I always love "favorite tools". When I see someone's palette on IG I often all what colors are in it. Helps me learn. I've used fountain pens for writing in my journal for roughly 55 years. I've not paid attention to the water resistance because it didn't matter. So in the States, many shop for pens at a small business called Goulet Pens (I'm not connected to them). Not only is there Platinum Carbon Blank ink, but a document ink is water resistant. A good brand is De Atramentis - they have many colors. Like Koosje, I like to match the ink to my pen color. I have dozens of pens, hence many bottles of ink! Another thing regarding Lamy is that you can buy nibs separately! If you bought a pen with a nib you don't like, you can buy a new one for about $16. And to change it, just grip the nib already in the pen by its sides and pull up. Then push the new one in by the sides.
It's interesting to see how different artists choose their supplies. Here are the ones I have in common with yours: Lamy Safari, with convertor - ✔ Platinum Carbon Ink - ✔ Sailor Funde Nib (Green one), with convertor- ✔ I bought this several months ago after seeing you use it in one of your videos. It's a tricky pen to use, but it's unpredictability adds to the fun! Daniel Smith paints and metal palette, ✔ Although, I'm still experimenting with different palettes and set ups. Brushes - various, some with cut-down handles to fit in my "on-the-move" pencil case. I don't have Da Vinci though. Pencils: I put a couple of graphite pencils and mechanical pencils in my carry case. Sharpener: I put a small folding sharp penknife in the bag and a folded bit of sandpaper. Tissue paper - ✔ Bulldog clips - ✔ Watercolour Pencils - ✔ Caran D'Ache crayons - Neocolour II, instead of your Neocolour I. Although, I've only used these at home some far. That's a cool and very convenient pencil case by DELDE, I might have to hunt that one down...
What, no magic pen! That explains it, I though my Lamy pen was broken. I will now have to move to a rainbow pencil as those ARE magic pencils. Thanks Koosje, I can’t wait to do my first amazing masterpiece with the powers my Magic pencil will bring me. Great video and if I may say, you are looking very well. Good luck with the Patreon account, I will join latter in the year once I am working again.
Thank you for your supply update Koosje. My supplies are mostly the same as yours. I have tried many others, but I tend to go back to these basics. For person starting out, in terms of balancing cost and quality, I would refer them to this video.
That made me laugh bc ppl think they're is a magic pen that will turn them into an artist. I use all kinds of things and I know what I like and don't like.
Very nice video. FYI: I belive that first Sailor pen you showed is called the Sailor Profit. I have both those pencil holders...they are Great! Thanks!
Hi Koosje, would you be able to share what you carry in your everyday bag that is used for outdoor sketching? I just want a sense of what do you pack and how do you pack them so it’s easy for you to pull out your sketchbook and essential tools to start sketching. I find it hard to balance so many things in hand when I see something interesting to sketch. I end up just taking a photo and walk away.
Loved this, I've added a sailor fude to my birthday present wish list😊 A friend gave me a lamy a couple of years ago and it's brilliant. Never seen those stand up pencil cases before How Clever 😍
After watching some of your older videos I bought a Sailor fountain pen with a fude nib, and I absolutely love it. I feel it’s transforming my drawing. ❤️❤️❤️. Thank you for inspiring people!
I love my Lamy as well, but not sure about getting water resistant ink for it… I love fountain pens but hate filling them, and when I don’t use them for some time the ink won’t flow… I assume it will be worse for that kind of ink! Loved to see your favorites :-)
Fun and inspiring video! I am a little curious about the da Vinci Petit Gris Pur #10 brush that doesn't seem to exist? Can't find any da Vinci Petit Gris Pur brush with a black handle? Only the 418 series brush that looks nothing like yours in the video.
It might be that it's only available in a certain shop in the Netherlands? I am not an expert, and I definitely would not recommend looking for this exact brush. Remember, it's not the tool that makes the artist. It's a soft round watercolor brush, not too small; i like using it.
@@KoosjeKoene Thank you, yes I am aware - sadly! how easy it would be if there was a magic tool!- but I am always curious about other people's tools. I have my favorite brushes and have no intention of buying another ;-) but I always like to check up other tools. Just for fun!
Hello Koosje, I love your videos and you did mention a pencil sharpener here but I have tried many pencil sharpeners and listened to various videos reviewing them but most of them don't sharpen caran d'ache pencil crayons that are wider than a regular pencil. You showed a very tiny pencil sharpener, do you use that for the caran d-ache? Thank you for your interesting and helpful videos.
I think I showed one from Faber Castell. What’s really important, is that the blade is sharp. Also, try turning the pencil sharpener around the pen, rather than turning the pencil. Apparently, that way we hold the pencil more steadily so that less pressure gets on its lead.
What a fun video! Great information and your cheerful personality just radiated today. I think the saying you were searching for is, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." (And yes, do use ain't! 😆)
Omg no, I know a lot of people who actually use all their colored pencils, 150, 120, 72…. It’s a great investment, but you’re right, it’s a personal matter, I just think the phrase “you’ll end up not using most of them” is misleading, a lot of artists buy small sets and end up needing a bigger one, this is worse if your brand it’s not sold open stock, you end up spending a lot more.
Mixed media artists are the ones who usually just use a few colors from a set, but if you’re a colored pencil artist, specially if you do realism you’ll use all, believe me
I love your thick bold line work. I want to try it.

Only just caught up with you via Sketchbook Revival 2023.... life-changing! Great generosity of info and encouragement, thank you. x
Glad it was helpful!
That saying :If it ain't broke, don't fix it!
Thank you Koosje This is a big help
“scritchy scratchy” 😆 excellent description of writing with fountain pens with fine nibs
Wow I love that Delde pencil case! And my favourite fountain pen is my Lamy, so good to draw with.
Love this presentation. Enjoyed being introduced to all the cool art tools. Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it!

Hello, good video with a great idea for pencil holders that become take-out kits Thank you
Happy tuesday Koosje!
Thank you for sharing, for advice.
Not seen any of your vlogs for some time Koosje but as always they are a great watch.
I've been here all along - just had a few months break in 2020

Koosje, I really appreciate your videos. I'm trying to be an artist with no training. I love the Netherlands, too. I live in Berkeley, California.
Great video & info - thank you!
I recently purchased a Lamy pen. Excited to try it out.
Thanks for sharing, Koosje! Tuesday is my favorite day. Happy drawing!

Thanks for your suggestion. I am putting this on the DTT video wishlist.
If you like the Pentel brush pen, I highly recommend the Kuretake No.13 Fountain brush pen. A big step up.
Oh yes! I have that one too and I like it but for some reason I choose the plastic pocket brushpen over it.

Thanks, Nico. It is indeed a personal matter. I realize that.
Koosje can you tell me if the pencil holder is tall enough to hold tombows? I keep hesitating to buy because I use tombows as well as microns TIA.
I bought one similar to delde brand in Aliexpress and it isn't tall enough for my tombows (maybe 1 cm at least)😔
I’m afraid it won’t be tall enough for to bows
Could you show us how to use neocolors 1 and neocolors 2 together ?
I never actually do that (I am not a fan of watercolor crayons…) but might give it a try
@@KoosjeKoene thank you Koosje for the answer. Don't stress about that 😀
That was very nice to see! We have a lot of pens in common haha, I love the LAMY, my favourite nib is B!
