Love the video, man. It’s calming and inspiring. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I thought jbp’s are not cold hardy……. meaning that they should be protected from frost etc….. I have several black pines (started from seed) and live in Tacoma, WA. They are now 2yr olds and I have been putting em in cold storage (my garage) when it gets below like 30ish degrees. Obviously u know what ur doing…….. am I just being over protective? Are jbp’s tougher then I think? I would for sure appreciate any and all info/advice. I got into bonsai only 2 or 3 yrs ago. I mostly have Japanese maples, a couple trident maples, and then my 13 2yr old jbps. I also have a few azaleas. The pines and maples are my babies and I’m always on da look out for good info that will help me help them. Again, love da vid, bro, take care and happy holidays! BONSAI!!

Hey! I grew up in Tacoma! So I've had my JBP's for 6 years now and have always kept them outside year around. Even during snowy days, including the snowpocalypse that happened a couple years ago lol. Only thing I've done recently was put them on the ground to keep them out of the cold winds. Other than that, they seem to wake up very strongly in the spring time. I would maybe add that I do fetilize during the fall time to prep them for the winter. Good luck with you trees!

Dan, sounds like you have a fantastic collection! You are easily in zone 7, and you have the warm winds blowing in from the Puget Sound. Your JBPs will love you more if you let them play outside all winter. Especially is they are a couple years old with established roots. Your bigger concern is overwatering with the rain, but good draining soil mitigates that danger.

Do you just leave them out doors in winter under the snow at - 7-8 Celcius below zero?

It doesn't get that cold here. Our winters barely go below 25f or -4c. Even when it's snows, it might be around low 30's F or high 20's F. Anything above 25f I still keep the trees outside
