That is a very true statement. I've told that to numerous operators when they are sitting in a climate controlled cab with ROPS/FOPS, GPS/satellite guidance and an all hydraulic machine and 6 way blade. Used to be, blade would go up or down, machine forward and back (each track individually controlled for turning). Lots of work got done, and many of the operators survived.
Oh, my, God. I need to go to Alberta!! Maybe I can tell my wife there's a knitting museum we need to see and then act surprised to find out it's a bunch of cool machines. Think she'll go for it?
I can’t imagine trying to run that cable dozer all day long, and you know them boys put in some long days! My hats off to the old boys who wrestled those iron giants 👍
I've got to admit I've not laughed this hard in ages, but one other thing I have to admit is that's three people I never thought I'd see together in an old piece of iron, Rich, Chase and Peggin Leggin, best video yet. 🇬🇧
Rich seeing just how reckless peg is is absolutely hilarious.. lol he couldn’t understand the level of send that would take place if he was left unsupervised 😂😂
Love that story about the polar bear! I built an ice fishing house in my garage once that I couldn’t get out the door! 🤣🤣 had to remove some trim and stuff and drag it out laying on its chassis to finally get it out. These things happen! 👍
There are all kinds of stories where someone built a boat in their garage or basement over a period of years in their spare time only to find out that they can't get it out once they retire and have time to enjoy it. It's either a huge running joke with legs or a not uncommon thing.
I owned a house that had the basement wall all patched up in it . I asked the old fellow next door about it , he told me the previous owner had built a small plane in the basement . Thats how they got it out.
Love all this old heavy equipment that old timers pioneered many years ago what a treasure to behold. It would be a riot operating that old dozer. I lived in Alberta for five years back 79 to 84 miss that province bigtime. What I miss the most is the mountains. I use to work with horses back then for a couple summers and that's what I miss the most about Alberta.

Deboss Garage, Peg and a bunch of awesome old iron that runs. It does not get any better than that. Hopefully they have a show like in Pennsylvania to get people to help fund their idea and save more equipment. Thanks for the videos, Rich.

I really got a kick out of the old iron video. I learned on my Great Grandmother’s ranch how to operate equipment when I was about 7. Admittedly I was not very good at it but it was after much practice something that I was fairly good at. The learning is much easier when the instructor is good at communicating and not yelling. Just saying. My next dozer I found myself on was a TD25. Holy cow what a difference! I was then about 21 and thought I knew everything. Alta while I was very proficient with the monstrous dozer. It had so much slop in the hydraulic lift system that you had to plan ahead what the blade needed to do because of the lag. The bushings were so loose that input had to come about 10 - 15 seconds before the blade would move. Try pushing a smooth on something like that! I built many miles of roads on that old beast. My next dozer was a brand spanking TD 8E. Such a wonder of speed and efficiency. I absolutely loved operating that one. I put 3600 hours on it and bought a new one and did the another 3600 hours. They were ready for overhaul when I got rid of them. After that I had many D4’s, D6’s, D8’s, and a D9. I finally grew up and got into the helicopter pilot business. I still to this day love running bull dozers and I am in my 70’s.
There’s just something to heavy machinery that’s my parents age or older that gets me going. Something about the built to last instead of planned obsolescence that puts a huge smile on my face.

I have a 1964 d68u similar to that dozer, was my grand fathers, made logging roads it whole life, still works to this day. I actually have to start it the same way because the pony motor doesn't work. Before we used to use 2 pickup trucks chained in series, open the de-compression lever, third gear, forward, main clutch disengaged. start towing the tractor once moving pull in the main clutch slowly, once engine is rotating id reach forward and smack the de-compression lever. Then you gotta release the main clutch before you run into the back of one of the pickups lol. but remembering to chain up the blade so it wont fall is important lol. Now i push it with my backhoe and basically do the same thing. i plan on building a conversion for the pony motor to replace it with a modern small gas engine. I joke with people that you basically do a dance in the seat with all the levers and pedals just to cut in a relatively straight line.
