The Versatility of the Colored Pencil

Last week I showed you one of my favorite pens, and today I'll show you another favorite tool: the colored pencil. Drawing with it is completely different than with a pen because by changing the pressure on the pencil, you can control the softness or hardness of your lines. Also the colored pencil is a little more forgiving when it comes to wobbly lines or "mistakes" that you feel need to be fixed.

I realized as you drew the shape of the object…that you use a continuous line - then the fill and shading…kept the flow.Very nice.
Great tips in your video! The color mixing for gray, leaving unpainted areas for highlights, the pop of color in the distance, and the darker shadows at the front were ALL great advice! Thank you!
I appreciate that you recorded in your new space. I wonder why you said you "never planned to record Draw Tip Tuesdays" there. I think it COULD be "the place for it", if you want it to be. I DO hope you keep us up to date on your studio progress!

I’ll explain why I never planned to record videos: because the space is not set up for making videos. It is a shared space and I couldn’t possibly ask the artist with whom I share the room to be quite when I record.
also I want to spend my time there making art just for myself rather than making videos to share - I know that sounds rude but I am just being honest here.
I don't think that's rude at all. You need to protect your art time. We all do. Good for you.

I love drawing with colored pencils especially watercolor pencils. They are great for adding texture or soften with water. I want to say that if you think about that when you say “mistake” is there really such a thing? The lines evolving into form, just keep drawing, saying “mistake” is so negative to the whole art experience.. your space looks great and what fun..
Well I was hoping that I made clear with my voice that I meant “mistakes” with quotation marks . Because of course there aren’t any. But apparently I need to emphasize on that more next time.
