Yoga in a Cast (Gentle flow for Leg Injury)

  • In this video, we will dive into a gentle yoga class for foot or leg injury, particularly for those with a cast on your foot or leg.
    This class is for all levels and its purpose is to make sure we maintain our body active even though we are in a cast.
    After some research, personal experience as well as talking with some physiotherapists, I figured how traumatic and difficult it is to start rehab after the cast is gone. To start moving your body even before the cast is gone is essential for a more effective and fast recovery.

    Love this. Broken ankle at the moment. So used to exercising and yoga with both legs but now feel I can keep going with yoga as part of my adapted exercise regime. ❤

    Wow, this was the best I have felt since breaking my ankle 3 weeks ago, both on a physical and mental level. I started crying in the middle out of sheer relief. Thank you thank you thank you!

    Thank you so much! This is one of the very best classes I've done since breaking my foot and ankle 4 weeks ago. Wonderful pace, just the right amount of exertion, stretching and relaxing. It is heartening to see an instructor in a boot/cast- since there is no questio what can/can't be done with these limitations. Best wishes to everyone for a full recovery💛

    I had a daily yoga practice up into 4.5 weeks ago when I had foot surgery. I've lost so much flexibility and muscle tone in the last month. This morning I finally felt ready to get back on the mat and looked for a yoga video just like this one. Thank you so much! I really needed this.

    I found this video when I broke my ankle. It gave me a choice of exercise instead of sedentary lifestyle . I did exercise with video everyday for 4months. Thank you Joa! You helped my physical and mental condition.

    This class was exactly what I needed mentally and physically. Thank you so very much. First fractured bone in 67 yrs. in April. Fractured my R metatarsal (dancer's break). I'm an avid walker and yoga practitioner so this injury has been challenging for me especially with a 9 mo old German Shepherd puppy. So grateful I found you and will continue with this class for my healing. With gratitude 🙏

    Wonderful! I have been in a cast for 7 weeks (5 more to go) and am finally allowed to put some weight on it. This was just what I needed!!

    Yes! Great simple video with a clear usable approach. Hope your foot is feeling better. Mine is broken, but I might still use this even after the cast comes off.

    HI, Thank you for the video! Could you possibly do a longer class for a foot injury? 30 minutes isn't quite enough for me! ( I broke my foot 4 weeks ago but I had been doing yoga regularly before that.)

      I repeated this for the entire 3 weeks I had my cast and it truly made a difference of strength when I finally walked again. Hope y’all feel the same and heal 🙂💜

    That was incredible. This practice will help me immeasurably on my healing journey (grade 2 lateral ankle sprain/grade 1 high ankle sprain). In a boot for a couple more weeks. I was practicing yoga twice daily prior to my injury. Now I know I still can, but the practice will look a bit different.
    I'm wondering if you could do a slightly more intense general strengthening practice? I have watched a couple other instructors who made videos while they were in a boot but they are not as intentional and attentive as yours!!

    I'm doing so well with my recovery because of this video. I can tell my upper body & core have gotten stronger. I would love it if you did a non weight bearing full body strengthening video!

    😊Thank you so so much for this class. I broke 2 ankle bones and have a cast. Your yoga class has helped my body and mind so much. My body was longing for movement and stretching and although I practice yoga I couldn’t figure out what to do till I found your class. It’s also great for bringing strength and energy to the poorly part of my body. ☺️🪷

    Not in a cast, but am in a splint, no weight on the foot after ankle surgery. This was great! I definitely don’t have your flexibility in the hips, but I’m probably at least twice your age.

    I had a regular practice up to 12.5.24 when I fractured my MT V and my wrist from a fall. I didn't need surgery on my foot. After how long can one start exploring virasana again? I know each case is different but I would appreciate your advice.
    Thank you so much for this video. I could do it even with a cast on my hand. The cat cow pose was done with elbow on the mat. :)

      Thank you for sharing, it really depends on person to person. I would say to ask for medical advice, and also listen to your body, as it will tell you when you're physically ready 😊
      Cat/cow on elbows is a great modification, you can keep doing that until you're fully healed. The benefits of the modification are the same as regular cat/cow
