuko, I think technically his interest in women isn't revealed until Book 2 Episode 15 of ATLA? Before that he isn't really concerned with romance
The idea that you'd be able to "tell" that someone is bi or gay before they ever meet a character of the same gender that they get a chance to develop a closer bond with seems strange to me, which female character could she have shown interest in early on in the series? I think it'd have been way *worse* if they had written in another character for the sole purpose of "showing Korra is bi", or rushed her relationship with Asami, which imo felt really natural, only developing later
@@newsoupvialt I mostly say that because it's nice when a series hints at things slower on. It's kinda like proof of "We planned something like this from the get go" sort of thing. It makes it seem more genuine than just having the vaguest of hints in only the last season before just stating outright that they're gay. It doesn't matter now, since in retrospect we can see their intentions were genuine, but having hints to a character's sexuality earlier on would have made it seem less out of the blue.
Granted, I'm not a writer so idk how I would even want to see such hinting executed, and I didn't have much interest in Korra by the time the last season came around. I was only really watching it because I don't like not knowing how a series will end.
Another reason being gay was probably very easy for Air Nomads was the gender-segregation in the air temples: north and south for men, east and west for women. Also, they didn't tie nuclear families to reproduction and probably didn't even have the notion of marriage, so nobody could argue "how will you have kids".
Korra and Asami are a lot like Velma and Marcie from Scooby Doo: Mystery Incorporated. in Season 1 of MI the creators tried having Velma and Shaggy in a relationship, but they didn't work out like Fred and Daphne do. Throughout season 1, Velma was practically questioning her sexuality during her on again, off again relationship with Shaggy. In season 2, while Mystery Inc was on a temporary split, Velma spends time with Marcie, who was one of the villains in season 1, but the two had a mutual understanding. Yet Mystery Incorporated was another show where the creators were not permitted by the network to portray same-sex couples at that time.

You don't "turn" a sexuality or gender orientation, thats your born and given neurobiology. If you're trying to tell us watching enough pride flags would make you experiment with homosexuality, then just say you're queer, otherwise recognize being straight as the way you were born, and something others don't get "turned" from either.

I’m not 🏳️🌈 myself but I have plenty of friends who are who looked to Korra, Asami, & Kyoshi as shining examples.
In fact my niece has a GF and she said “We’re just like Korra & Asami now, right?”
Granted her parents made a huge deal about it, embarrassing her to no end, but those two have my full support. I’m looking forward to knowing more about Kyoshi’s journey in hopefully more novels.
The impact that all this had, especially Korrasami, is undeniable.
I'm still in love with people's reactions to seeing our dream come true. The stories I've heard, the inspiration they provided, the mark they left on thousands of people...
It was thanks to Korrasami that I was able to accept myself as I am, and it's something so special. And it's wonderful that so many people share similar experiences.
All of this speaks to Korrasami being made with love. They fought against everything to give us this beautiful story, and this was revolutionary, it is and will always be present.

“It’s quite sad” Said Morgan, I’am studing history with special focus on historical white and strath washing of history, so I feel confident enough to say, even though I only am bisexual and have only been in one gay relationship, and where the worst thing I experienced was that my father repeatedly called me a sissy and that my brother kept telling homophobic jokes, as well as suggest that it all just was my atutism that had made me confused about whether I was a man or a woman, "gay history is univasally quite sad and still is."
As always good work, i like your videos a lot.

That really sucks
May i say, that you’re not ”only bisexual” and your bad experiences with your family are not only a few little things that have happened or something. Even one bad experience is too much, and we bisexuals are just as queer and an important part of this community as everybody else❤️🏳️🌈
Most of history wasn't "white- straight" washed. Democrats were freaking evil, for sure. Many people of all walks came together to boot them down. Why people support them today is beyond me.

Thank you for covering this. You explain very clearly and I wish we could see more of Kya in her youth. Especially that big getaway with her girlfriend. I think that your list turned me away from the Kiyoshi novels though, as they fall into the trope of having a bisexual female lead in whose story the male love interest is literally gotten rid of. These stories often seem to be a no-brainer when it comes to bisexual female leads. At best it’s a messy breakup at worst the Male love interest dies. 😔😔😔 I think we can all agree that there should be more such characters. The number should go into the double digits. Right? 🏳️🌈

for everyone thats like "oh its being shoved in my face what happened to this family friendly channel" this channel discusses straight relationships too. its like 50% of the channel or something. also, its not being shoved in your face, heterosexuality appears way more than homosexuality in LITERALLY ANYTHING. anything with a love interest that is the opposite gender is heterosexuality. think about how many more things youve seen like that than this.
It is bad if I like more het ships than slash one?

When I was younger the Legend of Korra helped me embrace my sexuality. Being a bisexual myself, it really felt good seeing the main character in a series I loved being together with a male and later down the road developing romantic feelings for a female. I since then came out to my friends and family, including cousin, who got me into Avatar in the first place and she was so supportive and said I was really brave. I have to give credit for the series for helping me for figuring out my sexuality and embracing myself of who I was❤
