For ANYONE struggling with texturing in Substance Painter, I've got your back
Hopefully you don’t have a turn with this rimlight ^^ nice work :)
Id like to learn how to do this in such a way that the high lights, glow, and flat shadows move organically and react to in scene lighting when animating.
Any tips or tutorials?
@@togglemutt9892 For that you simply don't paint the light shades.. just paint the model base colors... when animating, you'd use a yellow light and that would give the effect you need
@@ferdraun
thank you ♡
Love your work!
Sometimes UA-cam recommendation gives me *exactly* what I need.
This man did this all in 1 layer what a champ. But not easy edit now.
Really really appreciated! Not many artists explains or want to explain their workflow and how to get started with technical stuff, truly helped
very awesome tutorial! i used to hand-paint textures in substance but when i tried hand-painting in 3d-coat, with all its painting features, tools, blending, shortcuts, it saved huge amount of time for me
Hey! Could you please tell me where to learn 3d coat hand painting?
This is a REALLY nicely done tutorial. The music choice, the model, the lack of quick cuts.. I enjoyed it! Very well done!
Glad you liked it!
This is absolutely amazing great job
Me: a 2D artist
Omg! This is the reason I seriously need to start 3D!
Did you do it 👀
@@eloigenier3839 It's in the plan of my next project : D but let's finish the big one I'm doing right now first! ; )
Me: a 3D artist
Omg! This is the reason I seriously need to start hand painting in digital :D
I've been meaning to try stylized handpainting and this helped me a lot! Thank you so much
I would like yo watch more of this kind of videos.
Wow!! I have never seen this method. Very good results.
This is pretty yet not complicated/ hard to work on. Thanks for the inspiration!
Exactly what I'm currently in need for. Did some hand painted stuff, but never really got colors blended into each other
I had the same problem as you, I really struggled with it. Glad Tristan was kind enough to do a breakdown for us.
great work!
This look gorgeous
Its beautiful! So happy more people are using SP for handpainting now.
beautiful. thank you
Took some notes. Have some time and a good uv map on a coffee cup. Giving it a go.
So I searched for "handpainted substance painter".
This is first in the list.
Thank you and have a good one.
Pls do more of these peaceful silent painting videos, it was so beautiful and satisfying to watch. I am new to your channel and I love your work but I don't know much about it, can you please help me with my doubt? Do you have tutorials for complete beginner ( like a full course on texturing - everything that is related to texturing in 3d )?
Awsome!
Great tutorial. Great contribution. You have my like. Thank you so much. Greetings
This is so cool i have been wondering how to do hand painted textures in substance and this helped me a lot. Can you please make a video in which you would talk about Life is Strange art style and probably texture a simple prop with Life is Strange art style ? That would be great :D Thank you
Great suggestion! I really love that art style
@@StylizedStation still waiting for a tutorial related to life is strange art style :)
Incredible result, I just learned a new method of work for Substance !
I am also a little bit confused because this working method prevents us from changing our point of view
All this work for one specific angle only, I don't know if you see what I mean ^^
Thank you for sharing this content It is really appreciated !!!
Hi there. Original artist from the tutorial here. The reason you can only really view this artwork from the one angle is because the concept I used had such strong lighting coming from that one side, so I decided I did only want to render from the same angle as seen in the concept. However, if you use a concept with more ambient or top-down lighting, then this painting method works fine for a model that you would view from multiple angles such as in a game. Hope that helps answer your question!
Круто, спасибо :)
You should be feeling right now this is the next Photoshop Painting of the future
I will tell you "probably not" because Adobe wants to sell you both Photoshop and Substance Painter.
@@thepokekid01 I already have both and more, easy peasy lemon squeezy
hey thank for the tutorial :) where did you get the alpha (knife 01) thank you :)
Great great tutorial! I mostly do my hand painted textures in Photoshop or Blender, but Blender texture painting capabilities are very limited or sometimes it just doesn't work (for example if a zoom in too much, I can't paint anymore). I was searching for a good alternative to Blender so my question is: I'm interested into hand painted texturing the old way, I just want to paint I don't want the software to generate them so which one is better, Substance Painter or 3D Coat?
i know this is super old but substance is better probably for ur use case
I want to be able to do this so bad but I don't seem to be able to get my head around creating UVs/texture maps? I'm still learning the sculpting parts in zbrush tho
I didn't understand how to do the gradient colors and smooth them
This is awesome! As someone that uses fill layers and masks to do hand painted it gave me anxiety watching you paint on one layer tho xD
Same here, but I guess one layer painting comes from experience and confidence
How do we put the reference picture there?
In minute 2:00, how do you paint in wireframe ?
Hey there, Stylized Station! I've tried to "paint" in Substance Painter, but whenever I get into it, the program tends to lag quite a lot. Even tho I set the texture resolution to something as small as 1024. Any idea what I can do about it? Thanks
Lots of factors that can affect this, your PC performance, model density etc... I'd recommend hopping over to the Substance painter help forums and seeing if the pros have a more concrete answer for you :)
forum.substance3d.com/
whats the difference painting in substance than blender ?
please tell me, how to render a 3D view (Base color) in 4-8K in Substance Painter or "how to render it"?
Great stuff. Is this model available to practice on? Sometimes not clear if the model is available in the Coloring Book or by link or not at all. Thanks
This model isn't available in the coloring book
this is realy cool! but i gotta ask, how did you include the reference?
Hi there, artist from the tutorial here. I used the free software called PureRef that allows you to pin reference images to your screen!
@@tristanmcguire5936 oh, thank you for the (quick) answer!
this will be saving me so much time, I tried to search for it but all I could find for substance is that you have to open a picture on another screen or resize substance every time you want to pick a color, this will be super helpful!
@@SpikedSpy_ You're welcome, glad I could be of help! It is a very useful tool, especially for colour picking
palette without hot key is a mockery
How do you set up that reference image to use the color picker?
PureRef can pin reference
I cant find alpha brush knife 01 ???
What song is the BG music? pleaseee
Still waiting for the texturing tutorial for Blender...
How do you get the Ref Picture to stay there?
Hi there, artist from the tutorial here. With your PureRef scene open and positioned in the location where you would like it to stay, right click anywhere in the scene and choose mode > transparent to mouse (or cntrl+T) and the scene will now stay on top of any other applications and will not be affected by the cursor!
Can this be done in blender?
背景音乐好听
Why don't you open(float) the palette window?
Choosing a color picking looks so uncomfortable
What are these music tracks and where can I find them? Please and thanks!

Calm Waters by Purrple Cat
Why my wireframe look tessellated?
awesome video- coupe of questions .
- can you assign materials to these textures now?
Is it possible to set up lighting in Substance painter? Or would you export this over to C4D/Blender for that?
- can you export this polygonal mesh with the colours on over to Blender/C4D and assign textures to the mesh there? then light the model accordingly
Thanks 😊
i think he select base color view with wireframe mode on. in base color view, you can only see flat color without any shading
so how do you export this to use with a model just wondering? I'm new but if I paint like this and export, won't it only give me a texture? how would I then use this in unity with a character model, I would need a material to add to it right?
can we please get that song name lol
Purrple Cat - Calm Waters, for future use stuff, turn up your headphones and put your iPhone (idk if android can do it, but probably?) next to it and say "Hey Siri, whats this song?"
@@cosmicrailgun Android just rolled out a feature that can do this too now! I'll try to remember to add the music in the description in the future.
Hello. Do you profit from these models? I hope the answer is honest, and how is that?
First just need to learn to be… creative 😅
This is great! I actually created something similar using procedural textures not too long ago using a very similar reference.
Check it out over at www.artstation.com/artwork/3ddWeE
Good work on the VFX 🤜
Nah man I'll just wait till I can do this in blender
it kinda baffles me that there's no blur tool in this program
Are you forgetting about the blur tools within the filters?
um voice over for sponsor segment but not actual video content?
gratitude, this is a demonstration of workflow of what you can do with substance - so you really need to know every technical step? be creative experiment with brushes, I watch tutorial in other languages, silent videos and I'm going to tell you that just because they're not vocal or foreign does not mean you cant learn
Also sometimes the artist isn't comfortable speaking english.
@J Jackson dude
If you're looking for a recipe where you need to know how the artist paints every brush stroke, This isn't for you and no need for complaining. It's not like you're entitled to the voice over just because you watched a sponsored video. This is showcasing the artist's workflow and how he approaches hand painting.
Just play music and we all gonna learn dummy
