Thank you very much for watching! I have year 2 of this same tree on my channel as well!! I also made 1 video with both years if someone is looking for a longer video!
This is an excellent video for many reasons. The first being that it is the clearest information on JBP I have ever come across. I learnt more from this one video alone than I did from the reams of confusing text I've read elsewhere. I now feel confident in growing the two JBP I own. The other reason I love this video is simply because it is a pleasure to watch. It was beautifully shot, and you visually captured perfectly all the methods people need to see as well as signalling with scenes the change of seasons. Nice work!
WOW! Much love and appreciate the very kind words! Keep an eye out because I've been recording an update video of this tree this whole season! Should be out around November!
Thank you watching an I appreciate the feedback! Please let me know if you have any questions. I plan on making a Q&A video from any questions I get in the comments.
@@PNWBonsai I do have a question: I have multiple black pines that are new to me this year (just getting started), my buds aren't nearly big enough now for selection and thinning. Maybe the plants are too young? I'm going to remove unneeded branches, wire, and wait to repot next spring. Should I leave the buds until spring/summer? They're only 1/2" buds in clusters of 3-5. Oh, I'm in the PNW (LFP). Thanks!
@@fredberg1821 a picture would be most helpful! If you can, could you email a couple to me? I'll take a look and add my thoughts in my Q&A video. Bonsaipnw@gmail.com
This was a great vid, with all the necessary information set out nicely, and one of the best on pines I've seen. Thanks for sharing! Get a subscribe from me for sure.
Hi i normally cut the needles very short where the brown skin attach to the bark the small part will fall alone within few days .. but this way avoid to tear away the underlying gem of the soft bari
Beautifully taken. Video is appealing and nicely taken, and not just sharing information like other videos. Also, well documented on the dates and the actual events in different seasons. Can you also share what was the fertilizer NPK you used for the shown tree during Spring and fall fertilization?
Thank you for the video, where in the world are you located? Also when creating your video could you pause the scroll of your text notes so they can be read, great video
I am also in the PNW. Washington to be exact. I need help identifying a pine tree. The needles seem to droop down in a weeping fashion from the branches. I know enough to know that I cannot find a single bonsai video demonstrating this particular tree. I'm attempting cuttings from this tree. Next spring, I'll be attempting to air layer because I doubt I can get the cutting to root. Any reply will be appreciated.
Hello! I would need a photo for reference but I can say a weeping pine sounds very unique. I don't have much experience air layering conifers but I wish you luck!
@@PNWBonsai yeah seems to grow that way. I can tag you when I upload a video. I'm new to bonsai and when I looked into it again, I realized I could find free bonsai around me here instead of Texas, where I used to live. A great Scot and Douglas forest can be collected right off the edges of the streets in my neighborhood.
Hi. Thanks for the great video. If you decade the tree for 1 year, would it produce candles the second year or you need to do it only for one year twice?
Thank you for following the trees progression! I bought this tree in 2016 from a local bonsai store here. The tree was some what healthy when I bought it. Some yellowing of needles, but watching the tree carefully and watering carefully helped. Once the tree recovered is when I started applying fertilizer. Tree became very healthy and was ready to start developing.
Thank you very much for this very interesting video! I would like to ask you a question....can chemical fertilizer be used on black pines or is better organic fertilizer? 🙏🙏👍👍👏👏
It depends on what you call organic, and chemical, I suppose all industrial feeds are chemical, but some organic can be harmful, I personally prefer just seaweed, or tomato feed, but sparingly, and I’ve grown bonsai for 40 years….never add leaf mould to a pine, either black, white, or Scott’s pine when re potting…
Hello. do you cut off all the candles at once? or do you cut off the strong candles first and then the weak ones? or do you cut first on the lower branches, then on the upper ones?
Hello! Big, small I cut them all! Any candle that needs to be cut, I cut all at once. Only candles I don't touch are the ones I want grow either in the branches or to thicken a branch.
You cut branches too short on the trunk u need to leave a 2 inch stump that will dry in time , is useful to anchor wire if needed to make jin and to avoid sap leakkng and deat or wood rottening Moreover u cut too much green and the plant might have a shock on the roots level Learn how to make binsai before teaching !

Where I am located, I cut the buds in June and by November the 2nd flush will be mature. That all happens within the same year
What type of fertilizer do you use? Beautiful video btw! And great choice of ambience.
