I hope my reaction showed how much this meant to me. I was already ecstatic just to be in a video, but when you told me that it was my computer, I think my reaction speaks for itself. Thanks for being a great friend, and thank you so much for a new computer!
What a genuine and appreciative man, Joe is. You can tell he is so delighted with his new laptop. Thank you from me because you are a amn with a big heart and that is rare today.
I love the fact that you gave this MacBook to a friend in need who will obviously appreciate it. However, I’d sure like to see a cost breakdown on the parts you ordered from FleaBay versus the going price of a nice condition comparable model to see if it is actually a wise choice to rebuild or to just salvage the parts.
Older MBPs are repairable. Later ones are deliberately designed and built for the landfill. This is the end of a series of ecologically conscious MBPs Apple built. They’re classics and repairing the trashed late 2013 one was well worth Luke’s time.
@@NormanF62 I don’t see why he couldn’t do the same thing with the newest m1 mac for example? Everything is basically the same apart from removable ssd and he would need to transfer touch id button?
@@jhonjhon1740 We only see patchers up to Catalina on dosdude1's personal website, and Catalina is the latest and last version of macOS X. There is no Big Sur patcher, meaning it will be likely there will be no Monterey patcher that will be released by dosdude1. We could be wrong, for all we know.
These Late 2013 15" Retina MacBook's really hold up to time. These things breeze through web browsing and day to day tasks. I was able to pick one of these up locally for $200 and there's no way any $200 windows laptop even compares to these. Sad to see it wont be supported in Mac OS Monterey though.
Hey Luke, I was wondering if you have a detailed "step by step" video and/or description on just how you update the hard drives to SSD's including how to upgrade the OS? Thanks.
I don't know what I liked more. Your good samaritan efforts or the repairing of the MacBook Pro? Good work sir and I hope more blessings rain down on you. Especially with these acts of kindness. (:
It's amazing that I watch all these repair videos. Got a cup of coffee and watched like Luke has never done this before. Good video! Again it was fun IMHO.
I am still waiting for the video where Luke shows us the dead MacBook and then states the question: "So, can we repair this Macbook?" and than says: "No". And it all just in 1 first minute and the other 10 to 15 minutes are just black screen with some background music lofi or chill or something. That would be the best prank, idea for April 1 btw.
Luke have such a good heart ❤️! He made a good guy very happy, and in this video Luke's showed, how good people should care for an other, great job Luke, love❤your videos, thank you so much!😊
He didn't show the tiny little latches you flip up to release the keyboard and fan connectors. Very important, I wish I had known about that when I was working on my MacBook.
I have noticed that the Magsafe port has a bit of some thermal layer to prevent overheating.I realised this after I cleaned it considering it "goop" and the port and charger got destroyed due to excessive heating
I know you collect them and probably have an entire storage unit filled with these things but it'd be cool to see some giveaways for sure! I know my grandparents are in need of a new computer and setting them up with something like a Mac where the chances of them screwing things up like they do with Windows are virtually nil would be sick!
Great job! The evolution of MBP's within the last few years is simply amazing, and with that; Apple's clear intention of making their laptops unrepairable seems beyond evil and greedy.
Thanks for your opinion, but if you look after them, Apple's machines seem to last a bit longer than a comparable PC. I have a 13" Macbook Pro from 2009 that still works and am typing this on a 2014 iMac which is running like it was new. If they were so "evil and greedy", wouldn't Apple make their computers less reliable and long-lasting?
This is the same higher end late 2013 MacBook Pro Retina 15” Intel i7 quad core dedicated graphics I have. Seriously, this is the best high end MBP Apple built with 16 MB RAM and a 1 TB SSD drive. Hi Luke, I was wondering how hard it is to swap the logic board in a Retina MacBook Pro for a better one, and what device you would recommend starting with if I wanted to learn how to repair and upgrade Macs? *LOVED* the video by the way -- watching old content is _really_ fun!
Do you have a place to find these MacBook Pro Retina displays other than eBay? The pricing for the display is almost worth as much as my MacBook Pro. I have this same laptop and my display is partially broken with lines running through it. Was wondering if you had any idea or connections to find retina LCD displays that would work? Great Video Luke! Keep it up brother, I follow all your content and I appreciate your videos.
