@@stunner9005 That's Ozai's fault though. Ozai rewarded and praised her worst impulses. Would he allow Ursa to get help for Azula? Of course not. In fact, as a child, Azula avoids her mother and not the other way around. Because Ursa actually punishes her for her bad behavior and saw the signs before anyone else did. When Azula has a psychotic episode, Ursa isn't the center for no reason. To actually get a psychotic episode, there is usually a mental illness already present. Before her breakdown, Ursa was probably the only adult who spoke of her mental health. When she did break, people started taking the same approach as Ursa, so naturally she became convinced it was lie told to everyone by Ursa. Instead of people just getting the same conclusion.
After my umpteenth rewatch of the show, I realized how well they contrasted Zuko's family to Sokka and Katara's. The families both have two kids, the brother is older but the sister acts older, and lost their moms when they were young. Paired with the fact that they are fire and water too? I have nothing but appreciation for this writing
And both their Fathers were leaders in the war, the brothers wanted to prove themselves to their fathers, and the absence of their mothers had a negative impact on their families (particularly on the daughters).
Fucking yes my guy already watched season 1 and 2 but I already bought and watched season 3 on prime 😭 like a week before they brought it back 😭😭 but they can atleast take the avatar movie off of Netflix
The relationship between Zuko and his mother feels so heartbreakingly real. The way it's written just shows how much genuine love there is between the two. The writers did an incredible job of telling the story of a highly abusive family, and keeping in mind the constant emotional battles of such, even though a much larger, far more dramatic conflict is going on. Zuko was always my favourite character because I'm a sucker for angsty emo shit, but he's one of the only characters who actually does this part in a very relatable, realistic and meaningful way. He's not edgy and broodyfor the sake of being so. He has rich relationships and a backstory and he actaully grows as a character, and he grows far more than yo'ud expect someone else of his archetype to
Yes, yes, yes, & YES! EDIT: He comes from a very troubled past. These internal dynamics create a lot of complex layers, a result of incredible storytelling.
And decided to forget about his son. I would do the same thing to her if I was zuko, I would just think about Mai and forget about my mother and say I just need Mai and nobody else.
Zuko's character development was so amazing. I loved it. I do wish they put what happened to his mother in the show instead of a comic book but hey I still enjoyed reading them. Glad you are switching up the content. :)
They were originally planning to make the finding Zuko's mom story into a few TV episodes (that would have been amazing), but I think Nick cheapened out. Again.
Azula turned out like that because she received no love from her parents. Though her mother loved her, she does not show her love to Azula as she did with Zuko. And the father Ozai was only interested in power, which made Azula feel like she had to prove that she was more powerful than everyone else. I feel bad about how Azula's life turned out...
Azula and Zuko had the same life but reacted differently. Azula had a more darker nature, even at a young age. Which begs the question, why? Was it a mental disorder? Was she deranged from birth? yes there are many factors that played into this, as you said her mother favored zuko more, but I think that’s because azula was so different from her brother. She enjoyed his pain, and the father was harder on Zuko, which is why she made up for that by showing him extra love. Either way you slice it it’s just sad.
Azula is a true psychopath, that was shown from the beginning and throughout. Her mother never stopped loving her. And yeah, that is how psychology, and physiology works.
I agree. Azula Was jealous of Zuko's special treatment and favored her dad's sense of power that he desire. She won her dad's interest by being strong. That drove her mad because she still didn't receive love. She had to work really hard to gain very little of it. She even tried to hook up with a cute guy but she had no concept of love and told the dude she wanted to destroy the world with him. Dude got scared and ran away. I feel for Azula a bit more than Zuko. Azula was mentally and emotionally abused. Zuko was just Physically abused.
Honestly I would have preferred this as a spin off over legend of korra.... korra was OK but the original story just hits u in the feels Also ozai sucks ..... ......................................................... Also I always had a theory on how lu ten really died ....What if ozai had zhao who was probably in the fire nation army at that time but in a lesser rank orchestrate lu ten's death, with the promise to a promotion in ranks and power. It would make sense if that's how it happened because Ozai would need it to appear as an accident in order to go to his father and ask for the throne......just my two cents
@@bookedroomer Korra had potential............that's it. I didn't like the retcon to the avatar world with wan and the evil and good spirit. I didn't mind Amon but.....why did he want to cleanse the world of Benders? His motivation was somewhere. Season 2 had an undeserved and kinda dumb ending but I liked every thing up to avatar wan. I genuinely enjoyed season 3 it was the only season that felt like avatar to me for some reason. The villain was kinda dumb like your this smart and spiritual but you didn't know the results of anarchy the main goal of your group honestly I kinda hoped they would've captured Korra as a kid seems like a more interesting story. Then season 4 was okay I liked the villain she had a good goal to stop the power vacuum and bring peace cause the avatar wasn't doing it. She accepted the means and honestly she was the villain because she was a dick. The asami Korra thing i loved not cause I'm lgbt but because all of Korra scenes with mako were.....garbage. Trinity and neo from the matrix had more chemistry. So yeah Korra usually had good set up to disappointing endings
I often hear people claim that Ozai loved Azula and hated Zuko, with Ursa being the reverse, but I don't think that second one is true at all. Ozai loved Azula because of her natural bending talents, and Zuko's seeming lack of bending abilities at a young age is why Ozai was so abusive (well, before reading the letter). Because she was loved by her father, Azula loved him in turn and sought to please him, and that's why she was the way she was. Ursa, on the other hand, loved both of her children and tried to give them what they needed. Zuko needed protection from his abusive father. Azula needed moral instruction to keep her from going down her father's depraved path. Of course, given that she was so accustomed to praise from her father, rebuke would have felt like hatred.
I don’t think Ozai loved any of his children. I mean yeah he favored Azula for her abilities and disliked Zuko for not being the fire bending prodigy Azula was. But I don’t think he truly loved Azula, she was nothing more than a war tool to him.
But I do think Ursa was too critical of Azula (not as bad as Ozai was to Zuko, obviously, but then again we already stablished Ozai was a complete asshole) and most of her interactions were she calling Azula out on her behavior and encouraging Zuko. For a little girl, that could have been quite sad, to be honest, we don't really see much of Ursa's and Azula's relationship, but what we saw was kind of sad, it would be very hurtful to hear your own mother say "what is wrong with that child"
I would literally do ANYTHING for them to just continue and animate the comics. Probably wouldn't work because of the voice actors being older or gone but I just love the avatar storyline and universe so much.
They could make a movie or something, don't think the comics are long enough to make a season out of it, but a movie for sure. The colonies arc and finding Zukos mom would make a fine movie.
Also, Zuko wonders why he never had a relationship with Azula like Sokka and Katara had. From the moment he meets Kiyi, he gets along with her and has a positive sibling relationship, where as Azula is mean about Kiyi's doll in the first moment they meet. Ursa, Iroh, Ikem and Kiyi have shown Zuko the positive side to family and I think it's rather sweet.
Because Azula has resented him throughout their entire lives, always believing that her mother loved him and didn’t love her. This is actually a common theme in abusive familys, one sibling being praised more than the other. Ursa favored Zuko and Ozai favored Azula, resulting in both of them developing major mental issues down the line. The only difference is Azula actually did love her children, whereas Ozai only ever valued them as weapons.
I'm still so sad that Nickelodeon voted for a new series (Legend of Korra) rather than a continuation of ATLA. This would have been so sick as an animated version!
N. Traveler they had to end it when they did... with almost all of the world at peace and no war it would have been hard to continually put out good plots and might have got stale... instead they cut it off and Incased it as one of the best animated shows of all time
I wish they would've just left the whole thing alone. End it with TLA. LoK was garbage. The fact that I heard they put some stupid shit in it like having her bisexual or lesbian or whatever actually disgusted me. Why do they always do these stupid things? It only makes them look ridiculous, also repels viewers. I re-watched TLA six times, only touched one episode of LoK.
@@kytten4506 i think some people that worked on last Airbender also worked on Korra. Many people think that just because korra didn't live up to the expectations of the first series, that it was a bad show. The Legend of Korra wasn't a bad show at all
Nah. Avatar Aang and Avatar Roku are not related. They are members of the Avatar Cycle. Aang is from Air bending temples. Its the same man but not the same bloodline.
That's what actually happened. This guy is creating his own imagination of what happened. But in all logics, that's what happened. Took death for her only boy.
When I found out that Ursa was Roku's granddaughter I felt really sad for her. Forced to marry Ozai, being unhappy even with her children, seeing Azula become more like her father everyday. To start a new life. It's like Roku's family didn't really get to live in peace. Say what you will about her decision to leave her children, but you can't deny that she also got screwed over because of Firelord Sozin's choices.
The whole plot about Ursa being Roku's granddaughter has a few glaring holes in it. TV tropes' Writers Cannot Do Math / Western Animation page has a section discussing how there aren't enough generations in Ursa's family to span the 100 year war.
Uniseal x now that you mention it.. ursa and her boyfriends relationship is like if snape stayed nice and if james stayed bad and at the end snape got the girl
I think Ursa is my favorite Avatar character. Shes an amazing mother, a good human, and overall shes just amazing and strong. She went through so much and at the end of it all confronted her past, made a good present, and secured a safer future for her and her family, including both her first and second family.
She’s a mother that showed love to only one of her kids. She’s honestly no different than Ozai. She made it very clear that she’s didn’t like azula even though azula was just a kid. Then acts surprised when that same kid she left with Ozai turns out to be crazy..
Aang is connected to Roku as the Avatar, but he is his own person with his own lineage. So no, not really, but it explains why Zuko and Aang's story and development paralleled each other throughout the show. Aang's vision before Zuko joins his group is of himself being submerged underwater, staring up at Zuko who is standing on the surface. They are also connected, and I feel that is by Roku
@@recoveringintrovert717 i gotta disagree the avatars are reincarnation they share a soul so they are the same person which is why aang can turn into roku sometimes but they are also separate people
-.- this actually opens up a problem for this story. If Roku is Zuko's great grandfather how could 100 years have passed between Aang being pronounced avatar and the events of the last airbender? Roku was an old man when he died, his granddaughter, Zuko's mom, would have undoubtedly been born by that time, before Aang was born, so she would have to be over 112 years old. Even if she wasn't born for another 30 years, i.e. her mother or father was still in the womb when Roku died, she would still be around 70 years old by the time Aang emerged from the iceberg which means she would have given birth to Zuko when she was 54. Even if her parents waited until they were in their 50s to have her, she would still have been in her 30s when she gave birth to Zuko. In their world marriage seems to happen before the age of 20, meaning it would have been 10+ years between them getting married and Zuko being born. There's just too many things that don't make sense in the story for her to be Roku's granddaughter. Great granddaughter or great great granddaughter yes, granddaughter no.
It gets me a little sad when some fans viewed Ursa as a horrible mother after The Search came out. Ursa made a painful choice, she was in a no win situation before she married Ozai and she was in a no win situation during her marriage, nor was she in one after she left. She suffered much like her son, but was given a choice to live a new life and be reborn. Then when her past came back, she chose to face it as her true self and has shown regret. Ursa is human, she did accepted the only path that she thought was open to her. and in the end, she found happiness and even more so after she remembered herself. She has had a wonderful story arc in The Search and Smoke and Shadow. I only hope the next story arc will give her proper closure with her daughter Azula
Seriously? A spoiled abusive man holds her children hostage and forces her to abandon them making her past too unbearable to face? And fans view Ursa as the horrible parent? Do they not remember that Ozai scarred and banished his son and mentally manipulated his own daughter? Do they not remember that he told his own son he was lucky to be born as well? Oh, but Ursa making a deal to save her son from being killed by the man who had no problem of doing it is the shitty parent. Fuck off "fans."
@@youwhat. dude this happens in reality and 99.9 percent of the time they never see their kids again, its not exactly horrible to want to forget your immense pains.
I feel like the spirit in this that changes their faces kind of sounds like Koh, the face stealer spirit that Aang has to face and make no emotions too...
I definitely thought the same thing when I first learned what happened to ursa. however, I think that koh is more apathetic to the issues of mortals. he is the face 'stealer' after all. the mother of faces sounds so caring and actually sympathetic towards people and especially ursa. sorry for nerding out but I couldn't resist lol
I do agree with that but I also think ursa should have also treated her daughter as well as she treated Zuko, I mean whatever it was azula was just a young girl needing her mother’s love
@@zukofanclub She did love Azula it was just that Azula caused a lot of trouble around and Ursa scolded her for that. She truly did love her, but Azula's personality and Ozai made Ursa not commit to her as she did with Zuko.
Abigayle Thompson Yes. Sozin-> Azulon-> Iroh & Ozai-> Lu Ten Zuko and Azula-> Izumi -> Iroh II That should be the family tree of just Sozin‘s side if I did not forget anyone.
I think it's so sad that Azula doesn't remember that her mother kissed her goodbye before she left, I think that if she remembered that she wouldn't have gone insane. Also, I understand Ursas pain to don't be able so see her children, but to choose to forget them isn't in my opinion a good mothers decision.
Definitely. And after they met againsg, and her memory came it is not hard to understand how zuka and zula felt she always hug and worry about her daughter . They are also your child how can you say " I didn't like you enough!'
that would make Azula just resentful or hateful, but she had gone completely mad and was probably a sociopath from the start, that doesn't mean that her story wasn't sad but i think she still might have gone insane eventually regardless.
Water. Earth. Fire. Air. Long ago, the four nations lived together in harmony. Then, everything changed when the Fire Nation attacked. Only the Avatar, master of all four elements, could stop them, but when the world needed him most, he vanished. A hundred years passed and my brother and I discovered the new Avatar, an airbender named Aang. And although his airbending skills are great, he has a lot to learn before he's ready to save anyone. But I believe *Aang can save the world*
Even though that the avatar show doesn't have some kind of instrumental soundtrack like so many other shows, I really don't care because it is these words spoken from Katara in this intro that makes me hyped to see the show.
levilla she's a bitch because her daughter would rather murder innocent people and follow the teachings of a sadistic monster? She's a bitch because she was ripped away from her home her friends her parents the only man she truly loved and was forced to marry a monster just because she was the granddaughter of avatar Roku? She's not a bitch she's a victim
@@shadowblitzo123 Perhaps Ursa did do some wrong things like purposely forgetting her children and not giving enough affection to Azula but no one in the Avatar Universe is perfect.

That was just 3-4 years, not most of his life. Since During the series Zuko makes it known that he’s been banished for 3 years and the timeline for series itself was less than 1 year
@@greetingsearth387 I think she leaves at the time of Zuko's banishment because that's when she trades his life for a scar with Ozai with the promise that she would make a poison that would kill Ozai's father.
Namrita Ghuman No, that happens after Ozai tries to get Azulon to revoke Irohs birthright so soon after Lu Ten dies. That’s why Azulon makes Ozai sacrifice Zuko, but Ursa stepped in and made the poison to kill Azulon, and then she was banished.

The fact that Ursa even said to Zuko “I didn’t love you enough” broke my heart
I thought she did...
Yea, it proves that she really did love both of her children equally with all her heart, even though, unfortunately, Azulla was evil.
Ch G. I’m pretty sure she loved zuko more
Oh
@@nanaway4074 debatable I think rather she just got along with Zuko easier because he had her personality.
Chandan k that’s not true. It was just her nature. Zuko went through the same thing but he reacted differently
Azula was a bad breed from she was born, like Damien in the Omen!
Honestly I would have preferred this as a spin off over legend of korra.... korra was OK but the original story just hits u in the feels
Also ozai sucks .....
.........................................................
I feel u broo, i never got to into korra either
Just read the ATLA comics
The comics themselves wouldn’t have had enough material Korra is very different from the original but it was still good
@@bookedroomer Korra had potential............that's it.
Didnt they say they were coming back to pick up where they left off with the original tho? There's a whole video about it.
100% agree
Yes Azula was also a victim of abuse from her father too. I hope she one day gets a redemption arc
I don’t think Ozai loved any of his children. I mean yeah he favored Azula for her abilities and disliked Zuko for not being the fire bending prodigy Azula was. But I don’t think he truly loved Azula, she was nothing more than a war tool to him.
Arianna Rose I agree, considering Ozai had no qualms killing his father or Zuko, I have nothing but sympathy for Azula.
NOPE
THEYRE STILL HERE
ITS POSSIBLE MAN
@@blackbed5108 Their voices must've changed tho,But it's possible
They could make a movie or something, don't think the comics are long enough to make a season out of it, but a movie for sure. The colonies arc and finding Zukos mom would make a fine movie.

Not nostalgia. Just quality storytelling. Us still liking the show is not just for sentimental value.
Inferior Inferno true zuko deserves it 🥺
Because of Azula's tormented relationship with her mother...
Cause Zuko’s a cinnamon roll :3
Because Azula has resented him throughout their entire lives, always believing that her mother loved him and didn’t love her. This is actually a common theme in abusive familys, one sibling being praised more than the other. Ursa favored Zuko and Ozai favored Azula, resulting in both of them developing major mental issues down the line. The only difference is Azula actually did love her children, whereas Ozai only ever valued them as weapons.
nico dovahkin You mean Ursa loved her children, Azula never had children

The fact that I heard they put some stupid shit in it like having her bisexual or lesbian or whatever actually disgusted me. Why do they always do these stupid things? so... Aang is Zuko's great-grandfather (on his mother's side). That gives the story new meaning.
Lauryn Ziebarth Never looked at it that way. But I suppose, yes.

I always wanted to know more about Ursa, thank you for telling her backstory. I’ve always hated Ozai, I feel so bad for Ursa. She had to marry someone who was so cruel and cold-hearted.
Did you not watch the episode where Zuko finds out his great-grandfather's past? Iro tells him at the end that Sozon was one of them, but Roku was the other.
@@Mia_M I know, zuko finding that out literally played a huge role in his decision to turn against his father. Dunno how she missed that lol
They did reveal in the original series that she was the granddaughter of avatar roku. That's old info
Ikem couldve chosen a better face 🙄
en cee He didn’t get to choose his face though ???? The Mother of Faces didn’t just pop out a face catalogue and say, “Take your pick”.😂😂😂😂
@@hattieshank1276 LOL
Yall im dying😂😂
@@hattieshank1276 "oOOooH good pick"
Do you care about your face or life?
"She became very scared and very paranoid."
Me when I see a cockroach at 2 AM eating cereal:
The best fight was zuko azula and katara at the end. Such an amazing end to the fight between zuko and azula
It looked bad ass to
I know, I cried. Lol. It was so powerful.
I love the music in that fight..
I wish she just did blood bending to Azula tho...
It's been A Long Time Since you uploaded Avatar Airbender Videos. It's nice to bring them back.
This could have been a entire book
It was a comic lol basically an entire book...
@@alvinanis3006 I think he means an entire season
Ursa is a great mother and I feel so bad for what happened to her it makes me cry.She went through so much but she still had hope and it is just sad and sickening to see what ozai did to her.She really deserves are the happiness in the world.it kills me to know that this is/was her life.
This story is so fucking horrible so sad and so tragic it makes me sick and goddamnit it's so damn good. These types of stories is why I LOVE the Avatar series and why it should be considered the best Cartoon of all time
Delta kai09 its more then just a cartoon love the avatar series
Augustus Freeman She’s human. Not a perfect person like we had been led to believe but a normal human being with the same flaws that all humans have.
@@animalia5554 Shes Human and not perfect which Makes her the perfect character
I love how much detail and real history went into Avatar.
Back then, women and marriage were used for strictly political reasons.
@@forgotmyun Exactly so it was all the more sad that she basically had to be given away
Back at the times we thought that Zuko was the villain........
he even allied with Azula at some point, too
In the first few episodes of atla, I wanted him to be thrown overboard and never come back
I feel bad for Zuko because hes watching his mother care and love for her child while he was abandoned and deprived her love for most of his life
That was just 3-4 years, not most of his life. Since During the series Zuko makes it known that he’s been banished for 3 years and the timeline for series itself was less than 1 year
Namrita Ghuman but she left a while before zuko was banished.
I feel bad for azuarl
That moment you realize Aang is Zuko’s great grandfather
Inika Sharma Avatar Roku is Zuko’s great grandfather and Aang is his reincarnation so ya
Wil G close enough
That moment when you realize Korra is Tenzin's dad and Katara's husband.
@@quizzlybear 🤣🤣🤣
I actually want a older version of team aangvatar as a show
no
@@MCNagStaR same, just no
Just as long as it isn't made with sjw's the. Characters need to remain true to canon and not new aged
There is something called the legend of kora
@@fariszuberi349 already knew that....
"What is wrong with that child?"
A good question indeed.
This just blew my mind that this video was over 17 mins long it felt more like 5 and I’m almost certain I watched the whole thing without blinking 😭💀💀
She’s so essential to Zuko and his arc. Without her and Iroh’s influence, I doubt he would have turned out the way he did in the end.
I thought she died in the show. Thanks for making me feel better cuz I always got sad when they said that. But last time I saw it I was 7
Haven't you seen season 3?
@@MyDemon32 I have but I haven't seen it in a long time
@@MyDemon32 To be fair, I initially thought Ozai was lying just to toy with Zuko when he said she was alive.
My brother and I would watch every episode together and read the books to each other. We don’t get along well and are quite distant now but we were never closer than when we were children watching our favorite show. It was hard to let go of The last Airbender.
This really breaks my heart because I know what you are talking about. A bond between siblings is unique and beautiful than any bonds we form in our lives. My heart aches
mythical kingdom 😔🙏🙏
Humility over Pride ❤️
it doesnt have to end this way. You can see its sequel, which is Avatar: The Legend Of Korra
Let go?!?
Who else is watching this after finishing all three seasons from Netflix?
I’m really happy because in like 2 years Netflix is supposed to release a move action series of avatar the last aribender with 3 seasons
I just started the series
Nola Nyer Zuko is a mf shawty
Too bad they miss book 4 , Air.
I'm sorry you had to watch that terrible SD quality from 2005
