If I was a dev who worked on Oblivion, this would be the kind of praise I was looking for. They didn't just make the world lived in, but gave you so much freedom you can live in it too. A game so loved, you find reasons to play it.
I was certainly surprised when I first played Oblivion and bought the manor and spent the first night only to be woken up by ghosts. But 5,000 Septims is a steal, and the effort to lift the curse is more than worth it for one of the nicest houses in the vanilla game.
Oh nice I suggested this quest, definitely was an interesting quest of the game. Another house quest I can mention is more of a short one, in skingrad you can buy a manor for 25,000 septims. In the bedroom of the manor through some slightly annoying jumping you can find a hidden scroll on top of the stair loft that leads to a treasure in the manor. It gives some gems and a unique ring for completing it but would be a very small video so might not the best to cover. Rosethorn Hall is the most expensive house in Oblivion but it always was my favorite one to go back to often

I had forgotten that Velwyn Benirus is the only NPC in Oblivion who actually looks like a normal human being. Also, this is my favorite quest in the base game and my favorite player home in the whole series.
When I first played Oblivion, I only started exploring the Anvil region after playing quite some time. I was already set up in Arborwatch in Chorrol. If I hadn't been, I would probably made Anvil my main base. Beautiful building style and love the quest. However, nowadays I usually use the castle from 'the fighters stronghold'
Kinda sad and funny that Lord Benirus spent all his life trying to become a Lich then was stopped and laid dormant / immobile for decades .... and once he FINALLY fools an adventurer and achieves his goal, the very same adventurer bonks the ever(un)living crap out of him.
I like to believe that they had big roleplay ideas for Oblivion. i.e being able to fail quest and have different outcomes to the world but was either to ambitious or figure people would be upset if they could.

On one play through Velwyn just disappeared. You could see his shadow walking up to the door and then away again. I had to load a previous save and do another quest of which I was on when I saved it.
What 17:29 I have never seen a Female Guard? In the Imperial City. Almost all cities besides a few have Women as guards usually connected to quests. I think she is the only one which makes no sense. She must have been either apart of a cut quest or apart of a diverse set of guards that they didn't have time for and just left her in. I guess Oblivion still has new things to learn. The Roleplay here makes this really feel like the Daggerfall-esque Elder Scrolls game they kinda wanted it to be, before it went nuclear and took the series out of niche status. Anvil always kinda creeped me out especially after this quest. Even the "renovated" manor is still chilling. Just sitting on this hillside, dim flickering lights with paranormal entities crawling and hiding around every window... Anyone who moved in there for their playthrough is a psycho.
Just couldn't pass up a house like this for 5,000 gold. Haunting aside, it's a nice affordable upgrade from the Imperial City Docks house, if you didn't have the renown or gold for one of the other ones.
anvil house really is so uncomfortable and the layout is shit, i dont wanna have to go through nearly every room in the house zig zagging around to get up to the level up thing i mean bed LOL that and not any quickly acessable chests or things of that sort that are satisfying to put loot in and its so dark

This quest was one of my first experiences with "Why I never want a follower/ally in Oblivion". As when the Velwyn Benaris came to help me and all the very jerky "lunging strikes" that the AI likes to do resulted in him tanking for the enemy ghosts. ... and then calling the guards because I hit him. After he jumped in the way of a swing already in progress. ... it's one of my persistent, and perhaps silly, ticks about Oblivion. I never want to engage in combat anywhere near an allied NPC because of how common that is. And yet Oblivion throws a LOT of allied NPCs into fights with you. From every time a Mythic Dawn Agent jumps you in a city and a guard gets involved, to things like closing a few Oblivion Gates with allies (Kvatch, Chorrol, Cheydinhal, the big gate for the sigil piece in the main quest, etc), to quests like this where you have to escort an NPC through a few fights. Nice that Skyrim improved the AI, a little. They don't tend to lunge towards the enemy and intercept strikes made for the enemy in melee as much. But then also backslid in that the AI for Allied NPCs in Skyrim seem to have this idea of "My buddy is using ranged attacks... I better stand directly between the enemy they're targeting and them!" to make sitting back with a Bow/Spell more likely to friendly fire. And frustrating to see you try to get around them only for your NPC Ally to move again to make sure they're blocking line of fire.
Not gonna pretend that I don't notice you putting more effort into the narrative for this video.
