8:01 "Luckily all the screws here are the same size" Wait that doesn't sound like Apple to me
Apple back at the time this MacBook was made wasn't the same Apple there is now
Yeah, I've disintergrated an old HP laptop and I counted at least 6 different screw types....some of them were almost identical except the length. Oh that was a real mess.

I once had one of these MacBooks. It was so slow, so I replaced the HDD with a SSD and upgradet the RAM from 2GB to 5GB. After that, this old white thing was nearly as fast as a new MacBook. This was amazing.
Yogi good to know, good to know
I still use a mid 2010 mac and it is the only laptop I have ever owned. I upgraded the ram from 2gb to 8gb and I have replaced the battery but it still has the original hard drive and it is surprisingly fast, im quite proud of the condition I have managed to keep it in. especially seen as I still use it intensively on a daily basis
Me too!! I use it currently
@@autonomousecollective current mac-books everything( except battery) is soldered to the mother board, I believe that next year Apple will find a way to solder battery as well.

Diesel_the_drip its always trial and error when we doing it for the first time, i was like that, but now, i can do it better now.
I remember I had exactly like this one that I bought back in October of 2010 for $999. Over the years I had many downs and ups with this laptop even with every upgrade it got more and more slower so I say “the hell with it” and purchased a 480GB SSD and 16GB maxed out RAM from OWC. It was pretty expensive and it ran like a Bugatti. Boots in less then 15 seconds and it was ready for anything. Just a couple of graphics tweaks to make it better and it was golden for a few year. I loved it so much and then one day I got into a car wreak and the driver who wreaked me stole my bag with this laptop, another smaller Chromebook for light focused tasks, a Lenovo tablet and a big power pack from Anker. To this day I’ve been without it for over 3 years and I still do dearly miss it. I wish to get it back or get another one and do the same process I did back then. That’s how deep the love for that laptop went. :)
I didn’t realize these could handle 16 gig, I thought they maxed at 8
Garrett Reyman Oh no according to OWC (macsales.com) the Mid 2010 maxes out at 16GB of RAM others max out at 8 they have a comprehensive list of all the Mac laptops and their capabilities
Garrett Reyman Not really no according to OWC macsales.com they have a complete list of all the upgradeable macs and have noted that most after 2010 can use up to 16GB capacity
I have the exact one i can ship to you for 200 plus shipping fees ?
Wicked Marine Records That’s great unfortunately do to my circumstances I won’t be able to pay for it atm since with my situation is making it difficult to do anything I’ll put it on hold for now but thank you anyways

I never knew cleaning a Macbook was so entertaining.
I subscribed with notifications on and like the video.
It shows that laptops are actually very interesting indeed
Its great how you put the effort into these restorations, instead of just replacing the case like most people do. Great work!
Damn. Very nice cleaning, Hugh! I still have and use this Mac as to date, every once a while since I bought it in 2009 as my 1st Mac ever. The rubber bottom surely is dirty by now, but not this dirty. And logic board areas only dusty on the fans, will try to re-paste it for the 1st time, thanks for the tips!
Everyone: This thing is unfixable
Hugh: Hold my spudger!

99$?, I paid like 25€ for the same one, with same tools.
That must be 99AUD not USD
@@shivangsingh8417 still double the money
@@srixplsv.881 Shipping to AUS can get expensive real quick
Also, prices down there are pretty insane in general
euro has a much higher value then AUD so you’re basically paying the same price in most cases
Okay, so with Hugh his work it's absolutely not profitable in any way shape or form. BUT THEN UA-cam! His content is the money earner. That's what his channel is based on. In any normal situation dropping $99 on a battery for a 2010 MB is outlandish. But because he did people won't call the video half in the bag and the video will be successful and make that back in no time at all. He did a very good job with it I must say. Mid-2010 MB's are actually pretty good machines to run now adays because of MacOS 10.13. The only issue I had with the video was the fact he dropped $100 on a new battery, $50 on a SSD, but then REFUSES TO UPGRADE THE RAM BECAUSE "At the time ram is expensive." DDR3. DDR freaking 3. The max that machine can run is 16gb. to get 2 sticks of DDR3 8GB is like $40 in total. To get AT LEAST 8GB of total ram would be $20! The difference of 4GB and 8GB is what makes the entire computer worth it. Hearing that ruined it for me, HE WAS THAT CLOSE to making a good machine, dropped $150 on a battery and SSD and says "4GB is fine." Shame.
I bloody love your videos. Thanks Hugh.
I have to say these tiny vacuum units my grandpa uses to clean his keyboard (weekly!) might be helpful with the dust on the inside since the suction is rather gentle and the nuzzle(?) very small, there are also some with brushes. Good job! I had that MacBook, too, and good god, the state this one here was in...
Deja vu: I could swear i saw this video a few weeks ago... I remember it because of the stickers on the lap... Weird.

Great work man and so satisfying to watch 🍻
Great video! Small tip: When removing stickers, the best option is to use acetone, or nail polish remover which has acetone in it. It takes much less time compared to using ethyl or isopropyl alcohol
Uh no, bad idea to use acetone on plastic. I spilled a little on the cover while doing my nails, it melted the plastic.
I personally use eucalyptus oil (unironically) and paper towel, just scrub it out.
It was probably used by one of those children who got treated like a god instead of teached basic manners including the respective use of what you get.
These are probably growing up to be choosing beggers...

GREAT Job. My very first MacBook was that generation. I've since gone through two more MacBooks since that time, with my current one being purchased in 2020 and has the M1 chip. I use my Mac quite extensively giving them a life span of about 5 or 6 years before needing to be replaced.
