I experienced facial fat loss 4 months after I started using the omnilux LED mask. It’s more prominent in the forehead. I commented under one of Dr. Rajani’s videos, talking about home devices induced fat loss, and many replied that they’ve been experiencing the same. Unless there’s a research study specifically looking at this side effect, we can’t deny that this could happen.
How old are you though? There have been a few times in my life since my mid twenties I lost a ton of facial fat rapidly from aging, like I had no control over it. I was a different person in half of a year since 2020 especially. I’m 30 now and I think my adult face finally settled.
Please do microcurrent devices next! I keep hearing these (Nuface/Foreo) have caused facial fat loss as well, but also older women are using it, and this fat loss or drooping could be happening naturally due to accelerated aging. I'd like to know if I should continue with my Nuface or not :/
In my opinion it is due to ageing, we tend to ignore the fact that no matter how good your routine is, you age, it's a fact of life. corellation is not causation.
What I was informed it wasn't the red led light that causes the fat loss but it was the infrared light that did which only certain masks have like the omnilux brand. Can you clarify about the "infrared" technology and fat loss
I have a whole body panel that I use almost daily for 10 mins on each side of my body. When using it for the body I use red and infrared light and I find it helps with muscle soreness. I use the red light for my face and hair. I found my hair loss has greatly reduced on the crown and new growth coming in. I also noticed the fine hairs on my face seem to have increased and I shave my face now. I have no regrets using this device
I believe the issue with all the controversy regarding fat loss really comes down to age. We start losing fat in our faces at a young age. So someone in their 30s is going to naturally lose fat in their faces, which will decrease even more in their 40s. But it's possible they may be blaming devices for for what is naturally occurring with the aging process. Because many of us in our 50s and 60s who use the devices (who had already experienced fat loss) have good results with devices, whether it's red light therapy, microcurrent or RF. There may be exceptions to this, but I'm very curious what studies would show if they split the studies up into age groups, over a year or 2 period.
Very interesting! I’ve used omnilux masks consistently for over two years, and it does make my skin healthier and thicker. I’m 59, so I’ll take whatever I can get when it comes to skin health. I would repurchase in a heartbeat. I added it to your recommended sunscreen, moisturizer, and tretanoin, which I had begun about four years ago.
I am 57 years old and as someone who had very severe acne, I have been treating scars for at least 15 years. I have done all type of fractional, non-fractional lasers, ultrasounds for skin tightening, plasma, CO2, you name it!! and I have been using Omnilux for at least 2 years. No fat loss whatsoever. My skin is almost scarless by now and I have no wrinkles as all these treatments have helped me produce more collagen than normal for my age. Red light has also helped me in treating hair loss when menopause started (along with mesotherapy). In all, it's only when I lose too much weight that I find that age shows in my face.
Acne is the sign that something you eat creates unbalance in your metabolism. Remember skin is the largest organ used for disposing of harmful food or something we are putting in our bodies.
It would make sense that there is fat loss as the red light belts (made of same frequency and led lights) help with weight loss on the stomach , there’s lots of research on it, so why wouldn’t it do the same on the face …
I'm 55 and use the Red Light Mito panel 10 mins daily. I alternate between red light and infrared red light. I love it!! Thank you Dr for this information. You're awesome! xo
I own 4 different devices Celluma, omnilux , revive light therapy and platinum led I have brown skin zero issues first got into red light IR for an injury but then used the devices on the face and neck for skin health and it has improved the skin in ways I didn’t realize I personally don’t use the eye protection as I want the treatment on the eye lids as well again no issues with my eyes I just wait till my eyes are fully closed to start a treatment session and wait till it’s fully off to open my eyes it’s definitely a remarkable treatment especially for acne sufferers I didn’t realize I had small break out or bumps until after I used one of the devices which uses both blue , red and infrared together it just creates a clarity on the skin without any irritation for pain management and recover it’s also great helps with inflammation without needing to pop pills
I have a combo red light and infrared. Naturally the infrared produces some warmth. Can the infrared cause fat loss?? Certainly don’t want that for my face
Dr Ray Thanks for this video. Can you explain if the LED red light is especially harmful to the eyes when using the mask without the eye shield? I m using Aduro Face Mask, it came with a pair of eye shields and caution about possible harms to eyes too.
Unfortunately there is (still) a great deal of confusion in the RLT community. It all started with researchers not differentiating between Power and Time and only stating total power (Joule) in their research. The issue (that anyone with basic understanding of physics should know) is that you can have high watt - low time and vice versa resulting in the same total power, but results not nedlessly the same. This becomes even more critical for RLT theraphy by lasers (LLLT) for which I have a great deal of experience with. Having said that, reading new papers especially regarding adverse IR effects - I highly suspect the potential damage comes from just that; too high radiation - whether it’s simply by function of heat or other mechanisms I dare not speculate, but it is probably not a a bad idea to have some distance to the source and use a fan to cool off exposed parts. All the best 🌸
I'd love for you to talk about how this in relation to rosacea specifically. I can go out for just a regular paced walk, SPF and hat on and sometime I come back to huge red blotches everywhere. Same can happen just by watching lying in bed and watching a show on my cell or laptop. It's so incredibly uncomfortable for one but also so stressful because you don't know if the red splotches are just temporary or if they will be permanent. Most people can flush and not worry they are gonna be left with a horrible scar but for folks with rosacea flare-ups can absolutely leave a mark.
I use RED/NIR belt on my face daily 15 mins, and after 2 months of use I noticed good improvement - less redness definitely, I even started having spicy food sometimes. I also would love to hear about RED/NIR + rosacea

10g/day of MSM got rid of my rosacea but maybe it wasn't the same kind as yours, the sun didn't affect it very much. Skin health depends a lot on gastrointestinal health, especially intestinal lining integrity. Studies back this up. Hope this can be of use to you, rosacea is crap!
There was recently a post on Reddit from a woman who claimed she'd experienced fat loss from using a microcurrent device. A couple of people chimed in and said they'd experienced the same phenomenon. I'd love to hear your opinion on this. The women described seeing this fat loss over years which made me think it was just due to aging....idk, I'd love to hear from you on this.
@au0rey I'm always very open to hearing people talk about their experience, and I wouldn't question their experience directly. But in the 1st reddit post, the lady was in her early 40s, and the change she saw happened over 3 years. Isn't that just natural ageing? The second lady was in her mid-30s, and the change she saw was over years, too. During that time, she mentioned using a radiofrequency device and experiencing stress....plus the passage of time. It would be incredible if these home devices could freeze us from the point that we start using them. But that just isn't the case. Despite using the best creams and using every device under the sun, we're going to continue to wrinkle and sag. A video from Dr Dray addressing this latest fear mongering would be a great point of reference for when these post inevitably pop up on the likes of reddit.
@Miechonlada I agree. If the changes happened over weeks, even a few months, I'd be concerned. But the two lady's that claimed they saw fat loss saw this change after years of use. One of the ladies is in her 40s. Isn't that, unfortunately, a time when we can expect to see sagging and fat loss. I think a video from Dr. Dray addressing this would be a great point of reference for anyone fearful of using a fairly innocuous device.
I used the nuface for ab four months and it made my skin less plump. I do believe it burned fat in my face. It made my cheeks worse and it made the area around my mouth have less volume. It would warm my face and at the time I didn’t realize what it was doing. I’m 32. I would really not recommend it to anyone. If you’re wanting to keep a more youthful face I would not use a micro current device. I’m now doing face yoga to correct the damage it did. I 100 percent believe they have the ability to melt fat
That’s why I haven’t gotten one. That’s my fear. My face is naturally slim already and I don’t want the little facial fat that I have ( and that I like!)..gone. 🥺
You are so knowledgeable dr dray, really appreciate your in-depth dive into all the topics you address. I have rosacea and use an led red light masks almost daily and it has really helped. Thank you. Also really appreciated the video on eyelash serums as I do use revitalise, but will maybe stop now.
I’ve been looking at a mask device too, and have been very apprehensive about ordering one, with the number of people that keep posting all over UA-cam,reddit, etc about having experienced facial fat/volume loss. I realise that the very vast majority of people using these devices are not experiencing that, but there seem to be enough people experiencing this same phenomenon that it may be a very real, albeit small risk for some - even if they are outliers. So given this, and given that the anecdotes of this fat loss (as well as the anecdotes of hyperpigmentation) seem attributable to the near-infrared aspect of these red light devices (and with most of the masks emitting both red and NIR light from the same led bulbs by default), wouldn’t it be more prudent for me to look at a mask where you can select to have red-only light, without the NIR at the same time? (Such as the Aduro mask). Appreciate any feedback on this point. And if anyone has any suggestions of other red-only masks, or masks where you can separate red from NIR, that would be great to hear too!
Thank you for this video! I have tried an at-home red light therapy mask four times. After each use, I experience pain like a very deep sunburn in the skin on one side of my forehead lasting several days. There was no visible change to the skin. The recommended treatment from the manufacturer (Cleopatra) was for 15 minutes and I used it for only five minutes, with 4 days between uses. Have you ever heard of this? There is a clear correlation, but I’m not sure what to attribute it to.
I have a Joovv panel and I love it. It’s definitely made a huge difference in my overall skin quality. I also believe it helps with my minor aches and pains. I always really enjoy your knowledge, thanks for sharing.
Hi, I do not really understand why some led masks state that they have led lights and others state that they have infrared + LED lights. What’s the difference? Please help

As many people as many opinions right. I can say from my own experience that this type of aging (volume loss, sagginess, hollowness) can happen quite rapidly. We all have different background and genetically better or worse skin, environment we live in, what we put in our bodies but most of all- stress and life experiences. Fmy example- always healthy, radiant skin no problems, skinny face though and after my first pregnancy 1 year post partum including an extreme year of life related stresses. I paid attention to my face at only 31 and I became hollow! My under eye was so sunken I didn't know who it was just by looking at my eye area. Then another pregnancy at 33, 1 year post partum with again more life stress plus serious pregnancy and premature newborn health issues. After my 34th birthday my whole face became so skinny and the tightness was visibly gone. Especially around the sides of my lips and my jaw. And I haven't used any of the devices at all. The world has gone crazy and women in mid 30s go for mini or midi face-lift. But it doesn't come from nothing because after 30 is when we already start losing elasticity, tightness, everything changes. There are so many mini changes happening in our bodies pretty much daily, if we pay attention to ourselves we notice them as previously with less awareness of it and less fixation on beauty and youth, it wouldn't have even been an issue or anything to waste time thinking about. So yes you can be 30 and already start losing face shape and fat deposits. You can be 32, 35 and notice major difference. It doesn't need to be over 40 and a slow process that happens in some step by step way. It can be sudden, unexpected, all at once kind of thing. And you know it doesn't matter. There's so many things that can be done but also nothing needs to be done to enjoy the fact that we are still around on this planet.
I think it's a bit of Column A and Column B. I have no doubt that some people are just unaware of the changes in their faces as they get older. However, the field of dermatology is quite a young one, and there are still things that baffle the majority of doctors. For example: retinol. It works really well for some, and has disastrous effects for others. I wouldn't be so quick to deny everything the average person has to say, even if medical science has yet to confirm it.
In your research, did you happen to find any information on the bulb life of these masks and devices. I have heard the strength of the individual bulbs diminishes over time but it has been impossible to find out more about. I have asked a few of the influencers who are promoting and comparing these red light devices but none have answered my question. Thank you!
@@GhostSal I have the same question. and did so many research and asking question from Omnilux and LYMA and Currentbody. They did not give proper answer. I could not find anybody with Melasma who used the device and wrote a real honest review about this. I found it very frustrating. If you find any answer please write here thank you
I used lightstim brand handheld red light device and since it’s handheld you must move it around to treat areas. In doing so, the device gets somewhat warm - not burning, but warm enough to cause dark spots!! I returned it. Sticking with tretinoin and basic skincare and of course sunscreen!!
I also use a handheld LightStim at home and I think the warmth it radiates may be from the infrared light rather than the red LEDs. LightStim for wrinkles incorporates both red light and infrared.
Red light therapy is being promoted as a treatment for some common skin conditions. It’s still an emerging therapy but holds a lot of promise. If you’re interested in RLT treatment, it’s best to first discuss this with your healthcare provider or dermatologist. Your skin professional will examine your skin first and then confirm a diagnosis. Then, you’ll work together to discuss treatment options that'll achieve your desired result. Options may or may not include red light therapy. Never hesitate to ask your healthcare provider about treatment options - including if you have an interest in a particular therapy, if it’s appropriate to use for your skin condition and if it’s safe and effective. One more question Doctor Andrea can Red Light therapy help with the scald's injuries and more specifically the redness that is left behind just curious?
I noticed that the spectrum of red light for these at home beauty devices can fall in the same range as the spectrum for the at home red LED devices for growing marijuana. So I purchased one of those because it was about $15 and I am soon going to give that a try 🍀
Yes, that's true, but PLEASE check the wavelengths your device is emmiting! The ones you want (which turned out to be beneficial) are 630, 660, 810, and 850nm (red + near IR) AVOID using the device if you have wavelengths around 400nm because that is ultraviolet light that will cause premature aging and damage to your DNA! (those wavelengths are necessary for plants to grow stronger, but are quite harmful to our skin) I'm also making my own fixture (it's MUCH cheaper and will have a lot more power than the domestic ones), but I'm being very careful and cautious with the LED and power selection, because I don't want to make any mistake that I may regret in the future. JUST BE CAREFUL, OK? This is not a joke, we are dealing with our own health by doing this!! More power does not mean "better"... There is a therapeutic dose with these treatments. If you go below that dosage, you may not have any improvement. And if you go over that dose (by overdose), you will have unwanted effects or even damage!!
@@sebasalek1 Yes, mine is 660. I did a lot of research to avoid exactly what you're speaking about. It took a lot of time but it was worth it. I also purchased the special eye shields that they use for tanning beds to block any of the red light getting into my eyes. The research that I looked through advised about 10 minutes twice a day exposure. 🍀

Hi Dr. Dray, I am wondering if you have shared your opinion on Nira Laser treatment? Also, what do you think about using Nira Laser along with other beauty devices (e.g. LED lights and other microcurrent devices)? Much appreciated.
Yes, the redness, bumps, 'spots' and inflammation all disappeared. It was REALLY bad for years. Now there's no sign of it, just normal smooth skin except on my nose sometimes, that still flares up a little. When it does I take a few grams extra. It really seems related to bad digestion for me. After researching I've concluded it was due to compression of the vagus nerve which interfered with stomach acid and pancreatic enzyme production so I couldn't break down proteins especially, which then entered the blood causing inflammation. I've worked on alignment of my jaw and neck for the last year to alleviate this and gastric reflux has basically stopped. All due to extraction retraction braces. Sorry probably TMI!
Red light makes me look like I have rosatia. Or i have it, but only red and bumps after i use it. 10 min 3 times a week. Didn't experience redness until i used that device. Bumps only last a couple of days' redness continues.
Am I missing a very obvious point ? If there were proven fat loss effects from these devices wouldn’t the makers be ecstatic about it and promoting them as such ? I’d be so happy if fat loss could be achieved in an at home easy to use device.
That has NIR, which might cause skin aging. Visible red light is what's good for skin. NIR may not be all bad for looks, but I'd use with caution. Plus, that mask doesn't treat the neck. You might want to get a mask that treats neck and stays within visible light spectrum to be on the safe side
This is a very fascinating and useful video. I recently purchased 2 red light therapy devices that both also offer near infrared light therapy. One is a large panel and the other is smaller much like a pocket sized flashlight. I use them for both skin care and to relieve pain in joints/muscles. Good to know more details about how they work. Thank you! 👍😊

She already did a video on micro current or radio frequency devices.
What brand of the panel did you get?
I noticed the same thing with facial hair growth! 🥸
Does red light have any effects on hair?
@@chaseypoo17 I have a MitoPro 1500. I have had it since October 2022
@@maybeitstime0602 I would notice before I got the panel that there was a lot of hair in the sink when I was styling it. Now there is not.
I added it to your recommended sunscreen, moisturizer, and tretanoin, which I had begun about four years ago.
do you see results on your face and neck? Does it really work
Omnilux mask? Is that red light LED mask? Can you use it in combination with Tretinoin? 🤔
Yes!!! Agree!! I’m same age
How did u use the red light for your hair? Thank you. Was it a device?
Acne is the sign that something you eat creates unbalance in your metabolism. Remember skin is the largest organ used for disposing of harmful food or something we are putting in our bodies.
You really managed to get rid of all of your scars? That's amazing. What helped the most?
@@coriolisky Potenza and microneedling with exosome have done the trick BUT it is a combination of all the lasers after 10 years.

Does NIRA wreck the fat below your eyes?
It would make sense that there is fat loss as the red light belts (made of same frequency and led lights) help with weight loss on the stomach , there’s lots of research on it, so why wouldn’t it do the same on the face …
Exactly my thought!!!!
I am prone to some melasma around my lower face. Should I avoid red light masks?
I'm 55 and use the Red Light Mito panel 10 mins daily. I alternate between red light and infrared red light. I love it!! Thank you Dr for this information. You're awesome! xo

Dangerous high emf causing retina flashing commonly seen with radiation exposure
I would LOVE to know what you think of the Nira laser!

Thanks for this video. Can you explain if the LED red light is especially harmful to the eyes when using the mask without the eye shield? I m using Aduro Face Mask, it came with a pair of eye shields and caution about possible harms to eyes too.

Happy Tuesday! I use Red Light Therapy but I have to step it up because I don't do it enough at all!
Yeah, they can be a time commitment
Ok, RLT does not include heat, right? It is completely different from IR.
High emf levels, off the charts bad. Retinal flashing common in radiation exposure. F d an approved lol. We are the test dummies

Anecdotal, but I've been using one for a while and my face doesn't seem to have lost any fat-and I'm middle-aged so I'd be at risk!
I am curious as to how old that woman and the rest are.
I have a collagen vascular disorder. Most collagen building and/or remodeling products/treatments make my skin look worse. Would love a video on this!
I'd like to know more about that too as I have Sjogrens Syndrome and Lupus which, I believe, reduces collagen production
Scleroderma?
That’s why I haven’t gotten one. That’s my fear. My face is naturally slim already and I don’t want the little facial fat that I have ( and that I like!)..gone. 🥺

Can you address the science behind how infrared light affects/doesn't affect the fat?

Happy Tuesday, Dr. Dray ❤. Last day of Feb 🥺
Morning!
Great information. I use my red light mask and I have noticed a difference
How is the dosage not as high? What are we measuring
Thank you!

I've never used one of these devices but I appreciate the interesting information. Happy Tuesday, Dr Dray! I hope you have a peaceful evening. 💜
I used lightstim brand handheld red light device and since it’s handheld you must move it around to treat areas. In doing so, the device gets somewhat warm - not burning, but warm enough to cause dark spots!! I returned it. Sticking with tretinoin and basic skincare and of course sunscreen!!
Dr. Dray, my at-home red light device (LightStim wand) sometimes feels very warm/hot... does this count as applying heat?
Same question about another wand device!
I use this too! Wondering the same thing 🤔
I also use a handheld LightStim at home and I think the warmth it radiates may be from the infrared light rather than the red LEDs. LightStim for wrinkles incorporates both red light and infrared.
Happy Tuesday Dr Dray...see you tomorrow x💙🤩
You too!
YES! It caused me HOLLOW under my lower eyelids despite of the fact that I always used goggle.
It is theoretically possible that it might have some benefits for healing after a scald injury

The ones you want (which turned out to be beneficial) are 630, 660, 810, and 850nm (red + near IR)
AVOID using the device if you have wavelengths around 400nm because that is ultraviolet light that will cause premature aging and damage to your DNA! (those wavelengths are necessary for plants to grow stronger, but are quite harmful to our skin)
I'm also making my own fixture (it's MUCH cheaper and will have a lot more power than the domestic ones), but I'm being very careful and cautious with the LED and power selection, because I don't want to make any mistake that I may regret in the future.
I appreciate this video so much! Thank you
Red light makes me look like I have rosatia. Or i have it, but only red and bumps after i use it. 10 min 3 times a week. Didn't experience redness until i used that device. Bumps only last a couple of days' redness continues.

That has NIR, which might cause skin aging. Visible red light is what's good for skin. NIR may not be all bad for looks, but I'd use with caution. Plus, that mask doesn't treat the neck. You might want to get a mask that treats neck and stays within visible light spectrum to be on the safe side
