  • In this video I will upgrade my eBay intercooler to a VRSF 5" Intercooler on my 2008 BMW E90 335i with the N54 engine.
I talk about the advantages of the upgrade intercooler and show you what is involved with regards to the installation.
A number of people have asked me over the years if the eBay intercooler I installed is still worth purchasing and if I would do so again. I address that in this video.
If you you would like to purchase this intercooler upgrade for your car you can do so here (affiliate):

    Thanks for watching :)

Totally agree. Installing a big intercooler on my N54 was THE best mod, period. No more heat soak, no more limp mode, consistent power. No downside what-so-ever. I went with the VRSF 7" version, which did require a fair amount of trimming inside the bumper (my car was M-Sport, so YMMV). But it wasn't difficult - did not have to remove the bumper - and the trimming was totally invisible from outside the car.
I also installed M3 front lower links and thrust arms. With the adaptive steering, steering response was epic!

@@guccimargiel4127 Removed the undertray and the original intercooler and then there's enough space to work from below. Had the front end up on jack stands. Took my brother and I about an hour - test fitting then trimming - before the larger intercooler fit nicely. I'm not sure about the standard front bumper cover, but the M-Sport front bumper has an insert behind the air opening, and that is the piece that gets trimmed, not the actual bumper cover itself.

I did the m3 control on my 328 as well with the tie rods. Crazy difference in steering and like you said cornering is completely different. I recommend this upgrade to anyone looking to swap. FCP sells the m3 arms for cheaper than the OE replacements.

Mine is kind of acting up and I dont want to bring it to the dealer as they are pretty expensive. My Comfort Access doesnt work and neither do functions like comfort opening windows / roof. I looked at Carly and those features are all coded appropriate. Strange thing is that when I put the physical key (thas hidden in the keyfob) and turn it longer, windows and roof open. Any clue what could be the fault here? My error codes dont tell me much either: 00A6CF, 00A103, A10A, 2F4A

I have a VSRF as well (except I bought the 7.5 race version because, well, who knows). Yes, I have to cut a bunch of plastics, but if I MUST remove materials, I'd rather it was mild plastic like this stuff. The 7.5 is a tank, and it's very heavy. What is your opinion on intercooler connections.... silicone tube vs oem style? Do you think silicone connections have any benefit over oem click type connections...
Im planning on upgrading my intercooler on z4 35i... and i kind of cant decide on vrsf vs csf 5.5inch intercooler... csf is good and said to be the best n54 intercooler right now.... but it has oem style connections... car is otherwise stock but i am getting an aluminum chargepipe to go with the intercooler and downpipes aswell to run stage 2+ map. Maybe i will do inlets further down the line... but im not planning on going crazy with the power. Simple FBO stuff.

My kit came with some rubber grommets, did yours? It also seemed like the bolts were to skinny for the holes on the intercooler and i thought the grommets were there to be used as a washer in between the screw and the intercooler but they were way to thick and wouldnt allow the screw all the way through.
