A tip for those planning to buy one of these: If you plan to add hardware cloth around the outside to keep raccoon hands from reaching through the cage portion, install it BEFORE you assemble the sections together. You'll thank me later!
The prices are getting crazy with the chicken coops. I bought one years ago that a guy made for $500. which was heavy wood and 4 by 8 in size. All coop. Coops that use to be 1k are now well over 2k because of the cost of wood. We've had basically 4 types of attacks over the years. A mink dug under the coop and into the run. It killed all the white chickens one night. I had to put blocks across the entire run to keep it out before killing it. A raccoon just walked into our driveway one day and hid behind our car. The raccoon killed one chicken after chasing it all over the yard. Last year we had one hen get attacked from above probably by hawk. She survived and was afraid to leave the coop for a long time. Then there's the bears. I have a dog kennel around the coop. Last year a bear kept pushing the dog kennel until it bent the bars and the wiring. The bears can be rough on the coops. So the mink killed the most chickens by digging under the fence and it used the ramp and some existing blocks to hide it's entry hole. Just something to consider.
The blocks around my run go in to the ground a little. Some more than others. I know what you mean on those coop prices. I contacted an amish company and they quoted $3400 for a 6x10 and it would have taken 16 weeks. I'm happy with this coop for now. I dont know about it holding 14 chickens though. I dont think they would be as happy. I do have hawks behind my house. I hear them every day. I have also seen raccoons and foxes. I'll be keeping an eye on things.
Don't remember the brand but I used a clear caulking that I got from home depot. It was $3 for the smaller tube and I used 3 tubes. It's a little windy today and I'm glad I caulked it up. It would be breezy in there if I didn't. I really like the set up. It's gonna work well for me. Few more things I want to do with it and I will try to upload more videos about it.
My chickens are getting too big to be in the brooder so for now I only painted the outside. Getting the panels out was easy. I then used a #10, 1/2" wafer screw to put them back on. The paint on the panels is only primer. It will not last unless it's protected. I did not paint the metal framing. I'm gonna see how it holds up. It appears to be some type of powder coating.
I bought this coop about 3 weeks ago but haven’t had the chance to assemble it yet because I need to add dirt to level the area. Thank you for posting this video & giving us a heads up on improvements like caulking in those certain areas with gaps etc. I plan to use blocks on the bottom as well. Did you place and bury any galvanized hardware cloth around the perimeter of the coop and run to help deter ground predators? I saw that some people do that & it’s a good idea for my area. I plan on starting with 6 hens & will prob go to 8. Do you find that the size of the run is sufficient for the amount of chickens you have?Just wondering if I’ll need to come up w/away to extend the run later on.
I think with 6 to 8 the chickens will be very happy. I have not buried any galvanized hardware around the perimeter. I do plan to add some anchors in to the concrete blocks though. So far the coop is holding up nicely. We've had a couple rough storms the last few days and the coop has stayed dry. I do have another modification that I'm gonna do and I'd recommend so please stay tuned. I'm hoping to make a new video soon.
Thank you so much for your reply it was very helpful! Im sorry my response was so delayed. I thought I had replied, however I’ve been coming back to your channel often.
This run is only 6 feet wide. I'm sure something could be added to it, just might need to make custom modifications. If they would sell extra panels from this kit, it would work pretty easy.
I saw another review of this saying it was fiberglass body... do you think maybe they meant the roof? I was really hoping the body was wood since I wanted to easily add more ventilation.
The only automatic door I have ever seen was up and down. This door goes side to side. I'm not familiar with how those electric motor work to give an expert opinion.
I've since covered that side with a piece of plywood simply because of that. It's basically like a ledge up there now and they use it to walk from one side to the other.
Other than the hens crapping every where and keeping it filthy lol, there is no issues with it. Nothing has been broken and it still works as it did from day 1. Inside the coop stays dry. I think caulking those areas was a good idea. There have been no failures and it continues to do the job.
www.tractorsupply.com I believe you will have to enter your zip code for a store near you. Once you are on that website, just search for chicken coops.
@@Cobrafanatik22 Thank you. I tried, but this one doesn't come up any where. I've looked and googled and tried to find this coop every where. I think they may have discontinued it. I don't know :-( Thank you.

I like this guy and what he did but, I just noticed this time after watching it twice,🤷♀️ why are the kids a swing on the outside of the fence🤔 if he's protecting his chickens from predators shouldn't he be protecting his kids too just a thought! 😉
Hahaha good eye. The swing set was sitting where the coop is and I had to move it out of the way to build the coop. Kids are grown now and the swing was disassembled and disposed of.
@@Cobrafanatik22 you're right about the grass in the run. The roof and metal framing aren't green though. I also have this coop and was wondering what you were referencing in the video.
Its pop riveted made in china trash....give it time when the pot metal hinges and the rivets start coming apart from the metal!!! POOR VENTILATION!!! Also I know you had to invest more money into it. Now mind you I am not being down on you lol.......just hoping others will consider building one. Not hard at all. Like I said...its made in china cheap trash........
It probably is made in China. Other than some paint, caulk, screws and the cinder blocks for leveling it out....I haven't invested anything in to this coop and it's holding up great. I'm having no issues with the hinges. It stays dry inside and there is plenty of room for my chickens when they aren't free ranging.
The coop looks great. You can tell you took the time to make it look good.
Thank you sir. I wanted it to last. I saw some flaws and fixed them the easiest way I could.

This is the coop I am looking to get. Thanks for the video on this coop. Not many videos of this coop out there right now. Nice job on your setup :)
Glad I could help. I figured I'd make a video because I didn't see much out there about it myself.
👌🏾😎👍🏾👍🏾thanks for sharing
Correction....this coop is marketed to hold 14 chickens.
Need to focus on the crazy racoons-r-us lock

Did you ever do a video of the anchors in the blocks?
Nice job, looks good. I have one sitting on the back of my truck to assemble this weekend.
I never anchored it down. I haven't had any movement in it and decided it doesn't need it. Thanks for watching.
Good Job

do you know if you can add the 8x8 run to the run this comes with

I saw another review of this saying it was fiberglass body... do you think maybe they meant the roof? I was really hoping the body was wood since I wanted to easily add more ventilation.
The body is metal frame and wooden panels. The roof is pvc. I dont think it's fiberglass.
Thanks! I feel better knowing it’s wood.
@@Cobrafanatik22 Do you think it would be hard to replace the vinyl roof with a tin roof or other metal roofing?
@@pencey absolutely not. It's more like a pvc than it is vinyl. But adding a tin roof should be pretty simple.
Nice coop is it still on da tractor supply site
I've been told that since this video, this coop is no longer available. I would inquire with your local TCS if it can be ordered.
I've since seen this coop listed on the TSC site again but the price has jumped to $1000
Thanks i will check into it
Do you think this would be compatible with an automatic door?
The only automatic door I have ever seen was up and down. This door goes side to side. I'm not familiar with how those electric motor work to give an expert opinion.
I bought this coop. I feel on mine there is too much space where you close the door to walk in.
I agree. I dont like that gap. Stay tuned though, I have a solution.
What are the dimensions of this coop when it's assembled? Thinking about pouring a concrete pad for it to sit on.
I'll have to measure it. I think it's about 4'x7'
The total is 5' wide × 10.5' feet long. The run is 5'x7'.
@@Cobrafanatik22 thanks alot!
The one issue i see is the roosting bar over the nest boxes. The chickens will roost over the nesting box and you will have a box full of poo.
I've since covered that side with a piece of plywood simply because of that. It's basically like a ledge up there now and they use it to walk from one side to the other.
