Kensington Philadelphia Drug & Crime Problems
Violent crime and drug abuse in Philadelphia as a whole is a major problem. The city’s violent crime rate is higher than the national average and other similarly sized metropolitan areas.1 Also alarming is Philadelphia’s drug overdose rate. The number of drug overdose deaths in the city increased by 50% from 2013 to 2015, with more than twice as many deaths from drug overdoses as deaths from homicides in 2015.2 A big part of Philadelphia’s problems stem from the crime rate and drug abuse in Kensington.
Because of the high number of drugs in Kensington, the neighborhood has a drug crime rate of 3.57, the third-highest rate by neighborhood in Philadelphia.3 Like a lot of the country, a big part of this issue is a result of the opioid epidemic. Opioid abuse has skyrocketed over the last two decades in the United States and Philadelphia is no exception. Along with having a high rate of drug overdose deaths, 80% percent of Philadelphia’s overdose deaths involved opioids2 and Kensington is a big contributor to this number. This Philly neighborhood is purportedly the largest open-air narcotics market for heroin on the East Coast with many neighboring residents flocking to the area for heroin and other opioids.4 With such a high number of drugs in Kensington, many state and local officials have zoned in on this area to try and tackle Philadelphia’s problem.

Do you think they should legalize it so drug dealers are no longer in the equation? Legalizing it with pharm. grade heroin will maybe not remove the stigma of using it, but it will remove the dealers, won't it? If drug addicts are determined to use this risky mixture of fentanyl and unknown poisons, they are going to eventually die from it.

Watched many of these videos. The lady on your thumbnail and 4:10 in the pink. Was she a former gym instructor? These people appear fit, slender and in good health minus the drug and alcohol addiction. Looks like money is spent on drugs, walking/tweaking outdoors thus low body fat. Many of the women look fit/, toned and some are attractive from a distance.
If not in this environment and drug condition I would mistakenly think these are fit people as some are on slender side. Whereas middle America is fat and obese. Thanks for posting these videos

I once had a neighbor who was an addict. I asked her if the drugs made her not want to eat, she told me that if she had the choice to buy her dope or buy food, she would buy dope. I used to fix her some food and she got ahold of some fentanyl laced dope in Camden and died. She was young, early 40s maybe. Lost everything, including her life. so sad.

Don’t mistake someone’s body cannibalizing itself to survive as fit and trim. They’re skin and bones. Addicts don’t eat, unless it’s free. Every dime goes to drugs. Fat addicts are rare, fat Americans are not. So I can see how thin people seems out of place in a US city.

Drugs are everywhere and as soon as people realize that all junkies don't look like these "down & outers" on Kensington St and growing.
