    The latch on the door is designed for safety purposes. It avoids easy access from predators or accidental release. Nice review 👍🏼

    We have this coop and i think it’s one of the best prefab coops you can buy. We put hardware cloth all around. Added a omlet auto door. 2 perches inside the run and a shelf over the nesting boxes. Note…get it as level as you can. If your not level the install of the roof is challenging. We live on a Mountain….flat land comes at a premium here. Nice vid. 🙏

    I have the same coop and also did a review. The coop has done well after 2 years. I think it was a great idea that I sealed and painted the exterior of the coop. So far, no issues.

    I enjoyed the video and liked the fact that you set the table up, so we can see how long the run is. They give dimensions, but it’s easier to visualize with the table. Our coop just came in and we will pick it up from tractor supply later today. I liked reading all the comments, so thank you to everyone who responded. I picked up paint and caulk, cuz that was a recommendation from a review on the TS website. I forgot to get some peel and stick tiles to cover the floor. Our chicks are two weeks old, so we have a little bit of time. We have 10 chicks, so we will definitely have to enlarge the run area.🐥

      So glad you got something out of it. I have 6 4-5 week old chicks and 1 8 week old. I believe I am going to be ordering Premier 1 poultry fencing to extend my run.

    We have had this coop for a year now. It is solid. The assembly directions were not easy to follow but doable. The latches are ridiculous but effective. We laid a 4’x6’ outdoor rug inside the coop to protect the floor under the pine shavings we use for bedding. It is working well and it makes it easier to clean and it’s safe for the chickens. We attached 1/2inch hardware cloth around the perimeter of the run. It is working well also. We put a board measured to fit over the nesting boxes. They can stand on this and look out the window. It keeps the nests cleaner and more private. We also added an automatic chicken door.

    This is probably the best coop/run that TS sells. I've had chickens for 4 years and I can see that you will have to make some minor improvements on this one. I would add 1/2" wire mesh to the bottom half all the way around, I would put an apron using the same 1/2" mesh around the entire run, I would attach a nice wooden perch inside the run. In the future, I would add to that run and triple the size, and just put mesh on the top for aerial predator protection, finally I would put up 6 ft chain link fencing around the entire area with netting on top so the girls can safely get out of the coop and run and have play time. We invested in a much larger coop and over the last 4 years we have made all these same changes to ours and we've never had a predator problem, even though we have predators come in our yard everyday. Our girls never have spats because there is so much space for them. Have fun with your babies and please upload more videos once they come outside.

    • @Shauna_BeeGee
      @Shauna_BeeGee  2 роки тому +2

      Thank you....actually, I have already put 1/4" mesh all the way around the whole thing with the apron. I have also added a chicken swing and a couple of other things that they can roost on. I have a chain link dog kennel that I am going to add to for more ru. SpCe and I have corrugated metal roofing g to go over that. Lastly, I am considering getting some Premier One fencing to add a huge run space and either only using it while I am out there or putting an aviary net over it.
      Thank you so much for your suggestions. I will continue to upload videos as I update and expand. My girls are 4 weeks old....so I still have a couple of weeks to work on things.

    I built a self over nesting boxes because the roosts go over them and they poop all over it. I cut 2x2 and put them across the run. I cut picket fencing boards to connect to the roosts to make a walk around the run!

    I want to thank you for the video, and your viewers for their helpful comments. It was so hard to tell from the website, and my local stores did not have any samples. Now that it has beef several months, are you still happy with it. This looks good for my needs, with slight modifications.

    • @Shauna_BeeGee
      @Shauna_BeeGee  Рік тому +1

      I am still happy with it almost a year later. A couple of things I have done is 1. Closed in the run with tarps and installed roosts in there. It drastically I creased the number of chickens I can house. 2. I put an automatic door on it. Those big doors get caught by the wind pretty easily and are diffuse to keep open. I'm in Texas so the wind can be awful. 3. I installed 9" desk fans in the ceiling of each section to keep the air flowing in the summer.
      With all.of that being said. The last I checked, these were no longer available. So you may find a used one....but not sure that you will find a new one.

    • @Shauna_BeeGee

      We did have trouble with the self tapping screws....but not getting them started. The directions for the shoulder support (for the roof panels) and how it was attached to the frame were not clear. So we attached that support on the outside of the frame. This caused the screws to be positioned so that they bottomed out on the frame.

    • @TheLionKing-1970
      @TheLionKing-1970 2 роки тому

      @@Shauna_BeeGee the roof support had pre drilled holes but the frame did not. The small self tapping screws would have been better if they were like the larger ones that had a hex nut head so you could drive them in or have pre drilled holes in the frame already done.

    • @Shauna_BeeGee
      @Shauna_BeeGee  2 роки тому

      There is a small chicken door on the opposite wall from the vent. I have recently incorporated the entirety of the structure as the coop and leave the small chicken door open at night but locking the whole coop up tight. This way not only is there additional ventilation, but also gives them more room to move around before we get out there in the morning.
      Additionally, the structure is not airtight at all. Lots of spaces for air to circulate. I'm in Texas, so believe me when I say I keep a watch on the Temps and the area my chickens are in.

    • @Cobrafanatik22

      There is a ridge vent and the sides of the roof is vented under the roofing material as it doesn't sit flat and seal.

    • @cmwHisArtist

      We have one with six in it and looks ok as long as they are good friends. A lot of hawks and coyotes around here so we’re not going to free range unless I’m out there babysitting the whole time. Our one rooster Enoch is automatically king so that pecking order is set…he comes out first to make sure everything is safe before the ladies follow. The nesting boxes are easily removable and the hens won’t be laying til August, so we took out them and the bar in front of the door and the nesting box supports can form another roost area.

      I think 10 is too many if they are going to be in there 24/7. But that's my opinion. I have 7 chicks and am going to enlarge their run in the next month or so. If you have the ability to let them have more room an hour or so a day, you would probably be ok.

      @@stealthdoocatee ….I’m not the one doing the videos, just a commentor like you, but I have this coop and think six is ok so they have enough room without roaming around outside more. You may want to do an extension if you’re not going to let the ten free range.
