Hi friends!! Let me know if you guys are interested in more episodes like this! Or how I could adapt it to make it more helpful. It was so fun for me to think about each of your spaces, thank you!!❤️
I would love to see more videos like this one. It is great to learn new things and be entertained especially at my age, 74 years old soon to be 75. I love your other vids, flogs and I think you are adorable and so real. Thank you.
Honestly, one of my favorite things about you is that you’re so mindful of others. Even just acknowledging how vulnerable it can make a person to submit their space. You’re good people. 💜
The first place is mine. 😄Thanks so much for the recommendations, especially about centering a storage unit. I did end up doing two sofas, mainly out of anxiety about not having enough seating😅. And it is primarily a conversation zone, especially for dinner parties. But you're right, two chairs would have kept it feeling more open. Love the banquet suggestion with a small table! Thank you so much! It's so cool that you did this. 😊
i think that's wonderful! i can completely see that being a great setup for you. and YOU live in the space, so you know what works in there for your flow. I hope everyone can keep in mind that FULL in depth design advice from me or anyone would require hours (days) of discussion / many more questions about your needs, lifestyle, habits, routine, preferences etc. Since these videos dont allow for that, I'm aiming to share my best guesses and some universal principles that could apply to lots of spaces. All that to say - I am SO glad you went with your gut, because you have a ton more information at your disposal - and your gut is usually right! i never regret leaning into my intuition and i'm glad you did for your space. 🧡🙌major kudos to you. definitely send progress pics if you feel like it down the road!
I'm seeing these vids as lovely conversation starters...the concrete spaces better illustrate the thinking behind the principles we can all apply if we feel like it. I love this! So useful and fun.
Omg that's my room!!! And I'm going on a Mt Ranier hike today! Loved this video girl and so happy that you're sharing your words of wisdom!! Gonna get to work on finding a giant art piece now 😂
Ah thanks for sending it in!! You have a great space, so calming, which I always love ❤️ have a great hike, and definitely send me progress photos as your room evolves!
I recommend checking out some 2020-2021 Mr Kate interior makeovers - before she moved to hawaii, her signature thing in every makeover video was that she did a piece of art with the person living i the space. There's a ton of huge art pieces, she never had the same technique twice, and it was always super beginner friendly/failproof bc almost everyone she did makeovers would be like "i can't do art!" And she'd be like sure you can lol
I've used shower curtains stapled and framed on a huge canvas for huge art. So cool. Society 6 has some amazing shower curtains with any style. Good luck.
I loved this, this could be a series for sure. It’s definitely helpful to hear your thought process and how your break down each room’s advantages and problems. Usually I like or dislike a room but I don’t normally know why, it helps to get the design perspective. Also after watching this I plan to use “leggy” as an adjective for furniture more often.
Your comments about never apologizing for what you have etc… are so good! I think we often all feel so insecure about what we have in our homes and are afraid to ask for help in fear we’ll be judged. You did an amazing job of encouraging them and offering real life, practical solutions. Awesome job! 😊👏
My roommate bought a massive piece of art and it hangs directly in front of me when I'm doing yoga. I had no idea it would be so impactful! It's abstract and I have several spots on it that I use to focus on when doing balancing poses and it's such a lovely way to make my yoga practice even better (in response to space #2) * also more of these please
Oh man that’s amazing to hear! I never know how these will land and was so scared to share it. I’ll definitely make more now! Thanks for letting me know❤️❤️
She is truly such an inspiration. I love interior design and getting new ideas from people. Her style and her eye for things is impeccable. She is incredibly talented, and her videos are just so therapeutic and beautifully executed. If I could sit down and have coffee with her ; my life would be made. Happy Saturday
Love the bangs, love this format. Love that you're using your skills to help other people. I think people should also realize that you've done a lot of videos on thrifting and Facebook marketplace Etc so that some of these more expensive pieces that they might need to buy to complete their space could be much more affordable than just ordering something online. In addition you've done at least one piece that I can remember where you made art. Then all you got to do is go to a thrift store and find a frame. So a lot of this can be much more affordable and I'm not sure that comes through in this video... but I encourage anyone reading this to watch the prior videos.🙂
So true Lisa!! Obviously i complete agree because 80% of my home is decorated from FB marketplace or thrift. And I love it. Ideally, I think a mix is always best, and more affordable! Just gotta be patient and willing to dig a little 😊thanks for sharing this!❤️
The UA-cam algorithm is coming in hot today: it recommended this video, which I'm happy to have stumbled across, because you did a really great job of explaining design concepts in ways that people can translate to their own spaces, your humor is wonderful, and I love all of the advice you gave. I love this format of video and would love to see more of it. ALSO, you HAVE to get this comment all the time, but you remind me so much of Jennifer Aniston it's insane -- your voice, mannerisms, appearance, etc.
lol today we thank the algorithm for bringing us together 🙌im so glad you liked the video! (i only started hearing the Jennifer anniston comparison - esp voice- once i started making youtube videos, just all of a sudden. i aint mad about it)
@@noone-re3zp I started watching and was like, "But this has to be Jennifer??" hahaha. It's not just you! But also, big shout out to Caroline for *not* being Jennifer and being hella cool in other ways.
This video was such a great idea! I think everything was so practical but fun for the individual spaces. I would love to see more if you have the time. It's very useful to hear your thought/design process.
I used the dresser you recommended as a changing table! It’s amazing and it will grow with my boys as they get older 😊 such a great video. Would love to submit my own.
This video was approached in such a respectful and insightful manner. So often I feel like design videos are purposefully extra about how much they hate when others do things in their own home. This was such a refreshing departure from that vibe. Love it! 👏🏼
My only comment about two couches for Shawan would be the "flow" would be better with a couch against one wall, then two chairs with their backs to the windows. It would mean anyone going from one area to the other wouldn't have to walk around a couch to sit and watch TV, but could go right between the chairs. I *love* the idea of the built-ins around the windows for seating and storage! So smart. The legginess comment blew my mind. THAT's what's been bothering me about my friend's living room! We've been discussing what it is that feels off. Instant subscribe, though this is the first video of yours I've seen.
I loved this video! You should do more of them! 1. I appreciate that you gave A LOT of design inspiration, 3 design options is a lot more than one really thorough makeover. 2. And I loved how you talked us through it: in a discussion of BONES not STYLE, its so helpful to see how to place furniture in different rooms. Your comments about all of us “doing our best” helps me be kinder to myself! I’d love to see this style of video about once a month, if that’s feasible. Lastly, the bangs are ADORABLE! You look super sleek and polished!
I know this will be modern cliché but it's true: Caroline I came for the Street Man romance and stayed for the most helpful and relatable interior design advice I've ever come across. If 700 comments wasn't enough...YES I'd love for you to do more videos like this!! I got ideas for my weird shaped old (loveable) home from this video. Thankyou for talking about how to showcase the unique features of a room and not cover them up to force them to be modern boxes. You are kind, funny, real and talented. What a quadrafecta! Thankyou for being vulnerable too 💜
I would looove to see an update from these people to show what changes they made! Also, when you talked about not being sure about loving a color scheme to look in your closet I was like “come on, that’s so smart”. Thank you!
I really appreciate how articulate you are and your ability to help me apply your techniques to my own space. I'm really enjoying your content and i can't believe UA-cam took so long to recommend you to me. Gold.
This really helped me! I’ve felt frozen from being able to design my rooms and I think figuring out the functionality is key!! So simple but I didn’t even think of it. Thank you so much!! I get so excited for Saturdays and new Caroline videos so please keep it up!! They bring me a lot of joy because guurrrl you so funny!
This is brilliant! Your advice is so spot on and exactly the kind of interior design content that we need to make decorating more accessible and less intimidating to everyone! ALSO, your attitude so approachable and relatable. I always feel like I just had a great coffee date with a good friend after your videos!
This is amazing. And I love that you covered actual design principles rather than just “this is how I would decorate it.” With that said, I would recommend for the next submissions (because I hope you make lots more of these videos!) to ask for a bit of info about their style preference so you are able to guide more and give examples more suited for them.
@@Caroline_Winkler agree with this suggestion! I know it'll probably take up more of your time and this is not a full design consultation so maybe you could just make a quick template of basic questions and send the same one to everyone whose videos you choose - that way you could get some addtl info without it adding up too much time/effort.
I love your advice! How you encourage people to use things they love! I studied interior design 35 years ago when we still designed using a drafting table and pencil and ink. I left the business to raise a family. I was always bothered by trends and homes that were just to look at not to live in. My philosophy is like yours, use things you love, spend a little more on a sofa and thrift tables for the room. I love a good DIY challenge. Keep up the great work you are doing!
I love this video! I didn’t even think about going to my closet and using the colors in my wardrobe to help design. My room feels very “college” & not a reflection of my style at all. Maybe it’s time I buy things with intention and not because it’s free! Haha, I forget that I can do that. This video helped me so much figure out my spaces! Once again, Caroline! You have made my day! Can’t wait to see you next time ❤️
Ah man this makes my day. I’m so glad there were some helpful tidbits in there😍 totally with you too on that transition from buying a it’s cheap / free to buying because you love it….I LOVE to score a deal, but my experience is that if I buy something ONLY for the price tag, then I can pretty guarantee I’m gonna be annoyed at it every time I see it / use it. No need to bring that energy into your home😂
This is absolute gold. I came here worn out and disillusioned from watching high end interior design gurus. You are such a breath of fresh air, I love how you took everyone's requests into consideration!
Loved this! It was very helpful hearing you think out loud about the function of a room, legginess, and picture size and placement and everything else. And at the end, your unqualified support of us living our lives and doing the best we can was very welcome. xoxo
If it were my home, I'd use that loungy area by the windows in that house, for a kind of "relax with a cup of tea" space, whether that means in the morning, halfway through a hectic day to decompress, or to watch the sun go down. I'd have a small table with a couple of comfy chairs, but also have something more cushy to sit on if the mood strikes me.
Yes, more of these. I feel like I’m pretty good at decorating, and you always come up with something I hadn’t thought of. Good job, Caroline. Good job.❤
I’ve lived in Tacoma my whole life! I’m a new fan of yours. You’re getting me interested in decorating again. Maybe. At the very least you are entertaining me. Thank you.
I love how you affirm everyone. Not only are you funny and down-to-earth, but you are feeling and caring. That’s why you are becoming so popular. Much success to you!💚
I was hoping you would do an episode about art pieces! Like how to arrange them and also how to pair them on a wall if mixing diff pieces. You mentioned art being good way to add color to your space and also making your space feel like a home and I, as of now, have not adding anything to my walls so far out of fear bc I do not know how to add things and mix them. So I’m stuck. Thanks so much
I'm binge watching you for the past 5 days! Really love how you express yourself! And finally inspired to really shift my spaces! I know it'll make a huge deal and help me evolve personally as well (I hope))). And it was super cool picking your brain, and understanding how design and organisation work (yes, I found your channel thanks to your "viral" video. And yes - knee thingy kinda makes you feel sexy and mysterious coupled with a headband)). And also your personality gives me some cool feelings and qualities, I don't know if I can explain it here. Thank you!
I’ve learned to decorate my room & organize it better based off your videos. I appreciate all your content. And you’re hilarious. I appreciate your sarcasm & witty self, lol
😂 babys love mirrors - they can’t get over themself 😂😂😂 Great design advise + great humor. Loved this episode. Makes me miss your make-overs less (if that makes sense) can’t wait for spareroom episode 2 👏👏👏
I love how kind you were at the beginning of each critique ! And very much appreciate the tips you gave: layering, looking at your closet, so many good nuggets in this video! The split screen showing *multiple* photo examples of your suggestions is incredibly helpful! You make design less intimidating and more palatable. My husband and I are looking to buy our first house soon and honestly your bedroom will be my inspo for the styling!! Maybe I'll be lucky enough to be sending you a little video soon and you'll help me in your next video!! Amazing!!!!
I’m always so inspired by your design direction! tiny caveat since this channel is monetized I’d be careful about using imagery without credits… i.e William Morris wallpaper and other reference images used throughout the vid…
When you told that subscriber that she did not have to have a coffee table, it was transformational. Hard to believe I had to learn that on UA-cam! :) Thanks to you both. The "purpose" of my LR floor is pretty much Pilates and plants. Stay well.
Even a year down the line, this is still super useful. I know the focus of the channel has shifted over your time on UA-cam, but I do think that you're a wonderfully insightful and talented interior designer. I love pretty much ANYTHING you make, but I've really been enjoying design content.
Sooooo.........here is the first episode of your new hit series.! I could watch it all day!! Only downside is, if you take off with this (and you will), I will really miss your other vlogs/videos! (in fact I''ve often thought you should be creating/writing a sitcom, who knows, maybe both design and sitcom in your future!!!!)
Hi Caroline! 18:23 you mentioned the rug relating things. I think there’s a parallel between other videos of yours where you mention using trays to hold things. Just watching this video and made that connection of “oh the rug is the tray for the furniture on the rug!”. I like your perspective on that and think it’s great advice. Hope you’re doing well. Feels like I’m writing an email to a professor rn so I’m gonna dip
I have 2 giant vertical Chinese scrolls from my parents. They are subdue, beautiful, and I love them in my living room, along with a mirror and plants. I also love Japanese touches in table clothes, curtains, and pillow shams on a neutral color sofa. Just my 2 cents 😊
Caroline, If you read comments from your older posts, I'd love to see more of these videos. You are so talented and your suggestions with explanations are top notch!
Wow first client has an actual life 🤩 I forgot what that is like being sick over the years. Love my Black Russ¡an Terrier!! Had a housefire trying to design whole space for just me... 💙
This is such an old video but as another Yoga-loving girly for room #2 - a large mirror leaning against the wall would be awesome as an alternative to a large print. Those can get SUPER pricey, but it's so nice to work on your form!
interesting, but the view of busy architecture outside the windows would repeat in the mirror, adding more un-yoga, not calming energy. Since there is no "nature" out the window, for my sanity, I would have to have to bring in more nature imagery for a the illusion of having a window view of beautiful nature, whether impressionist or photographic.
The “little vertical vignette” in second video. I would have DEF put little floating shelves. Maybe 2 or 3 in a vertical row, with just 4 to 6 books on each one. Might even use that REALLY cool bracket hack, to stack books horizontally and make them look like they’re actually floating! And you’ll be able to see the title/spine of each book. Really love love love the ‘invisible book bracket’ hack. Lol ❤️
I like you, girl! I’m 51 yrs old and live with a lot of clutter, even though I hate it. My hubs and three kids contribute to that, of course, but also to the awesome quality of my life, so we deal. Maybe one day I’ll submit a dilemma. In the meantime, I spent 3 years of my childhood in Tacoma, WA! Love the valley! Love the mountains! Something very cozy about it. Thanks for being real with us! So fun!
I just wanna say your family of origin just seems so wholesome and like you all really love each other. You should do a video on your family dynamic growing up and how your parents cultivated that (or didnt) idk i just want my kids to be relational like this when they’re adults too
I’m not sure why the UA-cam algorithm didn’t show me your videos until recently, but I’m hooked. I love your content. You’re so authentic and insightful and talented at what you do. 👏
Caroline, thanks so much . It is important that you mentioned Art and it is good to see what a huge difference it makes to a room /space . Your design ideas are so practical and realistic and encouraging for the client/person you are working with / advising . Just keep being you , it is a treat and you are brightening up the world and making it a better place to be in. Thanks !
I loved this format! It was so funny every time you would describe something I would think, Oh that's excellent! I am going to remember that way to describe it and lean into those ideas... And then you would say you didn't like how you were speaking. Lamps are room jewelry! Genius!
Very helpful. I learned so very much about interior design principles that I can apply to my house. And I love how you talk, your quips. I mentioned before (on another video) that you sound so NYC. But you are also self-deprecating and very witty/funny.
I would like more of these design dilemma videos with your design tips. eg. the tips regarding balancing. Do you ever do chalk painting furniture videos or examples of repurposing existing furniture? Thanks!
This was a very useful video. Speaking of babies and children, can you do a child friendly decor video? I imagine it would have lots of closed shelving, lot of wall mounting and minimal vases and other styling pieces on top of flat surfaces that can be pulled down and broken. I see a lot of the decor ideas and styling stuff like candle sticks, small stools, sidle tables, even coffee tables won't work in my home with a toddler who likes to flip stuff over or injure himself in creative ways.
🥳YESsss...that is what we've all been wanting for years...you can watch all the design shows you want but different (read: expert) eyes see so much more
Dear Caroline, I just wanted you to know, that I really love your videos, your interior designs and just the way you are! Especially this kind of videos are so so helpful, because I think these are typical problems a lot of people are facing when it comes to making your home feel comfortable. So thank you for that! ❤ Lots of Love from Germany Diana ✨
for tulsi in seattle ~ a GIANT MIRROR instead of art could beautifully reflect the views out the window + function as a mirror for movement (since they do yoga, or can dance etc in front of it where they want visual feedback)
This is a GREAT idea for videos--I think you'd get huge interest. And I would watch every one and take notes! first thing I'm gonna do after watching this vid is to find a chandelier for my guest bedroom. It's my favorite room in the house and the right chandelier would be-----the kiss!!

Oo congrats!!! I hope you’re settling in well! Take your time with making it your home😊
Paradoxically, its really easier to get creative when you have restrictions. 🎉 Yes!
This is brilliant! Your advice is so spot on and exactly the kind of interior design content that we need to make decorating more accessible and less intimidating to everyone! ALSO, your attitude so approachable and relatable. I always feel like I just had a great coffee date with a good friend after your videos!
ugh love to hear that it feels accessible 🧡as it should!!
For design dilemma #2 - I would add a long narrow table behind the sofa with a couple of chairs for dining!
This is amazing. And I love that you covered actual design principles rather than just “this is how I would decorate it.” With that said, I would recommend for the next submissions (because I hope you make lots more of these videos!) to ask for a bit of info about their style preference so you are able to guide more and give examples more suited for them.
love it, great idea!
And at the end, your unqualified support of us living our lives and doing the best we can was very welcome. xoxo
that dark plum in the preview of this video is the color of the year. looks sooo rich against a neutral palate
i love these kind of videos. if you ever have clients open to it i would love to see more videos of you going through the whole design process
I’m so inspired by this video creatively and I haven’t been as motivated lately thank you!!
Doh! That makes me so happy! I love inspo / motivation all the time too, sometimes you just gotta wait for it to build up❤️
OMG the LEGGINESS tip. I just looked over at my living and room and I was like THAT'S IT.
I loved this Caroline! I'm definitely gonna have to submit a room. I have the hardest time with finishing touches 😬
please do, i'd love to help if i can! form is attached in the video description!
Yes, more of these. I feel like I’m pretty good at decorating, and you always come up with something I hadn’t thought of. Good job, Caroline. Good job.❤
I love hearing your solutions! They are applicable in so many other rooms!
this is what i love to hear!
I’ve lived in Tacoma my whole life! I’m a new fan of yours. You’re getting me interested in decorating again. Maybe. At the very least you are entertaining me. Thank you.
Caroline you’re a treasure. Enjoyed this format so much.
I love how you affirm everyone. Not only are you funny and down-to-earth, but you are feeling and caring. That’s why you are becoming so popular. Much success to you!💚
love this type of video! would love to see more of these AND updates from the subscribers if they send them in! that would be pretty cool
Thank you!
I really appreciate how kind you were in these makeovers
I loved this, it really helped me to decorate my space so much. I hope you continue this, it's great
I’ve learned to decorate my room & organize it better based off your videos. I appreciate all your content. And you’re hilarious. I appreciate your sarcasm & witty self, lol
For the second girl all I want is for her to line that wall with trailing plants! It’s across from that huge window and it would look divine!
😂 babys love mirrors - they can’t get over themself 😂😂😂 Great design advise + great humor. Loved this episode. Makes me miss your make-overs less (if that makes sense) can’t wait for spareroom episode 2 👏👏👏
Girl! I love your intros lol. And the new haircut looks gorgeous. Thanks for all the awesome content : D
Thank u!!😍
I love how kind you were at the beginning of each critique !
And very much appreciate the tips you gave: layering, looking at your closet, so many good nuggets in this video! The split screen showing *multiple* photo examples of your suggestions is incredibly helpful! You make design less intimidating and more palatable.
My husband and I are looking to buy our first house soon and honestly your bedroom will be my inspo for the styling!! Maybe I'll be lucky enough to be sending you a little video soon and you'll help me in your next video!!
Amazing!!!!
ah amazing! and i hope the home hunt goes well, thats so exciting!!
I’m always so inspired by your design direction! tiny caveat since this channel is monetized I’d be careful about using imagery without credits… i.e William Morris wallpaper and other reference images used throughout the vid…
Ahh didn’t think of that, THANK YOU! Will do🙌❤️
When you told that subscriber that she did not have to have a coffee table, it was transformational.
Hahaha the lamp “from another world we don’t belong to”….Would love to see the after pics….thank you all for sharing your space😍Great commentary!!!!
I gasped out loud at the first video's banquet idea!!! LOVE!
Caroline, If you read comments from your older posts, I'd love to see more of these videos. You are so talented and your suggestions with explanations are top notch!
You are the most normal person and I so appreciate your comments. Thank you.
More vids like this pleeease 😍
Like these types of videos helping people fix their spaces.
Omg of course lighting is the jewellery of a space. This is such a cool, fun way to explain it.
Wow first client has an actual life 🤩 I forgot what that is like being sick over the years. Love my Black Russ¡an Terrier!! Had a housefire trying to design whole space for just me... 💙
BANQUETTE SEATING! Omg, this is gonna change my living room. We have a 3-pane window, and I would LOVE to have seating in a bay window
I enjoyed seeing other people’s spaces and what you can do with the space!
You should do a video on your family dynamic growing up and how your parents cultivated that (or didnt) idk i just want my kids to be relational like this when they’re adults too
Supper helpful. Free design advice, I would never pass up the opportunity.
Seeing you do this in real time was incredibly helpful and gave me loads of ideas for my space!!
Thanks !
Do more of these! It's fun to think along with you about different spaces. Very engaging
I'd love to see what the rooms look like after the owners redecorate!
You had me at “Route Mainer” ⛰ 😂
I just love the way you think and how you support individuality!
I would like more of these design dilemma videos with your design tips. eg. the tips regarding balancing. Do you ever do chalk painting furniture videos or examples of repurposing existing furniture? Thanks!
The way you hype up strangers is so cute, put a smile on my face
I am your same age but I still get “cool Auntie” vibes from you. You are so real. Give GREAT advice and I am just upset I don’t know you in real life.
Love your transparency. My oldest granddaughter was born at Madigan in late 1990’s. She called Mt Rainer Mt Reindeer.
Lots of Love from Germany
Diana ✨
for tulsi in seattle ~ a GIANT MIRROR instead of art could beautifully reflect the views out the window + function as a mirror for movement (since they do yoga, or can dance etc in front of it where they want visual feedback)
This is a GREAT idea for videos--I think you'd get huge interest. And I would watch every one and take notes! first thing I'm gonna do after watching this vid is to find a chandelier for my guest bedroom. It's my favorite room in the house and the right chandelier would be-----the kiss!!
You are incredibly good at this! I’ve watched all your videos and have loved them all, but you killed it with this one. Loved it. Do more.
ahh thanks Rachel!!
